  1. Just wondering, can anyone work out what this is trying to say? I guess Im on the outer with surfing terms. And while this is a little late, I wonder why they decided to go with the name White Water World given the parks beach theme, White Water is something you associate with rivers and forests and the like. It seems odd they passed up on Bluewater Bay (One of the mooted options), especially considering we have awkward named things popping up at the park such as "Whit Water Beach Club . But like I said its a bit late now.
  2. Ozcoaster havent said no, they just havent confirmed yet. Im betting on them doing the coverage for it.
  3. Dont forget Wicked Twister But, this is the first complaint i have heard about the variety in track profiles at a a park. They are all very different coasters and they are all by the same manufacturer so thats all there is to it really, and the fact for each of these applications Intamin was the only choice . I think it reflects well on Intamin to have been contracted so many times. But while we are at it, SFMM has 6 coasters with the box section track profile (eg, the one used by B&M and Giovinola), but again, very different rides. But out of interest, are you a fan of RCT
  4. I disagree, a timber structure has a nice rustic look that would match the Wild West area well, though i think a steel structure would be more likley. But still, i dont mind the look of a wooden coaster, i cant understand why everyone seems to can it. Dont forget that the other two MWs have woodies too, and the theming at those parks seems pretty on par with our MW, if not better in some cases. I think a good approach would be just to have a sort of out and back layout that runs along the left side of WWF, with a twister finale. That way you would avoid big patches of empty land since the 'out' side and the 'back' side would be side by side (yes i said 'side' 4 times then) And anyway, i can imagine any empty spots being filled with a patch of those sierra pine trees. As for the on ride aspect, there would be those noise tunnels/walls similar to balder, but they could be appropriately themed (for example by hanging western style lanterns off them etc). These walls could also serve to block the view to any unavoidable ugly bits. And Joz, as for a theme, i say it should just be called "Wild West ________", it would sort of partner up with "Wild West Falls" if this was done. And if that fails, i think Time Warner have a Western Show that is on pay TV called "Deadwood", which sounds quite cool IMO. And good point about computer game themed rides, the great thing is many games already have an underlying theme. And when you think about it gameplay is often linear, and rides by their nature tend to be this way too. They could go retro too, what about a Tetris freefall ride or a Pac Man wild mouse
  5. Its just an unoffical site full of ads, no content of its own (not even construction pics), worst of all it just links to other peoples sites and forum posts (very professional ) 2/10 What about just going here : http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/ride.php?rid=197 It has everything that site has but better or actually working.
  6. Its not really the same. The reason Yasmins getting married got axed was because it was a crap show that nobody was interested in. And a show is expendable, it can be disposed of at any time. And often when a show like this goes, its gone for good. Compare this with a thrill ride or an new water park, we have had virtually no real "flop" attractions. I doubt a ride can be drastically overhyped to the extent people dont like it. Also they arent going to just close down a whole new ride or a water park in the same way 10 axed Yasmin. They would merely change their marketing approach if the park didnt get the needed visitors.
  7. Yes, LW is a bit of an odd match, but they did paint the trains in American police car colours, and the German version of this ride used realistic vehicles. But here they did make an attempt to tie the ride system in with the theme. As for WWF, well as the name suggests the ride involves (Water)Falls so a rickety boat is a good choice. Still, if you wanted to do a Matrix ride i think a flying coaster is the logical choice given all the flying Neo did in the films, call it something like The Matrix: Flight of Neo. IMO it would be stupid if they just did some black and green coaster with the only theming being those scrolling green characters projected on the walls etc, its just uncreative IMO.
  8. Out of the ones I have ridden WWF and Mammoth Falls were both very good. However, I would love to ride Popeye and Blutos Bilge Rat Barges, and Grizzly River Run, they both look like very good rides.

    The Wii

Im not sure if it will still be there, But, it was on Level 1, down where the meet santa thing is. Its basically across from JB HiFi, but its not in an actual shop, its just a little thing they have set up.

    The Wii

I was at Highpoint shopping center in Melbourne on Monday and I was fortunate enough to have a go at a few games on the Wii demo they had there. (DW Rulz, since you head there often you should check it out, its on Level 1) I came away very impressed and I am looking foward to it being released here finally. First up i had a go at Wii Play, its basically just a few minigames that come packaged when you buy a second Wiimote. They had a duck hunt type game which basically involved pointing and shooting little targets, not paticulary special IMO. They also had laser hockey, where you move the remote to move the hitter, and turn the remote to change the angle. But it seemed far to sensitive and again seemed a bit plain. Next I had a go at Wii Sports, the game that is included with the system. This game was fantastic, the motion control worked flawlessly and they were plain fun. It was surprising in tennis just what you could do, if you held the remote above your head and and hit foward lightly it would do a lob high in the air, similary swinging it sideways fast would do an equally brutal shot. It was quite funny doing a drop shot, the person i was playing against tried running towards the screen in attempt to hit it even though this doesnt actually help to do that. The other sport they had going was 10 pin bowling. Again this was good, you just had to swing the remote foward and release a button to let go of the ball, if you relased it too late it would just go high, hit the alley and roll slowly towards the end. But it was challenging, i only managed 1 spare and no strikes. On another unit they had Zelda going, so i tried out the fishing game in it (im not really a fan of adventure games so i didnt try the other part) Again, your motions translate well in this, you sort of whip the remote over your head to cast off, and when a fish comes near you wiggle the remote so the lure on the end attracts a fish. When it bites you then rapidly wind the nunchuck attachment connected to the remote around in a circular motion to reel in. Unforunatley this made the connector cord whip around a fair bit, maybe i should have held the remote further away. Lastly i had a go at WarioWare, for those not familiar with this game, basically you get these little 4 second 'microgames' thrown at you with short breaks in between, and the idea is to win as many as you can without stuffing up. This was my personal favourite just because of all the ways it made use of the remote. Some of them included holding the remote vertically and shifing a car into gear, holding the remote on your palm and then moving your hand to keep a broom balanced, shaking the remote to rid a banana of ants, holding the remote like a baton and then swinging your arms to make an athlete run towards the finish line, holding the remote like a pen and scribbling madly to make a biro start working, and holding the remote with both hands and pushing towards the screen to make someone fall over. So overall its a good system, its very innovating and Im looking foward to seeing to sort of things they can come up with to work with this control system.
  11. A dive machine or the mystery mine train of course, those ride systems just scream the Matrix to me See, this is what I mean about people thinking of random ride systems paired up with a movie theme. Everybody seems to forget that at MW the ride system tends to be based very closely around the theme, think about how SDSCs vehicles are the same as the ones in the ghost train scene from the movie, or how on SE they have made an attempt to theme the vehicles like MRT trains, and have added the superman on the back which ties the story together well.
  12. Err Wonderland girl, if you need to add more to one of your posts, just click the edit button rather than posting 3 messages in a row. And, as for your question about MWs new ride, its not really like Space Probe at all. Space probe simply lifted you to the top and you fell back down at the speed of gravity. A space shot however has a cable and piston system, so you get pulled very fast to the top (or should i say launched, hence why it is called a space shot) and then you get yanked back down toward the ground faster than gravity. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shot
  13. A quick search on google with the term "London Eye height" yeilded 135m. And looking at this sites own park and ride database, the height of the Sea World Eye is 60m. There is nothing wrong with doing your own research instead of getting others to spoon feed you the answers....
  14. Sorry, I dont understand what you are saying. A Cannonbow is just a bowl that uses a 2 person raft, like the behemoth it also uses a spiral exit in the middle rather than simply dropping out. So how can both rides be coming, if there is only one Cannonbowl being built, and it is different to the other two types?
  15. I second that, the large amounts of water, shallow landing pool and rougher seams between slide segments (just look at the difference between white water mountain and mammoth falls at WnW, white water mountain has very smooth slides, but mammoth has rough joins (no need for smooth ones) that make "seal noises" as the raft passes over) that would make the ride very dangerous. Also, with the single rider version there is an obvious capacity issue, it is quite slow to send people down one at a time, and then after that wait for them to swim out of the pool. Compare this to the Behemoth bowl which can take 4 people at once, and has a shallow exit area that is easy to get out of. You would need at least 4 body slide bowls to have the same capacity, and even then you lack the group fun factor from riding with 3 others. Though, I want to try a single rider bowl at one point, i enjoy a good old bomb or dive, so dropping out sounds kind of fun.
  16. I have wondered about tha, but if polyeuathane wheels were used, and sound barriers/tunnels were placed by the track (like Balder at Liesberg) i think the neighbours could be kept happy.
  17. You know, that arrangement sounds very much like the mine cars on the wooden wild mouse in RCT1/2, no joke.
  18. Hmm, I'd love to know who would get confused. And I'd love even more to see these people at a bank, there's two lines there, there would be these poor people wanting to see a teller, but they are actually in the line for the service counter. I rate that idea pretty highly...kind of reminds me of the Superman that sits up on the tower of S:TE at SFMM. Yes, there has been this long running problem engineers have had. It seems normal rules dont apply, and despite the fact that a space shot is essentially a strong steel frame attaching signs to it simply wont work. It has to do with variations in the earths magnetic field causing weakness in the structure....
  19. They could indeed, it is a Ride Trade Looping Starship, (http://www.ridetrade.com/r_products_roundrides.htm) but with a pirate theme of course. Dont know why DW would though, its hardly groundbreaking and no better than their current line up, and there are plenty of similar rides here (Eg at the Luna Parks, travelling shows etc)
  20. Umm, it seems a lot of people are piping up names of movies that rides could be themed around, but not really saying how it would translate into a ride, or worse yet just suggesting a theme and then a random ride system it could use.
  21. ... LOL way to copy my post. But anyway, another "family friendly" coaster i think SW could get is one of these http://www.rcdb.com/id3457.htm, i can imagine it working well, it has few supports so it could glide over the ski lake or something.
  22. ... I hope they do eventually make it a permanent part of the line up, if they have to get another wheel i hope they pick one of those Intamin freefall or coaster wheels like at DCA.
  23. I had always been under the impression wood was more environmentaly friendly, since the sort of wood they use tends to come from plantations anyway. Steel on the other hand comes from ore in the first place, and open cut mining has a pretty big impact, then you have to think of all the energy and pollution released in processing and forming it. At least it can be recycled though, but then again timber can be reused in some ways too.
