  1. As far as I can tell Junior Driving School hasn’t done much/anything to increase attendance. Compare that to some of the kids area additions at DW that led to demonstrable attendance increases. It’s not the worst thing in the world, but IMO it is mostly a waste of space. I don’t know why they had to use so much of the show building. That space could really have been used for something superior. They could have even put a number of kids rides inside the building and made it a whole new precinct that would have been perfect for families in wet weather etc.
  2. Wow I had no idea there were op booths throughout the ride course in Wild West Falls and Scooby. They are well concealed - I’ve never noticed anyone. Why does WWF only have one on the first lift? What’s the purpose of it?
  3. But you did aim it at him and got it wrong, just saying. On another note, that post seems to be quite popular on SW’s FB page. Who knew a giant splash area would be in such high demand among families?
  4. Ahh ok, that's a bit disappointing, sounds like the volcano won't erupt. I'm guessing it was just installed to hide the 'Shark Bay' pipes from view then?
  5. I've been meaning to compliment Parkz since the earlier scoops from the DW CEO, but WELL DONE RICHARD AND TEAM! The professionalism of Parkz has no doubt led to these big bosses feeling comfortable sitting down and talking to you. The accuracy and insight of Parkz' journalism in relation to the theme park industry in this country far, far exceeds any mainstream media outlet, as we all know. And on this particular article, I am rather thrilled that Clark Kirby appears to be, from all indications so far, the CEO we were all hoping for for Village Roadshow Theme Parks. Everything he said was bang on the money. This is a guy that seems to know exactly what needs to be done. Let's hope he keeps up that momentum and sticks with the strategy!
  6. Surely it will have a water eruption feature? Didn't we see pipes going right up the middle of the structure before it was covered up with the rockwork? Update, here were the pics showing the pipes inside the volano:
  7. Amazing news. A theme park that listens to guest feedback and does everything possible to maximise the customer experience... a recipe for total success. PS Long live non-discounted theme park tickets. May it lead to much capital expenditure.
  8. Should have coincided with the opening of Australia’s biggest rollecoaster. Just dumb.
  9. Sad to see the waterfall removed from Calypso, although hoepefully it is coming back. The theming on Calypso is excellent, and one of the reasons it is so popular. Harks back to a happier time where Village thought it was worth providing plenty of atmosphere and theming at WnW.
  10. If I was the boss of MW's marketing department I would have even gone as far as changing the MW logo to incorporate DC Rival's first drop into it, at least for the first few years of the coaster's operation. The coaster is so major it should be a park-wide takeover type of thing, not just treated as another small addition. Everybody needs to know about it.
  11. I nodded so hard while reading Alex’s post above that I got a neck cramp. So, so true. Movie World’s marketing department needs a massive shake-up in my opinion. VRTP marketing needs to go back to the good old days. Back then, the whole country knew when a new attraction had opened.
  12. And yet yesterday some mates down here in Melb were discussing a trip to the GC and they were all like "yeah let's go to Dreamworld". I had to inform them DW still has many rides closed, while Movie World has just built the biggest and best coaster in Australia. They had no idea, and even then didn't really believe me. It's interesting that to many Aussies in the older age group, DW is still seen as the place to go.
  13. Looks like they've planned ahead and allowed room for a future new slide next to Gravity Wave - there appears to be a vacant slot big enough for another major slide exit in the splashdown pool.
  14. Great to hear. And imagine the boost to attendance they'd get if they marketed the ride properly!
  15. Wild West Falls looks nothing like Wild West Falls, LW is green, and you can't even see Superman Escape's iconic top hat. Now more than ever, with DC Rivals stretching out of the park perimeter, it would have made sense to go with a traditional interpretive park map that uses plenty of creative license and doesn't need to show rides to scale.
  16. It's bizarre - as far as I can tell Village Parks doesn't value interstate business much anymore. It's rare to see an ad down here, especially one advertising a new attraction. Years ago everyone knew when a park installed a new attraction.
  17. My concern is a lot of people won't know about the ride at all. If I wasn't a park enthusiast and member of Parkz I wouldn't know that Australia's biggest and best ever theme park ride had just opened.
  18. Haha you're absolutely right, great point. Pure joy and fear!
  19. It's called Movie World's current marketing department. Failing at life.
  20. As if you'd build Australia's biggest roller coaster ever and then release a park map that only fits the first drop in.
  21. It's TERRIBLE, just like all their marketing initiatives of late. So ugly and basic. I personally think a theme park's map is vital. Not to mention I could barely look at it in mobile as they are still using their old site. I had to come back here to look at the version uploaded in this thread. It just doesn't make the park look fun at all. I don't know why they didn't just use the artist who created the WnW Sydney map - that style is much more suitable for a theme park. It's also a shame they couldn't fit more of DC RIvals in. If they'd gone for a style with more artistic license, rather than trying to be 'realistic', they could have.
  22. That's interesting - don't hear much about AA VR anymore. Is it still popular? I think most of us expected Rivals would have minimal theming, with the ride itself doing most of the work. I appreciate the appropriate music in the queue though, which no doubt adds to the atmosphere.
  23. One of the things I love about this is the way it expands the park so dramatically, with the lift hill and first drop able to be seen by people in the queue, but the rest of the ride taking place so far outside the park's main perimeter. It's awesome. Looking forward to seeing the new park map.
  24. I thought I'd revive this thread as the topic has become relevant again. The opening of the incredible DC Rivals HyperCoaster is imminent and I have just one question: WHERE IS THE MARKETING AND WHY HASN'T MOVIE WORLD UPGRADED THEIR MAIN WEBSITE? I used all caps to express how horrified I am. It makes no sense to me that Parkz is marketing this ride better than the park itself. When I visit these forums I am instantly hit with a full main page graphic promo for DC Rivals, which is the way it should be, but when I visit Movie World's tired and dated website there is almost nothing. Certainly nothing that fits a ride of this magnitude. The attraction should be a whole page takeover, similar to Parkz. American theme parks make sure you know a new attraction is opening, even when it is relatively minor. I know MW invested in a separate DC Rivals website, but no one would even have known it existed if it hadn't been for the user who discovered it on these forums. I know they created a TVC for the ride, but it barely shows the magnitude of the coaster itself. And where is the TVC playing? Just to GC locals? The whole of Australia needs to be made aware this major new attraction exists, or MW won't see the justified bump in attendance. People need to know it's there! Step up, Movie World. You've built potentially the best ride this country has seen but people need to know about it.
