The Brisbane RNA show grounds is being entirely refit and developed for the 2032 Olympics and creating a legacy home for the EKKA was a big part of the promotion around the location choice, there was even models and a stand at the EKKA this year showing what the new facilities will look like, so the EKKA isn’t going anywhere anytime in the next 50 years.

Harry Potter Land coming to Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi
omega237 replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I wonder which attraction they’re going to add to Harry Potter since Universal has some of the best ones. Well till Monsters Unchained took that mantle beating Forbidden Journey -
We need to make the same decision Sydney did in the mid nineties concerning relocating the RAS from Moore Park to Homebush (using the "Olympic legacy" line politicians love to use) before we turn the EKKA site and the EKKA itself into a densified mess. Quite simply: relocate the RNA out of Bowen Hills to Boondall post-2032 (as the Entertainment Centre would no longer be required, if a 18-20k indoor arena is built in the inner city) to give the EKKA breathing space it's rapidly losing in Bowen Hills. There is a severe risk, if relocation post-2032 is not considered or planned for now, key planks of what makes the Ekka a great event could well be sacrificed... as Brisbane would ultimately have the smallest area for hosting a Royal Show in the country per capita. And I think there would be unanimous support from the country RNA membership for relocation, and from the showmen that are now outright bypassing the EKKA (just look at the events popping during the EKKA in Brisbane's suburbs, like Jimboomba and North Lakes) because Sideshow Alley has shrunk considerably all because what we were told was to be a "temporary" showbag pavilion fifteen years ago, has somehow become permanent.

If you want a free bout of depression, walk through the sideshow ally at the Ekka next year. I hadn't been for a long long time and all I can say is, they have f^&ked it.

I can neither confirm nor deny this

Is it called that because people puke on it?

The lighting looks great on the ride, I just really hope they have plans to do something with the backsplash in the near future as I feel it really takes from the appearance. But I'm just so glad to see it back up and running!

Harry Potter Land coming to Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi
themagician replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Construction has begun on the parks expansion and these images really give you an idea of how big of an expansion this really is. And construction walls have gone up inside the park Source: https://www.themeparx.com/warner-bros-world-abu-dhabi/ This does also mean that despite the Harry Potter expansion being announced 3 years ago, it's probably at least another 3 years away from opening. -
Yes, because it's what the camera sees. It doesn't see the studio lighting, and the scaffold holding up the house set (and all the other sets) and the overhead catwalks and rigging (or the mass of cameras, booms, dollies and other filming equipment behind the camera either). The original film set had the benefit of: being 100% indoors not needing to meet practically ANY level of fire safety not needing to adhere to any WH&S requirements. Naturally the park isn't going to be able to recreate an all-weather, all-season, immersive recreation of the original sets. For one - there's too many vandals masquerading as guests who would destroy it inside a week. But it's certainly enough detail to show what they were going for. In a real movie set environment, this would be the facade set up, and then set dressers would come in with all the foliage and flowers and little touches that complete the look. It's like visiting a backlot that isn't currently being used for a production. By all accounts though there is one thing MW was able to get right about the original film sets of WOZ:
-
The WoO precinct doesn't look anything like this. There are some design and aesthetic nods to what we're seeing in this image, but this actually looks immersive... the MW land does not. MW's attempt at this theme looks more like a low budget movie set than the original film does.
-
When you get a chance to visit for yourself, I believe your perspective will change.

Perhaps not but it sure resembles one

They've used that exact phrase since at least February 2023 on the MW website and backed up by this very thread in the same month here:- 330 replies

WOZ was never made to look like a it was on a movie set.

That's big news, get that to Screamscape pronto. Obviously, they took inspiration from the intriguing exclamation point in the name of the Knott's coaster Jaguar! "Planned" is a good get out clause, I'm not banking on 2025, happy to be surprised.

I mean - there's plenty of solid green walls in film making (but I do know what you mean) But 100% agree with you on the shade...

@DaptoFunlandGuy I agree, but that still doesn’t give them a pass on painting large walls a solid green or making your queue area an unshaded cattle pen. It just demonstrates a lack of care or effort.

Movie World Maintenance Schedule 2025

I didn't ask if you cared Dapto. I was telling you the state of play because you suggested I was trying to start an argument but that isn't true because I didn't read your post. If it isn't the smoking gun I think it is, tell us what you know @DaptoFunlandGuy -

I couldn't care less. -
I mean, I don't like that jarring aspect that comes with leaving these sorts of things untouched, but i've said multiple times in the past that if you're a 'movie studio' park you get a pass on sight lines as the idea is it's only what the camera can see. There's plenty of lights, rigging, booms and other film making devices just outside the lens.
