  1. Given that Green Lantern premieres in cinemas next Thursday the 4th of August, perhaps they will promote the new attraction in conjunction with it (for example, in the theatre). That is, of course, assuming my hunch is correct.
  2. I've said it before and I'll say it again... "Green Lantern!"
  3. I need to give the rest of some rides some thought, but I'm getting in early to say the coaster will probably be themed to 'How to train your Dragon' It's current, there's a sequel on the way (and a live arena spectacular) and it is probably the most 'flight oriented' of their films.
  4. I went in 2008 and the lady in the Terminator did the same thing, saying "Superrr!" at the end of every sentence, however the croed seemed to love it and a whole bunch of people were all shouting it out along with her, so must be a running thing. I'm with you and found it annoying.
  5. Vintage Cars have been gone for quite some time now.
  6. Is it just me or does Dreamworld have an obsession with Turbines? Between the one in the Cyclone queue, and (from what I understand) TOT2 is now somehow turbine related, and now references to turbines on this new addition, I think there is a bit of a trend forming here...
  7. Does anybody else think the new attraction could be themed to The Green Lantern? As it is being released next month...
  8. Stopped off at Aussie World on the way past on Sunday. Ride was still not complete, but I would say that all the rain that they have had on the Sunshine Coast would've held things up by a couple of days. The ride is right on the park's boundary on the Northern side of the Ettamogah Pub, so it is clearly visible from the highway. I have included a couple of photos although they are iPhone jobs, so probably not the best. Although I didn't get a photo, just inside the entry area behind the counters was a large poster showing a conceptual image of the Giant Redback and the new log ride, which looks similar to the old Flume Ride that used to sit in Hanna Barberra land (themed to the Flinstones?), albeit with a themed structure at the top. It also appeared to have a kid's play area at the bottom next to the splashdown area, presumably so kids can run in and get drenched as the boats come down. The guy at the counter, who was one of the friendliest and most helpful themepark staff I've ever encountered, confirmed that the log ride should be open around September. I'm planning to take my family down there in the next few weeks. Will try and hold out until the Disk'O is running though.
  9. This is from Aussie World's March newsletter... Nothing we didn't already know, but I think it is great that they are telling people what's coming, rather than the cloak and dagger approach used by the Gold Coast parks. Still no date, but as Troy said, sounds like they should be up and running for Easter. I will be driving past on Friday so I will try and grab some pics if I have time.
  10. This thread just reminded me of a sketch from The Late Show, which aired on the ABC in the early 90's. It had a segment called Sh_tscared, and one of these were filmed entirely at Movieworld including the Western Show and Police Academy. Don't know if anyone remembers it, but it was fairly funny back in the day, now it's great just to see how Movieworld looked back in 1993...
  11. Well, the Gold Coast parks have been missing one ever since Young Einstein's Gravity House closed. Edit: Apologies for the double post, no idea how it happened....
  12. So now they are turning existing free attractions into up-charges as well? This is disappointing to say the least. Whilst I realise that there will be free screenings of The Curse Of Skull Rock during the day, the fact that there will be paid sessions during operating hours will probably further upset full entry fee paying guests, and even world pass holders like the guy discussed in this thread: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/index.php?showtopic=5520
  13. Hey AussieNetMan, Great idea for a poll, but is there anyway you can rename them so that they don't all have exactly the same name? For example, 'Part 1 of 4', or just 'KO Comp 1'. It became difficult to work out which ones I had already voted in & had to go into them multiple times to check. Perhaps someone else was voting at the same time as me so they kept changing position, or perhaps I should just stop posting after work knock-off drinks
  14. We certainly do Gazza. It has been operating for just over 12 months now. I haven't ridden a flowrider for comparison, but I did find it 'pretty rough' in that if you tried to stand up or do something tricky, when you fell off, you did get quite pummelled. I certainly took at least one good knock on the head when I rode, and was pretty thankful for the helmet. You are also required to wear a rash vest, which I assume is the same for Flowrider. As for the park in which it is situated, Wetside Water Education Park Hervey Bay is located on the Hervey Bay foreshore and opens all year (actual hours vary seasonally). I have been meaning to post about it on here sooner, but just never seemed to get around to it. The park's website can be found here: http://www.widebaywater.qld.gov.au/communi...ereducationpark It is free to enter, with the Boardrider being an upcharge at $5 for 10 minutes, shared with 3 other riders. The park also features a water play structure similar to those found in most water parks these days as well as a large 'zero-depth' area with thousands of fountains & water spouts. They also have the capacity to use this area for a light & music spectacular, which has recently began operating some nights. Photos can be found on the website of both the boardrider and the other 'attractions' There are numerous rumours floating around regarding possible expansions with more 'water park style attractions' in the near future. The current area was rather optimistically called Stage 1 on all the plans and drawings I saw, so who knows, we may end up with a half decent attraction here some years down the line.
  15. The reference to the smaller wave size may have referred to the amount of flow, coming over the crest, rather than the physical footprint of the machines, as someone mentioned a 'thinner sheet of water.' While I haven't had a chance to checkout a flowrider, I did until recently, work at Wetside Water Education Park in Hervey Bay. It's a free water park which featured a 'Boardrider' (I believe the water flows in the opposite direction to the flowriders) as an upcharge attraction, which had 5 operating levels. 1, was of course, quite tame, and I believe it operated on 2 or 3 for general use. The staff could crank it up to 4 or 5 for larger guests, or more experienced surfers/boarders. The volume of water that came over 'the wave' was significantly different on these different levels. I could tell from the café which I operated (despite it being approximately 100 or more metres away) whenever they had turned it up to 5 by the increased roar of the water. And, having ridden it on both 3 and 5, can say that 5 definitely feels & appears to be a much bigger wave. Hope this helps
  16. Thanks for the update, Whitsy. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. Racing cars and pineapples are hardly a match made in heaven, but hopefully they will do something new and exciting with it.
  17. That looks pretty amazing. Considering the new Tron movie's soundtrack is produced completely by Daft Punk, you can just imagine how cool, the music and lights would all work together. The entire time I was looking at those photos I'm pretty sure I could here the guy's behind Illuminate crying.
  18. Good point Gazza. I guess I was thinking in terms of the parks being open after hours still being relatively new and not 'doubling up' over that period, but you are right in terms of them being targeted at different demographics. The question is, would parents with kids of Sesame Street viewing age be looking to take them out to a park after dark? We have a son who's nearly 3 and although he likes Sesame Street, it would be hard to justify paying to go to the park for a couple of hours just to see the count. I haven't been to a Fright Night yet, but is it really that err, scary? I understand a SAW themed attraction is going to be, but is the overall vibe of the place that dark and terrifying, or would younger kids still enjoy the general atmosphere if not the mazes themselves (Don't worry I'm not asking to take my Son)? It was just the first idea that came into my head (I was actually just hoping a few people would end up with that song from Grease stuck in their head and wonder why). Although, I thought the Dive in Movies were only on for a brief period over Christmas and Saturday nights. Surely there would be enough time over the warmer months to have non clashing evening events. As for 'Cold Winter Nights' maybe Dreamworld will have a snow-making machine they could borrow? At least the polar bears would enjoy it.
  19. Unfortunately, the way the newsletter reads, this will only be a day time addition to the park on the last four weekends of October, and not a separate event. It probably makes sense for Village to not have two competing Halloween events, at least while the Fright Nights are still relatively in their infancy. I do however think a night time event at Sea World would be worth attending, perhaps at a different time of the year. 'Hot Summer Nights' perhaps?
  20. My Son's only 2, but he definitely got the most out of Seaworld. They seem to have the most rides for youngsters to ride, especially those that aren't used to rides. Movieworld also has a few rides for young kids, but their restrictions seemed to be a bit tighter than Seaworld's, meaning there were things He wanted to go on but couldn't, but with your youngest being 6 (congratz on the hat trick by the way), that shouldn't be a problem. By the time you attend, Seaworld will also have their new Castaway Bay which is a kid friendly area, so it should be a must visit with kids at the age yours are. Once you factor in all the wonderful animal exhibits, it is definitely a great full day for kids. I haven't yet taken my Son to Dream World or White Water World, so I cannot comment on those. Dreamworld's Wiggles World might be a bit 'babyish' for your kids, but Nickleodeon, should be good for them. Wet 'n Wild's kids area is great, and I believe White Water World have two, so you shouldn't go too far wrong at either. I appreciate that's probably not that helpful, but I hope you and your family have a great time at whichever parks you choose.
  21. The parachute drop was sold to Wonderland where it operated as Skyhawk until the park's closure, when it was sold and made it's way back to the Gold Coast, to the 'Adrenaline Park' in Surfer's. It is standing but not operational. I also recall that Magic Mountain had an old fashioned theatre in which a pianist played the along to a silent movie. There was also an attraction (at the bottom of the mountain) that I vaguely remember was just an empty room that was dark, you walked in and a flash would go off, that would then leave a lasting silhouette on the wall of whoever was in there. Does anyone else remember this?
  22. The concept of rotating several different movies throughout the day isn't without some merit. It would mean you could visit The Roxy more than once per visit and have a different experience each time. It may also mean it could potentially soak up more of the crowd as people wouldn't just be visiting it once during their stay.
  23. Hi guys, Just got back from a trip to Queenstown, New Zealand, and I did notice that the cost for a 'zip line' adventure over there was pretty high. A company called 'ZipTrek' offers a thrill experience above the town of Queenstown, which admittedly had you traversing 4 different zip lines over their course down the mountain. The cost is NZ$119, but you are first required to travel up the mountain on the gondola for a cost of NZ$22. With this in mind I'd say $10, or even $15, seems reasonable. Granted the view from above Wet 'n Wild won't quite match the view across to The Remarkables mountain range, but it starts to look like a pretty cheap & reasonable alternative.
  24. It's not Bullen's Animal World, but unfortunately it's name escapes me. From memory it was something generic like 'funnyland' or 'crazyland,' but don't quote me on that. I recall it was on the right hand side as you were driving to the Dam just before you got into the park. It has been rundown / abandoned for as long as I can remember (I'm in my thirties & despite living nearby & traveling to the dam at least once a year, I've never seen it in operation). I haven't been through the area since 2006, but it was still as it appears in the photos then. Edit: LOL, just took a proper look at the photos, and I now believe it may have been called 'Fun Land' (and you can quote me on that!)
  25. There was actually footage of Wonderland on playschool yesterday. It must have been taken fairly late in the park's life as the chairlift could be seen in the background. The place looked deserted. It sure did bring back lots of fond memories, it's such a shame my Son won't ever get to go there.
