Yeah thats the spot. pretty sure the old buildings were HWSD service facilities as the EVOs were stored out there a lot of the time. Pretty sure the new building was intended for float storage or something - it's got a pretty high clearance. I had thought they'd build that next to the service facility on the grass (I haven't been to the park in a while) but Skeets image shows they replaced one with the other so the effects \ pyro area looks like it's still intact for now. -

The shed was built on this grassed area behind the arena, but I haven’t seen any up to date satellite images that show its full scale and whether it’s replaced these smaller buildings seen @DaptoFunlandGuy are these the buildings you refer too? Otherwise does anyone know what they are/were used for? -

Is it still possible though? Didn't they build a big shelter \ workshop right out behind the arena where the effect systems were? -

Of course part of the payment was lost revenue. Some of the payment was also from the Vintage Cars that was never repaired and before people say but DW rebuilt the Vintage Cars. MM was announced and costed before the storms. -

Risk was not the main driver here. In a pandemic recovery period, every significant financial decision was being scrutinised. Unfortunately timing and cost played a key factor in the effects demise. That's also not to say it wouldn't or couldn't return in the future if its creatively considered essential to the new show. In that instance the reinstatement would become a capital cost to the project verse, general R&M. -

There would have been equivalent indirect expenses in FY24 and lose of revenue associated with this payout however. Its not a silver bullet... There would also be risk associated with the claim regarding impacts on the premium. Which they also appear to have done a pretty reasonable job at reducing their premiums in the corporate spend space. - Yesterday

No, people are getting excited that the care and attention the current management have given the park is having a positive effect on the bottom line which in turn will encourage them to show more care and attention to the park. -

Tiger Island is a shadow of its former self. Every time I walk through it, there is one tiger pacing at the back gate. -
Tiger Island Redevelopment - STAGE 1
themagician replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Not sure how long this has been the case, but DW have reintroduced the Tiger Island presentation in the form of a 'Keeper Talk' daily at 12:30pm. Has anyone had the chance to check this out yet? Obviously with the removal of handler and tiger interactions, there won't be anyone on the island and I assume it will just be someone with a microphone at the bottom of the seating discussing tigers and what the DWF does. Will be interesting to know if they have set anything else to help entice the tigers to show off their natural behaviours like they used to during the presentations. -

Well I mean as recently as six years ago Dreamworld was a dump, losing shitloads of money and could have easily been sold off and pulled down for housing. Needless to say they’ve come a long way since 2016 we all knew it would take a long time for Dreamworld to win back the trust of the public, even nine years later it’s still not fully there. Take the little wins i am happy there are still 4 parks on the coast. -

You need to find out what the ticket yield actually is. Eg a 3 park escape pass is $169, so that's already yielding only $56 Things like annual passes, if they spend $299 and visit every 2 months, the yield becomes $49 Im not sure how many one day ($109) tickets they would be selling to get the average yield up to $80.

Another example of using an effect ' because it was there ' - pretty certain the fireball effect was the same effect used when the helicopter crashed in PASS. Yeah it was the lower door being referenced here - As Shack said - in later iterations, the brick wall was replaced by what looked like a vinyl sheet with an image printed on it. Which would still be fine except the sheet wasn't attached to anything (not even velcro) at the bottom so it would blow back and forth in the breeze, ruining the finale effect (and also providing a view backstage where one could see the car staging into position before the end) -

When it first launched and for quite a few years after that, it would crash through a set of fake bricks, that formed a wall that hid the hole. Show Techs would have to rebuild this after every show. -
It was an example of projection mapping done properly though. The river scene projected on the sand was magic.

The jump car was never recertified, that put an end to that ever being put back in use with a new show. It was still there, mitsubishi lancer body and all up until a few years ago. The fireball was fine for a very, very long time into the new show. Neglect and the fact that it was a major project to remove and replace pneumatic components hidden inside the wall and overhaul the control system that triggered it is what put an end to it. Risk aversive fun police put the brakes on anything remotely dangerous (even in a controlled setting). I don't remember the jump car crashing through walls though? I remember the "launch" side was a fake poster looking curtain that hid the launch ram and the "landing" side was a doorway, made it look like it was the opening to an alfresco. It was a frame with half a fibreglass shell that was bolted to a carriage a lot like a coaster car. There was a curved section of track it ran along below the wall. Not sure they would have wanted anything nearby that could fall onto the track/into the wheels. I'm probably wrong, but was there something in the lower door opening at one stage? between the barn doors that swung open and the same drop style curtain currently in use where the polaris jumps through? -

Plus the car jump and fire ball were expensive, which is what they are no longer part of the show. If I remember correctly, the car that was ‘jumping’ would ‘smash’ through foam bricks to add to the effect and they would have to rebuild the wall between shows, but that didn’t last long before of the time and effort it took.
