  1. Thanks for sharing the news. I for one sincerely appreciate it and won't use it as an excuse to throw offensive comments at you.
  2. With Australian Outback Spectacular right next door, they've already got everything they'd need for the above ideas, including the actors, horses, whips etc.
  3. Wouldn't the mountain be made of fibreglass rather than asbestos?
  4. To me it's not about the number of drops or zip-zogs. It's about the experience. I enjoy rides that take you into a story. A bit like a movie in that way. To me that's what theme parks are meant to be.
  5. Now that Bermuda Triangle has sadly gone, Wild West Falls is by far my favourite ride in the Gold Coast. Long may it continue!
  6. I've never had the pleasure of riding the mine ride, but I can tell be the look of it and the description in this thread that it was a proper theme park ride. Something Dreamworld is sorely lacking. I would love it if it reopened!
  7. So they need to charge a bit more for annual passes rather than cut out the things that make the parks what they should be.
  8. Regrettably there are a number of people who post in this forum who seem to have massive chips on their shoulders for some reason. Given that this site is about fun, it's hard to understand why. I suppose some people just enjoy an argument. Just block them like I have if they bother you.
  9. I just hope it's at least as good, and maybe even better than the current one.
  10. I have just come across this video by ThemeParkReview on youtube. Apparently Universal Studios Orlando was closing this ride, but I reckon it would make an absolutely perfect new addition to Sea World!
  11. One would think that if it was going to be anything really exciting, they wouldn't be keeping it secret. Quite the opposite! The fact that nothing in particular is being openly advertised at this stage leads me to think that it won't be anything very exciting at this stage. I hope I'm wrong about that though.
  12. I love the idea of having a Legoland discovery centre there (or actually it could be anywhere in the Gold Coast).
  13. The last thing I'd want to see at Sea World is a flat ride. In my opinion, they are for fairgrounds, not theme parks.
  14. One other thing I'd add to my comments above, is that the prices they're currently charging for annual passes are far too low. I'd much rather pay a lot more for my annual pass, but know that everything is included and there's absolutely no extra charges like locker hire and fast track. Having said that, a modest fee for lockers is ok as there's only so many lockers and it would prevent lockers being taken by people who have actually left the park. $1 per hour as I detailed above. I believe the VIP passes should be valid from when you buy them for one year, which would avoid the big rush for everyone to buy them in July, as well as making it much fairer as currently you pay the same to get a VIP pass in May (valid for 1 month) as you do in July when it's valid for a year! I think sensible prices for an annual VIP pass would be something like below, and the extra cash could be used to reduce the extra charges I mentioned above, and to invest in new rides and park upgrades. To keep it simple, all prices should include special themed nights: Adult = $250 1st related child under 16 (when bought with an adult pass) = $200 2nd and subsequent related child under 16 = $150 Children under 5 = $70 each I believe these prices would still represent unbelievably good value!
  15. Having now (finally) found myself in a position where I can actually relocate to the Gold Coast (as soon as I find a decent job there), here are some of the main things I'd love to see: SEA WORLD: - Bring the monorail back up to the standard it was at 5 years ago, with minimum of 2 trains running at all times, and 3 when it's busy, and with audio playing inside the cabins. - Replace the chairlifts with new, modern ones which don't have to stop half way along, and which would therefore result in much less queuing and less downtime. - Build a major new dark ride where Sea Viper was, and give it a sea-related, fully immersive theme, along the lines of what Bermuda Triangle was, but better! MOVIE WORLD: - Upgrade Roxy Theatre into a 7D cinema. - Re-work the new Hollywood Stunt Driver show, to make the story and themeing make more sense. If they can't do that, just bring back the original version of the show. WET & WILD: - Upgrade main pathways to make them comfortable to walk on in hot weather. Either by adding shade over them, or resurfacing them with something that doesn't get so hot. - Change the lockers as follows. Instead of having to go to one of the shops, wait for ages for people in front of you, then pay $10 for a wristband regardless how long you will be there, have credit card paywave-type scanners at each bank of lockers. You simply wave your card over it, and it prints out a wristband. You can re-enter your locker as many times as you want, and are not charged until you end your locker hire. $1 per hour or part thereof seems more reasonable to me. Maximum charge of say $50 as a penalty for anyone who doesn't end their locker hire by one hour after closing time (and of course the contents would be removed to lost property). DREAMWORLD / WHITEWATER WORLD (I haven't been often enough to have a strong opinion, except that most of the rides look like they belong in fairgrounds not theme parks. They desperately need more actual theme park rides, with proper themeing. ALL THE PARKS: - Scrap fast track tickets - Implement Q4U or a similar virtual queueing system, but for everyone and at no additional charge. That way, instead of wasting half their day in queues, everyone can spend a lot more time actually on rides! - In summer, and during school holidays, open all parks till at least 6pm. - Invest in much better quality food options at all parks, probably best achieved by awarding the job to suitably qualified tenderers.
  16. I can't get excited about a bit of grass, and really hope that's very temporary while they plan a proper replacement ride (and I don't mean a flat ride or anything basic). I'm feeling much more positive about the future of Sea World than some people on this forum seem to be, and I'm really looking forward to seeing their plans.
  17. I completely agree BigKev. For all the hype that surrounded the Storm coaster at Sea World, that's basically all it is (just a coaster). The ride experience is pretty pathetic compared to what it replaced. It's not an issue of lack of funds, because a lot of money was spend on Storm. I can only assume the people making decisions about new rides don't really appreciate what a theme park is all about. If so that is a big concern for me.
  18. Can't wait to see these changes, in just over a week!
  19. Please take no notice of those who have posted insults. Unfortunately there are quite a few of them on this site which seriously puts me off posting more often. There is a facility to block certain users comments from being visible to you though, which I have done and would suggest you may want to consider doing. I think you made a perfectly reasonable observation and I agree that, on the face of it, it does seem like a lot of wasted space. The first time I went to Movie World (1988) there was a tour (which as far as I know was included in the price of entry / pass) where you could go in most of these buildings. Each one gave an insiders glimpse into how movies are made, and it was the most central part of the Movie World experiene in my opinion. For example, in the sound stage building you got to see how sound effects are made and processed in movies. I don't know why these tours were stopped and I definitely think they should be reopened. Failing that, I would love it if at least one of them was opened for the above purpose, and at least one other was opened as a new movie-themed dark ride. I'm really looking forward to seeing inside one or two of these buildings during the Fright Night event this October. Should be great fun! It is also great to know that real movies are made there too of course! Richard, I started to read this and thought it would be referring to the issue of members insulting other members. Surely that is a far more important issue than correct spelling and punctuation, isn't it?
  20. Hmm. Not impressive as a replacement for LTRR, but I do like how they've made it a sort of mini version of Movie World itself. For little kids I imagine that would be good fun.
  21. This was a horrific incident, and we should probably wait until the investigation is complete before making too many judgements about what or who was to blame. However it is without doubt that these rides are inevitably operated by people who are in short-term, low paid jobs. The quality of such employees varies but given the above, coupled with the long hours they are often expected to work, and what is often boring repetitive work in noisy and crowded conditions, it's not all that surprising if they don't always do their job perfectly. Whilst the short term nature of these jobs is just part of the deal with Royal Shows, I do think more could be done in terms of better pay and conditions, and more in-depth mandatory training and more supervision by senior qualified people. In some cases, the safety of ride restraints could be improved too, by having sensors built into each restraint so that the ride cannot operate until all the restraints are secure. A minute silence was held the following night in the main arena before the fireworks display, which I thought was a very nice touch.
