Well done - you've replied to a thread that is more than 5 years old, to members who aren't even active anymore, to say the same thing you said in another thread almost the same day. Nice bump! #thumbsup -

re: the Goldie the Clown announcement - and 'leaking' - if the people who 'leaked' it are not employees of the park, and they found out - they have every right to post whatever the hell they want, unless the person who told them asked them to keep it in confidence. Another 'theme park' "website" contacting them and asking them to take it down, without any publicly known affiliation with the park is just ridiculous. If the park management, or Goldie asked them to take it down, then sure... but it's not like the impending announcement of a new ride, or a multimillion dollar show... it's a long running street performer who has had a good solid 20 year run at it, and the park has decided to go in another direction (although the theme of their current direction doesn't appeal to me). As an aside - I have no affiliations with any parks, or 'theme park "websites" except parkz. I think it's great that all those 'facebook' "websites" keep on top of things - constantly in touch with the fan base and with enough spare time to visit the park constantly - real-time information is the one thing Parkz hasn't been able to offer - mainly because the majority of those involved have day jobs - so it's good to 'fill that gap' - I just wish you guys on opposite sides of the fence would stop your back biting at each other - striving to one-up the other guy. Keep the personal stuff out of your public realm - and do it in PM... and to the other guy - if it comes in PM - keep it there. Don't post it publicly to your followers to say 'hey - look at what they said to me!' I predict that in 5-7 years, we'll see a dramatic improvement to the online presence of theme park enthusiasts in Australia - mainly because the site-owners will be able to vote by then. No offence intended... Just sayin. -
Well the gold renewal price is the only price - there is no 'new' or 'upgrade' price for gold
-
Math Fail. This years 'Gold' renewal price is only $89.99. Assuming FN and WC are $40 again this year, thats $80... leaving a price of just $9.99 for a year's entry to all three parks. For those of you wondering what the price was last year - i posted it in my last post - $139.99

Except you just jinxed it - and you know of course, that they'll now sink the marketing into the toilet like they usually do until the week it's due to open - at which point they'll then invite grant denyer and the sunrise crew... and everything will come out roses...- 778 replies

Yes - leave the technical discussion until we meet at Dirty Harry's in the afternoon... makes the discussion MUCH more interesting... lol. -
attached is the email offer sent to VIP Gold members. I get that the advertised offer when the gold was sold was to include FN and WC. I understand that early entry wasn't a 'sold' perk... but the 'express lane' at the ticket gates was - there is no mention of a change to the offer, just the option to 'renew your VIP Gold'... so my expectation is that ALL perks of the gold pass (acknowledging that early entry wasn't a 'perk' but part of a month-by-month offer) will be available. Is it possible that the month-by-month perks, including 50% off your second bucket of fairy floss, as well as early entry will continue? Yes. Do we have a right to cry about them not making it part of the offer? In hindsight - No. Should they have marketed the hell out of the available 'gold' perks, increased the price for new or upgrading passholders, and made a nice shiny profit? Yes. Should they offer the Gold as a renewal price cheaper than the public offer? Yes. Would this be a smart move, strategically? Yes. Are their marketing guys idiots? Possibly. I've just gone back through my email, and as luck would have it - here is the original offer from MyFun... and Early Entry WAS a sold perk in their advertising!

I'm pleased to say that overall, my experience 'at work' is by far better than it was last week - EVERYTHING loads exceptionally faster. I'm based in Brisbane, but our net access all runs through an interstate connection... so looks like a positive change!

DaptoFunlandGuy replied to mba2012's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yes, but don't forget that those roof extensions on scooby required extensive engineering and structural work to support that massive opening roof in case of fire... Plus - those fire-sensing eyes in the trains weren't cheap either. Both of which are getting on in years. Maybe they can incorporate both into the new ride - they've already developed that super top-secret technology in the Dippin Dots Laboratory...- 778 replies

My only issue is the discontinuation of 'new' Vip GOLD. I have numerous family and friends who only got 'normal' VIP last year, when we got gold. they then saw the benefits we got, and resolved to upgrade to gold this year... and it's not available... unless you're renewing? Honestly - it's the least they could do - offer a premium product to the public, and then show the rest why it was worth it in order to generate more interest in the premium product. They've now devalued that premium product by taking away some of the special incentives - and instead provided that 'premium' product out to more general passholders. I can only assume the reason for extending the 'early entry' to all passholders was because there wasn't an incentive to have 5 ride operators start 45 minutes earlier so that they could watch me go around and around 12 times... I'd have thought though that the better idea was to market that benefit to the market, to entice them to pay more money for a gold pass?

The statement on the site is entry to skypoint for 'worldpass' holders. My pass - bought in 2011 (2 years) is a platinum world pass... so based on that advertising, as a 'worldpass' holder - i also get unlimited free entry to skypoint. And if advised otherwise - they may be breaching consumer law.

I'm with westical... Doing a park trip, and skipping Disney... it's like eating and McDonald's - and not having fries with that. it's like going to a cinema - and not buying a grossly oversized, overpriced box of popcorn that ends up part on the seat, and part in the bin because it got cold. it's like being John West - and accepting less than the best. it's like Dreamworld installing a new ride - and not adding it to the list of the Big Thrill rides it's like walking down the street - and not watching where you're going. (also substitutable for driving) it's like flying international - and not getting your little packet of nuts it's like doing a theme park tour - and skipping anything Disney... (anyone else?)

Arkham Asylum: Shock Therapy (Lethal Weapon Retheme)

There's an Adopt A Special Kid (AASK) thread now? Or maybe you mean AAST (and aren't we just calling it AA now anyway??? - My name is Alex, and i'm an alc... nevermind.) -
Where is my incentive to renew, if they're going to take one of my Gold benefits away? If the park early opens to general VIP holders - thats going to eliminate the point in having one. Instead, they should offer the gold again and see how many people JUMP at the chance to upgrade from a standard. I spoke to numerous people in park who asked me why I was the only one on the ride for half an hour - i told them I had the gold pass - they wanted to know where to get it from. Sure - Gold pass holders weren't flooding the gates last year. Half of the 'gold' benefits weren't made public when they were available for sale - all we were told was that it had FN\WC... and some additional 'member specials' that normal VIPs didn't get. So let's take a look at the additional benefits that were given: Exclusive queue line Early Entry with exclusive access (let's face it - it's ERT) Instead of canning the pass's availability to people to want to upgrade, and only making it available to renewals: 1. offer it again - except this time - make ALL the benefits public. 2. keep the price the same, or even up it (knowing what i know now, i'd have paid closer to $200 than $100). 3. Profit

Can anyone draw conclusions to the phrase "containers of ride parts from italy"...? Does this tell us who the manufacturer is? Do they have any previous installations anywhere? Perhaps even a history of the styles (ie: single track, double rail, trackless)...- 778 replies

I'm voting track - this is definitely park of the ride track itself - look at the image that shows the cornering - theres no need to introduce that wide a space for turning for a pedestrian queue. I have no proof - but i'll put money on that being part of the actual ride-path.- 778 replies

But movieworld already have some late-night events - Hallowe'en Fright Nights and White Christmas. This already brings in massive (read: sellout or over-capacity) crowds that throng to the park, and all they need to do is have some smoke \ snow machines, and some fancy outdoor coloured lights. I've said before on these boards i'd like to see the parks (movie world especially) put on more 'seasonally themed' night shows. I can't recall them all and can't search for them at work - but why not 'valentines' for february, 'christmas in july' (obviously - for july) - the Christmas in July one is easy anyway - the 'christmas' stuff just gets rolled out again. I'd like to see one night, or one long weekend a month where they do late-opens. Having said that, the investment put into these night-time attractions is still a big one - but not the millions we're talking about for a viable watershow like WOC. For starters - MW doesn't really have anywhere they could do it - and before you mention the Wild West 'lake' (which would be a perfect setting in my opinion) - the residents won't allow for that to happen. WOC was expensive - but it had a usable, man-made lake to utilise that had already been built. This kind of attraction needs to go into a 'venue' that already exists - like the SW lake. For those who want to see a 'decent' watershow that isn't disney - check out 'songs of the sea' on Sentosa Island in Singapore (i know it's corny, but it's still a good show). That show draws the crowds in, and I daresay - wouldn't have half the budget that WOC does. The difference between the two is Disney puts the show on for guests already in park, whereas Songs of the Sea is a separate admission fee - and yet they still draw the crowds night after night.
-
I think the only place you're getting a 'world of colour' style attraction is at Sea World - and the resort has a 'budget' version in their waterpark already. You could install a system in the lake - but you'd have to position it carefully or cancel the boat show. WOC has fixtures installed in it that lower during the day and raise to the surface for showtime - this would be viable for SW, but expensive. The biggest hurdle you're trying to overcome in our parks for that experience is that they aren't open late enough for the show to have the impact that WOC does. I realise DW opens late for their Illuminate show - but it's not worth spending the money on the hardware if it's only going to be used sparingly... the parks would need to run the show every day for it to be worth the investment. Having said that - they could go with something like http://www.waltzingwaters.com/ - these guys do temporary\permanent installations, and can make a display to suit any style \ size \ budget. It'd be nice for any of our parks to do it, but without a frequent 'late night' trading option - none of them will get the value out of it.

I am still yet to experience audio on GL... with ride-count in double figures. I've checked the key switches, and they're always on - even had the operator check on it for me before despatch (who is also a member of these boards - formerly from Sydney)... always on, but never working. TBH I think theres a little glitch with the capacitors - like maybe not seated right to charge in station? I've had first rides of the day, last rides of the day, lunchtime rides - it just never seems to work. I'm not saying it doesn't \ hasn't worked at all - I believe those who say they've had it - but for the ride to be so 'hit and miss' that I could have so many rides without it - it's just poor form... imagine space mountain without sound... or even haunted mansion? Or more locally - bermuda and LTRR? without sound they're a very poor attraction. I'm not saying GL is poor without it - it's still a great little coaster - but for the much hyped \ excited introductions - for so many people yet to experience it means something has been 'cheaped out'... so figure out the problem, and fix it.

I heard that the dippin dots guy was stuck underneath one of the trains... he was pushed there by management when it was decided he was getting on in years.
