Tiger Island Refurbishment - Dreamworld 2016

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but yours are some of the weirdest ever. This half baked exhibit is great but a world class ride down the road is awful... I just can't make any sense of your views -
I like the system Dollywood uses. A cup of water is free, available at any outlet in the park and encouraged/pushed at every ride on a hot day. Bottled water is pay.

Backwards row - DC Rivals HyperCoaster

Yeah I'm kinda in the camp of if you're too big to fit on the ride, maybe riding coasters shouldn't be your priority right now. -
Backwards row - DC Rivals HyperCoaster
rappa replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Did you need a black pot to go with your kettle mate? Just get over your buthurt about two friken seats on a train. Who cares. Stop flogging the issue that no sane person should possibly care about. How do you know the train wasn't going to be 2 seats shorter and they in fact ADDEDD capacity for backwards. -
Arkham Asylum - VR coaster at Movie World

I think you're a little close to home on this one @Slick to be objective. Regardless of anyone's feelings on the acting awuality or anything like that I think a good point was raised... Now I personally having no interest in DC at all have never paid attention to the storyline in the que. But going what's said above certainly seems like this video breaks that storyline which probably is a mistake. Either should have worked it in, OR altered the storyline to suit. -
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the park selling junk food and kids eating it. Just the same as there is no problem with taking the kids to maccas after sport on Saturdays for a treat. Oh hang on, sport, what did I say there? Thats right there is no problem with kids eating crap food IF they are regularly getting out and receiving exercise and the majority of their meals are of decent quality at home. Its not the parks job to raise kids and make good parenting decisions. So many parents today blaming availability of bad food for their kids being unhealthy rather than themselves.

Tiger Island Refurbishment - Dreamworld 2016
rappa replied to Jay Jay The Jet Plane's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I have them the benefit of the doubt last Monday as it wasn't finished but now I'm not. This screams of we ran out of money. The unfinished gal beams for the roof, the flag green walls. Come on that's half assing it best and makes it look like a shitty zoo exhibit. Does the front facade still have that awkward bit of bare galvanized support sticking out at the end? -
Backwards row - DC Rivals HyperCoaster
rappa replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Yeah I don't get all the back row anger. If you don't like it just done ride in the backwards row. It will in no way affect your time in the house. **note if any idiot decides they feel the need to pedantically point out that it affects 2 people per cycle capacity so it does affect them I will ban you for one week -
Will DC Rivals Hypercoaster further erode Dreamworld's attendance?
rappa replied to SHOOKETH's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think building basically the same ride but a bit taller or a bit faster or a bit whatever is the completely wrong move. Go go with a totally different concept. I say RMC all the way as I keep saying. Even if it's all steel supports and not timber. If money was no object I'd go with a mobius racer to give it a real point of difference. -
This is a ridiculously unrealistic idea which you admit in your posts so why even post it? Thank goodness, I was getting worried as you hadn't mentioned you had a child in a good couple posts now

DC Rivals HyperCoaster construction discussion
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Nope no way. Do not light the whole track. Parts will start to fail and it will be a maintenance nightmare and look like shit. Stick to ground based flood lighting. -
There are many cases where the 'fast track' pass at parks doesn't qualify for special seats. Many don't let you use the fast track pass for the front row. I see this will be no different here. If you want the premium seat (back or front) you have to wait like everyone else. That's the best system. Anyone who says differently is a very selfish person. As for Fast Track in generak for Rivals I would say I very much like the idea of an add on for this. $15, single ride, and only available with the purchase of a park wide Fast Track pass. Magic Mountain do this for X and it works well.

Or it's undergoing maintenance...

Or open in Sep for the passholder preview only??

WRONG (at all the backseat is bad comments) What do you do for the 6 months of the year this thing will run with one train? Simple, if you don't like gimmicks, don't ride backwards. If you want the back seat ride, sit 2nd to the back row, it's pretty well exactly the same as indicated above. Its a massive win and for the normal pack goer really high on the cool sale. Excellent move for the park in my opinion. Wait to see how many other parks order a new back row car. Also what the hell is wrong with all you 'too intense' people. Are you coaster enthusiasts or not?

These guys are really active in the coaster community and have some good shots of systems in their page https://www.facebook.com/IrvineOndreyEngineering/

Most if not all (some early electronic controls used relay logic) run off Industrial PLCs(programmable logic controllers). Roller coasters have more more in common with your standard automated assembly line in a factory than anything else when it comes to control systems. Many manufacturers use Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation as their preferred brand of gear. You'll find most coaster manufactures use a preferred sub contractor for their controls. For instance Intamin use Inautec. RMC often use Irvine Ondrey, S&S actually do their own. Disney also build all their own control systems for their rides regardless of who supplies them. They em are all programmed in simple but highly dependable Ladder Logic with each manufacturer of equipment, AB, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc, having their own proprietary software to do so. Previously coasters would use multiple PLCs wired together for error checking and redundancy however recently most people have changed over to using a single Safety Rated PLC as these have become more economical and flexible. A dark ark ride will typically operate the same for vehicle control (basically anything that can kill you) and a seperate system will control the show elements. This may include more PLCs but also likely audio, video, lighting controllers as well which usually come out of the theatrical/entertainment industry.

The space probe campaign started LONG before the ride opened. It was an ultimate teaser campaign. The fact that the ride was sponsored by ch 7 and the initially teaser featured their logo meant nobody new if this was a new show, a movie, or what it was. Later into the campaign there were hints this was a ride or something. Once major hype was established the Wonderland logo FINALLY appeared. Safe to say we all couldn't wait to ride!!! Nowdays campaigns are very literal and they can't help but splash the park logo on from the get go so there is much less mystery and hype. Fun fact, Lynton Harris was responsible for Space Probe.

Yes Cable replacement is a pretty standard job.

@Slick I feel like I can be the dick here before someone else beats me to it and pedantically correct you. Latteral forces are not what lets you spin. It's greater wind pressure on the wings. In the outside seats you go faster as the circumference of your 'flight' is larger. Also at the front there is nothing in front of you to block the airflow so you get greater lift still. #someonehadtodoit #sorrynotsorry
-
It's simple. Take the front left seat. Pretty much zero effort required to spin.
