  1. It’s a good thing then that Disney’s queue lines are more entertaining than some of our rides here
  2. You’re assuming the major market for TG is tourists. I’m of the belief they would be the minority market, it’s locals that will keep the $$$ ticking over and 90% of south east QLD are not in Surfers
  3. Wasn’t aware of Marks background at Merlin, but from what I can see (LinkedIn) it was as a commercial director for 2 merlin parks. Again, I’m not sure if that is the same skill set required for CEO of an international, multi-focused company - but hey, what do I know! The last 3 CEOs haven’t been all they were cracked up to be!
  4. You mean one of those places on the park map that you walk through and don’t see anyone...
  5. I know nothing of Marks credentials outside of AW & his current role, but from the outside I’d argue whilst he may be suited to the DW CEO role, the Ardent CEO role is much more multifaceted than running a theme park. It’s a whole different level. Mark may or may not have the experience and know how for just a role, I don’t know, but it seems people here are of the opinion if you can run a theme park you therefore can run a business that has a theme park arm to it, and that’s not the reality
  6. Naa.. they just get given an umbrella and have to make the cattle run and hope not to get hit. It’s more fun that way (for the people teeing off).
  7. I personally don’t think the marketing to DCR has been particularly great to start with, but you are looking at this from the wrong angle. TG is not in competition with MW & WnW. It’s a supplementary/complimentary attraction, just as AOS is. It isn’t fighting for the same Tourism dollars or competing in the same marketplace as the theme parks
  8. Gremlins was a dark ride in the current SDSC building. I think you are referring to the old studio tour *jinx*
  9. 1. The amount of land required just doesn’t exist in surfers paradise, and if it did would be hundreds of millions of dollars for the land alone 2. It’s not behind a theme park, it’s between 2 theme parks 3. How do you know what the marketing plans are 8 months out from opening?
  10. Most people in Australia rate it an eleven out of 10
  11. DREAMWORLD’S parent company Ardent has lost its second CEO in six months, with Simon Kelly resigning suddenly just days after the first anniversary of the tragedy on the Thunder River Rapids. Mr Kelly, who was also the group’s Managing Director, announced his resignation in a statement to the ASX this morning. Rest of the article here.. http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/business/dreamworlds-parent-company-ardent-leisure-ceo-simon-kelly-has-resigned-suddenly-after-a-year/news-story/f8cb2a40801e6a81c2fa1b055d810e86
  12. I don’t think you’ll ever solve the problem of a wet floor in the change rooms of a water park... so you have to be dry before you get changed? In which case, why get changed? Why not change, then go sit down and dry your feet before you put shoes on? It’s a little like going to the beach and complaining you don’t like having sand on your feet
  13. I don’t expect any large expenditure from MW for at least 3 years. We know we are getting a major attraction at SW in 2019, so I imagine 2018 will see only minor works across all parks... MW - would be nice to see HWSD finally run its last race and be replaced with a new experience. A new kids flat for WB Kids would be a nicer top off but not expected SW - improved food offerings would be nice. I think their options are poor, but that’s just me. WnW is Due, something, anything.
  14. I’ve had it happen from time to time. I’ve been stopped mid ride a few times for a couple mins while it ‘resets’ though the guns don’t score again after such an occurrance. I’ve also had times where I seem to arrive at the scenes earlier than I should (ie arrived at the screen and it was still at the end of what the last car should have seen before they left). It it was an unscheduled closure when I was there Monday at lunchtime, ride ops at the gate said it should reopen later but was having some technical issues - I didn’t stay long enough to see if it did reopen later or not
  15. I see it being targeted to corporate groups and parties/bucks more so than your pro or casual golfer. I can see a lot of people giving it a go as it is a lot different to Victoria Park or your standard driving range. I won’t rush to it, but I’ll definitely give it a whirl with some mates. It makes it another destination other than the pub for the spirts bar concept etc
  16. It would be pretty wicked if they did a re-enactment of the Gotham tree lighting from Batman Returns... maybe the gaps are to install the boxes to hold the bats ready for release....
  17. Don’t be ridiculous... only The Flash can phase through people...
  18. 7 mazes.. most people struggle to get through 4 without fast pass.. The Nun is basically the Conjuring again RE7 is an abomination of a movie (not unlike the previous 6). No need to immortalise that shit in a maze CITW doesn’t lend itself that well to a maze IMO... it’s basically Evil Dead which we had 3 years back IT and TWD I’m down for
  19. That’s statistically incorrect as today I’ve spoken to my parents in Sydney and my mate in China. They are not in, or on, the Gold Coast
  20. Ok.. so can someone fill me in on what I have missed.. why is MW ridiculously busy today?? Came down with my son for a quiet Monday in the park... nope. Had to park on the last row of the car park and can’t move in the park... it isn’t school holidays, it’s not a pupil free day, it’s not a public holiday, yet the kids area has queues spilling out onto walkways
  21. Cult* of Chucky?? First wtf is that, secondly no. Adults running around a maze dressed as Chucky? Ummm no... lame dolls?? How do you envision that being pulled off successfully? im hoping for something special next year, I really am. Another substandard event and the brand will start to lose some of its gloss and acclaim.
  22. Insurance and negligence are an odd couple. If I don’t maintain my car and am driving with bald tyres & my brake pads are worn to the metal, and I have a blowout at 110km on the highway and slam into a guardrail, you reckon my insurer will pay for the damage? Nope... they’ll inspect my car, claim it wasn’t maintained to a reasonable state and wipe their hands of any claim... IF Dreamworld is ultimately found negligent, then more than likely the insurers will push for a non-payout and breach of insurance contract... Ardent will then be liable for any payouts associated, and re-payment of any already paid out by insurers. If the park lost crew off their maintenance teams after the incident, they have had 12 months to re-hire & train. There is zero acceptability to that being an excuse a year later
  23. “Incredible at building temporary attractions!” Now that’s a slogan... So does that make them temporarily incredible?
