  1. Isnt that specific section of the ride the one that's incomplete? Little bit of extra effects added (like maybe some projection mapping around the face which should brighten up the room slightly) would make that bit less scary. (for the record haven't been on it yet I'm operating off very limited glimpses of the switch track) Gonna say it would be the external sections. More people than you think are turned off by the thought of a ride going backwards - no one does Rivals backwards even when the experience was cheap. If West's backwards drop was exposed I'd guarantee that a lot less people would have been on it.
  2. Abyss is a good ride with the wrong restraints. If they had lap bars on it from the start there would be no headbanging. Also runs very rough when it’s hot but that’s a problem with every coaster known to man in Australia. Even rivals gets a rattle on a hot day.
  3. To add isn’t the rights to the film owned by Warner themselves anyway? Wouldn’t this be covered in the royalties/licensing deal Village already have with Warner for their brand name plus IP like DC, looney tunes, and scooby-doo or at most renegotiated to include Oz?
  4. Yeah thanks for the links I knew that I read somewhere that WOZ was initially quoted at a much smaller figure. Im going to go out on a limb and say they’ve combined the spend with Flash and the scooby renovation. Maybe that might make a bit more sense then but I still don’t think all of those things add up to $100m.
  5. They’ve spent money fairly recently redoing all the indoor seating areas in the park and retheming all the food vendors. I’d personally keep expectations very low. The last owners milked the park for all it was worth for a good decade and a half (longer than they wanted to tbf) before the rides got old and everything non heritage listed needed to be swapped out for new equipment ahead of a sale. If anything we’ll see the same cycle until the park gets another refresh in 15-20 years’ time. Haven’t watched Dream circus but from watching a few YouTube videos of it, it’s fair to say that the tech is part of an upgrade to the AV system and can be repurposed for other events they run in there. They’ve had gigs at the big top as recently as 6 months ago. These guys aren’t idiots they know the big top is a crucial component of their business and allows the rides section to run at a loss off peak.
  6. Bit of attention is putting it lightly. Havent been on West in years but a solid three quarters of the effects aren’t working in recent POV’s. I’d have a hard time finding anything that did work beyond the water spitting out of the bucket. It’s genuinely in a horrible state. It’s the same story as superman - I’m too tall to ride it now but when “The tremors are getting worse continue to metropolis station as quickly as you can” plays twice and the pre launch audio doesn’t play “Tunnel collapse is imminent 15 seconds to cave in” anymore (as noted in all recent POV’s), something’s up. Should have been given a bit more of a looking at when they installed the new boats I reckon.
  7. Have said this many times but Wet n wild really needs something like Tantrum at raging waters or even something like perfect storm at jambaroo (yes I know they have a tornado slide already but jamberoo have 2 and make it work). Doubt they’d have the room for either of those there especially when there might be 3 slides going in that spot (which I find pretty hard to believe given that aqualoop’s plot of land isn’t that big to begin with unless you expand out back towards where the top of aqua racer is)
  8. Big top has always been the cash cow for LPS and effectively bankrolls the park. It was making shitloads on concerts and events for years and even to this day it’s a quality venue for those things. Pretty sure events can be still booked there based on the website. Not sure if a $29 a head upcharge show is going to beat that but we will see. Sure it’s an innovative way to introduce new attractions when you h no longer have space to plop in flats from a showman for school holiday periods like what else could they do? Run a train on Big Dipper backwards for summer? I don’t think they’ve run both trains on that thing since the summer period it opened On another note the pub group that’s bought the park are probably seeing the park for what it is - a cash cow they can let run for 20 years in its relatively new state with minimal capex. Its a shame because the only thing I’d say the park needs is the new gen Intamin hot racer train for Big Dipper which might be the silver bullet to how rough it is
  9. I’m guessing this is a queue railing? Every railing in a queue line in any park known to man has had people’s fingernails scratch them. This is not new.
  10. To play devils advocate, Rebel Coaster doesn’t have any means of storing loose articles. To be fair it’s logistically difficult given there’s separate load and unload stations and you’d need staff members doing grouping & offering tubs for loose items in the queue, then taking it over to the unload stations. Found this to be pretty strange considering loose articles can hit other riders, not just people on the ground. I was holding onto my shit in my pockets for dear life when I went on it earlier this year. On the second part I’m not a lawyer but how has chant’s breached their duty of care when there’s big ass “restricted area do not enter” signs all across the coaster envelope. The woman is not illiterate and can surely be capable of reading that before jumping the fence.
  11. I presume these 2 names that were recently trademarked by village are related to whatever replaces aqualoop
  12. I have never watched the movie but $100m has been spent and they couldn’t get a CG animation on a screen remaking this where the mural is currently? How are they doing things worse than 2 years ago?
  13. This is an example of what a good boss looks like. Some of us might have worked jobs where your crappy manager/owner will do nothing and sit at his desk and not interact with anyone as opposed to acting in a front facing role towards customers when you can. Hopefully the reception of the two areas from general audiences after Boxing Day is similar to the observations on here and causes the tide to change. I mean not having aircon or fans in parts of queues for rides in Oz should do that by itself, if movie world doesn’t change that ASAP they are kidding themselves. It’s time Greg and his team’s efforts in turning dreamworld around get rewarded
  14. $100m and this doesn't exist. LOL. Are there safety videos or no? Now the real question is does the seatbelt thing exist on TNT or is it solely restricted to the coast (and whoever village's insurance company is)
  15. I reckon the $100m figure is a bit of a yarn. I can recall the project being marketed as $50m-$60m as recently as a few months ago. What’s the extra $40m been spent on since then? Surely the budget for the project hasn’t blown out that much. Do fans exist in the outdoor portions of the FOTWW queue (like the ones Rivals has)? I’d be shocked if they weren’t there given how harsh the QLD heat gets at this time of year
  16. Always thought food at our parks across the board was on the pricey side but $26 is not all that bad for a schnitty. Some pubs charge more for them than Dreamworld does
  17. Yeah this is what I thought. It looks like a screen with an accompanying animation should be in the place of that mural. It’s a shame that the standards have gone backwards from Leviathan while the budget has gotten bigger. This area had a lot of potential (and shows that in portions of the area) but it really needs to be finished, I’m not sure if there’s anything left to finish given how long this land has spent under construction when by comparison Rivertown was built at the last minute
  18. Oh boy that 2nd half of the wicked witch queue is awful. Station looks about as good as Rivals too, a mural in the station is a massive step backwards from what we got on Leviathan 2 years ago. There's no way $100m has been spent on 2 off the shelf rides with incomplete theming past the preshow and the start of the queues for the coasters (which I'll admit is pretty good). I thought the land was $60m a few months ago, why's the figure been almost doubled? $100m is approaching Universal/Disney territory As for rushing construction, this started its build much earlier than Dreamworld did with Rivertown. Even if there was stuff left to be added, they had the head start by a few months on a project of similar scope. You'd think it would be in a better state than this?
  19. You don’t see statues of Mickey and Minnie in spaceman costumes in Tomorrowland. Merchandise is OK but maybe a meet and greet a few times a day in Rivertown would have been a better “meet in the middle” option
  20. There is no universe where jungle rush runs 1 train in the immediate aftermath of it opening to the public. The lines would genuinely be madness and the last thing dreamworld wants is to spit in the face of its customers by making them wait more than 2 hours for its newest major when they are still trying to convince the public to return.
  21. I agree MDMC is in urgent need of change (preferably with all new trains that are more comfortable) and that should happen in the next year but another flat is needed down the track. A ride to fill the gap Wipeout left is still required to keep the ride count up and I’d prefer it be in Rivertown instead of more shit being crammed into ocean parade.
  22. $99 renewal isn’t that bad for the rate of investment. You’ll get King Claw in that span of time too, that isn’t going to take very long to build and will open September holidays at the latest (if not earlier) Annual passes at our smaller parks are more expensive so even if you bought a new pass it’s a pretty good deal. Cheaper than village and you get a year’s free access to objectively the best water park and the best run theme park on the coast. Not to mention the perks (don’t get any of that at village)
  23. Highly doubt there would be asbestos in the building, it was only built in 1996. Not many homes of that age seem to have it If they planned on removing it, it would have been gone a year ago when they were re-doing Dreamland. You could feasibly use it for an expansion flat in Rivertown if you wanted to down the track though.
  24. Yeah I’d say this is far enough in advance that they aren’t putting down Superman as being closed for longer. Which I think it will given the updated queue, a lot of work in addition to the usual work they do on it every year. Scooby going back online in June is plausible, maybe a couple of weeks later in time for the winter school holiday break. That said it’s been closed for long enough and it’s extremely hard to follow progress given all the work being done is indoors. It could realistically open at any school holiday break after that point whether that be July or September or in time for summer, with a few weeks heads up.
