  2. I think it's pretty say that we'll get what we expected from the coaster at Dreamworld. Sure maybe a couple things are in a nolimits render that won't be exactly right in the finished product. But I'd say that my expectations of what DW put out there are of a nicely presented thrill coaster. And I expect them to deliver exactly that. Which I'll be happy with. Sea World however really has given this expectation: So I really hope I don't get this:

  3. Can I address the elephant in the room here... Why aren't they building a crazy-good compact coaster on site, building a few modern thrill rides that leverage the site's position really well (a Sky Roller would go bonza against the water's edge - https://www.gerstlauer-rides.de/produkte/rundfahrgeschaefte/sky-roller/ ) and just going ham with F&B? I just don't get it, they seem to be dragging their feet on some old, end of service life rides and squandering what would have to be Australia's most well-placed amusement park. It should print money every day of the year.

  4. I think realistically it’s going to be September 2021

  5. To my knowledge, yes and apparently they are waiting for a better time to announce it’s officially closed

  6. That is fantastic news, and like most I can’t wait to see this coaster ride above the Broadwater over coming months. Further covid closures not withstanding, are we Expecting a construction timeline of say 7-8 months? Another 6-8 weeks for testing etc. May just make it for an Easter 2021 opening? If not, I’d say Sept 2021. Winter holidays not ideal for a launch imo...

  7. It's the better day experience by far IMO. Small creature comforts like lifts for all the heavier rafts really do make the day far more pleasant. When the crowds do return en-masse and a lazy river becomes viable it'd really be a stellar waterpark. I think it's also got some room for some better F&B there, too - Blue Lagoon was pretty well known for its Fish 'n' Chips (and had a nice area to chill out and eat) and I think a similar thing should apply here too. I think that's been a sore spot for Dreamworld lately too - Dreamworld as a whole was known for its specialty foods and it's where they should return to for both parks, especially when they're trying to get small wins on the board in the absence of having so much closed.

  8. It certainly is the better looking waterpark on the coast! It’s nice to see money has been spent on the upkeep of the vibrant colours which can so easily go to hell if left to fade. Hopefully the poor cousin down the road can be inspired by the younger hotter model.

  9. See you set yourself up for failure by assuming you were getting new, made for 4D, content. it’s so much easier to be surprised by assuming the least or worst prior....

  10. So there is a lot of talk of Golden Years for all our parks. Sea World, Dreamworld and Movie World... I think an interesting measure would actually be for all of us to state our age at the time along with what we think of a parks golden years. By and large I think we all remember a lot of things much better than they really were. I for instance remember Harry Potter as being really good at MW but plenty of people tell me it was totally shit. would just be an interesting statistic to look at.

  11. You can afford all those games but not a Parkz subscription or YoutubeRED?

  12. Inspecting every part of the track and structure will take much longer than a usual steel coaster too

  13. The showcase is great imo if you are into behind the scenes/making of movies. HWSD has sucked for years.

  14. While I am within that industry, I am in agreeance that architects shouldn’t be involved with attraction design. Stores and food outlets, yet. A local office design Penguin Encounter, which isn’t bad, but nothing amazing. They are also involved with Vortex, DC Rivals and Jet Rescue to just name a few. And none of them have an inspiring designs. SkyVoyager is the ambitious design we’ve seen, but it doesn’t necessarily pay off (which has been heavily discussed before). I’ve got a couple friends who have worked on a few of these projects over the years and some definitely haven’t become what was originally hoped for. Whether it was budget, creative differences, licensing or original design ideas weren’t working, etc.

  15. So... I ventured to MW today...in my opinion it is so disappointing at the moment. Based on audience reaction Yogi Bear was pretty awful - HWSD was by far the worst I have ever seen it... (and I think it has changed post-covid). I was aware of all of the ride closures, but even Batmans suit looked like it had seen better days. Lots of issues with JL3D. The showcase is.. meh. IMO, It is such a disappointment to see what the park has become... embarrassing.

  16. Replacement timelines you would imagine will be reflective on how long covid lingers not only domestically but internationally. Second waves, third waves, cures, vaccines, uptake of vaccine will all throw out plans. I wouldn’t expect a significant capex investment at MW for at least 4-5 years and that’s assuming we get back to some form of domestic travel normality in the next 12 months, which in itself is no guarantee

  17. Well that's it, its won an architectural award voted on my architects... Doesn't speak anything to it's suitability or aesthetic for a theme park, which is why Disney employs Art Directors and not Architects to design things. Similarly just ask a builder how they feel about architects and you'll see that the nice lines on paper don't equate to much in terms of if it's suitable to build, fit for purpose, etc etc. Doubt its winning and engineering or project management awards, but I guess as a stand alone building outside of it's theme park context its somewhat interesting. I still don't like those weirdly shaped glass stairwells but I'm also not a qualified architect so my opinion probably doesn't mean much. ...say architect again
