  1. Nobody on this forum has suggested what the possible cause might be Rabies Disney. None of us. Only comments in regards to a cause have been quoted. I'm sure the investigators are working their little Richard off trying to work out the cause. Like I said only time will tell. I see what you're getting at, don't speculate, but who has? The Qld police have, that's who!
  2. let me clear things up here as one of only 2 warner village employees on this board The Emergency Reponse Team took the photo its part of there job. as for talking about how it started looks from my human eye electrical but I think everybody should stop commenting on if buts ect and let the investgaters do there job and then tells us. so wrong there mate. (1) this past few days we are having bumper crowds 5000 plus. (2) And as for rides you forget movieworld is like Universal studios a movie theme park not a thrill park for rides if you went to Movieworld and did all the shows including the new matrix show you wouldnt have time to fit all the rides in. why do you think universal in florida built a seperate thrill park IOA for rides instead of joining to what they all ready have. I really feel the local park community down under has to understand that there are many types of parks from your thrill parks to your theme parks. and rollercoasters arent the only good rides out there ride indy or soarin over california and you will see what I mean thrill parks six flags knotts cedar point Ioa dreamworld theme parks disney sea world movie world universal
  3. isint it funny that in are australian parks, you cant take cameras on rollercoasters, yet when i went to america, i took my video camera on nearly every rollercoaster i went on......GOLIATH..COLLOSSUS...PHYCLONE...FLASHBACK..CALIFORNIA SCREAMING....BIGTHUNDER..SPACEMOUNTAIN...MATTERHORN MOUNTAIN..the only ride at disney that i wasnt allowed to film was on mailliboomer....only x and deja vu are u not allowed to at sixflags magic mountain. just a little info for everyone..my two centts worth. although saying that...when i went back to america this year there were no cameras allowed on any of the big rides at knotts berry farm, but last year i did.
  4. from 8 years of yearly visits to california. stay at a anaheim hotel as all the hotels in that area offer tours to sfmm Also knotts is only 10mins away from disney and there is a shuttle from the hotels. plus staying in anaheim is good as you wont need a car as all the parks are close plus Down town Disney and The Block (awesome shopping/entertainment area if you need anymore advice just PM me Ian
  5. Yeah, your best bet would be a hotel for SFMM - it's an hour or so out of LA. There's a Best Western a few minutes' walk from the park. I know that's where we're staying. One hotel should do well for both Disney and Knotts. If they don't offer shuttle buses from the hotel to both parks, then public transport isn't too difficult, particularly for these touristy things (expensive though). Remember if you rent a car (we're not - it's just not cost effective unless you have 4+ people to split the costs), you'll be paying for parking at most parks, which makes public transport even more enticing.
  6. As for how long to spend at each park, well, I've only been to the DLR, as my intense 4 day park stopover in LA turned into a 3 day vomiting experiment with only one day to do the parks. In my experience, I say one day at each park is enough. When I went, I got a 1-day hopper pass for both parks, and was able to see just about everything that interested me in one single day. The only thing I missed was Soarin', which was my fault as I got a fastpass for Mulholland Madness instead for some unknown reason. As for must do attractions at the parks, well, just about everything at DL and most of DCA is worth a look. Indiana Jones is a must, along with all the 'classic' disney attractions (Splash Mountain, Pirates, Jungle Cruise etc.). If your short on time, I'd probably reccomend missing Innoventions, HIStA, and pretty much the whole of Tomorrowland. At DCA, make sure you check out Cali Screamin', Soarin' (from all reports) and Grizzly River Rapids.
  7. Rabid Disney, Nightshifter isn't gunna learn about the industry if he doesn't comment or ask questions is he? Way to shatter confidence. I agree too though that the park people probaly don't know what there on about but good on ya for doing some reasearch, intresting anyway. The whole ponit of forums is to share and discuss info and you can take away whatever you like from it. Your not going to learn anything unless you say anyhting are you? Shaun
  8. posted by Nightshifter Dude learn the industry before commenting on it! I work for Warner Village theme parks and how can SW, WnW and MW compete when they are the same company thats why there is a thing called a 3 park superpass. Also the Parks CEO has a great Relationship with DW CEO and beleve it or not the only competition at the top is friendly. similar to the local relationship of Knotts and Disney in California why compete when all the tourist have come to the same area. As for Wonderland do you really thing they are going to give a 100% date of the next ride to some body they dont know "outside of the industry circle" parks like to surpise people with there next attraction and never release the information till at least 6 months before projects opening just look at the USA for this, December they annouce plans for a coaster May they open. (Unless its a long project like TOT at disney which takes more then 6 months) I hope this clear things up. And if there are new attractions for the parks next christmas dont look for any news till at least July
  9. I would be inclined to agree that yes an indoor type coaster could be quite viable within the park and could probably be quite easily mixed in with the circus theming. Something like rail chase could have been perfect and could even have been combined both in and outdoors as the initial sections of the ride would have generated little noise with the later sections contained inside. Something to also be noted is a coaster with this style of vehicle (single cars as opposed to a large train) would generate a lot less human noise as you don't have that mass of people at once that you get with something like cyclone. I am also very eager to see the River Caves re-introduced, probably more so than another coaster. Ever since they opened the pervious Luna Park incarnation there were plans to build it but it never eventuated. I think something with a bit more thrill than the original would go great. My thoughts would be something in the style of Pirates at Disney as this is an indoor ride with still some great drops etc. Obviously the theming wouldn't be quite as outlandish but it could still be done well. All of this is great however IMO the best thing about Luna Park is the original stuff like the Rotar and Coney Island, was never much interested in the 'carnival' type rides.
  10. Unless they're different dinosaurs (in the first cave, right?), they've been there for over a year now. What they did was stuck a few remaining figures from Creature Cruise in the cave to the sides, and it goes pretty well with the loud noises of growling and galeforce winds and thunder and everything, and strobe lights to add the lightning. Nonetheless, it's a pretty good way to add some more fun to an already pretty decent (and certainly popular) ride. The elephants still look worn out, and the old clunky photography equipment is still decaying over near the elephants (they went digital quite a while back, and now take the photos in the station). Cleaning and repairing I'd say are by all means maintenance. There's no way you can do this effectively (well there is, but we're talking old-school Disney budgets ). Now, pray that they're replacing the wheels on the train while they're at it, and Cyclone might be able to return to some of its former glory (saying that like it's a 20 year old ride that's no longer one of the central attractions). Gum Tree Gully and Rivertown, where the maintenance is going on would have to be my favourite section of the park. I'd love some life to be brought back to some of the old shops, many of which aren't used anymore, but let's hope they don't go overboard and ruin the pleasant feel of the area. There is a series of walkways connection the islands, which is what's seen on the old maps. I'm assuming that they're for staff access etc., as anyone that remembers the old Captain Sturt shows will remember the series of scenes, which would have required the same actors to move very quickly from place to place to keep ahead of the boat. Still, you're very correct in that there is quite a lot of room to spare, but the bridges you see aren't new, and there are some docks etc. that would be used for scenery more than anything. Walk around to the wildlife park some time via Gum Tree Gully (past the Billabong Restaurant), and you'll see the bridges you're talking about.
  11. Just in case my figure earlier causes any trouble, it's actually only 1.83 times taller than Space Probe. It's 119m (390ft) to 65m (213ft). So yes, we are talking significantly higher. They all look the same when they're in a photograph with a bright blue sky backdrop, and it's really quite difficult to realise actually how big Giant Drop is. I assure you if you've not ridden Giant Drop, that it is high, and you most certainly do sense the difference when you're up there. -Richard, looking forward to riding Disney-MGM's Tower of Terror. Awesome theming, multiple drops and seatbelt seats!
  12. I'd love to see something like that done. It doesn't take an idiot to realise that Dreamworld's original layout was inspired (stolen from) Disneyland, but they did make it significantly smaller. You'd certainly fit an attraction like Disneyland's (Tom Sawyer's Island), but it wouldn't be as big. I'd insist that Dreamworld keep most of the gum trees on the island - not only would it be a total shame to loose the serenity of that area to a cheap steel playground/adventure area, but it'd be a very cool thing to have hidden among the trees. Also, I'm not sure that Dreamworld's got an active enough ride development department that'd really do well with a ride like that. Sure, you'll find plenty of booths at IAAPA selling off-the-shelf, but I'm not sure you'd get anything as good as Disney's without having the internal infrastructure to fully develop the attaction properly and well.
  13. Sorry, my fault But I reckon a good expansion would be to create some type of island adventure kind of like Disney anaheim, get where i mean? It's at F3 of this map i have attacthed! I have personally been to DIsney Anaheim and i must say that the isalnd that you get to by boat is some good family fun!
  14. I was going for in general but I suppose it would be better if you have ridden it. Keeping that in mind the best coaster i've ridden is Space Mountain in Euro Disney. Excellent themeing, triple inversion and the best launch sequence ever! For a coaster that I havent ridden it would have to be Jokers Jinx/ Poltergeist. They both look awesome. But any of the Busch Gardens coasters or IOA coasters would be awesome as well
  15. At Euro Disney thhe Indy is a backwards coaster. Which ain't bad
  16. Thats really bad news for Disney I supose. Since they have such a good reputation comparing them to other parks. I agree there would most probably be lawsuits flying from every direction. But from what I can remember visiting Disneyland ( Paris ). From being there the whole and looking at Big Thunder Mountain the ride had a big down time at some stage. But at least I got to have my turn on the ride.
  17. Richard is right, (great use of statistics too) Based on my maths, Thunder Mountain has a rough capacity of near 1900 an hour. Presume that the ride operates for an average 10 hours a day, then that's 19000 per day. 365 days in a year make 6,916,000 per year. The ride has been open since 1979, (23 years) which makes roughly (very roughly) 159,068,000 riders overall. Therefor: The odds of dying on BTMRR are 1 in 159 million. Not bad odds if you ask me. Having said that, I do think Disney needs to get on top of its maintenance before something happens on Matterhorn.
  18. Missed me by just over a week :| I'll be interested to hear how this one plays out, but from the early signs, it doesn't look good for Disney. I feel sorry for the guy and his family though, it must be a really hard way to loose a family member.
  19. Yeah the fastpass system in use at Disney is great. The only think we lined up for when we were there was Splash Mountain (unfortunately at 70mins) but other than that next to no wait at all with fastpass... Even 75 wasn't bad on a day where SM got up to 180!! Its also clever how they manage your alocation on the passes and how the two lines are merged at the ride.
  20. Sounds like you had a great day! I have to give you credit, I was pretty proud of myself for hitting disney all in a day but you managed to do mosty of BOTH parks, congrats! (I did however wind up there on the last day of spring break :-) ) I'm glad to hear you say that about Jungle Cuise, I think you might have had the same guy we did...for something I went on just because it had no line it turned into a terrific ride. Did you guy go for a cheesy disco moment as his sang the tune to The Hustle by any chance?? Indy (temple of the 4 hour line) I agree is amazing. Sadly I don't think we'll ever see a $100mil attraction down under. Best gem I found on this was the single rider que...NO WAIT I agree with Honey I Shrunk the Audience however the best bit is when you drop and you realise the whole theatre is 1 huge motion base...2nd only the the 'drop' on backdraft. You said it all about grisley and cal scremin. Best thing is the clever station design...awsome capacity.
  21. Cool, I've started a fight 8) Thing is, I'm not a thrill person, and I'm normally the first to reccomend seeing the shows, sideshows and the like. Perhaps it was because it was eating into my time at DL, but nothing at DCA seemed to shout out to me. As for those who defend the park by saying its young: I didn't pay full price to find the park not finished. I will however praise the park on a few things to show I'm not completly one sided on this. 1. Most of the rides are of a very high capaticy. I've never seen a roller coaster queue move so fast as on Cali. Screaming. 2. The park is in areas, quite well themed. 3. The park was clean, the staff were friendly, and the food which I had was ok. 4. The Electric Light Parade (ripped from Disney Land) was probably the highlight of the trip. It was true Disney Magic at its best, and certaintly, was worth the time to wait for a good spot. Like I say, the park wasn't all bad, but weighing it all up, in my opinion (and remember, it is my opinion), I didn't like the park. It was ok, but I found myself wanting to go back to DL as soon as I could.
  22. amen to that I just got back from DCA and I love the place sure its doesnt have loads of rides right now but its new. and Joz did you do the good attractions like muppets, bug lifes and california screamin thats where the disney magic happens. this was the 3rd time I had been to DCA and have to say to anyone out there who visits a park for the 1st time make sure you do every ride and attraction in the park before judging the park. I love Disney and this comes for someone who works at movieworld loves movieworld and IMO things Movieworld still has alot to do before it can even be considered anything like DCA. I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip Joz but please go on anything in the parks before making judgements on them. And for all other members here remember there is more to a park then coaster make sure you guys enjoy attractions as well.
  23. Just to clarify I wasn't specificaly replying to you Richard, just yours happend to be the post before mine, no attack or anything :-) I wouldn't say the number of attractions is low, perhaps the RIDE count could be considered low but there are definately a lot of attractions there. I admit I thought it quite low on the count and pretty poor before I actualy went there, but the actual park changed my mind a lot. Also I think you'd agree that if you looking for pure thrills then Disney isn't for you. Their parks a something different with some thrills thrown in but not the only piece of the pie. Just look at Disney Land, you can't really get a better 'theme' park than that and its certainly no thrill land. DCA has got a 'full package' IMO, I don't think its really intended solely as thrill park. My take on it was that it is just something with more variety than its heavily Disney themed neighbour, where as IOA is a ride park... IMO the layout of the park is not so much as incomplete but just well laid out as to alow for much future expansion and additions. I hope you enjoy it...I certainly look forward to getting over to IOA in 2005.
  24. If I were following everyone else with regards to my opinion on DCA, I probably wouldn't have set aside three days for the Disneyland Resort - that's going to work out to being at least a day at DCA. It is a very nice looking park, and I am looking forward to it. And, you must admit, Disney's California Adventure's number of attractions is low. As I always say, I'm all for seeing shows or general non-ride attractions at parks, and I'm well aware that they are an integral part of a park, however this site is Total Thrills - I'm here for thrills, just as I'm at parks for thrills. If I can fill an entire day just riding rides, then I'm having fun. It's when you start looking for the shows etc. to fill in some time that you know the park is a bit short. And every other Disney park to date could be considered to have opened with the "full package" - with more than enough entertainment for at least a day (or the case of Walt Disney World, a week or two). And you need not look any further than Islands of Adventure (whose budget wasn't terribly much more than DCA's) to see that a park can be built from scratch into a thrill ride paradise, of which I haven't heard a single complaint ever. I don't see any need to defend a park. If there are problems, (and certainly in your post you by no means consider the park perfect ) I know I'll come out and say what they are. I know I've kicked up some fuss here because of my frankness about some of our parks. I'll also gladly say what I think is good about a given park. For any Australian park, I could give you a genuine good thing I like about it, as well as a genuine bad point.
  25. Okay as someone who visited DCA only a short time ago I really must come to its defence here. I quite easily spent an entire day and night at DCA without running out of things to do (is there a rule that you can't ride something more than once??). The park works extremely well because unlike Disney Land the paths and walkways a nice and wide and can carry a lot of people without bottle-necking. You have to remember how young this park is, name another park that opening with this many attractions, none of which is a dud???? The addition of Tower of Terror soon will only re-enforce this. BTW that thing is HUGE! California Screaming isn't even close to the same category as lethal weapon...a stock standard SMALL vekoma SLC 'vs' a custom Intamin monster than packs a punch from go to stop. Grisley is easily the best themed most exciting Rapids ride I've come across. Then you've got the other attractions like Millionaire, Sorin` and Muppets. Did any of you even bother to look at these since they weren’t coasters? Sorin' over Ca is amazing, really cool technology. And lastly is the Aladdin show, as someone who works in the business I can tell you that the show would be amazing if it was on broadway let alone as a FREE show that runs every day several times a day in a theme park. Come on guys...stop playing sheep and bashing a park because everyone else does. I will keep the opinion that I always have that you can't judge a park/ride/whatever until you've actually been there. Same goes for certain people who keep bashing Vekoma and praising Intamin or B&M when they haven't even been on one of their coasters. ::end of rant
