  1. @MickeyD Oh good, so I'm not going completely crazy! Thanks for the info, I was so sure it was Dreamworld, glad to get some confirmation. If it was 92/93 I'm surprised I even remember as I would have only been 4 or 5 years old, must have made an impression on me. I do recall it being after the Matterhorn too the more I think back, so in the area Tiger Island is now checks out too.
  2. Huh. I never considered it could have been at a different park, but that actually makes a lot of sense. Now I feel silly about making a whole post about it, but thanks that's probably it.
  3. I can't remember if I dreamed it or imagined it but I'm having trouble finding information about a live pirate show that was hosted at Dreamworld in (I think) the 90's? I'm 100% sure it wasn't the 2007 Pirates of the Pacific show because it wasn't indoors/under a tent and I would have been 20 in 2007 and I remember I was a lot younger when I saw this pirate show. It had a grandstand of seats in front of a mock up wooden pirate ship and had actors performing all sorts of shenanigans on and around the boat. It didn't come up on the Dreamworld wiki of former attractions so I figured I'd ask the endlessly knowledgable folks here to confirm or deny my memories.
  4. Maybe the coaster track has been here the whole time! Invisible track for Wonder Woman coaster confirmed!
  5. The way the footers are all on one side (presumably) of the track make it look like it'd be an inclined loop. Just a guess though as I admit I know little about coaster footings, just something that occurred to me.
  6. Are there any Scottish superheroes? Loch Ness coaster confirmed.
  7. Being out in the weather vs having water on a track for 8+ hours a day is a bit different. I remember when the mist was on that part of the track was always slick with water, made me worry the train was going to slip off (that's before I really understood how coaster trains worked).
  8. I know that feeling man, I'm a retail worker too.
  9. Wonder if it would be possible/practical for DW to install like a two-way radio system on each gondola, so in the event something like this DOES happen (and it will happen again) they are able to calmly communicate with the riders to let them know its just routine. It doesn't matter if they had a sign or multiple signs saying 'ride may experience intermittent issues which are for your safety' or if the attendant said so before each ride because a.) most people don't read/listen to those types of things and b.) even if it is exactly routine nothing will placate like actually being able to hear someone reassure you.
  10. I don't disagree there's much to love about our parks, Superman, WWF and Giant Drop are among my Top 5 rides of all time in this country. But they are rides that are in the case of the latter two are nearly 20 years old (scary right?)! It's absurd that we're making excuses when nearly two decades have passed and we've got so little to show for it. The Australian parks had their golden age and we've been wallowing in mediocrity since, here's hoping whatever Movie World builds can lead to a new renaissance, but I'm not holding my breath.
  11. If it's good enough for the President of the United States it's good enough for people on a Theme Park forum.
  12. I was thinking parks like Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens (Tampa or Williamsburg), and various Six Flags parks. Would never compare our parks to any Disney or Universal parks.
  13. It does kind of seem like the companies running Australian theme parks aren't as on the ball when it comes to being on trend or delivering the volume of thrills that US parks seem to offer by comparison. I don't know what our park attendance figures are compared to some of the larger parks over there but I would say these companies seem to know how to build a better park than Village or Ardent/Main Event. I don't want to knock them, I couldn't imagine the logistics behind running a theme park let alone remaining relevant, and I am appreciative for what we have, but sometimes it just seems like they could be so much better with only a few changes (albeit expensive ones).
  14. I find both The Claw and Wipeout to be incredibly fun rides in very different ways that almost make them difficult to chose between. However riding The Claw has made me nauseous after 3+ goes in a row, whereas Wipeout never has so I'll vote for Wipeout.
  15. It must be so frustrating for them to have to deal with the ridiculous media, it'd be like going to your job doing it exactly as you're supposed to and then getting yelled at anyway... oh wait that's retail life anyway.
  16. Maybe it's nostalgia clouding my memories or maybe it's just I don't have any other wooden roller coasters to compare it to sadly as it and it's little cousin are the only wooden roller coasters I've ever been on.
  17. Diverting back to the topic of car parks for a second, don't know if anyone else has brought this up but why don't theme parks have multi-story car parks like shopping centres do? Seems like it'd free up a lot of space. Is it because they don't want views of their park impeded by concrete structures? If that's the case surely they could put them to the side of the park and use the empty space in front for more park space. Or even better, just go underground with multi-story car parks, that way it still looks the same up top but with plenty more parking below. Plus imagine how nice and cool your car would be if it's been out of the sun all day.
  18. If we're talking no longer existing coasters now Bush Beast would be close to the top of my list. It sucks we don't have any high quality wooden roller coasters in this country anymore.
  19. Movie World doesn't have the rights to the Shrek franchise anymore does it? With that swamp it could have been prime tie in theming for a Shrek roller coaster.
  20. I guess I forget that while a B&M coaster in the US can be bought for around 20 mil we're at the mercy of exchange rates and a very long boat ride for the track pieces. Who knows! Maybe the one benefit of the incoming Trump presidency will be a crash of their economy and we can get some B&M on the cheap!
  21. Forty million?! For that amount they could've gotten a B&M (probably). I doubt this thing is going to cost that much. But then again, somehow that Storm Coaster cost what, like 20 million? So maybe/anything's possible?
  22. Sorry if this is a stupid question but why do some people take capacity into account when judging a coaster? I thought the experience of the ride (excitement/g-forces/comfort) would be the only thing of importance? I don't detract points from a movie based on how long I had to wait in queue before seeing it.
  23. I personally prefer Escape from Madagascar, I think even if it's not as 'thrilling' as Road Runner, a suspended/inverted kiddie coaster is a bit more unique. And while it may be sacrilegious to say, the theming of Road Runner doesn't add to the experience for that particular coaster in my opinion. It's very nice, but it doesn't give the ride any extra points.
