  1. I don't think there's anything wrong with calling it that. I'd call a roller coaster like Space Mountain at Disneyland the same.
  2. Does that mean Leviathan is a female roller coaster? If so keen to ride her.
  3. If it's anything like what happened with the Garfield ride at Kennywood in the US the company that holds the license for the characters might force them to destroy everything IP associated and even film them doing so to make sure they're not used/sold to anyone else.
  4. Maybe I'm not the best judge on what the general public wants from a theme park but looking at this line-up this ain't it. I don't think there's anything wrong with any of these additions, I just don't think any of these things is going to help the park with their lagging attendance. The coaster seems reactionary to the Wizard of Oz precinct's coasters rather than evaluating what's missing in their park, "Movie World is getting a themed family coaster(s), well then we'll do that too but with better themeing!" Again, not saying I hate any of this I just don't think the choice of coaster in particular is the right move at this particular time.
  5. I've said it before but this next announcement from Dreamworld regarding what new things are coming in the future needs to be impressive if the park wants to stay in any way competitive with Movie World. And not just from the perspective of competing with the upcoming Wizard of Oz precinct and those 2/3 coasters but just in terms of being a competitor based on the overall attraction line-up. Steel Taipan wasn't enough of a visually impressive/record breaking coaster to compete with Rivals, if they want to win back theme park clout (and most importantly the general public through the gates) they'll need an impressive water attraction in addition to some sort of unique, "record breaking" roller coaster. That's the thing that'd make Dreamworld a must do for visitors and locals alike. But I don't think they'd announce both a water ride and a roller coaster and the kids area retheme. My bet is just some themed water attraction and the aforementioned kids area upgrades. It'll be what the park needs at bare minimum but it won't be enough to immediately make the park true competition to what's down the road. Would love to be proven wrong though.
  6. Not to be too cynical, but I feel like there's two major reasons that they've decided on $30 (which is insane if you ask me) and that's a) because VRTP think they can charge anything for anything and people will pay it because they have the market cornered or conversely, b) they *whisper* this price in an 'unofficial' announcement via a Facebook message, people (i.e. us) get annoyed by it and then they reveal the price is cheaper than $30 and everyone is happy.
  7. If Dreamworld wanted a big kahuna roller coaster to save them from the riptide they are currently in they'd splash out and buy a B&M Surf Coaster for their park and call it 'Wipe Out' or 'The New WipeOut' or something along those lines it'd be sure to make a splash amongst the general public and aficionados alike.
  8. Honestly I'd love if the upcoming Jungle Rush attraction was some kind of long water ride utilising the lake/river/water donut, but the fact that it's called 'Jungle Rush' and not 'Jungle Splash' means its going to be something decidedly not wet. Shame that.
  9. I'm not really surprised at all, for me as an only partial roller coaster fan when I heard about the Steel Taipan announcement I was like, "huh, okay, I'm sure it'll be fun but whatever it's not enough to make me make a trip" compared to when Rivals was announced and I was like "now that's pretty cool, I have to ride that!" I imagine the general public would have reacted similar if not worse. With how clickbait-y and tik tok attention-y so many people are unless you can put "fastest" or "tallest" or "stand-up" or "flying" or "most inversions" or something like that in your description and instead just having a "really solid multi-launch, with backwards launch, with spinning back seat full circuit coaster" ain't going to cut it.
  10. I think Dreamworld overestimated how much of an impact Steel Taipan would have on their attendance. Putting aside the effect of the incident (which is still a factor but not relevant to the point I'm making) just adding one new roller coaster that to the eyes of the general public isn't visually or 'record-breakingly' impressive was never going to cut it. Steel Taipan is the kind of ride you add when your park is already in good stead and just needs something different to an already existing line-up of crowd pleasers and record breakers. If the park still had any water ride and ToT2 in their line-up then Steel Taipan would have been a fine addition. But now the park needs to wow the general public to get attendance numbers up. Obviously this isn't going to happen and instead they're going to focus on refreshing their kids areas which, again, isn't going to drive gate. It's not that the kids areas aren't important - of course they are - but if that's all they're going to be doing for the next year or two then we can expect Dreamworld to be lagging behind in ticket sales until they start making the park a 'must visit' location.
  11. I would have preferred something more classic Hollywood, art deco style hotel would have looked better but I guess to the general public something sleek and modern is more obviously appealing.
  12. It'd be cool if Jungle Rush could be a new attraction that utilizes the lake (is it a lake? more like a water donut) as that area especially the island is the only part of the park that could pull off looking like a jungle. Or it could be a retheme of MDMC, just change the motorbikes to animals.
  13. Long story short if you want to experience Disney on the cheap forget about the US parks and just go to Tokyo. You'll have a much better (cheaper) time I assure you!
  14. All I'll say is I hope this roller coaster is very successful for Sea World as I'd love for more parks around the country to open more wooden roller coasters.
  15. I remember my first and only visit to Luna Park was in the month (or so) up to Big Dipper (Gold Coaster) closing, I believe at that time it was unknown whether it would be going to a new home or not so I rode it probably fifteen times that day. As you say it felt like it was a part of the landscape of the park, the first drop being so close against the buildings and retaining walls on the right hand side of the coaster was such an excellent experience. I feel like if Dreamworld put more effort in and didn't just dump it in the carpark Gold Coaster could have benefitted greatly from being amongst the trees further back in the park.
  16. I'm not surprised Thunderbolt is fairing so poorly. It was the first non-kiddie coaster I ever rode, think I rode it for the first time in the mid 90's around the time when Village Fair was re-themed into Ocean Parade. Despite having an annual pass for most of the years from the mid 90's through the early 2000's I can count on one hand the amount of times I rode Thunderbolt in total. The loops were impressive and a little bit fun but the rest of the ride was completely underwhelming and at worse painful.
  17. I only voted Wooden Big Dipper as its the only ride on the list I never got a chance to rode (aside from Orphan Rocker obviously which only a handful of people in the entire world ever got to ride).
  18. What do you mean by redundant? I haven't been to Dreamworld to ride Steel Taipan yet but out of all their current rides The Claw is probably my favourite at the park.
  19. I doubt Dreamworld would ever (or at least not for a good decade or more) ever theme anything to mining or gold rush again, just to properly distance themselves from the TRRR incident. Much as it would be expensive (and potentially ugly from the outside) to do so an indoor family coaster the likes of Scooby Doo or Road Runner would be good so as to have more to do on rainy days. But unless they found a way to add an indoor roller coaster to the refurbishment of their kiddy land (which wouldn't work with the buildings they currently have) then they probably have a lot more important additions to add to the park first. If Motocoaster wasn't in such an awkward spot they could enclose that and make it a Tron-style coaster to give it a facelift, but then again this is Dreamworld not Movie World so probably doesn't make much sense...
  20. Just had a look at the website and seems like there's a lot more shitty ones than there used to be, not a lot of thought or care put into them just "hey here's 10 of the same chocolate bars, that'll do as a showbag right?" Some of them seem the same as when I was a kid though, like the 'Jumbo Mega Fizz Showbag' looks almost identical to something I got multiple years or even that $3.00 Bertie Beetle bag (Bertie apparently immune to inflation) looks mostly the same. I think a part of it might be just getting older though as you said, nowadays I'm like, "I don't need that much chocolate or lollies, I'd rather a nice burger and a pint for the $40 bucks I'd spend on the showbags I'd want as a kid." To me a lot of the fun of getting showbags was walking around with so much swag, feeling like a champ with all the goodies I had and then bringing them home and spreading it all out on the floor and admiring the haul.
