Yeah Joz, how dare you, who do you think you are anyway?
-
Well, back in 08, a Gerstlauer spinning coaster was purchased for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for a reported $6.5 million. So, I suppose one of those is possible. I hope not, but it is possible.
-
It's not as far fetched as you may think. Sure, the land was cleared, and yes the distance is quite far from the rest of the park, but having said that though, it is also possible that the old Blue Lagoon area becomes the "land" where the ride station, shop and queue house are located, with the the ride (assuming it's some sort of big rollercoaster) travels out to that area. Pure speculation though, but it's not as far fetched as it sounds.

Ghostrider can be an example of what happens if the ride isn't maintained. When it opened, it was up there, not quite so much these days though.

I agree with DJ there. It's actually in a lot of ways the opposite. I don't want to come across as ignorant (wait, yes I do, otherwise I wouldn't be saying it) but most important jobs do require people to work outside of "Business Hours". For instance, if it wasn't for people like me working 24/7, you wouldn't be able to enjoy Television, if it wasn't for the Journalist's working throughout the Graveyard shift, your morning paper you get delivered will suddenly disappear, you starting to get the idea? But back on topic, as has already been said, just because the park is closed, doesn't mean everyone goes home. Ops may close, but there is always so much more to a park than what you see.

And an update, for those following this, it appears the slides will not be installed for the 2010/2011 Summer season, with a Development Application due to be closed for public consultation on November 26. I know there was some concern over where they would fit the slides in, well this DA appears to clear it all up for us. > http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/topics/your_s...DE5MDk5JmFsbD0x

Not a whole lot can be done about that unfortunately.

Ahh, this takes me back. The links are dead because I decided to killed the site (and it's brother) off. What I can't believe that Defunction was from 2005 though, damn has time flown. Sure doesn't feel like it has been that long since I ran those sites. Thanks for posting the Wayback links, what a great trip that was!

Sea World 2010 (Castaway Bay & Antarctic Penguins)

Their marketing strategy at the moment appears to be pushing the company "VIP Pass", I am still seeing a massive amount of "VIP" pass commercials being pushed out across the various television markets in QLD, NSW and Victoria. Maybe they see more value in pushing the VIP passes for as long as they can before they start pushing the new attractions? The VIP spots I have seen don't really make any mention of any of the new attractions as of yet. I expect to start seeing new attraction adverts for the Christmas period, but your guess is as good as mine. -
It seems great, and with the excellent and well known brand name that is Wet n Wild, I can see the public getting behind this venture should it not go the way of the Dodo. It's in a decent location and easily accessible by Road, and there is plenty of expansion opportunity should they desire to expand.

Imax for me, whilst the variety of films might not be great, I do love a good Imax film, and those guys up there work hard to make sure the show does go on.

I think what Spotty is trying to say is that at least V8's upcharge is well done when it comes to it's theme, sure it might not be in the right themed land, but at least the inside and the attraction itself is themed adequately. Personally, it wouldn't be that hard to make the attraction fit the Ocean Theme, just change the race to the Gold Coast track and theme it appropriately.

Bid to create Coomera 'Jurassic World'
T-bone replied to themeparkgc's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'll put it this way, I've lived here for 10 years and have many fond memories of visiting Canberra well before we moved here, and I've personally never been to the Dinosaur Museum. I have heard in a recent discussion that it is quite lame. I'll put it this way, I pass the place on the way to work everyday, there is often a coach parked there, but I have never seen the carpark overflowing. -
WnW 2010: Aqua Loop, Flowrider, Zipline, Skycoaster
T-bone replied to Intamin's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The Flowbarrel is actually quite cool, I have seen one in action, very impressive. One would hope Wet n Wild would attempt to differentiate themselves with the competition and install a Flowbarrel over a Flowrider. Only time will tell. -
Actually no, that's not a Caravan Park, I can see what your referring to though, it is a Market of some sort in the Shopping Centre Carpark.

So I went for a visit to the site today. They are removing the Kid slide which in the Google Maps picture posted above, the slide being removed is directly below the Slide Tower slides, and lands in the small pool thats connected to the main pool. Again, sorry for the bad pictures, it was an unexpected trip.
-
For someone that doesn't actually know the two attractions in question, yes it is hard to tell, so i will have to take your word for it Gaz. I do wonder where they will be putting these slides in, but I am putting my money on it going into the picnic plot next to the main building, directly opposite the main splashdown pool for the main slides.

It was originally a Council/ Government Swimming pool years ago minus the slides, then was sold to a private owner to be run as a "Waterpark". Obviously isn't exactly Wet 'n' Wild or anything, and for obvious reasons isn't open in Winter. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...mp;t=h&z=19 Yep, I know what your thinking.

And here we go. Sorry for the delay everyone, attached are some photo's I took of Twister and dare I say Speedcoaster's new home in Canberra. Enjoy.
-
I have made the trip out there (why did it have to be raining?) and I am able to now confirm that we are indeed at-least looking at the Twister. It's hard to tell if we are also looking at the Speed-coaster, but at the very least I can confirm that we have the Twister. There are a lot of slide pieces around, so it wouldn't surprise me if we also had the Speed-coaster down here, but at this stage I was only able to locate the one slide tower. Pictures to come.
-
It was actually the speed coaster bit to the left of the photograph which made me think "Hey, that looks familiar". And ofcourse the fact that the colour scheme for the slides is overly familiar. It does have me wondering though, if these slides aren't coming back to our gratious Wet n Wild, how can they still be listed as attractions on the Wet n Wild Website? I will however try to get out to the pool on Wednesday and try to get some decent photo's of the area for everyone to gawk at.

Hey folks. Quick Q for you that are following this, are these two slides (or what's visible) still on site or have they disappeared? Reason I ask is because Big Splash Waterpark in Canberra appears to be getting some new slides (well new to the park). There is a low quality picture here -> http://the-riotact.com/?p=21965 The original poster of the picture seems to be under the belief that the slide/s are the old Black Hole slide from El Cabello Blanco, but I beg to differ. Without checking out the site myself (I may do so in a few days or so), is there any chance that these slides are the old Speedcoaster and or Twister, or are they still on site at WNW ruling this theory out?

I don't know, I am kinda looking forward to riding Top Deck Flight Gun (or is it Flight Deck?)
-
I was there on Tuesday, and on a the 3 rides we had on it, there was no audio on the boats. These were all on seperate boats also, so I am suprised to hear that the audio was functioning for you. I can forgive the pre-show not being done the way it was, I can also forgive the lack of character in the Cast Members, what was not forgivable was no audio on the boats, the numerous effects/ screens and lighting not functioning and the replacment for the fire. For the record, the fire was a great asset to the ride, however I don't care if it's gone really, as great as it was. It's replacment is what really gets me. Talking about Steam, Jet Rescue's steam effects are currently not in operation, neither are Superman's.

I seriously doubt we will be seeing anything "Major" in the new Thrill Ride Department this year, considering in a way the ride re-launch will be considered "Major" in it's own right. Building a brand new, big thrill ride this year would just drown out what will be some major capital investment into the re-launched ride this year, which would raise some serious questions from a stock holders point of view as to what the benefits of spending the money to re-launch this ride would be, considering it's just going to get over-looked with people looking towards the big new attraction instead. Yes, whilst it is disappointing that we won't be seeing a big new thrill ride this year, it is also pleasing to see one thing happen that I have been asking for quite some time now actually happen, the refurbishment and renewal of the older attractions and infrastructure that desperately need it, instead of New Attractions being built whilst everything else is left to fall to despair. Whilst there is still a long way to go in that department (Some of the Facades on Main Street need some serious work, Goldrush, Giant Drop, Cyclone) there is no doubt in my mind that the park is finally on the right track again after years of being on the wrong track, and for that I applaud them. Now all we just need to hope for is that they stay on that branch line instead of going out onto another line going in the opposite direction.
