  1. I'm seeing Affinity high on the list as an attempt to bump the current controversy off the radar a bit and give it some positive publicity.
  2. Something is definitely missing... but that's probably due to obscene language than anything not making sense. See this is kinda the point - what you have @Gazza is genius, as - from what i know - it fits the theme perfectly to do that - but the trouble is - nobody outside of the niche followers of the franchise would get it - they'd simply regard the attraction as 'dated' because it isn't the same doctor anymore. if you have to explain it, it doesn't work.
  3. and both of you got the results or came to the same conclusions which were.....?
  4. By the looks of things, they're actually flying over the ocean too, so minimal risk to the public - rescue choppers, and joy flight choppers do the same thing. this is my very vague memory of talking to the Wonderland pilot back in the day, but i think they work in an uncontrolled airspace - the pilot broadcasts his location\position and track \ route, and maintains visual of his surrounds.
  5. The latest in a long line of 'sunshine coast waterpark proposals'. When they commence construction, i'll get excited. Big Kart Track is on Steve Irwin Way too I believe - which would start to create a bit of a tourism hub - so it probably has a greater chance of success than those that build next to a townhouse site... In other news.... GOOGLE THE COVE!
  6. Yeah - the track's been there for years. Never seen it operate - must admit when i saw the proposal the other day, i thought it was a new proposal, but noticed that some rides overlapped it and couldn't figure out how they'd achieve the overlap - but of course - it is the old track. Google maps or nearmap do show parts of the track to this day, but it is well obscured by trees and scrub these days.
  7. I'm picking up from the posts above that it seems like the level of 'client care' has gone down since Mark's departure.
  8. I'd have to throw to @YLFATEEKS for underground cable locations, but given it's position on the opposite side of the ditch i'm inclined to say GL's power isn't supplied from 'inside the berm'... whereas the new coaster's main power needs will be almost opposite the JL building, and by extension - it's fair to assume when Batwing went it, it was hitched onto the same supply as JL. This, in my mind, makes sense as to why both JL and BW go down, but GL stays up. I have no factual basis, but it is a logical conclusion.
  9. So was TopGolf (actually that's CY18 - so even further away than FY18), and that got two pictures and a nice little write up about it...
  10. For those that can't get past a paywall, the article is dated January 26th, and says: Edit: AUSTLII search hasn't revealed any decision published as yet http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/nsw/NSWLEC/2017/ Most recent case published (yesterday) had it's hearing on 1 February (which was for the construction of a carport - so fairly simplistic matter) - so i'd expect that the outcome of the above issue with LPS may take a little while longer to resolve.
  11. As @Tim Dasco stated on the previous page - i think it's more likely that they had scheduled track arrival well in advance, and anticipated that groundwork would take a lot longer than it did - we were blessed (or cursed depending on your view) over the summer season with very little rain - minimal storms and bad weather meant progress on groundworks proceeded rapidly, and i'm inclined to think that that is the predominant reason for the site to sit idle. Agree that the wrap would look nasty plastered over this nice new fence, but depending on the width of the messaging, I would like to see them bring it back - and perhaps cut the wrap into sections the width of each panel\panels between each pillar. it'd add to the hype for irregular guests to see some messaging - although if the september date has been pushed already, they may not want to perpetuate that message.
  12. it wouldn't take much to unbolt a fence panel - and i think you'll find that they will probably do that at some point to build the ride.
  13. I really don't think any of our parks can afford to install something that only has a 3 year shelf life.
  14. but that's just it @Santa07 - most theming dates quickly. Scooby came out in 2002 - and you don't know it (the ride is quite true to the film). Lethal Weapon 4 was 1998 - and while the movie didn't really lend anything to the ride - it was just 'stunt driving' in the film, prologued by some car chase scenes in a theatre - it was a fitting theme (so you don't miss anything there). So generic theming is timeless. theming to an IP puts an expiry date on that theme. In addition, using IP costs licensing fees, meaning you either need more money to do it, or you cheap out on some things so you can buy the license. As I understand it - a Doctor attraction would be a nightmare, as the park would need to inject funds regularly to stay current - and then even amongst fans - which doctor do you feature? original? latest? most popular? Fact is - in arguing for IP you've also proven the case against it - ToT's theme is... who knows... but we all ride it. Why do we need to bring expensive IP into it, if we all ride it anyway?
  15. It's no Hyper skeet - but for the park the size and location that it is, to have this calibre on the drawing board is pretty cool - drop tower looks to be same as hair raiser at LPS (i think the photo IS hair raiser?), air race looks like the same as pandamonium, star fly is one we haven't seen locally - (except a traveller i think?), Windstarz looks like either a modernised paratrooper style ride, or otherwise similar to Gingy's Gliders. Putting aside the Mouse and Octopus replacements, Aerobat is the only one i'm unfamiliar with - but it looks 'enterprise-ish' so i'm sticking with that for the minute. What we've got coming to a park that by most standards is small, but growing in both popularity and size, is an array of attractions that have been successfully operated (predominantly at Dreamworld) and been popular for years. I don't want AW to blow their wad on some monster attraction and then have no money in the bank to weather the storms or follow up with the next big thing - so for the minute i'm quite happy that they've got plans for these relatively successful, diverse and appealing rides. If we saw a new one every year, without any more removals - i could see them steadily growing to a point they would be viable for bigger, more wow level attractions. all this is good news for the park, and good news for the park, is usually good news for us.
  16. I totally get that the new set up maximises viewing for everyone @Slick and I don't doubt that the view up top is fantastic - it's the division between the two. 'grass is always greener' perspective - but taking your view on it - reverse what i said previously - how would you feel if you were stuck against the fence in the corner, and didn't have the wide sweeping breathtaking view that those up top got? the separation gives the appearance that one is better than the other. if there were somehow tables going from ground floor all the way up the pit to the top, it wouldn't have that appearance. that's all.
  17. Personally - i would think much of it would be able to be stored within the same area that the footing framework was laid out. The area is already fenced, and keeping it on the same side of the driveway means less likelihood that they will need to close entry \ exit to move pieces onto the site during the day. Failing that - bottom end of AOS would be a more convenient, less congested place to store it.
  18. I found the article. I knew we discussed it. So I knew it was relevant. that is all.
  19. That looks really awkward - I mean how would you feel if you were the people up on the top step - vs. the people who literally have a front row seat? i think, it would be different in my eyes if there were tables tiered all the way up - but for the upward seating pit to be such a large gap between one row of tables and the other, it just makes the rear seats seem so much less valuable. I know it'd be hard to do with the seating the way that it is, but it wouldn't take much to design a 'front facing' seating on the grandstand - kind of the way they do it at AOS - not every row - maybe every second - slot some specially designed tables into some sort of mount designed for the purpose and you really increase your capacity for 'dinner and a show' in the venue (obviously, front facing seating probably isn't suited to Valentine's Day - but for other events that are more about the tigers \ show, and less about the 'staring into each other's eyes' bit - it would totally work) Does look like it was a good night though.
  20. It travels through time? Jesus. What rock do you live under that you'd heard of Dr Who, but not ANY of the franchises you've dot pointed? I think you're reaching to say 'at least Australians have heard of it' - amongst people I know - more people would know of at least 6 out of 7 of those dot points before Doctor Who. And if I were surveyed and asked if i'd heard of Dr Who, my answer would be yes - I have heard of it, but that wouldn't be validation of plans to build a themed land to it - i've heard of testicular cancer too - but i don't want to ride it...
