  1. So does this mean the end of the 30 June Expiry? If I choose to (i probably won't) I can rock up in October, and sign on to a twelve month contract and start paying $xx per month, and get access to FN? Or is the first year an upfront no matter what?
  2. Just because you can see a tie-in to a film, doesn't mean the ride is suited to the park. Batwing is the only completely outdoor (non-children's) attraction in the park. Every other attraction in the park has indoor sections, or indoor pre-show theming... and the ONLY reason batwing works is because it has that batwing tie-in. Saying to people 'look! here's a new ride we've themed to a movie that's 18 years old and obscure by most standards' isn't going to appeal. Saying 'make the ride circular so it fits the theme' is probably a little problematic from an engineering perspective... and keeping it square means that the tie-in is lost. Why not tie it in to the 1992 film Fortress? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106950/?ref_=nv_sr_1 It's just as obscure (no - it's more obscure) and he rides a gyro - so arguably it's just as good as a theme?
  3. Ok - I'm comfortable they've finally got the balance of things right. I like the option to include WnWS - it's a no-brainer for any Sydneysider holidaying in Gold Coast (or Vice Versa). My only issue is the low upgrade cost isn't prohibitive enough - i'd like to see the gap a little wider. Considering we're talking about 10% savings off many in-park spends - they need to make it a little harder to recoup the upgrade costs, which will encourage a higher in park per-cap spend. Even $30 to upgrade to membership ($10 per night event + all the extras free) is still VERY VERY VERY reasonable. That'd make it a $170 pass for entry to 4 parks across two states, 3 night events and discounts here there and everywhere... and I don't think $30 would be too prohibitive... Perhaps next year we'll see the gap widen, and perhaps introduce another upgrade level that includes \ excludes blackout dates... baby steps...
  4. Yeah - although Disney do have a formula they follow when designing parks - each park has it's point of difference which makes each park well worth the trip - ESPECIALLY if you're going to be there anyway!!!
  5. I cannot see any way, shape or form that this would be suitable at movie world... and I don't think Dreamworld really has an opening for that style of ride whilst Wipeout is still functioning.
  6. I'm happy to agree to disagree - i think it's a wrong move for them.... But i'll bet you - despite your calculations - that we don't get anywhere near $17m.... my bet is it doesn't go much beyond $10m...
  7. I didn't think Tbone's comments were selfish at all... it's quite realistic - VRTP continually introduces different schemes and scales June 30 every year - they keep tinkering with things. It's been discussed to death that they need to increase the price of the unlimited passes, remove the extras without additional charges, and include blackouts... and they've not only missed another opportunity - but gone even further away from where they need to be... $10? The original Gold upgrade was around $40 - and that was only WC and FN... now you get Carnivale as well, along with 'extra benefits'... Personally - I think at this point (we're now 6+ years on from the original Q150 pass) they've numbed the public. People have spent so much time there, it's boring. Yes - some people buy them every year - especially families who find it a great babysitter on a boring weekend (summer holidays - drop the kids at WnW and run!!!), but others are getting to a point where they don't bother. There's been nothing to entice people back to the parks recently (of certain demographics) - VRTP's most recent attractions have all focused on the kids areas. Now I don't deny for a second that those areas DESPERATELY needed a makeover - but they gave the grownups nothing new. Things like COTD aren't really something that will draw me back to the park JUST to see it. Likewise a new HWSD show \ script isn't going to do anything either. This (financial) year will be the second year in a row I haven't held a VIP pass... there's just nothing there to bring me back. I had planned to buy a World Pass this year instead (And those that know me fairly well know I have a pretty strong VRTP bias - so that is saying alot!) but have had other priorities come up that mean I probably wouldn't get the value out of it.. so this FY will now be the second year running that I haven't bothered to get a pass, despite how cheap they are. The point i'm trying to make is that this price point isn't going to make them MORE money... because they're eroding their existing customer base by continually giving away the gate. They need to up the price dramatically - which MIGHT see them build something awesome - but unfortunately after 6 years, people are so used to paying peanuts... so all we get is monkeys (biting people on the ear). VRTP ARE idiots (in my opinion) as they continuously give away the gate for fear of losing those cheapskates who won't pay more. The same model was the cause for the ongoing failure of WnWS - too many passes, too long spent in queues, too many angry customers. Tbone's fears will be realised if this is the direction VRTP are headed - and I feel he is fully justified in saying that. $99 + $10 = $108 $109 As said before - the original Gold VIP was $40 more expensive than standard at around $139.00... If VRTP start offering Fright Night \ Carnivale \ White Christmas tickets for $3.33 per person (thats what this appears to be really) - then i'll just buy those and be done.
  8. I have seen on occasion a period of time when TI was vacant - and the door is always left open so that when they release a tiger, there is nothing in it's way between the BOH pen and the front display pen... if something stops it (such as a closed door) it could get distracted and that may cause issues... (eg: someone needing to open the door whilst backed into a corner with 1-3 tigers!) Its possible it's just a changeover... How long has it been that way? A few minutes? An hour? All day?
  9. Ok - i've gone through to try and find what the fuck you are talking about. I still can't find where he said you didn't know what you were talking about - but given what you're currently going on about - I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. So - for your convenience, i've quoted every single post Gazza and You have made in this thread. Please show me where he said you don't know what you're talking about. Please show me where he disrespected you, insulted you, or did anything but have a healthy inquisitiveness over your comments and viewpoints \ opinions...
  10. 5 posts above mine, and 3 hours ago?
  11. 11pm? no mention of certain rides closing at certain times? Is that an ooops... or an interesting?
  12. TEN BUCKS? I appreciate they're probably trying baby steps after giving away free gold upgrades last year - but TEN WHOLE DOLLARS for access to WC, FN and Carnivale? What a joke. *Spins wheel*
  13. Hopefully they've also extended the amount of time that your $1 gets you...
  14. I think OG is using the word 'replacement' in the same way that we say Junior Driving School replaced LTRR. It occupies the same landspace (in part) as the space that was previously for the former attraction. in that sense - COTD is what replaced Wild in terms of that space... and just like JDS - isn't really up to the standard of the former attraction (or planned attraction) and wasn't a direct replacement... but I do agree jungle animals in an ocean themed park wasn't the best of ideas. Dinosaur Island - although many 'expected it' to be gone in 12 months (June'12 - June'13) it did in fact stay in the park until June'14 - or two years. COTD was always intended to be temporary, but longer term than Dinosaur Island (based on FoF information) - so i think it's safe to assume COTD will be around longer than 2 years (and the discovery trail, ranger and collector cards is a great idea to keep it 'current')... all SW needs to do to refresh it is release a 'new set' of cards, and suddenly it's a whole new attraction for card collectors again... Anyone who is unaware of the impact these card collections can have needs to visit Woolworths and Coles facebook pages when they've got those items on a promo. People go NUTSO SKITSO for them. I've seen a BOX of Jamie's Garden cards sell for $150... for something people get FOR FREE \ With Purchase. Sea World are GIVING THESE AWAY (and giving you even more when you spend $20 in an outlet). Finally the Marketing Mystery Wheel has landed on a good idea....
  15. Shitcanneddeadburiedfinitonot happening#whatplanetareyoulivingon? Isn't TL:DR "Too Long: Didn't Read" ? Seems like you read all of it based on your answer.... As for reasons why - They ran a focus group AFTER they began construction \reclamation works, and the focus group were shown two proposals - the first being Sea World's land reclamation deal, with an elevated walkway going through the middle for guests to look down on the animals (which were intended to be real, not animatronic). The second option, and one which - from what i've heard was overwhelmingly more popular was to use the land at the back of AOS to create a 'Disney's Animal Kingdom' type open-plains park, with attached guest lodge \ hotel, night-time tribal stage performances etc - which would also give the animals far more 'natural' habitat, than the cramped and enclosed edge of Sea World's already cluttered parkland. And I think - although they didn't end up following through - the response to option 1 killed Wild (as it was at Sea World) in favour of the much more extravagant option two. Perhaps further down the track when VR has a little more support (and opportunities for those animals) they might begin work on that project again... but for the moment - see points 1 through 6 above...
  16. For the love of god.... why can't people put a link to the original source article? Gotta love Sky News Australia - claiming the incident occurred in the 'theme park' despite referring to the filming location... apparently 'in the park'. Clearly it's an animal on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean. http://news.sky.com/story/1510538/woman-bitten-by-monkey-at-theme-park Yahoo7 is a little less inflammatory and a little more factual. I'm assuming this is the article Cooper has quoted above... https://au.news.yahoo.com/qld/a/28618522/woman-attacked-by-monkey-in-queensland/ Surprisingly this article which doesn't appear to be a reputable news source appears to be the best and most factual: http://www.pedestrian.tv/news/entertainment/woman-hospitalised-after-monkey-bite-on-the-pirate/18804526-8ee5-48e5-ae49-8f17a6b3c44d.htm The award for mainstream factual reporting goes to ABC with this VERY detailed account - revealing whilst it may have been a 'Pirates' Monkey, it wasn't on the Pirates set - but another set also being shot at the studios... I'll give props to the first outlet that actually correctly identifies the incident location as 'Village Roadshow Studios' (I'm pretty sure that's what it is called unless it's changed recently...?) http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-06-30/monkey-bites-woman-at-movie-world-gold-coast/6583930 We all know how good the UK Sky News arm reports after the Smiler incident - so it's not surprising in the slightest for them to just say 'at Theme Park'. nice one Sky News UK https://uk.news.yahoo.com/woman-attacked-monkey-theme-park-045450513.html#AuGJVMX
  17. OG - chinese and oriental food stalls are a great idea if the area were to stay 'Chinese' themed... but unfortunately there isn't really anywhere to put them - the Alleyway isn't really wide enough to have more than a food cart - and even then it would severely congest the area. You need to remember that all those shopfronts in the alleyway are nothing more than facade - and there is more going on behind most of it than it would appear. Likewise - the buildings bounding the Arkham courtyard contain the scooby and superman indoor sections. the only direction they can move is towards the Arkham queue (old LW theatre) and towards the Arkham Helix (old LW photo store). When you look at it that way, there isn't much room besides the actual courtyard area...
  18. Very sad news, but I really dislike media portraying this: So the lawyer for the person injured obviously has a great insight inside the mind of Alton's management, engineers and the accident investigators... no - of course not. he only said 'may never'. I'll say it too - Smiler 'may never' have another accident ever and will be forever known as worlds greatest and safest coaster.... At least nobody died - then they'd have to close it like they did with Big Thunder... #ohwait...
  19. Yeah - I appreciate the keenness, but you're just regurgitating other peoples material (both articles and photos) in all of your contributions so far. You should give credit \ provide a link to any article you've posted, and if the article isn't your own, you should also enter it in Quote tags. You're presenting this sort of stuff (both the ABC kids world and the Buzzsaw news) as if it was breaking news we didn't know about... if you'd taken the time to read through previous posts you'd realise that not only did we know about it already - we've talked about it long enough for the topic to derail and drift into many other varied and useless side-discussions. My point is - you're several months late to be reporting stuff as 'news'
  20. did it have an old-woman-who-lived-in-a-shoe Shoe?
  21. Concept drawings are always going to be a little more detailed and creative - the artist always has the artistic license to jazz things up a little more than the budget allows. As money pours out the door, things start to get sacrificed. I think the level of detail inside SE is great for what it is, and has the seal of approval from many different people \ groups as being one of the best of it's kind. I think the photo Zanstabar just posted above (quoting Santa) is actually looking towards the station \ load zone, whereas the first photo Santa posted was a different section entirely. hard to tell, but i think the 'unnatural lighting' Zanstabar referred to is definitely load zone.
  22. ^you must live in a parallel universe where Dreamworld has high capacity attractions that are fully staffed and open all the hours that the park is...
