Movie World Pyro Explosion Accident
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to lifeofsamage's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This is a duplicate thread, and should probably be locked \ deleted. -
Absolutely - it's theoretically possible, but as I said before - extremely unlikely. When you consider the tension it is under pre-launch, if it doesn't break on the pad - it's not likely to break in the air. Has anyone EVER heard of one of these things snapping mid-way through the ride? or only on the ground? Research: Here's one 15 years ago. The story says either a cable has snapped, or a mechanism at the end of the cable failed and detached shortly after launch in this incident: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2000.html#jul21a This one in 2001, where it says that one of the cords disengaged (wtf?): http://www.rideaccidents.com/2001.html#jul29b This one - cable snapped before release: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2002.html#jun9 This one snapped midair also, although it specifically states that the line that snapped was steel wire rope, and not bungee cord (the video of the incident two days ago is clearly bungee cord): http://www.rideaccidents.com/2002.html#aug5 This one is a big oops - the operator launched the gondola before the loaders had secured the harnesses!: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2004.html#aug9 This one attributes the incident to a cable that connects the bungee cord to the cage failing after launch: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2005.html#jul24 This one just before release: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2006.html#may7 This one is a bit odd - the bystander says she saw the cord shred like confetti 'as it stretched' but seems the cage was released as it crashed into the tower 70 feet up... http://www.rideaccidents.com/2006.html#aug2b Seems like a bit of a mixed bunch - but from what I can gather: specific failures of the bungee cord are almost certainly pre-launch.Slingshot type rides that use bungee cords that fail after launch are mostly attributed to a 'connection mechanism' or similar - ie - the actual bungee doesn't snap, but the device connecting it to the cage failsPost-launch failures specifically of the line that connects the cage to the tower appear to mostly be steel-wire-rope-and-spring type slingshotsAlthough I haven't provided links to all 'slingshot type' accidents, the remaining ones were usually injuries to bystanders due to poor operation - ie: not the failure of a cord-related component. In two particular incidents - one operator was struck by the cage as he was not where he was supposed to be, and in the other incident, the operator was struck by the cage as he had failed to lock the cage into the launch mechanism properly, and it rolled backwards ontop of him when he commenced the pre-launch process.

Sea World - Creatures from the Deep
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Zanstabar's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'd suggest that since the park didn't build, and doesn't own the creatures, their existence in the park would be based on popularity and whether the owner of the creatures gets another contract elsewhere - just like Dinos. Given SW is so restricted in usable space, using a large tract of land for 'sculptures' that don't really do much is probably not the best use of land in the long term. The creatures will stay until the land is needed for something else, or until they are no longer popular. I *shudder* at the thought of COTD being a permanent Attraction... *yawn* I mean sure it's new, and wow now - but in 10 years time, is the whale going to be so 'wow' ? or is it going to be covered in bird shit and ready for a bulldozer? Precisely. -
^yeah thats my line of thinking, but what Reanimated has saif as far as the order makes sense... but to expand AC's answer to Reanimated's question - After launch, the cord accelerates the pod upwards. At some point (which is far lower than halfway up the tower) the cords are fully contracted and there is no further acceleration imparted onto the pod. The pod immediately begins decelerating with gravity, and the higher it goes, the slower it gets as the cord slowly dampens the speed of climb. Because of this, the pod does not stretch the cord anywhere near as much as it is at launch, as it is slowed by both gravity and the cord...

Thing is though - Random Rollercoaster No. 1 that doesn't really have a theme to ruin with sponsorship (think Revolution as an example) why not slather it in advertising? You wouldn't do a full-vehicle wrap on Space Mountain trains, but Knott's Boomerang, SFMMs Revolution... where there isn't really any 'theme' to ruin, I have no problem with it.
-
As I see it - the most likely time for the cord to snap is whilst you're on the launch pad - it's the time when the cord is under the most stress, as it is being stretched whilst holding the gondola on the ground... from the moment you're launched, the cord is placed under less stress than pre-launch, and is therefore extremely unlikely to break, if it didn't break pre-launch. How many Rubber Bands can you stretch out to their fullest extend, and then have them break once you reduce the stretch? Of course, over time things weaken and stress and eventually you're going to have a failure - but with the pre-launch strain-and-hold, that would be where my money is.

Which, funnily enough is the same thing you could say for Dreamworld...

Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced

This is pretty much my own words for the 2014 FN, and reasons why I didn't bother. I've been to most at least once, but the increased crowds without any additional effort to deal with those crowds soured it for me. Instead of opening another Maze to soak up another 1000 punters - they started selling skip the line passes instead - thereby making everyone else's waits even longer. The event is getting far too big for them to continue managing it the way they managed it in 2009. Time for someone to shake things up - get an extra maze or two established somewhere, and utilising ALL the park's space (Western Town included) for crowd-soaking activities...

That's probably the meanest thing i've ever heard you say - and yet still you did it so politely. Yes - you may be right. However - it may be that Clayton is just an asshole.

Luna Park Sydney - the future with Wet'n'Wild
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to JulieLovis's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^I wasn't suggesting they do - I was saying that the Illusionarium is a permanent attraction for them, so there is no reason why LPS couldn't make this proposed attraction permanent... -
If it moved time too fast, and no action was taken to correct it - it would eventually catch up to the 'correct' time once it had accelerated 12 hours beyond normal time. Or are you saying it keeps correct time, but it is set incorrectly? In which case in your example if you set it to the right time and it keeps correct time then it would be right more than twice per day but at the same time, it wouldn't be broken then, would it?

Well one can read the forums without signing in - but I feel certain he'd have a Parkz profile so that he could ask questions on things he didn't know...
-
Yep - as I said - i think the photos the page provides are great (I don't subscribe to it - I only see it when someone posts it here to parks - usually with all due credit, or at least with watermarks showing) - they usually are the first to get photos of stuff - it's the content when they cite other people's material that i have the problem with... I can understand that. I follow a page for a certain wholesale warehouse store, and the people on there ask the same questions every day - what time is it open? what time is the attached side-business open? are they open on XX public holiday? So many questions are asked there that have either been asked 1000 times before, or are freely, easily and readily available on the website... and people still ask. He's probably found so many people ask the hours, that he just provides it every day to try and avoid the question being asked! People are stupid! (And this is why they invented www.lmgtfy.com )

You never know - Aussie World's Illusionarium is permanent... -
Looking at facebook - the time difference is closer - the quote is 5 hours after your post, but the Facebook post was a few hours earlier - so there's every likelihood they've seen your post, gone straight to facebook and posted it as a 'report'. ...I have no proof that the two are related - it just seems very coincidental... and this isn't the first time for such coincidences! To be honest though - I'd have no problem if they posted something like: "the word over at Parkz is that it might reopen in time for the September school holidays! Stay tuned for more! <link to thread>" It just pisses me off, and is generally the reason why I don't share insider info until i've seen it come out from other sources... because I know some asshole is going to go and use it and claim it as their own.

I already am - ever since Woolworths teamed up with Qantas Frequent Flyer... Fly Buys just doesn't cut it... I went on my honeymoon on QFF points... every little bit counts! If anyone is going buy LPS this week - can you look for this guy? He seems to be missing in action... http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091230232929/sonic/images/0/03/Yoshi_19.png -
Movie World speculation and dreaming - 2015 edition
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
If they get rid of the giant screen in the arena so they can retheme it - i'm camping out outside security for the next lot sale... Mad Max involving lots of vehicle stunts could see them re-purpose the 'car flyover' rig on the bridge too... this really has merit... -
Minus one for any FN entertainment that involves FMX people. Motorbikes aren't scary... plus until recently, you could see them do the same thing during HWSD and the Ekka.

Oh look - another TPSN prediction! And my response to that one. Here's another 'inside story' but since OG is not known for sprouting wild speculation, i'm inclined to be cautiously optimistic that her source is reputable, and likely to be correct... 5 hours after OG posts in Parkz saying her source suggested it would be up for the School Holidays - TPSN is now posting there's a 'chance' it will open in September - use of weasel words! Chance means if it doesn't - don't blame them... but if it does, you heard it hear first folks! what an exclusive!!! :puke: ^Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Push - there's a difference between a person who is a member of a forum, or a facebook page going on the page with info and\or speculation, and the SITE OPERATOR or PAGE OWNER throwing around speculation. The recent release by Sea World announcing the rides for the children's area - and in particular the type of coaster that was coming - was fact checked by Richard and confirmed through different sources before Richard posted the article. That's responsible journalism. I would speculate that the TPSN's "source" for the September rumor is no more than what they read, on Parkz, as posted by OG, which they've claimed as their own and posted. That's shoddy journalism, yet this page acts like it's THE only place to get park info... when it gets it's own info from other sources. It's a sham. It's ok to make mistakes if you're just a person, sprouting your own opinion... but when you're holding yourself out to be this: A little more professionalism, and a little less "oops" is kinda a prerequisite to be taken seriously, don't you think? I mean - come on - here's the post referred to: No source - just 'reports' - not even 'our insiders in the park are saying...'I won't pick on capitalisation but i should."reports are vary""stay turned"Enough said. Push - I think you would have figured out by now that nobody (not even the Community Leaders) really give a shit about your Kum-Ba-Yah feelings towards the world. You're misguided if you think "everyone is filled with goodness". You obviously have something in common with me - but you don't see me rushing out to buy you a beer, or swerve to miss you in my car... Some people just don't get along. Some people earn themselves a reputation - TPSN has earned a reputation on these pages as a thief of information, and a plagiarist of content. They spout rumors as news, and they don't care where those rumors come from - so long as THEY'RE THE FIRST ONES WITH IT! And I think that reputation is fairly obvious by the number of people on this site who treat information from them with disdain. The only thing they ARE good for is regular photo updates of the parks - which I presume is because they don't have a job, and probably still go to school. Here's a rumor you can take to the bank - in 2-6 years, "reports suggest" the page operator will graduate high school - and chances are there will be a massive downturn in the content TPSN provides, and it will die quietly like so many others. Parkz has been around for over a decade - and is still going strong... it's the only news source I need for Aussie parks.

Yeah I can agree with that...

Movie World speculation and dreaming - 2015 edition
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Brad2912's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Main reason I said to go for 'making a movie' was the big screen, and all of the filming-related hardware. You don't need all of that if you're just showing the 'sequel'.... it'd be an incredible waste... thats my only thought on it.
