  1. Just spent the first half of the week up on the Gold Coast, post-Schoolies and pre-Christmas. I've got some interesting developments from Sea World, Wet'n'Wild and Dreamworld, and I'll be headed to WhiteWater World and Movie World tomorrow and Saturday. Pics are coming, my phone is glitching at the moment. Sea World was seemingly running on half-capacity to try to make everything perfect for peak season. The SpongeBob Coaster spent the first half of the day closed. New Kids' World is pretty awesome, and includes the Zamperla Demolition Derby that for some reason, Parkz lists as "announced". Storm Coaster suffered a moderate technical glitch which saw the ride closed for most of the day, and mechanics climbing the lift hill on foot. When I rode later, the lift hill had decreased in speed dramatically. Further, Ray Reef was closed for maintenance, which appeared to be some sort of bird-proofing. Wet'n'Wild had the Constrictor closed for some unseen form of maintenance or renovation. The entire area was surrounded in worksite fencing, complete with "DANGER: CONSTRUCTION SITE" signs. Any ideas? SurfRider broke down around midday, but I was assured by a staff member that it was a minor glitch, and they just wanted to make sure, what with peak season around the corner and all. There were a LOT of primary school pool parties on... So much for going a week early to avoid the lines... Contrary to the other two, Dreamworld was running full-pelt, with every ride, bar the Cyclone for obvious reasons, operating for the whole day. However, all of the special effects, notably in the Tower of Terror and BuzzSaw, had been replaced by annoyingly out-of-context music videos. Rather than your average bone-chilling wait for the Tower of Terror, I was put through Magic's "Rude" and some other cheery songs that really ruined the pre-ride feel. Construction on the Motorsport Area is going ahead nicely it would seem. The "Grid Burger Bar" is looking fairly complete, and there's a lot of promising construction going on. I couldn't catch a glimpse of any activity around the dormant Cyclone tracks, though. I'll update from the other two parks on Saturday night. Cheerio.
  2. SeaWorld in America has faced an 84% drop in net second-quarter income, from $37.4 million in 2014 to $5.8 million in 2015, in the second quarter. Revenue fell from $405.1 million to $391.6 million, a drop of 3%, in the second quarter of 2015 when compared to 2014. Consumers are still turning their backs on SeaWorld. The embattled marine life theme park company reported steep drops in profits and attendance and on Thursday, marking more loss in the wake of the damning documentary Blackfish. The company has been struggling to maintain consumer interest in SeaWorld in the wake of Blackfish, which offered a grim look at life in captivity for Orca whales, and has launched a series of campaigns discounts to keep visitors interested. I have seen a lot of reviews of Sea World Gold Coast where people are confusing Sea World with SeaWorld and are ripping it apart. I believe when Sea World first opened up it was smart to use Sea World as there name. I did read somewhere once that when Sea World found out the name was not registered in Australia they rushed to take the name so people would think SeaWorld was Sea World. Now that SeaWorld in America is having a lot of problems and Sea World in Australia is all grown up would it be wise for Sea World to change its name?
  3. With a large area cleared from Sea Vipers spot and even more area on the other side opposite COTD. What do you think should be Sea Vipers replacement?
  4. Hello everyone! I sure that this question has been asked before, but, would anyone know where I can find a copy of the soundtrack from the old Sea World Dolphin Show "Imagine"? The soundtrack brings back loads of great memories from the park and all my adventures there, it means a lot to me for some reason. I would absolutely kill to have a copy of the soundtrack for nostalgia, and listening to! Can an anyone help me?
  5. Hi all! I'm just wondering if there has been any new news resurfacing of an attraction Seaworld advertised when they first opened the Storm Coaster? The poster (Right) was of jungle animals, like Gorillas, and hippopotamus, i thought that the attraction would be that of a Jungle Adventure type of thing. Like the jungle Cruise at Disney perhaps? Seaworld is working on a massive refurbishment at the moment, with the addition of Creatures Of The Deep and the Nickelodeon Land refurbishment, however I still haven't heard any news of this attraction that was set for 2014. What do you guys think?
  6. Hi guys, Tonight (31 July 2014) is the last night you can renew your VIP Magic Pass and get a free upgrade to Gold. Their website is currently not validating renewals (their fault/technical issue), which means that people are unable to renew tickets online and claim the offer. If you've tried to renew your pass online, post in here. I think they should extend the offer, considering the glitch. I'll post details from Village Roadshow Theme Parks / Themeparks.com.au as they come through. Cheers, Nick
  7. Ok, all we have right now is a billboard with a couple of animals in a jungle and as I predict it might follow up from Dinosaur Island when that closes down. When it is around about late this year or early 2014 we might see some action around there. So what could it possibly be?
  8. On the Sea Viper page on Sea World maintenence page is the following message. " Sea Viper is being retired after bringing thrills to Sea Worlds guests for 32 years. Sea Viper has been a wonderful attraction but there comes a time when all rides need to retire. Sea World is constantly looking at new attractions like the $21M Storm Coaster which opened in December and there are several new and exciting options in the pipeline. Our theme parks are ever changing to ensure we continue to bring you, our guests, the best possible theme park experience possible."
  9. What do you personally consider to be the most intense ride on the Gold Coast? I expect to see a lot of people saying either Giant Drop or Superman Escape but I actually consider the AquaLoop water slide to more intense, standing on that trap door and awaiting the drop is terrifying (but the anticipation is half the fun), and then there is the actual drop and the loop.
  10. I'm heading up to the Gold Coast in November, and I want to visit some theme parks while i'm there. The only parks I have been too before are Dreamworld (I was only tall enough for the small rides back then), Movie World (back when the Superman Escape was only new) and Wet n Wild (before the AquaLoops, and I dind't go on the Jetsteams as the lines was too long). Now I'm going when it won't be holidays so there are no long lines. What is the best choice for a thrill seeker, Dreamworld and White Water World or Movie World, Wet n Wild and Seaworld. Note that the Cyclone will be closed a Dreamworld when I'm at the gold coast
  11. On Sea World's website, on the ride pages when you click "view on map" you get a map of Movie World! http://seaworld.com.au/rides-and-attractions/rides/jet-rescue.aspx
  12. I'm new to the fourms, just been reading about this so called 'New Direction' that theme parks in Australia are taking that don't involve the 'dark rides' that Bermuda Triangle and Looney Tunes once were, it's funny that apparently it's not what people want anymore as I think it's exactly what they want, whilst being up in the Gold Coast recently seeing the current state of the Bermuda Triangle now asking one of the Staff at Sea World what will happen to the Bermuda Triangle, he said nothing has been planned for the next 6 months as far as he knew, I then asked him what the ride looked like from the inside and he said Staff weren't allowed inside but all the theming etc... has been removed and none of the staff had been inside the building since April this year, he also said there has been alot of Sea World visitors asking him the same question and he thinks that we're unlikely to see anything happen there within the next year. I'm going to try and go to Movie World before the year is out to find out about Looney Tunes River Ride but it seems that Village Roadshow don't believe there is any future with those types of attractions. If anyone has any question's you'd like me to ask the Movie World staff, feel free to ask
