  1. China’s richest man Wang Jianlin talks up Gold Coast and meets with Mayor Kathleen Skene, Gold Coast Bulletin an hour ago PLANS by China’s richest man to build a multi billion-dollar Gold Coast theme park have advanced, with the Wanda Group talking up the city at a major investment forum. Wang Jianlin, 61, worth an estimated $39 billion, gave a glowing endorsement of the Coast, citing it as his only example of a city which had prospered from tourism outside of China. “Its value was discovered more than 50 years ago, and investment began,” he told the forum in Xiamen this month. “A city gradually took shape and a booming new city emerged purely as a result of investment in tourism ... it is ranked among the ‘top 10 tourism destinations in the world’ for almost a decade, and has prospered a state.” Chairman of China's Wanda Group Wang Jianlin. Mayor Tom Tate, with wife Ruth, met with the billionaire this week for the third time but would not comment on specific projects discussed, saying it was “commercial in confidence for now”. “My role is to ensure he knows our city is open-for-business so this group chooses to invest in the Gold Coast, before considering anywhere else in Australia,” he said. “Mr Wang Jianlin is incredibly impressed about our hospitality and open-for-business approach. “He loves the Gold Coast and I am confident our partnership with this company will be for the long-term.” Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate meeting with China's richest man Wang Jianlin, chairman of Wanda Group The mayor is in China with his deputy Donna Gates and a host of business people, including high-end commercial property agent Roland Evans, who is negotiating the possible billion-dollar sale of a 6000ha property at Norwell where a masterplanned city and theme parks have been mooted. Mr Wang, whose Wanda Group is a partner of the billion-dollar Jewel project at Broadbeach, met with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk last October to discuss plans for a major development on the Coast. Palaszczuk meeting with Wang Jianlin, Wanda Group Chairman, in Beijing Wanda Group general manager Xie Hong said at the time “it is Wanda’s intention to set a theme park up on the Gold Coast”. “This major project is still under negotiation with the State Government,” he said. A spokesman for Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the government was looking forward to working with Wanda towards new investments for the state. Wanda is the world’s largest owners of cinemas, sporting organisations, hotels, shopping centres and residential properties — but it has heavily invested in building theme parks in China in the past 12 months — including one in the country’s east worth $9.5 billion. http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/gold-coast/chinas-richest-man-wang-jianlin-talks-up-gold-coast-and-meets-with-mayor/news-story/c5c8126b4281bc5d3d57290a8ddfa2bb
  2. I can't speak highly enough for MW guest service team, they have been proactive, helpful and a delight to deal with the few times I've had queries or issues in park.
  3. When you refer to someone as "a fellow (worker/student/theme park enthusiast)' you are stating that you belong to the same group of people. So when he said 'speaking to a fellow worker' that indicates (if correct English was being used) that he too was working there.
  4. Hold on, so you work at MW now? No, they mean exactly what they wrote. Negative g force is about downward acceleration, not airtime.
  5. The containers are the structure that the blue screen sits on for filming in the pool obviously a differently location, but shows how the containers are used when POTC was filming on the coast last year
  6. Why would you want to put on a headset on the three most highly themed rides in the park? Including one they've just finished updating/refreshing the theme on? I don't get that at all.
  7. Funny, I'd heard the ignition source was discarded cigarette from a maintenance tech..
  8. AHS would be a great maze option. If I was going to the effort & cost of securing the licensing for it, I'd want to utilise it a lot more than just a precinct
  9. Well the guy just said he would be working FN's in the apparition precinct. Did you not believe him?
  10. Haven't done PC before but will in the next month. Sure my 4 year old will love it. Webslave I think you've covered it all pretty well and logically are correct in most of all you wrote.
  11. Bit hard to hide construction when it generally involves machinery. It's a fence not a prison wall around the perimeter..
  12. That's is a such a ridiculous statement. Seriously. when you look at everything DW has executed theme wise in the past 2 years, what is there to complain about? dough bros ice creamery Brock museum even back to abc4kids world & Dreamworks theming as been great and really added to the areas.
  13. Agree with all that Alex only thing I favour with DW when on a 'family' visit is geographical ease of access to all those features you mention, ie. You can walk between all of them throughout the day rather than driving between parks.
  14. Thanks for the heads up on it not opening, was going to head down but after reading the posts we detoured to check out Tiger Island instead. will do WWF on Saturday when we check out DD
  15. When you stare closely at that for 40 seconds a secret message appears..
  16. Whilst the majority here love a good coaster/thrill ride, I'd say nearly all of us appreciate that a great park often incorporates a lot more then a coaster/s & thrills. Your point about quality is also a loaded statement. Movieworld has better quality coasters if you are saying SE v HWSW or AA v MDMC. But to judge 'better quality rides' would depend on how one judges quality. Dreamworlds rides are all quality for what they aim to be. I'd say the same applies to MW.
  17. i'm sure some people know, but they won't be posting it here..
  18. Well as I said, the closing time will be relative to the queue waiting time. If it's a 90min queue, then it will close at 8.
  19. The mazes have all been revealed already
  20. Love the improvements they've made since the last photos!
  21. DW is still the superior full day park for Families. MW has the best coasters, and will continue to do so. DW also hasn't fallen off at all, they improved their offering dramatically in the last 12-24 months.
