  1. Joz, your warner village crowd control methods are not likely to work here. I might suggest the approach of the Rural Fire Service in a non-threatening bush fire... Stand back, let it burn until there is no more fuel left, and it dies out on its own... Just waiting for the fuel to be banned... i mean... burned... I must admit though this is the longest absence I have ever seen Richard take from the forums... He shoulda stepped in HOURS ago...
  2. Well don't let the ICMP hit you on the way out. Honestly, I welcome new members to the forums with open arms but quite seriously, I fail to understand how you can be so immature about something, and get poopy and resort to petty name calling when you are put in your place. Im not sad to see you go, quite honestly, but you should realise that we are not out there to get rid of you, to make you feel uncomfortable like you have to leave.. this site is for everyone, provided everyone can interact harmoniously. All the other members of the site are trying to do is point out that you have made a wrong, and try to assist you to correct it. But when you get your backs up over being corrected, thats where they get annoyed with you, and just want you to bugger off. Im not that old myself, but If I got corrected when i was younger, I learnt from it, I didnt backbite my arse off at the person who was trying to help. pre-teens these days... ugh *shudder*
  3. Steve$, your most recent post adds nothing meaningful to this discussion. I perceive this post as an attempt to poke fun at Joz, a well respected, and connected member of our community. As I have stated in the Site Issues forum, would you kindly read the community guidelines and follow them. Im going out on a limb here to say that I preferred Nightshifter to yourself, or AUSNRL. At least he had the common decency to at least attempt to follow the guidelines.. and while his posts were not always meaningful, he at least gave a detailed explaination of what his point was (when, and if he ever had one). now rack off. I'd rather remove navel lint for a living than continue to be plagued by your posts of drivel and nonsense.
  4. Ok since the question was asked as to why they closed it, there arewere several possible reasons, that could have (but isn't limited to) included the following: Their reasons in the press release were correct, and it was too big, although given the truthfullness of the other press releases we have seen, thats not likely. Their plans to expand the Australian wildlife park to include exotic and foreign animals, to create a zoo needed the land (Stephen Galbraith said as much in an internal staff function) They could have needed to relocate the entry driveway to the park directly off the M4, as they had a large industrial buyer that wanted to buy the land currently occupied by their driveway at the time. They wanted to tear up LWL, and remodel it as a "marvel" themed land, which would require its closure for several months. I can come up with many explainations. the one it their press release was a crock, but the making way for a zoo is an option tossed around by Stephen Galbraith often during my employ there around 2002. Bottom line is nothing was done because Sunway was gearing up to sell it anyway.
  5. and see theres a prime example of a tourist attraction, in the MIDDLE of the Western Suburbs, even IN suburbia itself, rather than outcast on a lot miles from a housing development.... and its still thriving!
  6. Featherdale Wildlife Park - Doonside USELESS where do you think all the tourists headed for the mountains, that used to stop at wonderland go now? Parklea Markets - Parklea NOT A TOURIST ATTRACTION Personally, when i travel overseas, i do a lot of my shopping, and gift buying at the markets in the area, as you get some great bargains. Parklea is as much a tourist attraction as paddys markets in the city. Penrith Whitewater - Penrith GOVT OWNED, HUGE LOSS MAKER i can promise you with the exception of the homebush precinct, Penrith Whitewater MAKES more money than any other venue created for the olympics. Olympic Rowing and Regatta Centre - Penrith FAIR ENOUGH how can you say this is fair enough? it doesnt charge admission except on regatta days. it makes less money than whitewater, and costs loads more to maintain. how is this fair enough, if whitewater is a huge loss maker? Olympic Sites (multiple) - Blacktown City LOST $1.6m LAST YEAR ALONE - MASSIVE WHITE ELEPHANT nobody said that at the olympics. i seem to remember something about best games ever. but besides that Zordy, government owned properties are not meant to make money... thats what taxes are for.l Warragamba Dam - Warragamba CLOSED SINCE 2002, UNLIKELY EVER TO REOPEN DUE TO TERRORISM FEARS i severely doubt that. Warragamba has been undergoing huge construction to put in a new slipway, as well as numerous other improvements in the structure itself. it will reopen when the engineers are happy for it to reopen. Vicary's Winery - Mulgoa Area RESTRICTED HOURS depends on your definition of restricted hours... by my definition, wonderland had restricted hours... Vicary's Woolshed - Mulgoa Area RESTRICTED HOURS Ditto Mean Fiddler and Woolshed - Kellyville ITS A PUB NOT A TOURIST ATTRACTION the woolshed itself is still a target for tourists to experience a dinner show
  7. my point exactly.... somebody call Guinness World Records or Ripley's.... Bus and I concur on something!
  8. Thing is bus, it never used to be like that. So - parramatta to the base of the blue mountains - heres a list of current or previous attractions within that region. In compiling this list, I didnt actually touch parramatta, which also has a number of fine tourist attractions as well.... Mt Druitt Waterworks - Mt Druitt {Closed} Formula 1 Street Racing Track - Mt Druitt (it was there... look it up){Closed} Cables Waterski Park - Penrith {Closed} Wonderland Sydney - Eastern Creek {Closed} Featherdale Wildlife Park - Doonside Parklea Markets - Parklea Penrith Whitewater - Penrith Olympic Rowing and Regatta Centre - Penrith Olympic Sites (multiple) - Blacktown City Warragamba Dam - Warragamba Many, Many, MANY Historical Sites, such as Mulgoa Homestead, Pugh's Lagoon, Countless sites within the RichmondWindsor (Macquarie Towns) District. Vicary's Winery - Mulgoa Area Vicary's Woolshed - Mulgoa Area Mean Fiddler and Woolshed - Kellyville Nepean Gorge - bushwalks and hikes - Nepean Valley Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre - Penrith Panthers (hey many tourists come to stay and play there) - Penrith And ok - so I my results are a little more biased towards penrith but thats because i live there... i came up with this list in 3 minutes, and im sure theres plenty more out there that would bring the tourists in. i've said it before and i'll say it again, IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME No, im not really a staunch labor supporter, and I believe John Howard has done his bit for our country, albeit sucking on the USA's teat. My comment was simply directed at the staunch Liberal supporter, who seemed to be campaigning for PM in 2006...
  9. In keeping with the original scope of this forum, here is some more information. When the park was originally set up, the american influence reigned (from King's) in the setting up of the radio system. Call signs, and codes were used, so that anyone capable of picking up wonderland's system (which wasn't too hard - no crystal tone lockouts were used) would not be as easily interpreted. each department had an allocation of radios that it would use, each radio numbered, and each number was delegated a certain task. retail for instance had a radio for their management team, however frequently radios would be given to games or outlet operators in locations without a phone or isolated from assistance. The retail team had 3 digit codes for their radios, which all started with a 4. Im sure Bus could tell us what codes attractions used as well. Security had their codes for a while but later changed it to a simple S1, S2, S3 approach...Attractions management team had one each, and radios were allocated to certain rides that for one reason or another required one - again mainly those without phones (the phone system was a joke there) ok so as far as the codes, firstly was the usual "10" codes, so overused by american police tv shows, and still in frequent use by the american police forces (although the list for the police is somewhat larger in size) such as 10.4 - message received and understood 10.20 - what is your location? 10.21 - please telephone this location 10.8 - ready and in service (mainly for games, outlet and food and beverage locations, to be reported prior to opening to make sure security didnt let guests into merchandise areas until a cast member was attending it.) 10.9 - please repeat last transmission 10.12 - guests can hear this radio, please be discrete 10.17 - a request for coins and change - food and beverage, retail and games, and front gates would make this request of their supervisor, who would relay this request to cash control, who would prepare the change required, and despatch with security or a team of supervisors. 10.22 - Disregard last transmission 10.23 - Standby 10.33 - Alarm Sounding - generally not used, except by security at night 10.53 - Person down - mainly used by security, and meant anything from illness, heatstroke etc to serious injury there was also an 11 code - 11.71 which indicated a fire or fire alarm in the area Then there were the codes which were used early in the park's life, but were later discarded. Code 1 Do so at your convenience. Code 2 Urgent. Code 4 No further assistance is needed. Code 6 Responding from a long distance. (eg, if the person was in HBL, and was needed in Goldrush) Code 7 meant that the person was going to lunch, and their usual radio calls etc should be directed to a different person, which was usually either transmitted in the same message, or prearranged on a list in security. Security also had the following codes Code 3 Emergency/lights and siren. Code 10 Bomb threat Attractions had their own codes, which were reported to Ride Supervisors and Security Six-One-Alpha - the ride is in normal operation - used mainly at the start of the day, but also after the ride has recovered from a downtime mid-operation, or during a ride-rotation Six-One-Bravo - somebody chucked.... basically a guest experiencing an illness on the ride that affected the operation of the ride itself. Six-One-Charlie - the ride is not operating due to mechanical failure. Six-One-Delta - the ride is not operating due to severe weather approachingaffecting the operation of the ride. OperationsRides frequently shortened these to just alpha-bravo-charlie and delta, and in my time at Wonderland, I only ever saw one instance where Delta went parkwide. We had a severe thunderstorm approaching, heaps of lighting, high winds, pouring, driving rain, and one after the other the calls came in from individual rides such as probe and beast that the operator was taking the ride down "Delta" due to winds. Not long after that the winds had gotten higher, and the storm came closer, and over the radio came a call from security to "Six-One-Delta all operating attractions immediately". Man that place was even more of a ghost town during that storm than I had ever seen it before... and thats saying something. Ok guys.. .come on - stop getting sidetracked, and lets get more info on WL - make this the definitive collection on all things WL....
  10. looks like Flea's period is due.... lol man i nearly wet myself when i read that. Im thinking "hang on, this isn't like liam.." before i clicked. lol. funny stuff man.
  11. hate to break it to you Dr Teeth, but Thunderbolt was ripped apart piece by piece. besides, it is a steel coaster, not a woodie. you put a wrecking ball or a bulldozer through that structure and you are gunna have a lot of wood flying every which way, not to mention a big a$$ mess when you're finished. Also, the structure, while capable of free standing, is held in place by two very large sets of support cables, concreted and anchored to the ground. if these were disconnected, without careful dismantling, the ride could possibly topple over onto people standing nearby. leave them connected and bulldoze it, and you're going to have 10 odd metre long cables whipping around in every direction. all in all not a good idea. I dont think they will bother to take out every bolt and nail, but rather remove segments small enough to be manhandled out of the way. most likely would be to remove all of the track rails, and then chainsaw it out, section by section, in manageable pieces that could be loaded, in an ORDERLY fashion onto a truck for dumping. Lets not forget the wood, however old, is treated with arsenic, and sending splinters flying off everywhere is not in the interests of health. No. the majority of the demolition will be done by removing it piece by piece.
  12. ausnrl - do a search in the dreamworld and the movieworld forums, and im sure you will find HEAPS of threads and posts giving you the information you are after.
  13. the demon track was more of a gloss wasn't it? but yes, how many steel rollercoasters, painted black have been torn down to be transported overseas recently? It seems a little strange, but i suppose a lot of the elements would be difficult to fit inside a shipping container, so i suppose its possible...
  14. i dont believe Jamberoo has the local population to substantiate any expansion of that scale. Having said that, running along the theme of if you build it they will come, i'd be interested to see jamberoo throw in a mega coaster that runs down the same mountain the toboggans run on... they do have the land, its just a matter of whether the area could sustain a park any larger than it is now...
  15. i took one look at this thread, and thought it must have been revived from months ago... NOPE! its ANOTHER new thread on which is better.... come on guys... throw some originality in the gene pool... rather than debating the same topics over and over again. Ive been watching the dreamworld forum since new years eve, marvelling at the fact that nobody had posted in days, which was hilariously funny for me, being that the DW forum is usually the busiest forum on the site... and the first post to come back to dreamworld is this sorry excuse for a "new thread"
  16. Richard has just posted an image gallery that might better explain it, although the image that you guys would be interested in is a little obscure - http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/sh...read.php?t=1505 View the Gallery HERE: http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/gallery.php?gid=130
  17. Hey Rich, was this a formal "you may come in and take photos" shoot or a sneaky over the fence style shoot? Im curious to know whether you have any photos from INSIDE the warehouse area where the laser light show happens.... i'd like to see that in daylight...
  18. Zordy, I agree with you but i think goulburn is a bit tooooooo far. Possible Theme Park sites within the Sydney basin could include: DuralCastle Hill Areas - lord knows they need a better public transport system out there the Hawkesbury - Clarendon show grounds, the potential RAAF base closure (a rumor, but possible) would leave a gaping hole in the hawkesbury's economy, as well as its land. The Cumberland Plains - ADI site - yes, there are huge protests about it, but would the resident's action group prefer a residential metropolis, or a theme park where huge areas of bushland could be preserved? Mulgoa, Campbelltown, Holsworthy, Blacktown, the new proposed housing development in bringelly... these are just some of the areas WITHIN the sydney basin that have the room, and the need for a large enterprise such as a theme park, without needing to build RIGHT on the beach, or 2 hours drive from the southern suburbs.... OR the northern ones for that matter...
  19. when information is posted on this site, i watch for descrepancies, or coincidences. i've seen way too many people BS their way into starting a rumor. While for the most part Kenny's information is reliable, its generally about dreamworld, not movie world. I spotted a pure coincidence, from a source who usually provides information about a DIFFERENT park, and I questioned it. When he reposted, I found a further descrepancy, so i questioned it further. Kenny is no Shifty, but thats how it sounded to me. i questioned it... simple.
  20. gee... now i see why Bussy loves riling people up so much... hehehe. Bren - i agree the visitation is higher in the central and eastern areas of sydney. So what do we do.... take an area already choking on its capacity for tourism (look at bondi on a hot day and find me a bit of sand to spread a towel on), and increase the draw card for it by adding another park, or pick an area that has a lower visitation rate, and increase its visitation by adding a commercially viable ATTRACTION... now thats not just "add a theme park" but an attraction - park, accomodation, water park, animal attraction, something unique to be a big draw card in itself... now this will - a) decrease the jobless rate in an area with a higher rate than the eastern suburbs promote tourism for cities and towns in the west who are starving for tourism c) lift the entire area, cosmetically d) release pressure on the other tourism hotspots around sydney e) promote industry in the area to support the attraction, thereby further decreasing the jobless rate f) promote residential construction in the area for the workers of the attraction, and the industrial area g) promote further business, in the guise of builders and labourers to build the residential properties h) promote commercial development - shopping centres, movie theatres and other smaller drawcards to the area, for the residents who live in the area, who work at the factories and the "attraction" and build the houses and work and live and play... i mean seriously... why choke an already overpopulated tourist destination when with a little brains and a few hours on Sim City, you can realise that building in an area that doesnt have the competition of other tourist hotspots, will mean YOU are why they come, YOU are why they stay, and nobody else is there to compete with you...
  21. some very good points Rich, as always, and it picks a few good points from both sides of the conversation. on a side note, i have a lot more respect for you now that i have seen your photos (thanks to rod). although i knew you were at uni, i somehow pictured you a lot older.... in the original plans for wonderland, the extra land was for a resort, golf course, separate water park, separate wildlife park etc, however, a few local businesses including rooty hill RSL for one screamed it would kill their local business.... about the same way that nepean square screamed about penrith plaza when lend lease moved in, and hoyts screamed when panthers wanted to put in a multiplex cinema. so blacktown CC vetoed wonderland's original plans, which is why the beach was squeezed in behind the beast next to the road, and the wildlife park was jointed onto the park, which required the relocation of some attractions to accomodate it. Original planning for wonderland would have seen it become a somewhat less impressive version of the magic kingdom, in the sense that it would have been an attraction and accomodation facility in its own right. but the locals didnt want this to happen... so it didnt... and now the park is closed. oh well.
  22. Well obviously some of the members on here have trouble understanding what is written and choose to read between the lines and interprate and opinion that just doesnt exist. The following points need to be made: I am not from Eastern Sydney, i am from the South Coast. oh good - a liberal and a hick. Besides i never said you were from eastern sydney... just that you wanted to built there. Yes I am a Liberal Supporter but that does not mean I hate Western Sydney, nor did i say i did. I simply said that I didnt think it was a good place for a theme park. I never said you hated western sydney, but as you've said there, you think its a bad tourist destination I commented that if you COULD build one at Bondi, it would work. I then went onto say that it wasnt feasable because of the high density residential buildings that are already there. Now, lets face facts..... People visit Bondi, who visits Western Sydney??? People visit Kings Cross too, but i don't think its a suitable place for a thriving tourism metropolis. Ask an asian tourist if they know Bondi? Ask and Asian tourist if they know Western Sydney? yes, you're right. they'd probably think western sydney was olympic park. Wait a minute... ask an asian tourist if they know the Blue Mountains, Three Sisters, Jenolan Caves The fact is that whilst we have to cater to domestic, we also have to cater to international. Domestic alone will not sustain a theme park. I never said this wasn't so. Wonderland thrived on the asian tourist market, most of which would stop off at "western sydney" on their way to the mountains. Some of you people on here need to pull your head out of the preverbial and start living in the real world. When Mr. J Howard does, I will. Have any of you ever heard of a business? Do you understand what is needed to make it viable? Yes. I run one. If you think wonderland is such a great idea, then where are the fully costed business proposals? Of cause not because at the end of the day, half of you want a dream and are not willing to face reality. Fully costed business proposals were done in 1982 - 1983 the park was viable then and would still be viable now. It is simply that the corporation that owned it got greedy, didnt want to own a theme park when it could sell the land and make many more millions than they paid for it. I came on here to post to offer some support for what i thought was the most realistic approach. Just because someone offers something to which is different to your opinion, it does not mean they are attacking you. I never said you were attacking me, or us. But i seriously feel that your idea was a little biased towards a common misconception. that misconception is that nobody who travels to australia wants to go anywhere west of Darling Harbour. I've worked in tourism, hospitality and retail since I left school, from the beaches to the mountains and beyond. and what you're saying is a crock. You guys seriously need to grow up. Ok and while im on this point, allow me to repeat something: Well obviously some of the members on here have trouble understanding what is written and choose to read between the lines and interprate and opinion that just doesnt exist. funny thing is, as i have just pointed out above, YOU didnt read what was written, and YOU chose to read between the lines. Hate to break it to you buster, but we're not all 15 year old theme park addicts stuck in front of a computer for entertainment.
  23. ok, so a new toy appears in the window of a shop in a childs fantasyland, two maintenance men happen to stop at that window, and then turns around and points towards a ride that cannot be seen for the building facade in the way. gotcha. wait a minute... now you say they look at the toy, then they walk away, then they point at lethal weapon (no mention of maverick this time), then they look back at the window (it must be a long way away - they walked away remember?) and keep talking..... Oh wow you've got me... let me guess - the new Movie World attraction will be called the CONTRADICTION?
  24. First of all, Walt Disney built his first theme park in a major "tourist destination type place" and he was sad at what became of the katella, Anaheim area because of Disneyland's placement, so as i recall, he bought a huge amount of land in florida, at the intersection of two major arterial roads, and built his magic kingdom. The magic kingdom BECAME a major tourist destination. bottom line is, if its worthwhile, and you build it, they will come. Wonderland, in the middle of western sydney, was a magnet to the locals for the first 7 odd years of its life. the biggest problem was it was too long between the introduction of new thrill rides to keep that magnet charged. So let me add this up - big liberal supporter, likes theme parks, thinks western sydney is a bad tourist destination, thinks one should be built in the eastern suburbs, and is willing to do a bit of lobbying to head honcho's in the political arena if we drop our wanting to save the wonderland site, and support his BUILD in BONDI idea..... sounds like a bunch of crap to me. as usual some political junkie out there to tell you he's there for you, while getting what he wants and screwing the opposition. dont get me wrong, i love the park too, but understand the lack of feasibility when it comes to reopening it now... i just found this guy's post to be a little off track to his own needs... back to the drawing board...
  25. the clock was real, it kept time, but the chimes itself were computer controlled
