Movie World speculation and dreaming - 2015 edition
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It wasn't so bad back in the day of the Stars Cafe - but since that has lain derelict for so long - they really should do something with that space.... or reopen it as an outlet - even if it's only a quick counter service takeaway... hell popcorn and postmix would do... just do SOMETHING -
No, I really do think he was serious about what he said...

"Unused shack\booth thing" ? is this the drink\popcorn\chips outlet themed as a Newspaper stand? Since when was it "unused" ? for as long as i've been going (albeit not for a while) that's always been the first outlet open as it was the only one accessible prior to 'rope drop'... On another note - I know we bagged the shit out of the parks previously for having plain hoarding fencing - which apparently prompted them to use this green 'hedge' overlay on all of their temp fencing... but it doesn't even fit the fence panels anymore, is applied carelessly, and looks like they don't care \ treat their guests with contempt. I know it's at a greater cost to do so - but they'd be better off rolling out a mesh-vinyl print of each park's 'home characters' - Justice League, Scooby Doo... even the 'movie star' characters... Nickelodeon \ Dolphins etc - even just park logos and promotional photos in a fun collage would be nicer than trying to pretend in any way that these fences are 'just a hedge'. Don't make them so specific they can only be used once - make them fairly generic whilst still capitalising on the park's imagery... sure you'll have to replace them if you lose the licensing to that particular IP but that doesn't happen everyday... (not to mention character specific hoarding is a great backdrop for character photos in-park!) I'm not saying you've got to go all 'disney' and individually wrap each and every hoarding in the exact imagery of what is or was once behind it... but this hedge crap is getting a bit of a joke these days... (Here's how Disney hoards a castle. Also worth noting they do the EXACT same thing with Main Street buildings etc) -
Adventure World 2015 - 'Mi2' Kraken Tornado slide

No - he's right - despite 8 years passing since opening (which of course I assumed little rippers were present) sources show little rippers did in fact open in September 2007 - 10 months after opening. I didn't visit in the first year, which is probably why I'd just assumed it was there from opening - especially since 'Wedgie' was touted to be the 'phase 2' replacement. So at 3, you've kind of got precedent.... EXCEPT - on further fact checking, I note that the Wedgie opened in April... so that's still only TWO rides opened in September - which is still hardly a precedent. -

You think it's a good idea to open a brand new attraction in the busiest time of the year? And what do you mean whitewaterworld opens their slides in early spring? they've only ever built TWO outside of initial construction!! Hardly precedent! And winter lasts the same period of time every year. the world hasn't slowed down... weather patterns may lead to a cooler spring, or a cooler autumn... but the opposite is also true - you can have a warm spring and a warm autumn - doesn't mean summer lasts longer either... -

Probably the smartest thing they could have done. Unlike the GC parks, that deem it necessary to launch their newest attraction on 26 December every year, and every year without fail, something goes wrong in their peak trading times. Opening in October does mean some fanfare is lost from not opening in peak season, but I think it's the smarter move - iron out the kinks in operations and automation before the queue stretches to the bottom of the hill and people start hating on you. Call it a soft opening and you can still have a 'ribbon cutting' on the first day of summer or something. I find myself wishing more and more that AW was on the east coast so I could visit... or at least so that the management of the east coast parks could visit and see how to do it right! -
Forgive my ignorance... Besides the X2 train - what other part of those rides (TOTII, X2, Zacspin) is made by S&S?

Eureka Mountain Mine Ride reopening discussion

So Ashley, the reason Will asked you that question is because you didn't really quantify what you were saying. So after reading your reply, it seems like what you've said is your speculation, and opinion. It seems like you're headed in the right direction... but its still speculation nonetheless. -
Not such an unlikely situation if you consider where the space program was up to in the 50s, and what they had achieved by 1970... if they hadn't canned the space program for other priorities, i'm sure regular trips to the moon would have occurred by then.
-
$2 * 52 = $104 $9 * 12 = $108 Plus then you've got merchant processing fees on 52 payments instead of 12... I know it's percentage based, but since they're using an external payment provider, the provider may also charge per transaction... The psychology of it would likely be much the same - it's still a dramatically cheap price be it $2/week or $9/month... far less than $108 or $144
-
I think though that this is a very good way at increasing the prices without 'bill shock' like in previous years. Yes - everyone's been conditioned to a $99 price point... Now - the pass is $108, or $144 with the night events included. Consider last year's passes included the night events at $99, they've already got people paying $45 more per year for it - and little to no uproar or complaints about it... when you break stuff down into a 'per month' price, it seems less of a difference... And they've already told everyone that the price will go up for next year... that's a whole YEAR for people to adjust to the new price point...hardly something a person will whinge about when they've known about it for a whole year... they're already paying $144, next year more.... it's BRILLIANT - and the perfect way to dig themselves out of the hole they've found themselves in. Plus, they've incentivised paying upfront by offering a month free if you do - just like pay by the month insurance - it costs less if you pay upfront... (Also - given the T&Cs, I foresee that VRTP will get at least 13 months out of everyone who pays by the month - by virtue of the "30 days notice" "after the first 12 months" Most people will miss providing notice early enough and be bound to pay the extra month... not that I can see many people cancelling that quickly.) I reckon we'll soon see passes rise back up to the ~$300 mark, which with all the inclusions is still excellent value.

for $10k - what i meant was the easy fixes that were already suggested, to make it less beige room and more subway station - like painting the pillars in that odd copper green colour. Doing something with the walls so they too aren't plain beige. These things wouldn't cost a lot, but would be a VERY noticeable difference the first time you saw them. Lethal's old 'graffiti wall' would fit right in in a subway station too. I'm sure there's a lot tech services could do with $100k though... and with the film school thing next door, how hard would it be to get them to design and build stuff as a major project that would be usable within the park? (and cost nothing) -

$10,000,000? Ten. Million. Dollars? in THEMING? (I'm sure you mean $10,000 or $100,000 right?) I would say $10,000 would make a noticeable difference.... $100,000 would put some of the technical people at VRTP into a 'kid in a candy store' situation that would really give us some "wow"... I'd probably throw that much at JDS and make it look much better \ more real first though. I'd love to see VRTP throw money at one attraction each year on a "whether it needs it or not" basis just to let the guys behind the scenes come up with ideas on how to 'make it better'. This would see a cycle of continuous improvement go throughout the park. I'm not talking millions - maybe only 100k a year or something outside the current maintenance \ refresh regime. -

But the earthquake doesn't hit until you're on board - the theme is that you're going for a ride on the MRT. If the lights in the station were flickering - that would suggest that the earthquake had already hit, in which case what are you doing queuing to get on board a subway train when you should be evacuating the station? -

DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Trevor A Knott's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Thankyou for your application to create a new thread. Unfortunately your chosen topic was created 14 months ago: It was also commented on less than 15 minutes before you created this thread. The CEO of Adventure World - Mark Shaw - has also been commenting in that thread. But - you already knew that didn't you? We regret to inform you that in this occasion, your application has been unsuccessful. In future - to improve your chances - we recommend a quick scan of the site to determine whether we've actually known about it longer than you have *(usually we have). Further, if its the day the park is announcing it in an exclusive broadcast with a major media outlet (Perth - Today Tonight, Channel 7), chances are we've already studied nearmap, determined the placement of the footers, suggested, and shot down hundreds of different theories on what it could be, and - usually with the help of some inside knowledge - all but determined what it will be prior to the announcement. Thanks for playing!- 2 replies

Movie World Pyro Explosion Accident?-History
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to lifeofsamage's topic in Theme Park Discussion
So here I was thinking that there had been an accident on the set of HWSD today and I get in here to find out it's a hearsay story of something 15 years ago. Perhaps the thread title could say something about the historic nature of the incident, or that it was rumor, not fact? On an unrelated note - how funny is it techies, roadies and stagies tend to gravitate towards theme parks also? I know a lot of amateur (and professional) guys on these boards within that industry...
