  1. How can the theme parks in Australia stop people having no confidence in them? This is what what was said after the GD safety stop. “We spent the day at dream world today and obviously started off with the iconic 'giant drop.' After spending 5-10minutes stuck up the top and my missus getting quiet nervous saying 'this isn't right we shouldn't be up here for this long,' we finally came down. We were offered no explanation at the bottom, even though we were greeted servicemen/engineers and security, and were ushered along and out the gate quickly. Throughout the day we also noticed that no other visitors were riding the giant drop and it remained empty. I am disappointed in the lack of communication from the staff in this anxious time and suggest that visitors are better informed and looked after in the event of another ride failure, especially the giant drop! “ Other people’s replies “I'm glad you are both okay. “ “I didn’t see anything on the news glad your ok “ “OMG, I hope you guys are okay! I heard about this and saw you were at Dreamworld, luckily no one got injured this time! “ “Absolutely disgusting it's not good enough, this time all were ok thankfully?Same as SeaWorld some of their rides weren't operating but still full price “ “There seems to be a spate of equipment hiccups, and failures, with some of these rides, lately. Glad you guys came out on the good side of the ledger. “ “Going to buy a lotto ticket I think! “ “Its disgusting after everything thats happened there you would have tjought they would have spoke etc to you “ “Not good think things are getting to old need replacing “ “Katie Stevens this man is not concerned the sensors worked- good thing they did or who knows what could of happened. What he is saying is that there was a severe lack of communication from Dreamworld around the incident. This was a big enough incident to alert engineers and security and it even made the news. There should have been communication for all patrons who were on the ride at the time “ “now I'm freakish out about our visit “ “They haven't learned “ “OMG!!! Not good. Are you guys ok? Huge spit needs to happen- not good enough!!! So long as you 2 are ok that's the main thing it Dreamworld Gold Coast need to get their act together!!!! “ “The fact we were able to ride the attraction while it obviously wasn't in 100% working condition is in itself concerning, just expected better from dreamworld “ I totally understand people feeling like this. The media have beaten DW up and now are beating every other park up. What I would like to know from the parks is why does it come across they are not fighting back. All the parks know that every stoppage is going to be pasted everywhere. I think all the parks need to come together on this and create some type of positive campaign about why rides stop. At the very least when something does happen they need to talk to the customers. Customers are anxious and it’s up to the parks to solve this.
  2. I just found a website where you can view high-quality historical satellite imagery of the Gold Coast. It is amazing seeing the theme parks in such detail in the past. Just an idea to 'past the time' until MW's hypercoaster track/support pieces appear, if anyone wants to see something specific of a Gold Coast theme park, just post below and I'll upload one (or the most popular request) each day until then. I'll provide the link to the full website (and thus, the source of the imagery) when the pieces arrive if there was something you wanted to see that had not yet been posted. To start off, here is Sea World on Tuesday the 10th of July 1973:
  3. Road Runner Rollercoaster was the 2nd ride to make it into Parkz All Stars Aussie Theme Park. Escape from Madagascar is the 2nd ride turned into paperclips. Parkz All Stars Aussie Theme Park line up 1: Jet Rescue 2: Road Runner Rollercoaster. I know everybody has been checking in every 5mins to see who will battle next and the wait is now over thanks to @Santa07. @Santa07 gave us a selection of 3 but I thought I would stuff it up and add one more.. It’s time to battle! which one will be left standing?
  4. Construction for the new Lego store at Dreamworld is about to begin
  5. Jet Rescue was the first ride to make it into Parkz All Stars Aussie Theme Park. MDMC is the first ride turned into paperclips. Next battle: Escape from Madagascar vs. Road Runner Rollercoaster. Time to see which one will be left standing and which one will be turned into dust. If anybody has any ideas of battles they what to see, you can send me a message and I will start a new one each Monday.
  6. I saw people debating within another topic which was a better ride. This gave me an idea. Here you can nominate two different rides from different parks. The idea is the rides you nominate are competing for the same guest. For example and this is just for @reanimated35 Big Red Car @ DW vs Superman Escape @ MW are not competing for the same guest and would not battle. I will start and keep it simple for the first one. Mick Doohan's Motocoaster @ DW vs Jet Rescue @ SW If you don't agree with the nominated rides competing than call it out. It would also be cool if all the battles were not all main stream parks. I should also note this is for rides within Australia only.
  7. DWs park map has now been updated and removed TRRR, Big Brother studio and interestingly the Log Ride too. The train circuit has been changed, the LEGO Store has been added, as well as a tiger image on the billboard where the Cub Kindy is.
  8. Dreamworld via facebook: Thought it might be a good idea to share some photos of the park over the years in its own thread, so please share any old photos you have of the park
  9. Dreamworld' future remains unknown, so why don't we discuss the uncertain future of this theme park or maybe the whole industry!
  10. Seven news tweeted a video that seemed to show a carriage stuck just over the top of the lift hill.
  11. Recently The Green Lantern's safety systems engaged due to a computer glitch.(I don't know much about what happened because they had not realised more information yet)It also malfunctioned years ago
  12. Dreamworld' future remains unknown, so why don't we discuss the uncertain future of this theme park or maybe the whole industry!
  13. Just noticed that Whitewater World changed their logo on social media last week by removing the original 'coat of arms' logo featuring the purple/green checkboard escutcheon which had 2 surfboards forming a cross on it as well as 2 dogs on either side of it licking it. It was meant as an allusion to the Australian coat of arms. They also added the spiky blue sphere in the background as well as changing the words from 'By Dreamworld' to 'Only At Dreamworld' (maybe indicating possible future incorporation of the park as officially part of Dreamworld?): Given the timing of the change (particularly since the logo has barely changed since the park's opening), could it be related to what @www worker 2.0 talked about last month?: Logo changes would definitely require consultation between upper management & the marketing team after all. Marketing teams don't just change logos without the approval of higher management.
  14. VR TAKES OFF AT DREAMWORLD! This morning we're proud to announce that in an Australian first we're previewing a locally-developed VR experience called 'SkyRider' on #BIG9 Thrill Ride the Mick Doohan Motocoaster! With CEO Craig Davidson & the coasters namesake Mick Doohan in pole position for testing, it's easy to see that it's a jaw dropping experience Tailor made by the team at Dreamworld with partners Rotor Studios & Samsung - the experience is truly one of a kind and one we couldn't be more proud of Over the September school holidays we'll be inviting a limited number of guests per day (conditions apply*) to preview SkyRider in preparation for the official launch later this year I still like the idea of horse racing but at least I got the ride right.

  16. ^ Thanks Alright, so a while back in one of these threads you may remember we were getting some messages from Dreamworld's social media team that I was relaying between them and Parkz. Then they went quiet and I didn't hear back from them for a while. I got a nice reply from them on Tuesday which I got sidetracked and didn't mention on here. You may also remember that I asked for photos which were not provided. The reason being the maintenance guys were under pressure to get everything done on time and now obviously they're still quite busy with a few rides down currently. That's fair enough. If it wasn't for the crappy weather outlook for the weekend I'd try to get some pics myself (of whatever is safe to do so obviously). The person who's been responding to me calls themselves "The Original Belinda" and there is a possibility they will join the forums in an official capacity if time permits. The good news is, judging by the response above, they already know we're a little crazy. They also know that they're going to be inundated with questions around Eureka which will get old and annoying fast and quite possibly make them run for the hills, so lets try to play nice. Also a lot of us, myself included, don't always have a perfect track record with new members making claims they're from a particular area/park/team/where ever. So, if they do join officially let's try not to be too rude to them, and maybe, just maybe we can develop a great relationship with them like we have with Mark Shaw. Finally, just to get the obvious out of the way so no one else has to.... Dear Original Belinda 1 - Why did the mine ride close? 2 - When will the mine ride open again? 3 - Why hasn't the mine ride opened already? 4 - Why haven't you gotten rid of the motocoaster? 5 - Why haven't you moved the vintage cars back where they were and gotten rid of the motocoaster? 6 - Why are you still reading this when you could be reopening the mine ride? 7 - Is the mine ride open yet?
  17. Hi i'm on a trip from Japan with my friends. we want to visit one of the theme park. we are looking for thrill rides. which is a better option for us?
  18. If any of you saw the episode of Shark Tank last night on channel 10, you would've seen Lynton V. Harris propose his latest interactive attraction, Sharknado Alive! For anyone who doesn't know, Lynton is the owner of the Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company, which has created various attractions & scare mazes for theme parks and other establishments across Australia and the United States, including the AVPX and Zombie Evilution attractions for Dreamworld. If you want to watch the attraction proposal, skip to 33:15 - http://tenplay.com.au/channel-ten/shark-tank/season-2/episode-1 There weren't many details released about the attraction itself, apart from this one concept image. TL/DR - I'm 99% certain that this Sharknado attraction will be replacing Zombie Evilution in 2017. So why do I think this is coming to Dreamworld? Since Laser Tag has been "retired," and now that Zombie Evilution only operates as a scare maze for special events, the attraction's closure is imminent. It wouldn't make sense to stop operating the scare maze before the final screamworld event (19th November) - so I believe that the scare maze will cease operation after the Screamworld event on the 19th of November, in preparation for it's transformation into Sharknado Alive! ready for the 2017 April holidays period. It took 166 days (31st March - 12th September) for the conversion from AVPX to Zombie Evilution, however, as it's highly unlikely that laser tag will return (and all of the technical side related to that), the conversion from Zombie Evilution to Sharknado shouldn't take as long. Assuming that the attraction's final night of operation is the 19th of November, this gives the park 133 days before the April school holidays, commencing April 1st 2017, to convert the attraction. To further back this up, in an email I received previously, Dreamworld has said: While this leaves room for doubt, the Sharknado theme actually fits into the Ocean Parade area (unlike the previous attractions [Aliens, Predators and Zombies]) - the infrastructure is already there for the attraction to be installed, and Dreamworld already has an ongoing relationship with the Sudden Impact company, I don't see why this wouldn't happen, but I can understand any doubt there may be. I'd love to hear what you all think of this
  19. So after a very long absence I finally made a trip to the Gold Coast this past weekend (Admittedly it was for a Roller Derby tournament) and decided to take a few extra days to get reacquainted with the parks. Movie World I hopped off the plane and headed straight to Movie World. I was dissapointed that Superman was under maintenance but I haven't had a chance to ride Green Lantern yet. I was really annoyed when rocking up to the front gate to see that Green Lantern was also not operating. It would have been nice if they had this information on the website or on their hotline (of which I checked both). Not wanting to really visit having 2 major attractions down I decided to cut my losses and head over to Dreamworld. Dreamworld To say it's been a while since i've been here would be an understatement. The last time I visited The Giant Drop was only new. Overall though I was pretty impressed with the park. It was clean and tidy and everything was operating. I was very unimpressed with HWSW as they only had 1 ride op to man the ride. Cycles were taking upwards of 5 minutes and the wait was around 45 minutes. It was still just as rough as I remember it being back when it was a Luna Park the last time I rode it. Aside from the Rapids and Log ride everything else was a pretty short wait. The highlight of the first day was definitely the ride op on BuzzSaw. That guy really enjoys his job, my favourite quote from him to a girl who was screaming BEFORE the ride even started was "Don't worry if you fall i'll catch you". Day 2 he was working on Pandemonium and was cracking wise the whole time. Sea World What happened to Sea World? I was very dissapointed overall with Sea World. The first impression that they made was terrible. I got there about an hour after opening time and had to wait 45 minutes just to get inside. I was handed the usual promotional stuff and a computer printed map on a piece of A4 paper. With the food court area getting the new roof getting around was difficult and very poorly signed, Jet Rescue seems to be abandoned in a corner all by itself (It was a walk on). Most of the rides were a walk on but I couldn't help thinking that there really wasn't much to do for the older crowd. There's certainly lots of rides for kids but not for teenagers or adults. The animal exhibitions though were great. One thing I did notice, sorry if this has already been posted somewhere, but there seemed to be some work going on around the old Sea Viper site. So that was my quick trip up to the Gold Coast. Overall things were OK, not great but OK. One thing that I did find interesting though through talking with the ride ops was that the parks were all on offpeak mode now that the QLD school holidays were over. When I mentioned that it was only QLD that was back at school and that most states were still off on holidays they mentioned that management only looked at QLD school holidays. I thought that this was a bit short sighted seeing as many of the tourists on the Gold Coast, hell even from less than an hour away across the border, were still on holidays.
  20. Hey Its the first time I have started a new thread, so if I have done something wrong please accept my apologies and either delete or move. I stumbled across this today, it was posted on youtube yesterday and is basically a review from two people who visited Dreamworld in December last year. I thought this video may help some people planning to visit Dreamworld in future. "On the 6th December 2015, we visited Dreamworld while on holiday in Brisbane. Coming from New Zealand, we weren't used to the strict regulations around rider rules at theme parks in Australia, as our local theme park does not have a problem with us riding all the rides. We created this video to share our experience with Dreamworld as we were disappointed with how we were dealt with on the day. We hope that from this people can become more aware of the problems they may face when visiting theme parks in Australia. If you would like to contact us about this video, please do at wheelywackyadventures@gmail.com" Youtube Video Review https://youtu.be/lDfF8PMU_4g
  21. Just spent the first half of the week up on the Gold Coast, post-Schoolies and pre-Christmas. I've got some interesting developments from Sea World, Wet'n'Wild and Dreamworld, and I'll be headed to WhiteWater World and Movie World tomorrow and Saturday. Pics are coming, my phone is glitching at the moment. Sea World was seemingly running on half-capacity to try to make everything perfect for peak season. The SpongeBob Coaster spent the first half of the day closed. New Kids' World is pretty awesome, and includes the Zamperla Demolition Derby that for some reason, Parkz lists as "announced". Storm Coaster suffered a moderate technical glitch which saw the ride closed for most of the day, and mechanics climbing the lift hill on foot. When I rode later, the lift hill had decreased in speed dramatically. Further, Ray Reef was closed for maintenance, which appeared to be some sort of bird-proofing. Wet'n'Wild had the Constrictor closed for some unseen form of maintenance or renovation. The entire area was surrounded in worksite fencing, complete with "DANGER: CONSTRUCTION SITE" signs. Any ideas? SurfRider broke down around midday, but I was assured by a staff member that it was a minor glitch, and they just wanted to make sure, what with peak season around the corner and all. There were a LOT of primary school pool parties on... So much for going a week early to avoid the lines... Contrary to the other two, Dreamworld was running full-pelt, with every ride, bar the Cyclone for obvious reasons, operating for the whole day. However, all of the special effects, notably in the Tower of Terror and BuzzSaw, had been replaced by annoyingly out-of-context music videos. Rather than your average bone-chilling wait for the Tower of Terror, I was put through Magic's "Rude" and some other cheery songs that really ruined the pre-ride feel. Construction on the Motorsport Area is going ahead nicely it would seem. The "Grid Burger Bar" is looking fairly complete, and there's a lot of promising construction going on. I couldn't catch a glimpse of any activity around the dormant Cyclone tracks, though. I'll update from the other two parks on Saturday night. Cheerio.
