Something that's always nagged on me at WnW is that the 'loader' usually admits the next rider raft guest when the previous rider has exited the splashdown chute. This works well for WWM because it's a fair spacing and a big pool for people to move around in, but for rides like constrictor that have a long run-out chute, it takes time for the raft to gently float it's way down to the unloader. It also takes time for people to get out of those rafts and it isn't always the most graceful exit. If the loader is holding the next raft until that person clears, it's adding time unnecessarily - imagine instead of the moment the raft cleared the tube, and hit the run-out, the loader gives the green light... by the time the first raft is lifted out of the chute, the second one has landed. For those who want to cite a safety issue - the rafts hit resistance the moment they land in the splashdown, they are slowed immediately, and i've not seen one raft get more than 2 or 3 metres from the tube at speed. If the unloader is having issues with people who are slow to get out or need assistance, the next raft is going to gently float its way closer. At worst - it'd be a bouncebump when they finally meet, but no injury or issue could forseeably come from it. I'd like to see an efficiency expert come through wet n wild and actually calculate the safe distances between loads on those slides. Hell - if you look back at the old footage from cade's or from sea world, multiple riders were doing down at ones, some in a conga line!

If i'd enjoy it because i'd spend half the time looking at the rigging - thats a fair point... but unfortunately, I'm not the only one who would be there...

Thanks guys. Wow - a lot more suggestions for vegas than I expected... I'd expected to get more for LA. To answer a few things - The LVH is off strip, but it does have a monorail running up to the strip so we don't need to jump a cab (not to mention we also have the rental car as well). We've had a few people say to go for 'on the strip' as well as arrive without reservations, but we'd rather know where we're going, what we're paying and be assured its sorted before we fly halfway around the world. As for the 80's reference - I didn't get that vibe in my research, and it was only refitted a few years back... A half day at knotts? Really? Well theres about 100 days to go until we're there... time for more research... and keep the suggestions coming!

I'm with Gazza on this one. A light is going to be less intrusive of an indicator, but still something that you can watch for. The vibration when you hit it is really all you're looking for...- 778 replies

Possible New Coaster for Luna Park Melbourne?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to alex_1's topic in Theme Park Discussion
There is a major difference between theme park fan pages, and the official facebook page of a park. The official page is usually run by marketing and PR guys, and the errors are their own ignorance, rather than being a lowly janitor in the chain of command. Nope - the coaster of the week posts are just poor research for the marketing team. -
Thanks guys for all the suggestions so far - keep em coming!

it would have taken too long to get a photographer there to record the actual issue - which would have been too late, and far too unimpressive to put next to the news story... -
Thanks Mac,Yes - New York New York was the one I meant at MGM.We do plan on taking in some shows around Vegas as well, which is why we've allowed the 4 days there. We don't plan on gambling a lot, but will have a flutter while we're there.

So the time has finally come for me to cash in my frequent flyer points, book some hotels, and make the pilgrimage to the states. It's been 17 years since my last trip state-side, so i'm looking forward to it, and the fact that it will also be my honeymoon is just a bonus. So now i'm putting it out there for all the advice from those who have gone before me. Flights are taken care of, as is accommodation. We've got 10 days in LA, a day on the road, and then another 4 days in vegas. Definites on our list are: [*]Disneyland resort (DLcali and DCA) [*]Universal [*]SFMM [*]Knott's (and potentially Knotts water park) [*]SW San Diego, and potentially the San Diego Zoo [*]Stratosphere Tower (LV) [*]The MGM Hotel & Casino Coaster (LV) [*]We also plan on a half day (FIFO) trip to the Grand Canyon. [*]Which tickets work out to be the best value? Ie: Universal and SFMM have premium ticketing with front of the line options and universal also has the VIP experience as well - are these worth the additional premium? Will we get through the whole park in a single day without them? [*]The last time I went to Disney (before DCA was built) We spent 4 days in the park, and still missed little things we didn't know about. I'm not making that mistake this time and making a list of all the various things we want to make sure we catch while we're there - but how many days do you need on Disney property to cover everything (and get some re-rides in?) [*]Can SW and the Zoo be done in a day, Is there a combined ticket that is good value for the two of them? [*]What other (parkz related) attractions are there in Vegas that are worth checking out? [*]Any other hints and tips - parkz related or not while we're over there (such as shopping etc)

Movie World new ride: JUSTICE LEAGUE: Alien Invasion 3D.
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to mba2012's topic in Theme Park Discussion
These things happen unfortunately, however during our hottest period of the year, i don't agree with making people line up outside in the sun, when theres a perfectly good queue line in an air conditioned building thats standing empty. I can't see that a guy in maintenance overalls is that bad that they need to clear people out for him to work...?- 778 replies

$500 million China theme park in Australia, NSW
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Ahhhhh.... I wasn't aware... Congratulations! On another note - Wyncenurous has a 3 month old - and we can't get him off the forums! (just kidding Wyn) -
It's funny that I just posted pretty much that in the SE loose items thread, about that being my pet peeve (especially during main street showtime when its packed!) Ahhh touche!
-
I've had to wait at the very front entrance because the gatekeeper was assisting someone with the lockers - the chain is across the walkway and you aren't allowed to enter until the gatekeeper returns. The gatekeeper then verbally asks and visually inspects the person for loose items. The argument that someone didn't know better is not acceptable after they've been past this person. I have a novel idea, that would take a little to implement, but i think it would be worth it. I've stated several times that I always get an all day locker, regardless of what i'm riding or how long i plan to be there... but my pet peeve is that i've usually got to go to the photo centre before i leave to pick up my stuff, and if i want to purchase anything, i need to go back and run the main street gauntlet to get my wallet. I don't agree with allowing those people who use a 1 hour locker to 'carry over' their time elsewhere, but why not offer an 'all day - any locker' idea, whereby use of wristband or special pin code, a person pays one all-day fee, but is free to use any locker, anywhere in the park... this way, personal belongings are kept with you, stored in the locker at each ride while you ride and taken out when you move onto the next ride. In my view, this would actually make more money for the park, thereby offsetting whatever additional staffing costs would be required to issue wristbands or whatever (WnW and the MW drink carts can issue wristbands, so what the big deal is there i don't know), because if you aren't occupying one locker all day - but in fact utilising various lockers around the parks for minimal periods and then vacating them when you move on, means there are more lockers available for use at any one time, but you still have the guest's money for an all-day hire?!?! thoughts?
-
Or, if you plan on using the lockers more than once, and you don't have a friend or family member who can hold them for you, just get an all day locker??? With all the one-hour lockers going up to $2, this is only 5 hours of the 7 hour day that you'd need before you hit the same price - the difference is you can access an all-day locker as many times as you want throughout the day, as opposed to losing the time you've paid for in a 1 hour locker if you access it 5 minutes later.
-
Usually, the baskets boxes they do have are for things like prescription glasses - where you can't ask someone to put them in a locker and then negoatiate a winding twisting queue line. If its a non essential like a hat or a phone or a wallet, they do make you get off and out the back door... and you don't get to jump the queue to get back on.... something i personally agree with! I've utilised the lockers at universal singapore for revenge of the mummy. The free time limit was quite reasonable (i think we got two rides in during the locker period) but i can understand why VRTP doesn't have the money to provide that as a free for a period facility... even though i think that they should.
-
If you made no attempt to hold on, and no attempt to stablise your footing (using your 'sea legs') the worst that would happen is you would fall onto the chain, potentially fall over it or through it, seeing you land in the aisleway. The operator would very quickly e-stop, which would flatten the boat onto a level rotation in about 2 seconds, and bring it to a very quick (screeching) stop. You'd be a bit banged up, but you most certainly would not have fallen off out.

Sea World Storm Coaster construction 2013
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to alex_1's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I like the nice touch on covering up theming the footings footers out in the pedestrian areas. Hopefully it doesn't remain 'just plywood' (because it'll rot) and they paint up the concrete the same way, or something with a wavy stormy theme around it. On the footers - they are everywhere... and holy crap that layout looks interesting! Cannot wait. I have it on relatively good authority that this is definitely not going to be ready in April... As said already, September is almost certainly bang on the money.... then they can have 'soft opening' that runs for 3 months before the christmas holidays.... that sounds familiar? -

Should Movie World get more attractions?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to HillbillyTheThemeParker's topic in Theme Park Discussion
When did the Germans buy Movie Vorld? Maybe they'll install more rides attractions? The premium on space inside MW is massive. Installing flats willy nilly isn't going to do anything but take up valuable real estate, and in the parks current condition, would take up pedestrian space that is sorely needed. I'd like to see them reopen chinatown alley - or at least the cut through from AA to SDSC, and install a flat in the AA piazza... I've said before that Batwing would have gone great in that space, but alternatively there are numerous other attractions that would do very nicely. There are a few expansion options for the park that have been discussed to death (behind beside showstage, next to WWF, out over the carpark, behind RRRC etc etc. Although it is more expensive, I'd like to see MW make their next coaster a full-custom job, rather than something off the shelf. Instead of trying to find a coaster that fits within the footprint of the land they've decided to use, get a manufacturer to design one that would work with and around existing infrastructure. A coaster that runs around the main street canopy maybe even through the buildings down mainstreet (eg: cross from the upper floor of the bakery, down mainstreet and into a window near the internet kiosk) - [i'm not saying run the track straight down mainstreet, just criss-cross it once or twice - this won't interfere with the existing uses of speaker-stacks and lighting, and it would also provide something else for them to hang lights off]. Movie world needs to install a true, one of a kinder here, and make use of existing areas, work with them, rather than demolishing and levelling the land and building it on a stark, pebble covered foundation.
