Dreamworld's Stormtrooper Weekend 2017
Slick replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm glad Disney caved. The 501st are a genuinely neat charity organisation, they'd be insane to try and close them down. Looks like a great weekend to flex some photography muscle. -

I'd dare say the yellow isn't colour accurate. -
Why rush to open boxing day then?

Fake pics of "New Dreamworld Rollercoaster"

OMG, I get to do my first remotely moderator-ish thing ever and lock this thread! It's a five year old thread. It's well and truly debunked. -
Dreamworld reopening - the summer season

When people complain about headaches and roughness on rides I always figure it's down to a height differential. I remember when I was a kid, rides that I would hop on regularly (like say Cyclone) would be killer because my ears would clip the OTSR, but now that i'm much older and over six foot (and thus my ears and head clear the OTSR completely) the only time I really find a ride "rough" is when older woodies (like Scenic Railway or White Cyclone) vibrate and rattle so violent my wisdom teeth knock about and give me a headache. -
Dreamworld Lego Store - reviews and opinions
Slick replied to Jamberoo Fan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Look I get that, I guess the Pick A Brick wall and the engraving is cool - from what I can understand there's a lot of hype because of the people who love it, and you're right, it's like lining up for an Apple product. There's just some real diehard fans out there. ...You know, people who throw rocks in glass houses and all that jazz? -
Parkz News Are Australian theme park rides safe?
Slick replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Ahh they were the days. See, i'm shits-cared of heights, but i'm not scared of going on rides like Giant Drop for the simple fact that the processes and redundancies in place that makes a ride like that possible in a world of litigation and insurance policies basically dictates the crazy safety measures that keep folks like you or I safe. -
DC Rivals HyperCoaster construction discussion
Slick replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Pretty much this. Plus in terms of product offering, when you're trying to diversify your line-up i'd imagine having two roller-coasters almost exactly the same (but one massively bigger) wouldn't be a great move on many levels. -
Great to see they're hurtling along with this. I was listening to a podcast yesterday and a few of the guys on it checked out Top Golf in Vegas and rated it highly. $60USD for a 5-6 person booth for an hour + drinks and food from memory which is pretty damn good value for an hour or two of fun.

That was up while the ride was undergoing maintenance. My guess, and it's just that, is that logically you'd put something like that in if you were doing work up in the top levels and were worried about any components coming loose and dropping.

Parkz News Are Australian theme park rides safe?
Slick replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Theme park enthusiasts in a nutshell: "MAINSTREAM MEDIA DON'T GET THE FACTS RIGHT! WE WISH SOMEONE WOULD SET THEM STRAIGHT FOR ONCE!" (Richard writes a great article that's intended for most folks to read and understand without getting bogged down in a level of over-bearing technicality) "IT DOESN'T EXPLAIN THE INTRICACIES OF EVERY SINGLE RIDE IN AUSTRALIA, BURN PARKZ!" Probably one of the most useful and insightful reads in terms of the theme park industry at large to happen in a very long time. We need more of this. I'm sure if you support Parkz and Richard's writing and, you know, offer positive and supportive feedback instead of tearing down one of the few institutions trying to actually support enthusiasts, maybe @Richard would be inclined to do a series of articles that give enthusiasts something a little more detailed just for them. -
I don't get this... why isn't it on the main website? For example, if the current WNW website is so old it can't accommodate modern UI/UX standards or your marketing strategy and thus you can't advertise your new product the way you want to, surely that's an indicator you should get someone to make a new website instead of segregating your targeted demo by introducing new FB/web pages?

Parkz News Dreamworld CEO talks LEGO Store
Slick replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The crowds were definitely bigger than they were expecting. I'm sure when it quietens down you'll be able to enter/exit via LEGO Store. -
Wow, so this is a thing, huh?

I'll say it once and i'll say it again, it's an education and perception issue. People don't know any better, and the media is playing on it. The general public don't realise the failsafes, redundancies and safety procedures that are prevalent on all modern attractions, particularly the more expensive ones or the ones that go higher or faster. The general public don't realise that the amusement industry is a lot like the airline industry in terms of learning from unforeseen design flaws and then ensuring it never happens again. The general public don't realise that when a ride stops, it's a totally normal, routine part of operations. Let's say for example, your own car's brakes fail or the steering wheel stops working. If the car can detect that and stop your vehicle pre-emptively, then wouldn't you rather that then smashing into a wall or worst yet, injuring others? Get where i'm going with this? It's 100% education and nothing else.

Dreamworld Lego Store construction
Slick replied to Theme Park Girl's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Doubtful I'd say. Knowing LEGO, beyond any additional soft launches they'll want to keep the fanfare fixed on Saturday morning. -
Dreamworld Lego Store construction
Slick replied to Theme Park Girl's topic in Theme Park Discussion
You're welcome. If you're on the fence about going, go. It'll be worth your while. ? Lets not forget for a second here that ultimately it's a merch store filled with stuff. It's nice, it's a welcome addition and it's a well crafted space... and it's a merch space, not a new ride, not a new roller-coaster.... Oh while I remember, one thing I really didn't like was that big vine wall. It's now got a big dark green mesh sheet fixed to it, completely covering the original Dreamworld face. Not a fan. -
Dreamworld Lego Store construction
Slick replied to Theme Park Girl's topic in Theme Park Discussion
So, LEGO store sneak peak time. It's an impressively massive space that's quality as hell. So much to look at and when the park surrounds it with its new Food & Bev offerings (still in construction) it should be a great little addition to the park. Honestly no complaints here. Looks nice, presents well, good stuff. If you want to see more photos, there's a few more here, but the key ones are below. -
You let me know where you found out it was an unexpected closure, yeah? Because i'm reliably informed that it was anything but. I do love Sea World, but leaving a heap of closed rides in and around your park, particularly when other "tricky" rides were immediately ripped out of the park previously isn't the best look in the world, particularly when one of the closed rides is one of the most visible (slide tower) and there's no information on it on the website anymore to educate guests that it's a closed ride.

I can report the Heineken is very, very foamy and takes the staff behind the counter the equivalent of pouring two beers to get one good beer. -

The big takeaway from this is what some are now calling the great beer crisis of 2017. Those beer taps need some love asap. #wherehavethebubblesgone?
