  1. My point was simply that the park had added a lot of attractions (at various 'thrill' and 'appeal' levels), but had not done anything with their kids area, and was therefore long overdue.
  2. Interesting view, Ryno. It should be noted that the Driving School may be experienced by 'older' kids (ie: Adults who haven't grown up), and the attraction is squarely in the middle of the "WB Kids" Area... so perfectly appropriate. Whilst I'll join many others lamenting the loss of such a fantastic attraction such as LTRR - the facts are simply that the attraction was old and tired, and required extensive (and expensive) upgrading for the ride to continue. Rather than throw good money after bad without a guarantee that the toon ride would get any major extension to it's operating life, the park made a hard (but necessary) decision to remove it. Driving School, whilst it could have been a lot better with more money thrown at it (i'm thinking some nice theatrical lighting rather than the 'factory' lights it has would have been nice)... I have to say the park has done reasonably well with the limited budget. As for the Peter Brock DW situation, nobody has confirmed thats where the cars are going, although all indicators do point that way. DW haven't named brock, and brock haven't named dreamworld... so its all assumptions at this stage...albeit likely ones. As has previously been said regarding the brock rumor - we have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what part the brock experience may play in Dreamworld's new V8 Attraction - so you CANNOT say this attraction won't draw a crowd when you have NO IDEA what the attraction will be - and with that said - I beg to differ - that the Brock vehicles alone will pull considerable crowds from those who attend both the Ipswich 300 and the Gold Coast 600 - which in themselves draw tens of thousands of interstate and regional visitors to the area each and every year. You're right though - all the GC parks have recently been focussed on children's areas of late - theres a reason for that though... MW: Prior to driving school, the last major attraction to appeal to younger guests was scooby doo - and even then it came with a fairly restrictive height limit. Sylvester's Pounce and Bounce was a more recent addition, but hardly what one could call 'major'... and before that was RRRC - installed 15 years ago. In that time we've seen updates to Arkham, a new stunt show, superman Escape, Justice League, Green Lantern, and several 4d films. SW: Although their children's area has been repeatedly rebranded - Nickelodeon, Sesame Street, Cartoon Network... the attractions have very much remained the same for years. Sea World was LONG OVERDUE for a refresh to their standard children's offering - and in fact to the entire area. Other than the rebranding, the last major installation for kids was the 'treehouse thing' up near the waterpark which was quite a few years ago. They've also installed Jet Rescue and Storm as well as numerous animal exhibits. DW: DW kind of run 'two' kids areas - littlies (Wiggles), and older kids (Dreamworks). Dreamworks was introduced, along with a new 'thrill' ride and a complete refresh of the area, we've also seen Mick Doohan's MotoCoaster, Shockwave, Buzzsaw, ToTII and a complete Wipeout Overhaul since Wiggles World was first introduced. Wiggles are becoming "less relevant" as they've slowly phased out the original 4, and the ABC brands have stood long and are therefore a good investment to diversify the area, as well as the chance to install some 'littlies' attractions without having to try and tie them into the Wiggles brand. Wiggles World was introduced in 2005, so after 10 years, it was probably due for a refresh. WnW: other than the current 'WnW Jr' - the last kids upgrade to the park was so long ago I can't even remember, but the buccaneer theme of the area was there when I was a kid... the WnW Jr upgrade was long overdue as a place for younger kids to visit and enjoy - and given the technology, as well as the recent success of a similar installation at WnWS - it made perfect sense for it to happen then. Since the last kids upgrade, WnW have installed or upgraded over half the park. Having two young children yourself, appreciate that the parks all aim to cater for these agegroups, and recognise that there is only a certain amount of capital for them to spend each year. It is highly unlikely the parks are able to manage to afford both a complete revamp of their children's area, or the installation of a major children's attraction, along with the installation of a "medium intensity family ride or high intensity thrill ride of quality too".
  3. I don't believe I expressed any negative views over the proposal...
  4. Missed that one Brad - previously the park has had a solid timber hoarding, which was painted the same colour as the nearby conrete wall, and themed with the same embellishments that the wall had (which wasn't much - just a waist-high protrusion of a lighter colour) all done in cream and white. The fence is new, and therefore news.
  5. Let me check for you.... *spins wheel*
  6. To be honest, considering one of the biggest annual events on the GC calendar is the GC600, the tie-in works well and will attract a lot of V8SC fans to the park while they're there - it's really a no brainer. Hopefully they do make it more than just a viewing piece and theres actually an experience in there to work with that will keep people coming back... Also - considering there are discussions about the withdrawal of Ford from the competition, the 'Ford vs Holden Bogan' is not your average racegoer these days.
  7. i'd had the same thought re: photosharing sites linked in. I immediately remembered that you would always upload to the Parkz gallery - but I guess reanimated's point is that the principle of hotlinking remains: if your flickr account, or the site ever changes links, or is deactivated, all the images in the above TR will be dead - precisely what Richard wants to avoid. Perhaps once they're uploaded to Parkz, you could edit the post with a link to each respective gallery?
  8. slap the right decal on the window, put in a couch or two and call it whatever you want. It doesn't have to be a 'true to the set' reconstruction. Just call it that and be done with it!
  9. I have no interest in the series despite most of my in-laws falling over themselves to see it at the earliest opportunity. I'm aware of the basic concept of the books show, and of the explicit content shown, but frankly don't see what all the fuss is about, and have no interest to delve into it further... to the detail, basic or extreme doesn't help as I have no idea what it all means. I think the point to be made here is that the series itself is very polarising - "you either love it or you hate it" sorta thing. Sure they could make a great maze out of it (I don't watch much in the way or horror flicks, but can appreciate a well themed maze with the requisite 'scares' built in as much as the next person) - but your description of the story or theme means nothing to me.
  10. Yeah - i'm not really sure GOT is really appropriate. StingRay - Given Dreamworld have indicated a new attraction(s) for the V8s is coming this year, I think it's more likely to be DW involved...
  11. Limited number? hahahahaha come on - this is VRTP!
  12. OG - I don't think the 'exclusive upgrade to gold' was only meant for those who renewed before the cutoff - i think you'll find the phrasing in the original post was something along the lines of 'something is coming, but you should renew before X date to get the best price' My interpretation of what they've said is that the upgrade offer will be available to anyone holding a current pass, but that the renewal offer was clearly a better price than what would later be offered, so people who didn't take advantage of the renewal offer would end up paying more...
  13. VRTP do own the land surrounding PC behind the studios and WnW - it is used (among other things) for grazing areas for the AOS animals at present. There was a suggested proposal a while back to do something with the land, but i think at the moment they're focussing on other priorities. I also don't think it's feasible for them to expand in that direction, as WWF stands directly in the way. I agree Maverick and the western town area is underutilised. Whilst I haven't heard anything, it stands to reason that (unless GL is pulled) this is the next logical expansion for the park. What they do with it I have no idea - but it's the next piece of land within the park boundary that is currently unused and stands to reason it would be the next construction... not to mention the construction would have minimal impact on guests as it is totally separate to the rest of the in-park area.
  14. Why not? they had Batman Adventure - now Justice League AND Batwing at the front of the park, and had Gotham Burgers opposite Dirty Harry's...
  15. Yeah Brad's closer to the money with about half. I'd suggest there'd be a little maintenance bay behind the wall too. I've seen behind the wall so to speak, and it is used as storage for all things seasonal - christmas tree and decorations, floats etc. Sure they could do something with it attraction wise, but they need somewhere to store that kind of stuff out of the weather... they'd need to build another storage warehouse on site before they could do that... and let's remember that is within WB Kids - so whatever they put in there has to fit the theme...
  16. If there's any truth to that, i'd like to think we'd have heard something... outcome of investigation, or something like that. There hasn't been a whisper of anything... It's also a very large investment that they'd be losing... if it isn't the manufacturer's fault, i can't see them throwing it away... and I can't see the manufacturer giving up without a fight and at least TRYING to fix the issue... testing etc... before resolving that the only thing left is to rip it down... It may very well be the end result... but I don't think we've got a decision on it this quickly. Edit: Zanstabar - you echoed my thoughts. We're always very critical of new posters without credibility as there are many trolls out there... however we have had first-timers turn out to be incredible information sources... I'll treat this information with appropriate skepticism until confirmed through some of our usual sources... but i'll allow for the possibility... it IS possible... however unlikely.
  17. Now see there's a good idea.... get a park CEO onto the board to hear from us on issues within the park... pity nobody's ever thought of that... #OHWAIT
  18. It can Jacob - the point we are discussing is an attraction that IS themed to a filmstory, where that filmstory isn't as current as it probably should be to warrant a ride in a theme park. If you read everything in context, my statement as you've quoted above was responding to DjRappa who observed the many story tie-ins at Disneyland of 'outdated' films. What i'm saying is - if you're going to use a theme drawn from something that isn't current, it has got to be able to stand on it's own - sure it'll be awesome for people who know the story as they'll see little 'easter eggs' as they remember from the film or the book - but for those who don't know the prior story, they'll leave scratching their heads a little if they don't understand part of what just went on. By all means - go with a generic story that doesn't need prior knowledge, or use the theme you want to use but in that case you need to include the story in the ride or the queue so that people understand what story it is the attraction is trying to tell. Bottom line is I don't believe Movie World would be capable of pulling off such a feat - especially (as we're discussing) something like the classic Wizard of Oz tale - they simply don't have the budget to be able to pull off an immersive story of the land of Oz without leaving some people wondering what the hell it was all about. And yes - whilst there are modern adaptations - Oz the great and powerful, Wicked etc - which theme can WB use? The classic Judy Garland style is owned by WB and therefore would probably be accessible to VR, whereas the technicolour monstrosity that is Otg&p is a Disney property - which means they wouldn't be able to use the modern style that people are more familiar with. Wicked is currently being made into a film by Universal, so they have the film rights. Of course - it doesn't mean the park can't go with a more generic playscript version of the attraction - but then the benefits of recognisable imagery as most people know from the stage film version will be useless as they can't use that imagery.
  19. I'm pretty sure the park would take issue with that sort of footwear... Wear a thick heeled walking shoe or jogger, and get her some lifts to put inside it...
  20. *spins wheel* Optional upgrade for $50, including 'fastpass'
  21. Andrewh - i think he's talking to you...
  22. Stick it on eBay... find out soon enough.
