+1 to the food playing an important aspect of park judgment. good food keeps you happy. bad food literally leaves a bad taste in your mouth about your day. I like that the parks have taken steps towards improving their offerings across the board. Why should a wrap cost as much as a burger? Here's the thing: pre-making prior to opening means you have to GUESS how many people want to be healthy. Make too many, and you'll have to throw them out at the end of the day, or severely discount them to entice people to buy. These losses have to be factored into the pricing - so you charge more. Secondly, those healthy conscious people? They're also the ones who would typically ask for something to be 'freshly made' despite something having been made only 20 minutes prior... Or they'll claim an allergy or intolerance specifically to get something made fresh (there are legit allergies, i'm not saying people are full of it, but i've seen many people order something due to allergy, and then later eat the very thing they claimed to be allergic to). So with this in mind - you've either got to maintain a station \ ability to make fresh on request, or you're going to disappoint those who would buy fresh - either way not selling your pre-made stuff. Burgers are cook to order. There's a high enough demand that you can batch cook stuff, knowing that they'll sell. When demand starts to die down, you slow down your production line - less waste means lower costs. As far as mass producing wraps, there isn't MUCH more effort in production, but healthier ingredients tend to cost more too. Mass producing burgers is a quick process perfected by fast food organisations for decades. Back before McDonald's did "made for you" they'd produce each burger on a tray of 16. One didn't have to be precise with each ingredient - so long as it fell somewhere on the tray, it made it on there, so things like applying lettuce is a much faster process than trying to fill 'between the lines' so that a wrap can be... wrapped... From memory - the 'automated' touch screen stations at Sea World did offer water, but not sure whether you could get plain soda water. Some of the older style post mix stations do have a 'water' lever, and some of them even have a 'soda' lever. Not sure if they are on any of the other ones in-park though.

I think the carpark was a necessary pre-condition to hotel construction. I think given the stall on that particular issue, we won't see updates on the hotel until they work their way around the parking issues.- 499 replies

Backwards row - DC Rivals HyperCoaster
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'd have liked to have seen it done differently, but after discussing the issue exhaustively off-board, I can completely understand why it is the way that it is. There are other benefits to this too that haven't been considered. I'm of mixed feelings about it, and I look forward to pages of debate in a few months. -
Theme Park Maintenance Schedules 2017

I would assume any regular safety system would have monitoring on the seat belts and if it had come undone part way through, the ride would have had a safety stop. I realise the ride is as harmless as they come, but if your child had come out of the car, and been hit by a following car, the car would have won. Its disappointing that the operator responded in that way, but what's worse is that the ride didn't have a safety system to immediately detect the problem. They made it official, you say? The mine ride is definitely returning you say? We will "be looking at bringing back old favourites......later this year" That to me does not say "We're definitely bringing it back by the end of the year" it says to me that "we're going to look and see what is viable" and "we're going to do that later this year" It's hardly what I'd call "making it official that it's returning" -

The Joker is about to deliver some shock therapy to his victims. Instructing them how to be seated in the torture chair is just efficient, right? @Slick - mate, you say you don't care what people think, but you are getting worked up and the emotion is showing in your responses. I don't think the storyline needs to be as over-analysed as it is. The accent for me was the only distracting thing, and for me - she pulled the accent off about half the time - so a couple extra takes, to get the right accent wouldn't have cost much more (except time). Its a great video, and what I said at the start was that I thought it was great that the park had invested in a ride that (lets be honest) is decades old, to bring it up to the quality and standard of Superman's pre-show. I think we can all agree it could have been executed better, without a massive increase in budget - however - attach a rider to that one - the park obviously approved what was produced, so they like it, and chances are - 99% of the people who view this video in situ won't give a rat's arse. Hopefully they pay enough attention to it that it speeds up operation of the attraction, and therefore reduces wait time - and we can all just be happy that they've bothered to spend money on improvements, instead of running generic music videos inside a themed environment. -
The parks offer healthy options, but they are typically more expensive than 'convenience' options - out of necessity. It takes more effort to produce wraps and rolls than it does to churn out a tray of burgers. As for drinks, post mix soft drink is by far the cheapest option. Bottled water tends to be at the other extreme. Many people visiting the parks are doing so on a budget. Locals with passes visit regularly and can't afford an $8 bottle of water every visit, and tourists have just paid for travel, accommodation, tickets, and all the other bits that go with a holiday, that food and drink choices will oftentimes be made based on price. The refillable drinks offer the best value - especially to a large family. One bottle can be refilled whenever it is empty, so there are no fights over 'big brother drinking the last of the drink' - no problem - just go and fill it up again. The park makes money out of the deal - post mix is quite a lot cheaper than bottled drinks - and nobody has a gun to their head - as you point out - free water fountains are available. So people are making that choice. Unfortunately @pushbutton - this is precisely the same discussion as walkthroughs and dark rides - soft drink, like roller coasters are in demand, so it makes sense to build more of them. Likewise coasters are more in demand than walkthroughs. Darkrides can be much more expensive - and likewise, the park opts for the cheaper option that satisfies the majority.

Hey Jake - wasn't specifically referring to your post, but the two after it simply referencing a product, and it's cost, without labour. Oh i'm sorry - I didn't realise you were a moderator. You did notice TWO of them continued the discussion here, right? Lights can also come under construction - since lights are part of the construction... Do you need a hand out of the backseat? -

Or you know what? you've just bought the most expensive ride in the park's history - don't cheap out. Buy two trains. Commit to run both of them every day. have one completely forwards, one completely backwards, and save money by not needing four queues - you can just have two. I kinda feel like theres some long-distance-train-seat technology that could be used here - have each seating row about to pivot to face backwards or something. I get the 'working within existing technology' thing, and its complete pipe dream, i know. i know its unrealistic. I'm just so very disappointed that based on the park's track record, it will probably be several years before the queue for the back row is short enough for me to be able to ride it. -

Well see that depends - if they'd thought about it before it went vertical, they could have hard everything fitted to the track, plugs at each end. Obviously after its up, fitting is a tougher job. So costs could vary, and yes it'd obviously cost easily double factoring labour - I wasn't ignoring that part, it just wasn't relevant considering the previous posts only talked about light costs. -

I don't know anything more than whats posted here, but i kind of get the feeling that the price includes the food.. just something about 'international food stations' as opposed to 'food stalls' -
@Levithian - i'm sure you know more than me, but my thoughts regarding the harnesses are because maintenance personnel wouldn't only be remaining on the stairway - they may be required to step off the stairway onto live track \ service platforms etc to inspect parts of the lift? So therefore having fall arrest \ travel restraint \ similar systems is directly as a result of that?

do pixel string instead of strip. 25c per light - you can pick the spacing. Even if you made it every 30cm, you're looking at about 4600 nodes = around $1200 or so (https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/12mm-bullet-type-DC12V-WS2818-RGB-full-color-addressable-LED-pixel-light-IP68-10cm-wire-spacing/701799_32770502185.html?spm=2114.12010612.0.0.j8sPlG) Now, sure - these aren't things that will last a decade, so triple the price for a more commercial quality unit, add another $500-$1000 for controllers and such - maybe go all out and buy a Pi to drive it all for you - you're gonna have the whole thing lit for around $5000. Now to sit back and wait for @djrappa to pick it all apart - as I know he's probably got a better idea. -

with a limited number of passes available I hope? I can see it now - they sell 4000 of them to a demographic that is able to visit everyday. based on the capacity of the ride - very unhappy customers. lol. For the first busy period, a premium upcharge would only piss people off further, but i can't disagree too strongly with your reasons. Either way, I agree - they will need to manage the demand VERY carefully. -

I know its a money spinner, but i'd be incredibly happy for MW to leave DCRHC off their fast pass program at least for the first 6 months... in fairness to all, its clearly going to be popular - why inflate the queue even further with someone riding it back to back all day? -
