  1. Crawl-through actually... was quite comedic watching full grown adults trying to crawl through the tunnel on Saturday...
  2. I always personally tug on the belt just to make sure my son is secure, which i did today as always. As for the ride ops, I don't think they really pay any attention to it other than making sure you have it over your lap. They never asked me to pull on the belt or checked themselves
  3. Really good area, love the design. Would have loved some up close photos today but the Tigers were feeling lazy and lying in the middle of the enclosure. Seeing one of the younger tigers stalking a 2m+ python that was in one of the trees on the island was pretty cool to watch though
  4. I doubt it's planned In the next 24 months or else it would be mentioned in investor notices and annual/quarterly Village reports
  5. Was also at DW today, and whilst this is only a very minor issue due to the completely soft nature of the ride, but halfway through Big Red Car, my son's seatbelt released. Now my son is 4 so he told me Straight away and I put it back on him. When I alerted the ride op on return to the station, he completely dismissed me, saying "well you must not have done it up properly to begin with". When I told him I most certainly had, I've taken my son in the ride 100 times and know how it works, he smiled and said "well you mustn't have" and turned his back on me. Again, and I stress my son was in no danger whatsoever, but i would have expected a much more sympathetic, "Thanks, 'll have someone look into it straight away" response Than what I got
  6. Doubt we'll see a new car anytime soon on TOT. I don't see that being an investment priority given they are operating under clearly restrained financial conditions
  7. Deborah Thomas’s stint as the chief customer officer of entertainment group Ardent Leisure has come to an end, almost a month before it began. Surprise! Just over two months ago, Ardent Leisure chairman George Venardos announced that Thomas would step down as the group’s chief executive and be replaced by former Nine executive Simon Kelly. The plan, chairman Venardos revealed in late April, was that Thomas was to move from the CEO role to the newly created role as chief customer officer on July 1. As of late yesterday, that’s no longer the case, as revealed by Margin Call online last night. Thomas — who was close to the group’s former longstanding chairman Neil Balnaves — is now an outgoing Ardent executive. The chief customer officer role has been scuttled entirely. The former Australian Women’s Weekly editor will also step down from the Ardent board, which she joined in late 2013. As of July 1, Thomas’s only formal role with the company — which last year was rocked by the death of four customers at its Dreamworld theme park — will be as a consultant. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/margin-call/margin-call-deborah-thomas-to-exit-troubled-dreamworld-operator-ardent-leisure/news-story/9856eb84dbb8b3efeb453d231530dc81
  8. A retheme or new trains won't fix Motocoaster. New trains may make it more comfortable for those who find it uncomfortable, but what let's motocoaster down is its lack of speed outside the first corner, and its height which diminishes any feeling of speed.
  9. The upside to the backwards facing is the viewpoint. You lose the majority of that in a second row
  10. Would cost close to double that to build here. Probably on par or more than DRH
  11. Relative to more than this topic but figured it will go fine here. DREAMWORLD has unveiled a multimillion-dollar revamp poised to win back the hearts and minds of visitors in the wake of last year’s Thunder River Rapids tragedy. It is almost eight months since four people died at the Gold Coast theme park, which has now announced a host of new attractions and upgrades to bring people back. A $7.5 million redevelopment of the award-winning Tiger Island has just been completed, while two rides shut since the horrific accident are set to reopen. New dining and retail experiences have been added, while the park will also host a number of after-dark parties, festivals and concerts. Park attendances plummeted in the wake of the disaster, with Dreamworld shut for almost two months and crowds are still well down, despite a resurgence in the latest figures released by parent company Ardent Leisure. However, speaking to the media on Friday CEO Craig Davidson said the new investment showed Dreamworld was here to stay. “We’re not going anywhere,” he said. “It’s slow and steady (but) we feel that we’re on the road to recovery. “We are seeing a steady improvement and we realise that this takes time but the best that we can do is to continually reinvest in the park and new experiences in a respectful manner.” May saw a significant improvement in visitor numbers and revenue from March and April, but it was still well down on the same period 12 months ago, according to data released by Ardent Leisure on Friday. Tiger Island now features an interactive ‘up close’ viewing experience where people can watch the animals from just millimetres away through glass walls or even smell their breath through special windows. The popular log ride and model car ride, both closed since the October disaster, are also poised to reopen after exhaustive safety inspections. At sister park WhiteWater World, a new eco-friendly energy system will allow slides and rides to be heated to 26 degrees through winter, while families can also rent out new double-storey tree house cabanas. New restaurants, cafes and shopping options have also been added. A coronial investigation in to the deaths of Kate Goodchild, Luke Dorsett, Roozi Araghi and Cindy Low remains ongoing with an inquest expected to be held in the coming months. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/dreamworld-unveils-revamp-in-wake-of-thunder-river-rapids-tragedy/news-story/ca2c2ec6be2efdfcadfc398cfc49bc5f
  12. As I stated, I was only on the ticketing page (as per my screen shot). I hadn't even seen the page you linked to as I wasn't looking for it. the only link I could have posted would have been the generic Buy Tickets page for all of DW as that was all I had viewed, and as far as I knew the only page that referenced the event
  13. So looking at my renewal options tonight on the DW Ticketing page and stumbled upon 'Festival Street Market' under the 'Shows & Events' Tab. Described as: Celebrate Christmas at Dreamworld’s Festive Street Market on Friday 1 or Saturday 16 December, showcasing international street market stalls, live music and entertainment. Premium VIP packages available at Tiger Island and Brock’s Garage on selected dates. Now my initial thought was "awesome! It's like White Xmas combined with Carnivale!". Exactly what DW needs! Then clicked on the dates to realise the basic price without the Premium VIP packages is $110pp. $160pp if you want to eat at Tiger Island. No passholder discounts, and price doesn't include access during the day of the event, just from 6:30pm-11pm. For a park that is struggling to claw back its lost visitation, you'd think they'd be trying to put together Affordable family-friendly events that will bring back groups of people. This isn't pitched as a corporate style Xmas party by the spiel provided, it's just a generic public event. The fact that it's restricted to over 15s is also self-limiting (given FN's isn't even age limited and would surely have stronger themes than a Festival Street Party at Xmas). On first glance this just sounds completely lacking in rational thought to me.
  14. Absolutely too late. Wouldn't be surprised if the trains were in shipping containers in the middle of the Atlantic, or sitting in a dock in Germany awaiting departure. how are you judging that demand for backwards seats is higher than initially thought? Not many people knew about backwards seats 72hrs ago..
  15. Under promise. Over deliver. Barring a major pickup I reckon the ride will open at least for the second week of the school holidays
  16. And the path connection works between MW/TG/AOS/WnW
  17. On the seaway at night in the middle of winter... the forethought astounds me. Will likely be under 10 degrees. Kids will need more than PJs... all tickets come with free pneumonia
  18. Well that was worth the 8 year bump.. welcome, I guess...
  19. Awesome new initiatives. Really tapping into the 'experience' market. Seems Movieworld is getting the jump the DWs "experiences that stay with you after you leave the park"
  20. Definitely not. In the last 2 years I've seen each of them once in the parade.
  21. 3.5 months is a massive downtime for the parks #1 attraction. Especially considering it had less down time last year for a full re-paint. maybe we will see a touch up of some of the internal elements/preshow. Id love to see the theming altered to reflect the cinematic universe (wouldn't be THAT hard to change the Ride dialogue to the Meteopolis being attacked by Doomsday, and having a model of his head & arm coming through the subway roof where the current taxi crash scene takes place) or course, with a certain big deal Coaster and the SDSC retheme/reinstall I doubt there is much in the budget
  22. Sadly Sita passed away yesterday, now leaving just one of the original DW born litter back in 1998.
  23. Tailspin remains the only ride on the GC I haven't been on, mainly as I usually only attend DW with Mr 4y.o and the few times I've been there solo it has been down for whatever reason. Does look like a heap of fun (and I feel dizzy after watching that video haha)
  24. Except DW security are not the police so can't do anything about everyone in the park utilising those parks to be closer to the front entry
  25. I take it you are referring to the VR version of the ride, which the majority of riders don't experience or see. It's not a theme if it's not inclusive of everyone on the ride, it's an addition. If they added VR option to Superman Escape where you were The Flash running around, it still wouldn't make it a Flash themed ride Good point, dunno why it got derailed. Let's move the convo to the correct place
