Movie World / Village Roadshow fence toppers

perhaps when the lift hill goes up behind it it will make for an impressive backdrop. I give it 6 months before someone manages to steal at least one of those. -
Obviously that particular license agreement pre dates Hollywood and Japan. I'm open to someone supplying a current copy of the document since they've now licensed it in three different areas. As for the london attraction, this isn't proof that Universal doesn't have exclusivity - the terms specifically allow Time Warner to Leavesden was the site of most of the filming for the series, and hosts many film sets. Regardless of geography, I'd say they could easily do that without needing to define territory, but you have made your point and I stand corrected - at least until the current agreement surfaces.

So you want the VRS to build a facility large enough to replace all the current Studio 1 & 2 functions, elsewhere, so that the park can use them for a month per year, so that the purpose built facilities THE PARK BUILT FOR THE SAME REASONS can be used for something else? I disagree in terms of the 'cost a lot of money' part - set up costs are the big issue here, and showstage has much of what is needed already. Wonderland hosted an amazing illusion show in a vinyl tent, operated by 6 performers, 1 technician, and 1-2 backstage support staff. Operating costs are a fraction of those for a ride (which can be upwards of $1000 an hour - which is more like your wage cost for the day) - plus ushers. Other than the core stage performers, the rest of your show crew don't add to your costs, because most of your ushers, stage techs etc are already on shift for the day due to HWSD, Parade etc. i'll be happy with anything, so long as you stop suggesting WestWorld... firstly because I had to google it to even know what you were talking about, and secondly - because im sure you aren't suggesting they theme an attraction to the 1973 film, this tells me that you are suggesting a theme based on a series that only aired a little over 6 months ago. How about we give it a few seasons to ensure the writers can keep things fresh before we plow good real estate and good money after an attraction that hasn't proven itself beyond its first 10 episode season - especially when series 2 won't air for another 9+ months.. -

You're right about one thing - Time Warner does OWN the theme park rights. I misspoke. But unfortunately, here is where you're wrong - Time Warner have granted those rights to and Universal holds the EXCLUSIVE LICENSE for theme parks and all related attractions. Although WBMW did have a HP experience attraction for a couple of years (2001-2003), this was before the license agreement with Universal was made, which was announced publicly in 2007. Source: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1262449/000119312507178559/dex1041.htm \To wit: So... pretty much ANYTHING inside a theme park, et al: The current license term runs until July 2019, with two five year options, provided the park doesn't default - which they're unlikely to do for the same reason Orlando will retain its license to use the Marvel characters exclusively on the east coast. So Time Warner can't just decide to allow another park to use the HP license. Universal and Time Warner agreed to exclusive use by Universal, and the only way they'll release the exclusivity is if they choose not to renew the option (which would suggest the theme is losing its popularity anyway), or if their standards drop below the expectations outlined in the contract (and if Dreamworld can maintain the Dreamworks standards, the chances of Universal defaulting on HP is highly unlikely). Given Hollywood was announced in 2011, with Japan announced in 2012, the HP juggernaut at Universal is unlikely to end anytime soon.

I wouldn't say NEVER @Brad2912 - if the studios \ VRL \ MW know that their regular stages are clear for the period necessary to host a maze, it might give them an opportunity to do an 'extra' every now and again. The only point that needs to be made is that you can't rely on them to be available, and therefore you can't take the in-house facilities already designed for the purpose and use them for something else, or else you are back to square one. Better to build a NEW purpose built facility for whatever ride, show or attraction you want to make. Personally i'd like to see them revive the showstage with something before we start building new stuff out the back end. -

Mate - I know you're new here, so i'm going to be really really nice. You're a fucking muppet. @Levithian has already said they CANNOT USE THE STUDIOS FOR FRIGHT NIGHTS. This is WHY they built the sheds out near west. Muppet. Muppet. Muppet. Below is the west burgers building. You aren't worth my time with measurements and such, so i've included intencity for scale - as you can see, almost the entire building (if you exclude the skill games area at the top) will fit within the dodgem cars arena. Hardly 'quite large'. Seriously - just shut the fuck up. -
Ardent Leisure - Deborah Thomas steps down as CEO
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to cheski's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's been explained before. open an internet browser click in the address bar type "www.google.com.au" reading the article title words in the media link - type those into the search box. In this case "ardent-leisure-ceo-deborah-thomas-to-be-replaced-by-simon-kelly" (without the hyphens) Click 'search' Scroll through the results until you find the media outlet originally posted (in this case the Autralian), or - you know - feel free to read the same article from many other news outlets that don't have a paywall. Now you know how to do it, the first one has been done for you: http://bfy.tw/BR7T -

*sigh* I liked it better when Push was sulking and not posting much. I thought Joz was quite restrained, and to be honest Push, you got off lightly. Go back to your hole. -
^Well - we all know how much you adore darkrides, walkthroughs and monorails - but if you head for JL3D, theres a queue to the left for something called 'green lantern' - if you go down that queue, you'll notice that Sinestro has been in the park for a few years now... Yeah - you've got as much hope of Universal licensing HP to WBMW as you do getting Mickey Mouse licensed to Dreamworld.
-
Nothing says fun quite like taking your family to an asylum for some shock therapy. Oh do try to keep up. You aren't the first to suggest Harry Potter. Its NOT POSSIBLE. Despite WB being the production company responsible for HP, Universal own the rights to all theme park attractions and themed areas. Theme Park licensing is completely separate to film and film merchandise.

Having been on this with a group of people in full tuxedo, wedding dress, gowns etc at the end of April, I can assure you people do find it too hot inside the monorail, and climate control is sorely needed. I'm sure putting a unit on the roof would be the easiest - but also prohibitive because of clearances around the park - but i'm sure that isn't the ONLY option available to retrofit air conditioning units to the trains. If they are near end of life (Remember, although older, Sea World's trains get far less use than those in Broadbeach and Sydney) perhaps they do plan to upgrade them with models that have A/C Viewers of 'Shark Tank' a year or two ago would have seen @Lynton V Harris promoting \ paid advertisement \ whatever it was for launching Sharknado walkthrough. I think it was discussed on Parkz, and at the time, i think it was fairly easily assumed we would see it arrive at Dreamworld at the end of the Kevil Hill run (not to mention Sharknado would fit in much better with the Ocean Parade theme...) Ok, so I know this is going to be hard, because its very hard to make you see reason. So try this one - you have a 1978 Chrysler Sigma stationwagon. It's been your daily drive for decades, and its great. You love it. You've spent hours cutting and sewing shag pile floormats and dashmats. You've got the little beaded seat cover for the driver's seat, and the lambswool steering wheel cover. You spend every weekend lovingly polishing all the paint and chrome. You spend an hour every thursday applying armor-all to all the internal plastics and vinyls. (mechanics amongst us - settle down. none of this is meant to be technically accurate - just meant to describe a total and catastrophic failure for which there is no return) You've just taken it in for a service as it doesn't seem to 'feel' normal. Your mechanic let you know that you've got a few problems... the engine is going to need a complete rebuild. the gearbox needs to be replaced. There's rust deep in the chassis, and both of your axles are bent. Now, you're a reasonable guy - and you look at the fact that a 1978 Chrysler Sigma wagon is only worth about $1400 at the top end of the market, and with your current problems - most likely a lot less. But you love your car. You've had it for years. Many of your friends have had rides in it, and they love it too... But you're reasonable, like i said - and the cost of rebuilding the engine, replacing the gearbox, repairing the chassis, and replacing both of your axles is just far too much for a vehicle that will likely experience another costly issue not too far into the future... so you can throw a few thousand at it and get it to remain on life support for a few more years if you're lucky, or you can bite the bullet, retire the old girl for scrap, and utilise the large amount of space that the car occupies in your garage for something much better. I mean think about how much land the monorail utilises - prime land within the park - both front and mid stations are right on the main drag - Plus mid-station is somewhat reliant on the castle, if I remember correctly - and if we see the castle go, well... time to clear out the old garage! I for one would prefer if they would invest in NEW trains, but there are a whole lot of requirements for those trains - they'll have to fit in the same space, the track will have to be capable of powering them with all their modern gizmos (can anyone say Sydney Waratah?), and they'll have to be cheap enough that the park can justify the replacement and ongoing operation of something that, with the current park layout, really is obsolete. Only guests can use the resort station, so having just two other stations - front and mid station - its a really arse about long way to get from mid station to the front of the park (which takes ages), or a really long way to go from front to mid, when the time taken to climb to the station, wait for the train, wait for the single operator to unload, load, open and close gates and doors, and then travel at an ALMOST walking pace to Mid station - you could pretty well have walked there. So if they do replace the trains, they'll need to build at least one more station near the old Corkscrew site, and while they're at it they should also build an 'exit only' station over the carpark. Just a platform and a set of stairs that it only stops at in the last hour or so of the day to help empty the park a bit quicker. /rant

(Y)(Y)(Y) It's a shame. spoils the look. i'd have preferred to see the gates line up to the gatehouse itself... kind of like this:

I think what the uncouth uneducated moron above me is trying to say is since we've pretty well established that this isn't a launch coaster, the highest point would have to be the lift hill, as gravity needs to power the rest of the way... In other words - there are higher points than this to come. -
i echo @Slick's sentiments... it's just the panel of pool fencing in front of it that detracts from it - it does look like its meant to be permanent (i hope not) - but surely a few bollards would have been less obtrusive?

Normally? No. You'd only see them doing that if they had delays due to rain etc, and had to catch up to meet deadlines. -
thanks mate. Appreciate the info.

Not really - i can still see them having 'WWW only' entry for christmas parties at the shell etc... Wonderland managed to do it quite successfully.

I'm sure I could find it if I looked, but could you perhaps have included a link?

I know they've set the carpark up that way temporarily, but it strikes me that if they make that permanent, it would give them lots of expansion area over the old driveway... -

DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Construction is mainly dictated by access to the site. pieces will go in so long as they don't stop other pieces from going in. the higher parts will be later on in construction, but some high parts may have to go in earlier simply because of the difficulty of getting those pieces into position when others are already in position... if that makes sense... -
Meh. Wonka products aren't anything special. you'll find them in Aisle 5 of most supermarkets (cue those who have a different aisle number). Who cares if Dreamworld has more of the product. Theres no exclusivity with the product. it isn't licensed by or from WB, and nobody can blame MW for not having it - if i want to buy candy at a theme park, i don't want to buy something that will be overpriced (because a bottle of coke costs $5) that i can get elsewhere. When I worked at Wonderland, I would regularly visit the retail plaza after my shift. When I bought confectionery, it wasn't a regular off the shelf item - it was the giant lollipops and twisters - this sort of thing: give me something unique, and i'm more likely to buy it. for all I care they can get rid of all the wonka products entirely.

That doesn't look like paint removal... moreso it looks like they've had to patch it - perhaps something got a little scratched in transit or lifting, so they've had to patch the area - the grey looks like a primer \ rust protector, and they've probably let it dry before they come back at touch it up with the correct colour. If anyone sees them painting those areas, shout out to them and ask them what colour they're using!
