Are we starting to see the decline of VRTP?
rappa replied to Vidgamer's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think you've got two seperate things colliding here to make things appear worse than they are... Firstly Dreamworld knows they are in the crap, they weren't doing well before Covid and public perception was at an all time low. So they HAVE to plow ahead with everything they had planned to try and get a bumper summer and turn the place around. Then you have Village who were doing extremely well prior to covid, a very sound company. And one that has just been bought by a company with financials first and foremost at the front of their mind. Now we have the biggest downturn in trading since the extended closure of 2020, I'd almost hazard a guess being open loses them money. So they've pulled back their spending to try and keep the balance sheet in check. Then when the people flock back they can kick all their plans back into gear and look good in the books, because regardless they'll have solid trade coming in simply due to their solid brand position in the market. So you simultaneously have Dreamworld being desperate, and Village being cautious which make Village look a bit on the decline from the outside. I'd say once the tourist floodgates open again they'll swing back into full gear -
I don’t care who did or didn’t make it, I think the video makes the ride and the park look bad. I have no doubt this will be a good ride presented well. But what I see in this video (if I ignore the weird glitches) is a ride that seems awkwardly paced, not that thrilling, and a whole heap of unfinished construction, back of house views, and ugly plant like all the Sky Voyager A/C units. I don’t know why you’d want that release instead of waiting till you can have something a bit more polished to present. It’s one of their biggest additions ever and I don’t think that particular video does anything to entice me to go ride it. Compared to say their earlier 3D rendered video which made it look awesome. just my 2 cents. Zero bias, just an observation. I would have waited. But I also don’t run a theme park so 🤷♂️

If the parks get too busy for 6 hours opening time of course they will extend the hours. This is being based on demand right now obviously.

Disney CEO Bob Iger steps down, replaced by Bob Chapek
rappa replied to cheski's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah I'm so so against this. The one thing I always banged on about is how once you pony up your hard earned cash to get in the gate, the parks really were a magical getaway where class was removed. Low income families could escape being the 'have nots' for a day, and didn't have to stand there as the rich people passed them in the 3 hours queue. This is a sad time on that front. It's been a few years now (cough cough) since I was at Disneyland however it was around the time they rolled out the new app based fastpass (admittedly it was $30 a day) and it really was a fantastically set up thing. But it didn't make you 'plan your fkn magical day' before you even got there. That's once thing I really hate that they've done with the parks over the years, spontaneity is one thing that makes a theme park visit fun. But it's Disney and there is no parallel, so we will all piss and moan about it, and then as soon as Scomo opens the damn gate we'll rush out it and back on a plane to give them all our money. -
What does Steel Taipans Station remind you of?
rappa replied to Village Idiot's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I mean theres a weird irony that in that photo you have a nicely themed station for a terrible coaster and bland, generic station for a great coaster. -
You also don’t want to pay $100 to get into some attraction that resembles your local westfield and has the ‘train’ to match. Theme parks are meant to provide unique experiences. And yes they are expensive to provide, which is why they are unique, which is why people want to go. Or you know, do the bare minimum, slap a sign out front that says Dreamworld and call it a day.

Nah they can only have those events if they are judging footballs

Im hearing from the entertainment industry that everyone that bumped in at Ekka is getting paid in full. Anyone know if anything has been done for the Showies? Do they pay the Ekka or does the Ekka pay them?

COVID case visited Dreamworld in Queensland

Surely she’s lost her job out of this and if so that’s probably pretty good punishment enough. -
Magic Kingdom has the scale…but… Disneyland has the Magic!

It was the greatest piece of shit disguises as journalism I’ve ever seen… but at the same time that could just be the tagline of Spotlight as a whole.

Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
rappa replied to Vidgamer's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well you did say you longed for “how we make movies” attractions in the park 😂 -
Bit late to the party but the power outages were caused by Load Shed. Which basically means the power grid turned you off on purpose to reduce the load, so bit of a crapshoot as to if you lost power or not. They did this because the frequency of the grid started to drop and to prevent further power station trips (disconnection from the grid) they had to shed load to get the frequency back up. It’s my understanding the initial trip at Callide also led to a trip at Gladstone which obviously made things worse.

For me AA replacement still should be a wing coaster or flyer themes to Matrix with a cool pre show/lift hill and then ‘flying’ around the city as you enter the matrix. Loading the train is perfectly suited story wise to getting plugged in. I have the entire ride, show and story design in my head.

Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
rappa replied to Vidgamer's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I actually agree completely. That comment was on another page and someone posted it here. It's not like Bikash came to Parkz and said "guys just wait till friday, you'll be blown away" And in all fairness last week Dreamworld basically called a press conference to announce a tunnel and some rocks, and no one came on here criticising them for a fairly lacklustre reveal. Gotta be fair to both companies. -
Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions
rappa replied to Vidgamer's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think really it depends if the message is for enthusiasts or the media. Because both have very different perceptions. In this one case I think it counts as a big announcement, and the “can’t compete” certainly is reference to the offering as a whole and not one single item. Its also quite boastful yes, but that is his style. -

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. They may not have announced an earth shattering attraction, but can’t really blame them when that going to happen was only created in ones own mind. -
Movieworld 30 Year Anniversary Celebration Predictions

I dunno, 3 new rides at Sea World, new slide complex at WnW, new exhibit at PC, big new event and parade probably with the most ‘movieness’ we’ve seen at Movie World in ages... Oh and potentially two hotels To me the ‘can’t compete with us’ is fairly valid. Like you can’t compete with the sheer offering vrtp has. Bikash never said “you can’t compete with one ride I’m going to announce”
