  1. you are right about the disney magic, but Disneysea is something special when it comes to theming as its partly owned by disney but the major owner is a Japanese business company who have a lot of money.
  2. I think in general Disney does a pretty good job themeing their parks. They've been in the business for quite a while. Walking into a Disney park is like being transported to another world. If you have a look at the book Imagineering which is availible at Disneyland to buy it shows how much detail and effort goes into their parks. From models to 3d graphics everything is detailed and well palnned. Well thats my opinion anyway feel freee to disagree.
  3. IMO the best themed roller coaster is Space Mountain at Euro Disney. The fact that your following the journey to the moon, shot out of a cannon just, for me, spell awesome fun
  4. Just a question Former, but has anyone at Wonderland e-stopped a ride because they saw a rider with a camera? I believe this has happened to Rabid Disney on ToT at Dreamworld. Thanks, ~Flea
  5. They didn't sell any license. Warner Bros. only ever had the rights to three films, the third of which is due out in around a years time. Theme parks and films work on totally different levels - just because a parent company has purchased the film rights, doesn't mean they can stick the same film onto rides or attractions at a park they own (similarly, if I were a shirt manufacturing company and I bought the rights to print Harry Potter shirts, it wouldn't mean I could just go out there and start making my own HP movies). Disney doesn't hold the rights to the movies or future movies. ABC (in America) has bought the rights to show the Warner Bros. movies on TV, which includes some Disney channels, but that's about it. Disney is actually in the early stages of making their own franchise similar to Harry Potter, complete with their own books, TV shows, movies and rides etc., so getting Harry Potter would be a bit of a waste. I know you're a whole lot more informed than us, Cokecool, but I wouldn't exactly call Matrix a filler ride. Firstly, it's not a ride, it's a walkthrough attraction. And by calling it a filler, would suggest it's a cheap attempt to keep people coming until they put in something huge. Yeah - it probably doesn't cost as much as a ride would, but it has just as much value to Movie World as a ride, and will probably result in the same sort of increase in attendance that a ride would.
  6. The reason they got rid of Potter was Warner Bros.(AOL Time Warner) sold the licence to Potter to Disney! And matrix is a filler ride.
  7. What would be the sound Superman: The Escape make at Six FLags Magic Mountain? Would that be loud? Rabid disney?
  8. Back on-topic then It would be cool to have Thorpe Park become Six Flags London and Heide-Park become Six Flags Germany... but I'm very sure Six Flags won't buy Tussauds. As a matter of fact, Tussauds has said they are not selling anything right now. Keep an eye on Hansa-Park But I don't think Six Flags would buy Warner Bros. in Australia. However, they might build a new park in Florida or California. Warner Bros. on the other hand should look around in Japan, people are crazy about American themeparks and they adore movies. Universal Studios and Disney are both a huge success ! But Six Flags in Australia, not tomorrow...it's like expecting a "Six Flags South Africa" or "Six Flags over China".
  9. And let's hope pigs will fly! It's obvious that more major breakdowns will occur once again, I'm afriad that TTD is one pre-mature ride. More extensive testing was needed before opening, much like disney is running tests for months with their new ride (Mission: Space at Epcot). Hopefully, this will put a big blow on all types of theme parks to run extensive tests with their new prototype before opening it to the public. ~Liam
  10. I know there is already a matrix topic going but I thought I would start a new one..... Anyway it was cool as, the effects were awsome, but don't get me started on the ending....... I was just thinking this aftrenoon what a great ride it would make and it quickly reminded my of Disney World's (One of those disney ones..) Tower of Terror. For anyone unfamilliar with Disney's Tower of Terror, it is a drop ride enclosed within a tower with heaps of theming, special affects and a decent story to back it up:) It's themed to the "Twiglight Zone" Check the site out http://www.tower-of-terror.com/ But can you just imagine it themed to the Matrix Reloaded. The ride could be themed on Trinadie going into the Matrix and racing in and out of the doors, running from the controller, along the highway and eventually getting thrown out the window of a high rise (with a slight pause and a spin ) and then droping straight down the side of the building to the pavement only to be........... I dont' want to spoil the end of the film. You would have special effects galore, particularly when you enter the matrix and when you are being chased and there are bullets flying slowmoe all over head The ride would kinda run along a track... Anyway it would probally cost a fortune but hay, I can dream. Any comments or ideas? Shaun *who's going to run his own theme park oneday with an inclosed drop ride
  11. I was talking to Rabid Disney about the ride on AIM. Looks ike i will be visiting Austrailia soon. Austrailia seems to be trying to out do all the great coasters in the U.S. WOW.
  12. I'd prefer a Giga Coaster.. but then again, if Rabid Disney said we were getting something great, and he knew it was a Giga Coaster, then he might as well said 'you guys are getting something excellent'. Catch my drift? Anything Intamin or B & M would really please me, but hey, if a merry-go-round was added, I'd still go nuts! ~Flea
  13. Joz's sig states that Ride Op has stated that Wonderland is getting a new show.. could this be this new thing? but.. Rabid Disney has said it will be something that we will like, so I really doubt it's a show.. since we don't prefer shows over rides. Confusing, isn't it? ~Flea
  14. There are some great photos of the River Caves and descriptions in a book I have (details of it at the end). The River Caves was a water boat ride (Think Tunnel Of Love). It was huge with people who went on dates to the park (private time alone in the dark). It consisted of travelling through all sorts of themed environments. Most of them were constructed with chicken mesh, plaster, paint and horse hair in the early days. They had animal environments, rainforest style environments, toy shops etc. It was basically an early version of Disney's 'Small Small World' attraction. If you can get a copy of this book, it is the most complete history of Luna Park in Melbourne VIC, Glenelg SA, and Sydney NSW that I know of. I got mine from the Luna Park Shop when Sydney was open but some book stores may be able to order it in. The book that has heaps of information is, "Luna Park - Just For Fun" by Sam Marshall 1995. It was published for the Luna Park Reserve Trust by Chapter & Verse. It's a must if you're interested in a detailed history of the place and it's rides.
  15. The ride was one of the best for some years, even my favorite coaster. But I hear a lot from others and at the moment this coaster is a big pain machine. It's too rough to ride, even some fanatics skip this coaster. I'm glad I've been on it in the good years of this coaster, and I think it would be some shock to ride it again in rough situation. The ride was perfect. The on board music, the theming, the story, everything. But when the ride is not comfortable the rest doesn't help anymore. A fan is now busy to write a letter that everybody can send. It's really time that the park solves the problems of this coaster! --> http://www.mouse-studios.com/dc/dcboard.ph..._id=32900&page= BTW: it's not euro disney anymore for a lot of years, now it's called disneyland paris!
  16. Photos and videos can be found at www.themeparkvision.net I believe. When my brother went to euro disney he took our video camera on the ride.. so hopefully, I can get that up soon! ~Flea
  17. My list: Six Flags Marine World - 9 times... in the past 3 months Paramount's Great America - Once... a year... atleast Knott's Berry Farm - 2 times, But i rode Xcelerator on opening day in the 3rd train of the GP(so it's a win win situation) Disneyland - 5 times Disney's California Adventure - 1 time Six Flags Magic Mountain - 1 time(and i hope never again) Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - 2 times Sad thing is, some of you have been to way more parks in the US then me and i LIVE in the US.
  18. I'm all too well aware of the fact that Movie World is a family park above all. Never once did I say I wanted a coaster, or a thrill ride. My argument against a show is solely to do with crowd management. My opinion is that a show wouldn't be done as well as it once could have been. Movie World is a very small park, with a pretty undesirable layout. It doesn't handle even small crowds terribly efficiently and easily. You've all seen Main Street after Police Academy, where it is impossible to get anywhere. During the Bat Spectable, it's near impossible to get out of the Southern end of the park. Adding more shows will reduce the numbers of people around the park for the duration, but look out when the show ends, particularly if they take the (pretty well thought out) Sea World approach, to synchronise shows (which is fine for Sea World, where its bigger, and more ways to get from A to B, but it mightn't work as well at Movie World). Really, it is my thought, and always has been, that whatever comes for Matrix (or anything in the future), should involve a major expansion, creating a loop at least around Maverick and Scooby Doo into Lethal Weapon. That'll let the crowds at least flow smoothly in a circle. Once this recurring problem has been solved, and I've not even talked about new (high capacity) rides, then we can put something in the Maverick building. Warner Bros. Movie World may have once been considered to be in competition with Universal Studios Hollywood, but I'd think that the Japanese Universal and Disney parks have pretty well fixed it. And if we're going to compare these two studio parks, then let's give it a go: Wild West Falls - Jurassic Park Batman the Ride - Back to the Future Special FX Tour - Special Effects Stages (Universal uses films people might know) Studio Tour (well and truly gone, but no loss) - Studio Tour (it's kept modern) Marvin the Martian - Shrek 4D, Terminator 3D Superstars (gone) - Spiderman Rocks! (though one, I know) Gremlins (gone), Looney Tunes River Ride- Backdraft Looney Tunes Revue - Animal Planet Live Looney Tunes Village - Nickelodeon Blast Zone Harry Potter - Mummy Returns: Chamber of Doom Police Academy Stunt Show - Water World Bold is the winner (of course, all my uneducated opinion), if there's no bold, there's no winner. Universal seems to come out on top to me. All that's left at Movie World is Lethal Weapon and Scooby-Doo. Two fantastic rides, but let's face it, bigger budgets would blow these two out of the water. Universal Hollywood also looks at least double or triple the size as well, so it might be possible to movie around there.
  19. yeah make sure you do both disney parks but what you could do is if you go on a friday or saturday disneyland opens 9am to 12 midnite so you could do DCA 9 am to 4pm (7 hours) and disneyland 4pm to 12am (8 hours) As for vegas I stayed at NYNY on my 1st trip there its a nice hotel (but all the hotels at that end of the strip are) the only disapointing thing was its pool isnt that great compared to the others. but great hotel for theming and everything else, make sure you tour though all the hotels all the way down to Sahara each hotel has its own great theme , with some having shopping malls, shows and niteclubs in as well and Circus Circus has a indoor theme park which is cool. as for the coaster at NYNY, manhatten express good element is the dive roll but the coaster is really slow and expenses $10 compare to speed which is $6. have fun and if you need any advice on vegas just reply or email me P.S make sure you go to Studio 54 niteclub at MGM
  20. Howdy I agree the rides do look good but is it definiately worth the money for the amount that there are? At this stage we have alocated two 'Disney' days so would we be better to have one day at Disneyland and the other at DCA? I have heard some reports of the negatives of SFMM but I was still leaving two days for the park just for the sheer number of rides and the fact I wouldn't mind more than one ride on them as it will be some time before I can get there again (not like its a 10hour drive away :-)... In Vegas I am staying at NY NY so theres one coaster on the doorstep and yes I'll definately be getting a couple goes in on Speed!
  21. posted by djrappa dude have fun , but dont skip DCA it is a great park , it may not have all the rides SFMM has but it's rides are quailty with alot of disney money and theming put in to them sfmm is great for the amount of coasters but has the worst rep of all the parks, you only need a day there, the staff are rude the rides are not maintain and so on. I go to California every year and always want to go back for Knotts Berry Farm and Disney for its magic. I have had mates who have traveled with me from London who thought sfmm look better but ended up sayin Knotts was better as well as Disney I hope this advice helps. also go on Speed The Ride at the sahara in Las Vegas the smoothest launch coaster I have ever been on. my top 5 rides (i have been on ) (1) Ghostrider (Knotts) (2) Speed (las vegas) (3) Goliath (Sfmm) (4) California screamin (DCA) (5) Riddlers Revenge (Sfmm)
  22. WOW sounds coool. I think thats pretty freaky as I am just about to leave on a 2 week park hopping trip to the US visiting Vegas and LA. I will be visiting Disney, Universal, Knott's and SFMM. How did you find Calf. Adventure for thrills? I am planning to skip it in favour of more days at SFMM as this has clearly got to be one of the worlds top thrill parks (well if you can't get to Cedar Point anyhow).
  23. When we went to Euro Disney we were supposed to go to parc Asterix instead but it was closed So we got into Disneyland for free cause the travel agency were such retards. I really wanted to go to parc Asterix. I think it's goudrix's run? The big white steel coster that looked awesome
  24. Wow - a mysterious angel told me that exact same thing today (who goes by the name of rabid disney). Sounds like a good idea. Take these tourists who are normally paying $500 for the same sort of thing (only authentic), make it high-capacity, and 1/10th the cost, and let all the real farms, who are now relying on this for a living because of the drought, slowly shut their doors. Hope that that doesn't happen, but it is pretty clear from Mr. Menzies' comments regarding 'India Land' (sorry for the politically incorrect name/joke), that he's taking the faceless corporation approach to the running of the theme parks. Anyway, it will put them more on the level of Dreamworld (and their 10m² Oakey Creek), and this seems to be the animal exibits they were talking about going together with Outback Adventure.
  25. Well, give most of the rides a good makeover, that'd put the park up several notches to me. No, I don't mean replace some of the wood on Bush Beast with some aweful hard pine in a few spots. Complete retracking, new PTC's... the works. I do agree that the theming is 'top notch' for what the park is. Obviously it isn't in the league of Disney, Universal, or even Warner Bros., but it certainly matches and beats most Paramount, Six Flags parks, as well as Dreamworld and Sea World here. They have the land. They have the money. But you have to stop and think... from a non-thrill seeker perspective. Do they need new rides? Sadly, the answer is no. They seem to be targeting families with their endless stream of shows. And hey, this works... from all reports, attendance over Summer was overwhelming. However, there is no denying that they'd get a lot more interstate appeal with the addition of new rides. They seem to not care about interstate market anymore (last ad I saw on TV up here was around 1999), maybe to keep out of the way of the Gold Coast parks. A thrill ride to take the candle away from Dreamworld... even just for a short time, would push a lot of Queenslanders down there, particularly in the September holiday period. But let's look at it from where they're sitting right now. They're not adding much, a show here and there, some maintenance to keep the place looking respectable. And yet they're easily up there attendance-wise with Dreamworld or Sea World.
