  1. Realistically this is the best option. There’s no reason Mad Max shouldn’t be at movie world, it’s a perfect IP for village to integrate and something they already own. But there’s no logical fit in the park. You could maybe get away with having it next to West but the best option is to have it take up that arena on Main Street. You don’t even need a current ip - Waterworld is a movie that came out in the mid 90’s that the vast majority of people who go to watch the show at universal have probably never heard of let alone watched (throw backdraft in there too when it was open) I’ve never personally watched stunt driver 2 but I did watch police academy and the original stunt driver and thought it was memorable. Based on what I’ve read it seems the stunt show is in desperate need of change. Shows have their place in parks, they disperse crowds around, and having a good one can determine the difference between massive lines and not so massive lines (Waterworld or Lion King at Disney come to mind). Gut everything after all the major projects are done and while lantern & doomsday are limping, and build a mad max show, have some explosions, falling stunts (which mad max lends itself well to) and make it memorable.
  2. I think it’s more likely that Claw is replaced with something new within 10 years. It’s almost 20 years old and doesn’t have the prestige factor to justify spending money at an upgrade like that (see giant drop), i would imagine that kind of upgrade costs near the amount of a new flat
  3. Valid point but having superman go down in March is not a cause of those constraints it’s an effect. It’s an aging ride it needs more downtime but at the same time it needs to be up at every peak, so it’s hard to really make a choice. It doesn’t have to be this way but village have mucked around at movie world and it’s set them back a fair amount of years. Ideally village would have had a replacement for Arkham online by now to spread around the crowds, but they didn’t do that, they left it standing for 3 years with no activity to speak of. They knew this ride was going to get replaced, it was always time limited after what happened to corkscrew, but there never seemed to be a solid plan. Blame Covid and Atlantis fair enough but a replacement should have been locked in during 2019 realistically. Moreover scooby’s renovation seems to me like a very last minute thing - they realised that the ride in its current condition was unsafe and went “oh shit need some new track and trains and brakes” and ordered them hastily, which are yet to arrive at the park and probably aren’t coming for a while because Mack’s backlog is massive. Then you add poor ride decisions - for one, buying a twin hammer from Intamin whose only other install operated for 10 years and went defunct before you bought it is not a wise choice. Then making s&s put the 4 across trains on lantern - el locos operate reliably throughout the world with the normal trains, while movie world’s one comes within a sliver of killing people and is down constantly. While we’re there, packing up and moving Surfrider, thinking it was going to be a quick fix solution to those aforementioned capacity woes caused by poor planning, and fucking up at the install is just another thing on a long list of stuff that’s gone wrong.
  4. Things get old therefore they need more time to be worked on. who knew?
  5. At this rate it’s probably not going to open at all, it looks like nothing has been done on the ride so far. You’ve got 4-5 months left of it tops before it gets moved
  6. Doesn't Taipan's figure exceed Jungle Rush's cost too or was the koala research grant they used added to the budget statistic in the end?
  7. If the Indiana Jones rides at Disney are anything to go by id say the theming improves with a bit of weathering too. An ancient temple facade with slightly overgrown vegetation looks even better than when new
  8. Do you have basic reading comprehension? It’s quite the opposite these days They’re clearly going for something similar to the Indy rides at Disney with jungle rush and Rivertown more generally. That said the ride doesn’t look very tall (given the turntable has been testing in the Netherlands) so you don’t need a tall show building to enclose everything. The one in Japan is outstanding so I’m quite excited to see Dreamworld having a crack at the adventure theme
  9. Nah the restraints on those rides are awful if you’re either tall or fat or both. I’ve been on Sledgehammer and even if you’re below the max height limit the restraints dig into your shoulders and have an enormous amount of clearance between the restraint and the seat because of their design. I almost didn’t feel safe on my ride. Goliath on the other hand is far more comfortable. Not to mention the height restriction for zamperla models are far higher. You’d be looking at yet another 140cm ride for a zamperla model (its 132 at Luna park but would probably go up to 140 on the coast). Whereas claw and Goliath are at 120, far more accommodating for different types of guests and body sizes because of the lap bar it uses
  10. I’m pretty sure that land in question is not being used by the park it’s all allocated to the studios but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. And even if it is, if you were to put a coaster in there (which they will need in 6-8 years time) you’d have to either pull down the building, or re use it as a queue/station or extend it out for something indoors (both requiring major alterations) If you read what I said I already nominated a use of that space so what you’re saying is very confusing.
  11. How is doomsday not on its last legs? It is barely open, and when it is, it runs at a third of its power because if it doesn't it shits itself. Once flash & wizard of oz open and scooby re opens that thing is for sure gone, with the strip down and repaint deadline quickly approaching. Only reason they are keeping it around now is to keep the ride count up while other things around the park are being built or renovated. Lantern is time limited as well. I think it lasts a little longer than 3-5 years, I'd say it goes either shortly before or shortly after the next major gets built in 6-7 years time. As for superman I think village will be looking very closely at how the two LSM conversions go, if they are reliable i think it's more likely it gets that revamp over being removed altogether. As for the showcase building the park has no room to expand so at the end of the day they'll use whatever space is available. The land doomsday & showcase occupy lend themselves well to a major wild west coaster to complement West, and any non superhero ride is always a plus. Lantern's plot is too small as it stands and doesn't allow for much. As for the other attractions you mention: Walkthrough? The old intencity building exists (you know where there used to be one) Dark ride? Justice league (and the junior driving school building exists too), you can arguably fit scooby in this category while you're there. Show/theatre? Stunt driver and roxy already fill that need
  12. I love the idea of a 4d free spin in Australia but the likelihood that village buys something from s&s again is pretty much zero Obviously doomsday is on its last legs and we don’t know how long showcase will be open for. I’d say any green lantern replacement uses that combined plot of land as it’s quite a significant space for a coaster. There’s more than adequate space at green lantern for a flat ride there though, you could easily plop vortex or something else there down the track
  13. Warner bros owns the trademark for movie world itself so yep so I’d say it’s under a similar arrangement in this case, the categories it is filed in seem to match up as well
  14. Trademark filings have been made for the names of the WOO coasters. Kansas Twister for the family boomerangs and Flight of the Wicked Witch for the suspended family coaster presumably https://search.ipaustralia.gov.au/trademarks/search/view/2411823?s=066cfa98-d7a1-4526-a4ee-6f069d7b2f33&p=2 https://search.ipaustralia.gov.au/trademarks/search/view/2411822?s=066cfa98-d7a1-4526-a4ee-6f069d7b2f33&p=2
  15. I think it’s a bit different. Leviathan’s needs are very different to anything else Village has so they’ll stagger it out throughout the year to look after the wood throughout the year as opposed to 2 months in a nondescript off peak period. Also Sea World’s rides are much younger on average than Movie World. Most of the rides going down for 2 months are old (or getting repainted in the case of Rivals)
  16. Well to be fair being a ride op is not exactly the most well paid job and quite a few people wouldn't really care about the job, which is completely understandable given the pay and the fact most would be doing it during uni to earn cash before moving onto greener pastures. Having idiot guests definitely exacerbates the problem but I digress, in those kinds of jobs you need to maximise morale where possible, have the right kinds of managers who don't treat the joint as some sort of a power trip, and create room for staff to build relationships with one another. I used to work for a business in the same industry as the parks, was paid quite poorly and had to deal with entitled guests and it burned me out from time to time.
  17. Time for a strip down and repaint? I mean it’s hit that 10 year mark I’m pretty sure, could explain the length
  18. Like re using Lethal Weapon Chinatown alley? Most logical solution imo but it seems to be wishful thinking based on concept art. Before someone goes on about F&B needing the space for temporary storage there’s a many other areas to put these things that doesn’t necessitate using an area that was designed to be public access
  19. To be fair they do have that sign printing machine they’ve made some good use out of
  20. As mentioned by others I’d say most of the people visiting at this time of year have pre bought tickets prior to going up north. So they need to go within a span of usually a few days they don’t have unlimited time to visit the parks. Either way the problem is very manageable. It’s not by letting less people in but by improving what you do day to day to lower wait times. I like how in your post you used those quotes and missed this one: What excuses are there for these? There are about 6 months in the year village could use to complete train rebuilds and get them online for peak time. Back in the day both major coasters would run a 2 train service from Boxing Day to early feb, and allowed guests to do their own seatbelts rather having the 2 station attendants doing a whole train full of them. You’d figure if 2 of your majors were down at the busiest time of the year (with another being replaced) managers would figure out a way to churn through people an hour on each ride efficiently. That means training their staff based on how Universal does it, or by creating a culture that values efficiency.
  21. There's bigger fish to fry at the park. Dreamworld only have so much money in the budget, I'd rather that money go towards a renovation of Motocoaster rather than re-opening a ride that's got 6 months left at most before it gets moved.
  22. If that’s true then what is the point of making the effort to re open it then if it’s all going to get demo’d in a few months? Reckon we might see vintage cars closed until Rivertown opens
  23. As pointed out by other people waiting more than 2 hours for tower of terror was normal 10 years ago. Same goes for Superman before Rivals got built
  24. To be fair if scooby and green lantern was open the crowds would be much more dispersed. Everyone likes to rag on dreamworld for having a low ride count but at the moment down the road isn’t offering exactly a lot either, you have a major that’s going to be down until 2025 and another one that they struggle to keep open and isn’t open currently either. A giant line for doomsday is quite sad to look at really but that’s a consequence of poor planning. Would be just another summer school holidays day at movie world if both were open otherwise which is not good by any standard either. You can say “Oh village’s reputation will slide” and that’s a fair argument for locals but at the end of the day most visitors are interstate and will go to movie world anyway, or go to dreamworld as well. That’s why village can get away with this kind of stuff even if it means ripping people off, because they’re usually only visiting once a year at most.
  25. Gold Coaster is no longer listed as down on the website so potentially given both share the same grid
