  1. Problem is that wouldn't be sensational enough. It'd be seen as just a propaganda film or advertisement and be quickly discarded. THis is (rightly or wrongly) given legitimacy of the independent nature of the production. I guess the only thing to say is - look at McDonald's after Supersize Me. I doubt it's going to hurt them in any lasting way. The only people who can hurt them (government regulators) would know or easily discover the truth.
  2. My limited googling at work didn't immediately return a result - but how much is the fast track if not included for free with the pass? that would add to the value and potentially negate the need to 'do one or two other attractions' depending on the cost...
  3. My first visit to Knotts was in 1996... and i'm struggling to remember an animatronic dinosaur ride... any more info on this?
  4. I'm with Gazza.. for the money you've spent crossing to the other side of the world... one extra day to do both parks would be well worth it.
  5. ^Now THAT I could see happening. The name escapes me right now, but wasn't there an island somewhere off the coast of queensland that had a failed resort, that recently got sold off? Not sure that it's big enough - but Disney has been looking at Australia for ages and i'm sure they'd love to offer guests an 'australian' experience with a truly 'Disney' feel to it. We may not be big enough for a theme park just yet, but a resort is most definitely something they could do. Good call Aaron.
  6. Good, articulate and to the point. Thanks for the good reviews.
  7. Sea Viper has been doing ok. I'd recommend doing WnW a second time after holidays are over if you're into slides as you likely won't get on everything during the hols - especially the last weekend which is also australia day weekend. I would expect the days you're planning to visit MW and SW you're likely to get through pretty quickly and multiple rides at MW are likely with short (<5min) queues. Sea World is fairly steady also, and if you like the shows then I recommend either checking the website or alternatively downloading the Themeparks.com.au app for iPhone or Android so that you can check out showtimes before arrival. (the app also has special offers for food and merch occasionally as well). Pick the shows you want to see, try and get them all in a block instead of spaced throughout the day - you'll rush a little bit between some shows, but it will leave you with the other half of the day clear to enjoy the rest of the park. As with previous advice, if Movie World or Sea World are busy, try to ride the more popular longer wait time attractions such as superman and scooby, and Vikings and Storm when the major shows - hollywood stunt driver and Imagine are on (respectively).
  8. For numerous reasons, I can't see them ever building on the gold coast.
  9. It doesn't matter either way - but it is clearly 'No Climbing' It is.
  10. 1. I believe the reason they wave you past the first right turn is that is where the majority of their mobility impaired disabled parking is. I'm pretty sure the attendant is scanning your windshield to see if you have a permit, and if not, waves you past. After that its a free for all... so I don't think 'half assed' I just think they're spending money there wisely to accommodate differently abled guests. 2. Last time I got a Q4u the 'first' person was more expensive (can't remember but maybe $45 or something like that), and then $15 per person thereafter... so if it's just a straight $15 per person, i'd say the interest in it has waned - but it would be a good way of milking extra revenue out of world pass holders who otherwise wouldn't spend money each visit 3. Log rides not themed to mines? This one is themed around a cute little story involving forest animals... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BCIfYc9r8s This one to an enchanted forest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtGxaGbVwko And this one - well... who knows what this one is? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFjvi1cGs18 4. The name of the park is 'dream world' and their slogan is 'so many worlds in one'. If it were just something simple like 'ride some thrilling (and not so thrilling) rides then I could wear that, but they are trying so very hard (and failing) at being a theme park. They ARE as bad as we say because they claim to be themed, and they fail miserably at it... for the same reason they keep getting slammed over MDMC - because they claim it as a thrill ride, when it clearly isn't.
  11. Tender processes for private entities aren't always the best approach... In many cases, friends of the panel, or the lowest bidder gets the gig - and it isn't always best to go with the lowest bidder... i've seen many events fail because of inexperienced and poorly resourced organisations that were punching well above their weight. What everyone in Sydney needs to realise right now is that many park operators are watching with interest at what goes on down there in prospect, and the more they critique the park, and pour shit on it, the less likely they are to get another. If Sydney starts rolling downhill fast, I could see VRTP going up-stumps and moving all their world class attractions to the gold coast and abandoning the property... its extremely unlikely, and they'd take a terrible loss - but it could happen.
  12. The Glebe Island White Bay proposal was talked about on this very forum a while back, i'm almost certain of it - few details were known, but the fact that they were thinking about it certainly was. It is weird to see fairfax pulling the story out 5 years after it happened though...
  13. I just returned from the future where I can assure you all - it does come down - here's footage: http://youtu.be/wnYXbJ_bcLc?t=1m21s
  14. Well it won't be nothing - if they're doing high falls, there isn't much to fall from except the main facade - and you need a landing zone... maybe a dumpster in front of one of the buildings filled with foam the way PASS did it?
  15. There's always the possibility that Dreamworld will actually do something without expectation of profit too.... shahh... and monkeys might fly outta my butt. As DjRappa said, he asked a question on an unofficial website, and he got several unofficial answers. Sure - the park may in their discretion do something against their own T&Cs, but that becomes dangerous... the minute you do something against your own rules, you show people that the rules don't have to be followed in each and every case - that enlivens the expectation that if they want the rules changed for them, it will happen too. All they have to do is complain loudly enough - again - entitlement complexes. It's a refund on change of circumstance. Sure - he's moving, and i'm very sorry that he seems to have wasted his money on the pass, but he committed to purchasing a season pass on the basis he wasn't moving, and given he has his MyBand, he has most likely visited the park at least once. His circumstances changed - why should the park lose revenue that they've already 'booked' just because he won't be able to use the pass again? He has used it, and benefited from it - does that just become a 'free entry'? No - he's used it. Charge him a single day admission and give him the difference back? That's possible I suppose, but not really worth pursuing, is it? If the park changes their policy on such matters - sure - but so far, they haven't suggested anything different to normal operations with normal entry terms and conditions - and that is the answer we gave him.
  16. Disney does fire well in dark rides without gas or flame - just lights, fans and fabric. It may be that the features were installed, but the certifiers wouldn't sign off because of a risk of (uncontrolled) fire because the effect was too close to something... and that's put them back to the drawing board? That may explain the response you got from guest services. Many dark-rideattractions use fire. It's safe where it's done properly. Bermuda did it for many years - Wild West Falls had sparkers before the fire. Backdraft at universal studios (and then the Mummy). It can be done... and with the heat elements etc present in the ride already, they've definitely tried to do so... but who knows what will come of it if there is a problem.
  17. I disagree - Night WhiteWaterWorld is $25 for 3.5 hours as a separately ticketed event... and dare I say - it appears to be popular enough to continue for the summer season. Although there is no pricing for the 2014 Screamworld events, last year's tickets started from $29.99 (group of 4, booked online). Given the parks have single day tickets for up to $89.99 (VRTP), a cheap 'limited hours' after dark ticket would probably sell reasonably well. Increase the cost of the world pass to compensate for the added benefits of repeated night-time access (or make night time access for world pass holders $5 or something ridiculously cheap) and you're set... You're not really losing anything to the world pass holders (and guarantee you'll capture a lot of them with the 'dinner' market) but you're also gaining visitors that may want to 'check out' the park but don't have the time (or the bank balance) to visit during the day.... it's like 'Dreamworld Lite' - the sampler.
  18. They may be, but the terms and conditions printed on the ticket and accompanying the pass say that once registered, the season pass is not transferrable or redeemable for cash. The T&Cs for our parks are pretty common knowledge, and standard terms of use with most organisations won't refund a product once used (unless defective). Your statement that only your reply provided "useful information" (because you're the only one who told him to call the park) is incorrect - firstly because although not 'official' everyone else's advice is on the 'right track' and is the generally accepted view of the park's T&C's... therefore it IS useful because it gives him an idea of the park's likely response. Secondly - my reply at least addressed the question seriously and logically, explaining why the answer was no, instead of being couched in sarcasm. Just because members here are (or are not) employees of the park, doesn't mean that the cannot express an opinion, view, or provide advice, and doesn't mean that anything they do offer isn't helpful. Personally I believe that the answers by Westical and Myself were far more courteous and helpful than yours. The fact that we didn't post contact details (including for New Zealand - WTF?) is irrelevant given you had already posted them. We were simply adding to the discussion and providing further, less sarcastic, more helpful advice.
  19. As i've said several times in the past - my wife is a construction administrator for a very large building company in queensland. The construction they do undergoes several 'certification' or 'approval' steps, which include among others: approval for the development approval for the plumbing sewerage plans gasfitter's certification 'final' approval which is an inspection done by the council to confirm that all the conditions of the construction have been adhered to Theres a bunch of others, and i've probably gotten the names wrong, but you can get approval to build, and then get the 'building' signed off, but that doesn't mean the gas fittings were signed off. The relevant authorities would sign off that the construction was completed as per the DA, but the gas supply cannot be enabled until the authorised gas fitter has certified the work. Think caravans - you can build a caravan from scratch, and get it registered by the department of transport (it's nothing but a trailer at the end of the day) - but the gas fittings installed need to be certified by a gas fitter separate to the registration... and you can't use the gas stove until that's done... make sense?
  20. If they wanted to make screamworld REALLY popular - they should do it how Wonderland did it - not have a separate 'gate'... don't close at 5pm and open at 5:30... just stay open. It wasn't that hard for Wonderland to run $5 after 5... (which naturally would be more expensive these days) but let your day visitors stay if they want to - chances are a lot of them will leave, but a cheaper 'after 5' ticket would make up for it. Rather than trying to make your money at the gate so much - be thankful for getting more through the door for a lower fee, and then upsell with flashy crap. Do some research and have a fireworks laser show. Sell those weird 'starburst' 3d glasses that make one light turn into 100. charge $5... make a mint. I remember Wonderland doing a Michael Jackson 'tribute' style show at lakeside to celebrate the release of the album 'History' (might have been dangerous but i think i was too young for that). They had dancers on stage, and the concessions were queued up 12 deep for popcorn, drinks and other novelties. They did a fireworks show each night over behind the demon and it was popular as all hell - you couldn't move. I don't know what 'trading hours' restrictions the park has - but right now - the best thing Dreamworld could do is offer a product that Movie World can't - extended night-time trading with all rides open, for a discounted admission after 5pm. I sometimes finish work in Brisbane at 2-3 in the afternoon. I often want to take a trip down to the park for the afternoon - the fact that they close at 5pm means thats pretty pointless... but if they were charging $20 after 5pm (until say - 10pm) i'm there. This would drive attendance, and would bring in more direct and indirect income which in turn would improve the bottom line and let them install something more than just 'filler'.
  21. I'm guessing he was too fat to ride Aqualoop? The mybands have a photo on them - i guess it's how closely the gate attendants are paying attention. Of course, since the park has stopped selling season passes, and now only has day tickets available, maybe some people think that others will pay big bucks for a season pass? Confirmed - the first listing ($200 for one gold pass) I looked at mentions prominently that you cannot buy the passes from the park anymore. Interestingly, it also states: Bid carefully shoppers... you don't want to buy a second hand season pass with rust on it!!! Second listing - $300 for 2x silver passes Third - $240 for 1x silver pass... (this one comes with free delivery! BARGAIN!) Fourth one is best value - a gold pass for $200 Fifth - gold pass for $150... this guy appears to just want to get his money back, rather than profiteering on it - and even goes so far as to mention all the opening dates for th epark for the rest of the season... seems legit. Sixth - gold pass (with $40 credit on it) for $240... if it has credit on it, i'm inclined to think that it has already been registered, but the listing says it hasn't.. sold by the same guy selling number 4... interesting. So - in a nutshell - if you have registered the pass, have your 'myband' and had your photo taken, you can't transfer it. You can however sell the 'ticket' to someone else before you register it. Given Swagjord says he has a wristband, that tells me it's registered, and therefore in his case, the answer is no.
  22. And that's why some people will always choose premium over budget - VRTP over Ardent. No matter where I go, I fly with Qantas over any domestic carrier, and internationally depends on where i'm heading, but so far Qantas has always worked out to be better. Sure they may not have sexy stewardess' on board, but everything is included. Alcohol - included. Meals - included. Snacks - included. Want more snacks? ask for them or on the A380 - help yourself. Discretely let the cabin manager know you're on your honeymoon and watch out for what happens... I'm quite happy to pay more for premium better service. It's why I think the USA tipping system works well - but it would never work here because prices on products would have to drop to compensate for the tipper - and to do that, wages would have to drop - and no employee would vote that one in. It's why I'll always buy a fright nights fastpass from now on. It's ok to cater to the masses with a budget product (VIP pass or World Pass) but you've got to offer a better experience for a little more money (what VRTP tried to do with the gold pass), because people will pay it... thats how you make money... but offering a premium turd over a regular turd isn't going to cut it (dreamworld) and that is why i've only owned one annual pass for dreamworld which was never renewed, and won't be until the park turns around.
  23. Come on T-Bone... They just spent money on a BRAND NEW1 AUSTRALIAN MADE2 LOCOMOTIVE3! 1 Almost 2 not quite 3 if you can call it that.
  24. Actually, your usage would fall more in line with http://www.apra-amcos.com.au/MusicConsumers/OnlineMobile/Ondemandmusicandotherservices.aspx Last time i got involved in something like that it was $300 a year, but i was using commercial music a lot heavier than you likely would.
