  1. Pictures of the floats in park appeared at least a week ago.
  2. Although what you've drawn makes sense, the orange section, permitting free travel between entry and exit means your blue lines won't do anything. Although RCT allowed us to make one way paths - in reality a painted arrow on a path or a no entry sign won't stop people from going against the flow. You'd have to staff it - and the efficiency isn't worth the staff cost. And that's precisely the issue - having all 3 coasters fed through one tiny pathway under the SE launch is cause for massive congestion. In my opinion, they will need to use both accessways - even though they can't enforce a one-way path, both accessways (JL and SE) will be needed to handle guest flow. Of course they could also extend out to Doomsday, out behind Arkham, which would see development \ sprawl go in that direction too, but it wouldn't be worth it just yet.
  3. i think the atmosphere (and the temperature) will make a january night event a success at Sea World under any name\theme. My only concern is that they tighten security. We all remember the stolen penguin debacle. There are plenty more places in SW a person could jump a fence and hide until close - and the animals are much more vulnerable than 'movie sets'.
  4. September 2054 is still 'in the coming months' - it just happens to be within the coming 450 months!
  5. That is a very different proposal to what was published earlier - it won't fix much, but bypassing the bridge - which is the narrowest section of the run to the M1 should help a little - and may even reduce 'non-spit' traffic on the GC hwy as it would link onto main beach parade giving another way to get to cavill and the main CBD.
  6. Both points are choked at times - for SE its the awning under the launch and for JL\GL its just the whole area - with JL exiting, and GL entrance queue which people frequently jump over - they're going to need to open them both, IMO, and preferably rework the design of the area around JL to accommodate it. Ideally one would be entrance and one would be exit, and that way you're not further compounding the problem by adding TWO WAY traffic into the chokepoint. It's not that far apart...
  7. Chances are if you ask @Jamberoo Fan really nicely, he might dig through his treasure trove to find some pictures.
  8. (sorry - I can't get rid of Mark's tag) I don't know @Slick - I think John Menzies is impossibly hard to fault in terms of what he built in his time at Adventure World...
  9. Which they appear to have at least identified something to help - the bridge across the broadwater from (i think) smith street eliminates the GC HWY clusterfuck past Australia Fair... I realise parts of Smith Street are just as bad, but hey - at least it will help... Plus - if you ever need parking on the spit - just keep driving past SW resort - you'll find heaps... It'd be great for them to do a 'spit tram' although maybe not with those connotations...
  10. A couple of thoughts i've had since the announcement: It occurred to me that staff at SW might be getting a little upset that MW staff were getting all the primo events - I presume that they would fill the night time roster with MW staff before seeking staff from the other parks - so this shares it around a little more too. I'd say Carnivale is a 'feasibility study' stage at SW at the moment - seeing if they can pull something off that gets the same level of praise. It is dangerous because previous visitors to Carnivale at MW will be using that as a yardstick. Nobody should go to these night events for rides (you'd only get 1 or 2 anyway) so SW's lack of rides isn't as big an issue as some see. The parade on the other hand is an issue - but - they do have the floats down there, and they have previously done a parade in the park with Spongebob... so its not IMPOSSIBLE. Remember too that the main drag up to the plaza has just been completely redone, with a pathway right through the plaza. I haven't seen it for myself so i'm not sure of the logistics, but could it be possible they would use the 'fountain' just as they used the fountain in MW as a turning circle to marshall the floats back the way they came? With the success of Carnivale at SW, I'm certain we'll see them come up with other night-time ideas to fill the gaps, although perhaps alternate throughout the year and give each park a turn. As Mickey said - for me, I'm confident we'll see VRTP release more \ different night time events (this is also a good opportunity to release a newer, higher tiered pass which offers entry to all of them). For all we know MW had another idea for an event, but couldn't accommodate it without losing carnivale, and its an event more suited to MW than SW. THat said, as has been pointed out too - SW is lacking in a lot of areas at the moment. Most people who do the night time events arrive during the day and spend some day-time in park as well - by hosting it at SW it might bring more day guests to the park as well. Also, as said - Dreamworld's reopening plan with the nighttime events included is a competing product. I think, given many passholders have carnivale included in admission will mean that both events will be regarded as an 'inclusion' to many. Charging non passholders just helps put a cap on attendance. If it fails, i'm sure we'll see price drops, or 'included in entry' - but for now, at least they have something to compete with Dreamworld. The one ace in the hole for VRTP - as slick says people are going to compare the two - one park hasn't just recovered from a high impact event that does actually impact people's decisions to visit the park. So for those people, if they were to compare, that in itself might be enough to tip the scales in VRTPs favour.
  11. On the contrary - there are plenty of places they could store track pieces without drawing too much attention - the catch would be getting them on property without being seen: Soundstages Boneyard behind WWF Second half of JDS It is unlikely that they would go to the effort of hiding it, especially after all we know already, but from what I understand - the 'Mack Crates' were initially stored back of house, and given they (belatedly) spraypainted over the crates, they have shown a tendency to want to hide things. Small pieces may initially get stored somewhere back of house, but when the big pieces start to arrive, it makes no sense to store them anywhere else, so whilst there are plenty of places to hide pieces, i'm sure we'd know if anything big had shown up. Perhaps the fence wraps are supposed to hide that (as if we aren't going to take photos over the fence! LOL)
  12. I don't know - I feel like Sea World is a much better suited atmosphere to host Carnivale, and its a positive step in the right direction towards seeing SW host night events too - given that they aren't as constrained as MW is by neighbours and noise (other than their own resort). I look forward to seeing Sea World host a few more night events in the future.
  13. King Tutt's has two I believe - the one near cavill and one out near carrara. I've been to the carrara one and although pleasantly landscaped, it was quite yawn worthy. My favourite Putt Putt on the coast is https://www.puttputtgolf.com.au/ they're in Mermaid Beach, so its a little further to go, but its a great day (or night) out, close enough to the beach to get the cool sea breezes, wonderfully landscaped and nicely themed, and plenty of eating options surrounding them including a pub right next door (so of course, @joz is in). Since we're covering them - google tells me that Parkwood (near the GC hospital) also has one. Their website shows little in the way of theme (it's attached to a proper golf course though) so it is very nicely set and landscaped, and is now on my list to check out http://www.parkwoodgc.com.au/mini-golf/ Side note - but I just want to congratulate @pushbutton on a really great idea for a thread. Considering people come here when planning their GC holidays, and they're mostly seeking theme park advice, this thread should be a gold mine of 'things to do that don't involve a day at a theme park' which most families look to schedule in when they have a week or more. Good job.
  14. not 'the best' in the world - just 'one of the worlds best'. I think the southern hemisphere is easier to claim, without running the risk they did when they promoted Green Lantern as steepest drop. I don't read anything into the pink, other than its a bright, fun colour that also makes transparency difficult - like a scrim. I'm pretty sure we've seen VR use this kind of 'pink' in other fence wrap and branding material - i had a quick search but can't seem to find any pictures though...
  15. It was a short lived addition to the Aqualoop installation, that I never saw operate. I sort of looked at it as a 'test seat' sort of thing - that people could try if they were apprehensive about doing the full loop. Wish it had have stayed around as just another experience in the park, but i presume there was some reason for it.
  16. I like the look of the current development. The spit isn't really anything special, and in a sprawling metropolitan area such as the gold coast where every possible skerrick of land has been built on, new developments are delayed waiting for older buildings \ blocks of land to sell. The gold coast needs reinvigorating to bring it into the current milennium. The first third of the spit has already been developed to a degree, with sea world taking up almost another third. The vacant block that this proposal is to be built on has no other purpose and this kind of development is sorely needed to take the pressure off the main drag. It has the added advantage of breaking the current height limits, paving the way for Sea World to perhaps get an exemption too, as they wouldn't be the sole 'break' to the skyline when right next to these towers. I like the look of it too - it is modern and aesthetically pleasing. The majority of people who would oppose it are the mainlanders in Southport who fear losing their ocean views. We could see SW get an observation tower, or another Eye - both attractions that are very suitable for the park and its location, as well as its demographic. Both attractions also have a decent capacity which is also sorely needed. Onto Wavebreak Island, it is man made - as the construction of the Seaway demanded it to prevent too much erosion to the rest of the broadwater. I'd have liked to have seen the cruise ship terminal \ casino proposal they had planned there - however that too was victim of too many people fearing change in their own backyard. For the GC to claim the title of tourism that it aspires to, not having a cruise terminal denies it an avenue of tourism that would really help the coast. There are too many locals there now that moved there because of the allure of the location, but now do not want it to grow and change to keep up with the changing needs of the primary source of income for the area.
  17. I don't believe so - although it has changed alot in the past 200 years, I believe it to be the product of environmental factors, sediment deposits from estuarine flows \ ocean currents and the like. I had a quick look around and these might give some more info: http://www.goldcoastaustralia.com/media/documents/Environmental_History_of_the_Spit_-_Broadwater.pdf And this http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/thegoldcoast/the-spit-history-2787.html edit: ok on reread you said 'reclaimed' not 'man made' so i guess technically it is 'reclaimed' depending on your view of the word - but it is entirely natural formation - at least up until the GC Seaway was built...
  18. No, it doesn't sound like this was planned or expected at all. It also sounds like Mark wasn't ready to leave... but as has been pointed out he's done so much good for that park, so its hard to swallow that he'd be asked to leave (or told to) - so something is up - and it doesn't smell right.
  19. Short answer is it sat on part of the land occupied by outback bay. It, and the dam for the powerboats. From park entry, boats first, then the maze. You can see the old powerboat dam in the top right of this photo. The maze is behind the trees to the left. http://www.parkz.com.au/photo/320-Chairlift/gallery/sort/newest/location/park-14/offset/86
  20. i don't think there is anything more worth trying to get out of the correction. Its unnecessary overanalysis, given the details we already know.
  21. I've not taken my tape measure with me, but if you compare it to say - Silver Bullet at Knotts, it is far more comfortable, roomy and accommodating. Additionally, as i've found with many of the Disney coasters - more room is available because they allow for loose articles (ie backpacks) to ride with you, so they design for that too. In all honesty, even if Grizzly is PRECISELY the same size as Silver bullet it doesn't matter - my point is that just like airlines, all any park has to do is SPECIFY certain minimums. I know a lot of coaster manufacturers have certain standards, but surely it wouldn't be too difficult to customise here and there.
  22. No - first suggestion was a coaster car without the divider. Second suggestion was to work with a manufacturer to develop a coaster car with a nice accommodating seat. There was an 'or' between the two lines you've quoted.
