Aussie World And Ettamogah Pub - Landsborough Qld
GoGoBoy replied to DaptoFunlandGuy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Don't they already have a toboggan run? If not now they certainly used to many years ago. I have an old park map which clearly shows quite a large toboggan layout going down the hill -
Thanks for posting the articles. Fantastic to see the park doing so well since the introduction of the new slides. This shows that the theme park industry is alive and well in NSW. Despite the false claims and excuses Wonderland made, the fact is if you invest in new attractions the people will come

It's definitely a large improvement on the old website which I was not fond of at all... certainly from an aesthetic perspective anyway. Now they just have to fix the ugly WhiteWater World site

Yeah but people are suggesting this coaster is not the water coaster that has been referred to -

The existing Vekoma motocoaster layouts are really good with lots of airtime hills and great momentum. I would be worried if they messed with this and went with a custom design we may end up with another poor layout like Dreamworld's Mick Doohan Motocoaster. Most of the Vekoma motorcoasters that have been built overseas get very good reviews from riders -

A Vekoma motorbike coaster would be ten times better than Dreamworld's Intamin motorbike coaster. The layouts for the Vekoma versions just look like so much more fun. As long as Sea World doesn't actually theme this with a motorcycle theme... I think that would be pretty unlikely -
They are all crap 2nd hand carnival rides so I voted for don't care. But if I was forced the only ride that comes anywhere close to slightly decent is the Wild Mouse... and that is just because it is the closest thing at the park to resembling a coaster

I'm pretty sure someone was actually killed on one of these things a number of years ago. Does anyone remember that? Possibly at the Port Stephens one

Article: Dreamworld, WhiteWater World report six month growth
GoGoBoy replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm really pleased to see WhiteWater World doing so well. This certainly justifies any expansion. Interesting to see that attendance has increased significantly this January compared to when it first opened. I'm surprised because I thought the new factor would pull people in initially and then when they realise it's not that big they might not come back. But obviously the quality of the rides and slides at the park have payed off. It's funny how Macquarie Leisure seem to be making all the right moves in terms of WhiteWater World but are a little more questionable when it comes to Dreamworld -
Good to have you back Kenny. Personally I'm counting on the WhiteWater World expansion to go ahead as it may be the only positive thing we see coming out of Dreamworld for a while (based on Stephen Gregg's comments). I'm hoping a decent number of the new slides/attractions will be opened this year and not spread over many years. I received a Macquarie Lesiure newsletter in the mail recently. It talked about future growth being partly driven by the 'planned WhiteWater World expansion'. So things appear to still be on the right track at this stage

They've shut Thunder River Rapids? No doubt there is some maintenance reason but if they had other rides to soak up the capacity that would be okay.... but they don't. Now let me just get this straight - Gold Rush Country is one of the major themed areas and currently there is NO mine ride, NO chairlift and NO river ride. So that leaves... nothing?! Not good enough! I am getting more and more horrified about this park every day and I just can't understand why Macquarie wouldn't want to protect their major asset

Ok I'm not sure if anyone's alive on these forums lately but in case there is anyone out there reading this I have a question. For anyone that has been to Dreamworld recently can you tell me if there has been any progress on clearing/construction for the WhiteWater World expansion? I am worried that with the recent problems on the share market (and concerns over company borrowing levels) that it could be temporarily shelved. Combine this with Stephen Gregg's worrying obsession with only adding low cost 'interactive/skill' attractions and I have my doubts. Hopefully all will proceed as planned. Anyone got any info?

What would you do if 'you' owned or managed DW?
GoGoBoy replied to skystar_a320's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This is terrible news and ha confirmed all of my greatest fears about Stephen Gregg. Get rid of him I say! I can't believe he would want to change a formula which has been such a success for so long. Dreamworld is Macquarie Leisure's main revenue source and a total cash cow. So why does he feel the need to change this? The idea that modern teenagers only want 'interactive skill based' attractions is an outdated notion. They were saying this in the 1990's and we ended up wth interactive parks like Sega World which were total failures. In the end teenagers (and everyone else) want passive thrilling rides when they visit these parks. We want to be strapped in and thrown around. This is unbelievable -
Are you serious? When is it not raining on the Gold Coast these days? It just seems to me like we are always talking about it raining on the coast... mostly in relation to it delaying construction on new attractions. Ok I understand there are severe water restrictions in place and more water is needed. But it just feels to me like it never stops raining up there. Not that I'd know personally as I haven't visited the GC in a few years. I keep waiting for that giga coaster to tempt me back up there

They've got an alright looking website and the seating and shaded areas with the thatched roofs look quite good. But seriously they've only got ONE waterslide... and it's a very old school slide at that

Thanks for the article Gazza I've been waiting for some news on this. Well I think this is a terribly disappointing albeit predictable outcome. The words 24 hours, entertainment precinct, cafes, restaurants, commercial etc. all fill me with horror. I do not believe they need these things to justify capital investment. It has been proven that fun/theme parks can be extremely successful and profitable in Australia as stand alone businesses. Linfox just wants minimal investment with easy returns with little thought for the benefit of the people of Melbourne and the area in general. So much for all their original talk of restoring the original fun park to its former glory. That was obviously just said when they were hoping to score the neighbouring development sites

Hey how was this event? Any trip reports/photos? Interested to hear how this went down and whether it was busy etc.
-
Whatever they end up doing for the coming year they better start working on it soon. I'd hate to see another Movie World or Wet n Wild rushed job with a delayed opening date. They need to get it right (they always used to but for some reason not recently) and have enough time to finish off the details
-
PATHETIC. Knowing Dreamworld they will bill this as their next major attraction. Looks like the CEO is getting even closer to converting Dreamworld from a theme park into his own personal dream of an 'Entertainment & Sporting Recreation Precinct'

And will the forums change? I'd be devastated if the forums weren't Aussie centric anymore

Here are some of my thoughts. I like the name Parkz and the overall branding and design associated with the site. I understand the desire for change, particularly from Richard's point of view as he probably gets tired of working on the same site all the time and wants to shake things up a bit. My hope would be that this change doesn't come at the sacrifice of the name and profile that R-C.com.au has built up over the last few years. More so than Total Thrills before it, R-C.com.au has really put itself out there as one of the best sources for Aussie theme park news. So many times if you google a term relating to an Aussie park, some of the highest results that are returned are from this site. How would a name and branding change affect these hard achieved listings and general reputation etc.? I have another concern and this is probably the biggest of all. I am really disappointed that the new site is going to take away the focus on the Australian theme park inudstry. There is just nothing else like this site dedicated to this industry. There are so many thousands of sites dedicated to overseas parks, I don't understand why there needs to be another one. I don't mind reading about what's going on in overseas parks when it relates to comparisons with what we have here. I know personally I was disappointed when Ozcoaster started focusing more on OS parks and rides. That's just my own opinion because I really want the local news and updates that affects us. Particularly with the next few years promising to be big in our industry, I think that's more reason than ever to keep focused

2008 New Attractions to keep crowds coming
GoGoBoy replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The article on the main page regarding Village Roadshow's comments about the coming year makes it almost sound like all we can expect is the hippo exhibit and the stunt show. I can tell you right now that I would be neither suprised nor dazzled by either of these 'attractions'. I certainly hope based on what they have said that there is a lot more coming ride wise otherwise it will actually be a very sad year -
2008 New Attractions to keep crowds coming
GoGoBoy replied to mattcrombie's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Wow thanks so much for posting that article. This looks like big news and I'd say we are looking at good times ahead for the Australian theme park industry. Nice to see these companies are finally realising what huge demand there is for rides and themed entertainment in Oz. We will have to wait with anticipation to see what Village Roadshow announces but it's sounding promising and Dreamworld is going to need to step up or risk being trampled on -
I completely agree with this post. This should be the goal of any decent theme park. Having a 'FlowRider' and an attraction themed to motorbike racing does not follow along with this context of escaping reality and entering another world. Some very poor recent choices by Dreamworld
