  1. Cost vs benefit. It won't attract any more guests to the event as a whole, will cost more to run (staff, pumps), plus the hire of the lights and the angst of the neighbours.
  2. As I said, I have no actual idea, it's something I'm sure I saw on here once, thought someone may know tax law better than me ☺
  3. I meant to quote the "32 mill OMG" post. Shipping makes these rides dearer than an European install, of course.
  4. I recall someone explaining once it is a tax depreciation thing? That is, they can claim the depreciation of the asset against their tax if it sits there, whereas if it is pulled down they loose that ability to claim. I'm no tax agent, so don't know if that is correct or not.
  5. From memory, and purely from memory, the gradient and curvature running in the opposite direction should be more gentle, than going the new route. Rocky Hollow is probably about the lowest point, with Main St being the highest. Train's run solid axle's typically, so tight corners both ascending and descending aren't a good thing. One wheel needs to slip to negotiate the curve, reducing the tractive effort (grip/traction). Flipping the train around would be the easiest and cheapest solution. And with all the cranes on site, it would be simple enough to do during construction of the coaster.
  6. There are scarier one's out there, just picked that one for the local aspect of it.
  7. Depends on how many it kills I guess. This one was at Roma Street Station in 1898.
  8. With their maintenance record, should they really be operating a pressure vessel full of water at around 180 degrees Celsius (150psi)?
  9. 40 year old concrete won't be a challenge for modern drilling and pile driving.
  10. I recall them saying (I think with the world's biggest microphone) that additional steel was required for the coaster approval, to allow for storm/cyclone rating. Particularly the support that crosses the road. Of course the additional timber would stand out, particularly to enthusiasts.
  11. Wasn't Rivals built with additional structure for a storm/cyclone rating? This would be the same.
  12. It was possible for other people to do this as well, there was a process out there that allowed for this (international returnees only I believe). This is how Dani Minogue was able to do it, took applications prior to returning to the country. I know someone in the coronavirus 'department'.
  13. People seem to forget/not realise that it was the Federal Government that let Tom Hanks etc into the country.
  14. Plus LED reduces power draw which for new installs means smaller wiring. Also less heat created so a minor reduction in AC demand.
  15. Jet Rescue hasn't, Sidewinder/Gold Coaster has.
  16. And it was only valid for about 6 months or so, from memory?
  17. That's what gets me with these discussions. The bean counters at the various companies know what they need to charge to keep the lights on and make a profit. Certainly much better than the enthusiast community.
  18. The ride opening will also increase domestic tourism on the Gold Coast, which helps the economy.
  19. ABC report https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-25/woman-critical-after-falling-from-carnival-ride-cairns/12811058 25 year old lady, fell from the top of the cycle, critical but stable. Ride OP reportedly said to a bystander "ride is on a timer, I can't stop it". That last bit doesn't sound right as we all know though (E-Stop).
  20. @Brad2912 I was simply describing the main purpose of each mode. Running multiple spurs everywhere is costly, and restricts the service through the core. A single central section like through Surfers can only handle so many LR vehicles. If you have multiple spurs, you then limit the number services on each spur because of the restriction in the core. But if you transfer from LR to bus, you can have good service levels on each 'spur' that the bus now serves. Bus routes need to be redesigned as each stage of the LR opens, which is something that the transport advocates (rail back on track for instance) push for. The next northern spur is towards Harbour Town (hence the stub at the top of the 'tunnel' at the GC University hospital). Then probably north to Hope Island and Coomera. That will likely be after the airport/Tweed stage.
