  1. Now you've had me questioning my entire being! Older rides such as Cheeta Hunt have brake fins (https://twitter.com/bioreconstruct/status/1031294166205169664, even the newer ones (eg Velocicoaster) have them (eg https://youtu.be/hoh3kR-5BsA?t=808). Had to search for some photos/video. It doesn't look like there are as many as is on a hydraulic launch, so I guess that the LSM's do indeed provide some breaking force, even in the event of a power outage. They do look like completely different fins to me (VC ones look brass/copper) when comparing to my memory of Supermans' fins for example.

  2. Some simple math on that (more variations 100% at play but lets roll with it) TTD - 193km/h in 3 seconds - 1.82g TTD - 193km/h in 3.8 seconds (seen this reported) - 1.437g TTD - 193km/h in 4 seconds (seen this reported) - 1.365g Xcellerator - 132km/h in 2.3 seconds (37% slower top speed, 26% quicker time) - 1.623g MaxxForce - 125km/h in 2 seconds (42% slower top speed, 33% quicker time) - 1.768g Superman - 100km/h in 2 seconds (63% slower top speed, 33% quicker time) - 1.414g For additional reference to your Air Launch comment: Do-dodopa is 0-180km/h in 1.6 seconds - 3.2g (since 2017) Do-dodopa is 0-172km/h in 1.8 seconds - 2.7g (pre-2017)

  3. Thats really interesting. I hear a lot of enthusiasts claim Xcelerator as the superior ride but I suspected there is a bit of favouritism at play. I haven’t ridden either personally but both are on my bucketlist

  4. It’s all good, happy to hear an opinion. I guess to answer your point we are all a little like sheep in following what others do. Then of course is children peer pressure ‘but mum why can’t I?’ And you don’t have good enough answers to stop a grumpy and very persistent child. Especially when it’s being crawled over by other children in front of them. I guess that’s why roping it off, or maybe even having an attendant would have been better. Anyway, that’s just my thoughts as yours are yours. Back to my parenting (brilliant or not) duties 😉

  5. What im finding the weirdest about this is that the prices are being advertised as USD. It's a cruise originating in these 2 countries and returning to these 2 countries. Why not use their currency?

  6. So you recognised as a parent that it wasn't something that should be climbed on, but decided because there wasn't a sign or because there wasn't other playgrounds that it was fine? I would never ever say this to you in real life, so feel free to dismiss this as gutless anonymous internet trolling (which in may ways it is), but that's not a brilliant display of parenting. I can almost garuentee that if you weren't there, you too would be denouncing the quality of parenting and posting eye roll reactions on Facebook. If your account is genuine, I'm sure you're actually a great mum, and a wonderful person, but I can't really get away from this being a parenting issue rather than a DW issue. Again, keep in mind that there is no way in hell I'd say any of this in person, and a good rule of thumb is to ignore people who talk shit on the internet. It's why I don't go on twitter 😊

  7. To be fair you’re loading in a lot of assumptions to reach that conclusion, including an assumption that somehow Red Force tried and failed to beat Dragster (the reality is Port Aventura wanted to have Europe’s tallest and fastest coaster, and Intamin designed a solution that achieved those specs). Comparing modern LIMs to Tower of Terror’s LSMs, they use roughly a third the electrical input for twice the kinetic force output. That’s not bad for two decades of innovation, and I’m sure it’s continued to mature over time too.

  8. I haven't been on a DCL ship yet, but from my experience on other cruise ships and what I've researched, Disney is in a league of its own with their family-orientated cruise ships. Their dedication to family entertainment and experiences once onboard is just something you don't get with other cruise lines so I can definitely see this being popular. There is going to be a lot grandparents spoiling their grandkids this Christmas haha. Cost is pretty extreme compared to other lines, but considering that if you want a Disney experience you need to go overseas, for some people this will be their best opportunity to get a proper Disney holiday. Remember - that price includes entertainment from morning to night, food, and a whole assortment of other additions. You pay a fortune on those things on a regular holiday on top of accommodation and travel so I see this as being fairly reasonable compared to the usual 'Australia Tax' we pay for less. Whilst touted as temporary, I highly doubt this will be last time we see DCL in Australia. Disney has been trying to tap the Australian market for decades but hasn't been able to stick the landing. This is a perfect way to get the thousands of dollars that they want from wealthy Australians without the investment of permanent infrastructure.

  9. Given TTD is widely said to have a less forceful launch than eXcelerator anyway, does that mean TTD is more about the total top speed and height anyway so the launch system matters less? Given the above I’d be sad to see xcel closed/changed because that launch is proper mental.

  10. We’re saving for a family trip to Disneyland, which would be a first for my wife and son. This would be a fantastic intro close to home, but at those 2 nights would cost more than the return flights to LA. so out of range of most families
