A lot of things are possible. A stratocoaster on The Spit is possible. I prefer what's practical.- 53 replies

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster vs. Wild Mouse vs. Dingo Racer
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to TBoy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Perhaps the roof could be cantilevered so that it can open in the event of an emergency quickly allowing all the smoke to escape in one go (and they can install fire sensors in the eyes of the cars too) He is right that venues have fire systems that you can use haze with. I feel as though he might not be right about how hard it might be to do it for scooby - as given the level of investment they've made, I feel as though we'd have seen more smoke\haze in the room with the lighting upgrade if it were possible not that hard to do so. It is very apparent that there is some sort of obstruction preventing them from easily increasing the haze level in that room.- 53 replies

Closed theme parks adventures...
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to New display name's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The southern yellow pine the bushbeast was made from was all chemically treated and the entire structure was buried in a toxic disposal site. The main timbers found in that area are either: the "water trough" theming throughout goldrush that was hurriedly removed overnight one day after a length of trough fell on a guest. (Goldrush certainly looked different after that!) Snowy River elements - when the turntable was decommissioned, many of the conveyor \ kicker elements in and around the station were also removed to make way for the steel rails and gates. a lot of the 'tube facing' elements were made of timber, and i've seen some of these in that location also. -
Sky Voyager new themed experience

A couple of 'water projectors' in the queue area that they turn on when running the underwater program would be a really nice touch though. SEA Voyager anyone? -

From what I recall, heavy smoke \ fog \ haze isn't an option for scoob these days due to certain safety requirements. (i'm not an expert, just paraphrasing what i've heard). The install as it currently stands would look fucking amazing with a bit more, but it isn't practical to do so. At the very least, in a smoke-less world, the current install does better than the laser because the beams need less particulate in the air to actually be seen. Well shit, chalk up another thing you're an expert in. Between turnstiles and haze machines you've got the market cornered. And since you can do it, it must mean that anyone can!- 53 replies

I did mention it was from 1999. Apologies for the confusing wording - what I meant was, if you go to that site, there are a few other shots that are later than the 1999 one (2001-2002ish) that show the volcano, but the 1999 shot was the clearest shot of the volcano.

yeah look - this is just being blown up way too much. It depends on your perspective. it seems pedantic, but i'm conscious of a couple of things. we're well aware the parks read the forums 'an acid trip' comes off with negative connotations. Even sans drug references. I wouldn't have used the term, with or without connotation, as I didn't feel that it warranted the description. I'm on record that the lighting design in that room is absolute quality. The varying scenes \ patterns offer re-rideability that has never been offered previously, and I like it. It's one of the few positive changes MW has made to that attraction since it opened. It's a disco. dance party. MXPX kinda lends itself to that sort of theme too. People read these forums before visiting to get an idea of what they might experience, so I guess I just felt that I should counter what I felt was an exaggeration of what the experience is like. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. And certainly not warranting this entire page of replies. It's equivalent to if I said "if you call MDMC a thrill ride, you obviously don't know what thrill rides are."- 53 replies

Bringing this one full circle, even colloquially, the Scooby Disco room is way off something i'd describe as 'an acid trip'- 53 replies

I miss the fountain of improbability. If you look at the 1999 aerial I posted above, you can see that the M1 as it exists today wasn't built yet (looks to be early days of construction) and the actual highway at that point was immediately parallel to the WnW Carpark. The height, and distance between highway vehicles and Matilda back then was a lot different to what you'd see today (plus, the M1 today has hedges that would hide a lot of the park from view too)

With these interest rates, i'll revise my offer to a Snickers wrapper and a FastPhoto Wristband (not activated, fresh from the dispenser at DC Rivals).

Attached here is a Qimagery shot from 1999 showing the volcano. There are a few other shots in the early 2000's but this is the clearest I could see. The next available shot showing development of Buccaneer Bay was in June 2005: So at least we know the timeline. I wonder if anyone has a pre-2005 WNW park map so we can figure out what the old area was called? Because, it seems likely it wasn't Buccaneer Bay...

Missing the spider is indicative of the poor lighting in the room prior to your "Acid trip" upgrades. Though, if you're calling that an acid trip, you obviously haven't tripped on acid.- 53 replies

Apologies I wasn't aware. I'll insert my commiserations or congratulations as the case may be and let you take whichever one suits you best.

Don't do two polls. i was keen to vote JR vs MDMC but did not wish to vote for the boomerang, but both must be voted to count. Only do polls on rides that are open AND exist. theoretical builds, SBNO or rides since demolished or removed shouldn't be included. If you're struggling to come up with combos, ask the group in this thread for suggestions.

This is indeed what I remember, and it appears to be prior to the 'buccaneer' theming i've been able to find (all the ones with buccaneer theming has the splashpad\tower with tipping bucket.) This is definitely earlier, and for mine, doesn't fit the 'buccaneer' theme.

For non Disney fans, just to be clear, these examples are in Hong Kong Disneyland. And I agree with everything said^

I do like the expression 'if everyone liked the same thing, the world would be a pretty boring place' - but you are still writing them off without having given it a try, and i'd encourage you to give it a go. I can assure you it'll be a surprise.

it's like they inserted something to represent batwing, and left it in in the side profile, without realising it was already visible!

Yeah, Everything I can find marked 'buccaneer bay' is with the current slide tower \ tipping bucket structure - can't find the mountain \ volcano anywhere - though it did occur to me that it might be worth checking those old aerial photos that we were checking for the Dreamworld corkscrew last week - as that might shed some light on the old mountain...

Thanks to all for supporting my point about Disney parks. For mine, one of the big things is you don't need super big thrills to absolutely enjoy the attractions - imagineers know how to make what looks like a very slow moving attraction into a thrilling one without the need for high speed, or inversions, both of which can put people off. Indiana Jones is a great example of this - I think the quoted speed is 23km/h but it feels fast... and the experience is just as thrilling with plenty of near misses and jump scares etc.

Just checking - are you making that assumption based on drawings of layouts and\or POVs or have you been on them? It sounds like you haven't been on them... I know lots of people who hold this view - they almost universally haven't been. I'd encourage you both to try them out before thinking too poorly of them.
