  1. Next time something goes down and the reporters ask everybody on the way out if you were on it somebody should make some bullshit up to the reporters. "Yea I was like hanging from my feet and like, the park was worried I was getting dehydrated so like, they had to hook me up and like, rehydrate me through my ass because like, it was the only hole pointing upwards.” "They like, told me to keep my mouth shut so I wouldn't like, seep"

  2. But seriously, there's a small platform they winch up to the train and creates a "floor" for the riders to stand on.

  3. I was going to "like" your post, but after reading that interview transcript, I'm crying on the inside and outside and couldn't possibly bring myself to hit "like" again on something.

  4. fine. good for them - i'm still unlikely to use it when I have a one year old if the walkway can accommodate it without completely blocking it. If i've just brought a stroller for say - a 3 year old capable of walking about by himself but just so he doesn't tire out his legs, i'm sure he could do without the stroller in a restaurant for half an hour - but younger children - especially those not yet walking have little patience to be in a highchair, and the stroller is both more comfortable, convenient for taking a nap if appropriate (and trust me - the parents pray its appropriate), as well as carrying all of the child's food, drinks, cleaning supplies, change of clothes etc etc. I'm not parking that in an out of the way parking area - but by all means will do so when the stroller is nothing more than a leg-saver.

  5. I actually find Arkham seats to be quite comfortable - the slight lean-back tilt of the seats has you reclining a little. If the train still had the old restraints, I wouldn't be so forgiving, as it would have been an effort to do much more than look straight ahead. With the new harnesses however - you'll find the many people who have commented on them (in the arkham retheme thread a while back) noted that whilst they were tight, they generally weren't uncomfortable until the end of the ride - after they've been jostled around through the track. The rubber chest harnesses are very comfortable when first applied, and whilst on an uphill slope, you wouldn't be pressed against them - so any 'tightness' at this stage wouldn't be something most people would even notice. It is these factors which lead me to compare it to an airline seat, and I don't think that's playing it down. I'll now take you to task on 'playing it up' - with your reference to being "in direct sun" - this is from page one of this very thread: As you can see - the structure provides almost complete shade to every rider, with 'at best' direct sun on an outside arm or leg. Needless to say, this particular topic of conversation arose because of your erroneous statement that they were upside down, and the comments in reply were simply to point out they weren't upside down, they were seated right way up, in a similar fashion to an airline seat. I didn't go into any further detail over environmental impacts such as heat or sunlight, and didn't downplay anything except for the sensationalist claim made by a foreign media outlet that they were inverted.

  7. Ok I have a bit of an update. This resort was knocked back last year and I forgot to tell you about it. The owners are trying again so it was in the news. DEVELOPERS of a $500 million resort and apartment project next to Dreamworld have asked for their own development code to get around zoning they say was created by Gold Coast City Council by mistake. Gordon Corp’s $500 million proposal for high-rise apartments, resort hotel, apartments, shops and tourist attraction next to Dreamworld was released for public consultation this week, with proponents seeking to build three towers, the highest with 27 storeys above a podium. Planners for the project have applied for their site to have its own development framework and height limits, and note the Tower of Terror next-door is 119m. They write in their application that the site’s designation as rural living or open space was done “in error” and that it was designated for commercial industry by the former Albert Shire due to its proximity to the M1 and other key infrastructure. Height guidelines are currently controversial in other parts of the Gold Coast, particularly on The Spit at Main Beach, where ASF has proposed a $3 billion resort and casino with towers as high as 45 storeys. The ASF site is in an area currently zoned for three storeys and is next to Sea World, which hosts the 28m Storm Coaster, which is the equivalent of about eight storeys. City Planning committee deputy chair Donna Gates said the two sites were not comparable and that the Coomera site’s rural and open space zoning needed an update. “I’m surprised was not rectified in the City Plan because clearly that’s not an appropriate zoning for it, so I would be supportive of assisting them with anything they might need to move it forward,” she said. Cr Gates said the committee would look at the proposed building height in the context of the Tower of Terror that “dwarfs everything” being nearby. “I think it’s a real positive forward step, close to the theme parks there’s been a glaring need for accommodation for some time,” she said. The Coomera development would join a host major projects proposed in the city’s north, and is close to the $1 billion Westfield Coomera Town Centre and $500 million marine precinct expansion. Public consultation closes February 27

  10. no, thats pretty usual - I just usually go back and edit it if i see it - i re-read things again after I post them. In this case I saw 'fil' but was about to head off for work and decided it got the point across and didn't care. I don't see what the problem is with the rest of the first line - it reads ok to me... ...and capitals at the start of a sentence \ paragraph are dependent on what computer i'm on - some auto capitalise for me, and some dont. Again - it reads fine, so i didn't care.

  11. I think that's playing it down a bit too much. I find Arkham one of the least comfortable seats to be in, add on top of that the tight harness, being 20-30 odd meters in the air and in direct sun (granted the structure would provide some partial shade at times) but to compare it to being in a airplane seat for 90 minutes? That's a stretch. As most people on here are enthusiasts we’re more likely to play issues down like this and may even be happy that you were one of the stuck riders and had to be rescued. However for the average punter that goes to Movie World, being stuck on that thing for 90 minutes in the near middle of a summer’s day, while likely on holidays and then having to be rescued by Fire and Rescue, probably with ropes and other equipment high above the ground, would be an ordeal. It's no wonder it gets in the media. While the media does go over the top with these reports, I find this forum then goes a bit over the top the other way – not directed at anyone, just a general observation from a relative new comer J

  14. Leaving the park with my family, channel 9 chopper hovering above the park, me taking a video on my MOBILE PHONE of the green lantern (couldn't really care about the simple safety issue going on with AA right now) and was told by Mr Security Guard Chris to stop filming immediately and leave the premises immediately. Nice way to treat paying guests Chris! Let me reiterate - I'm on my personal mobile phone taking video of GL for the kids and was told to bugger off more or less. Thanks Chris.

  15. Hope they get a refund for the VR lol. I've walked up and down those lift hill stairs, not very scary. They're getting a part Star Tour for free lol. Problem is the perception of safety is very negative among those less knowledgeable about amusement parks at the moment. And this beat up doesn't help.

  20. ToT is definitely open, I went on it last night, got there about 7pm. Buzzsaw, again, was walk on. Short wait for other rides but ToT, especially early in the night had a fair queue. I went to ToT after the fireshow and only had a 10 minute wait, Fireshow was pretty good, went for 10 minutes, so the night was worth the trip down there from Brisbane. Does Buzzsaw always have the shortest queue, I think it's one of the best rides there so I'm always a bit perplexed that it seems to have the shortest queue - maybe because there's nothing else down that end open at the moment....?

  21. So just watvhing gold coast news pretty much slamming the GC parks. They were talking of AA then said this comes 3 months after the tragic event at dreamworld. Really? Unfortunate event at dreamworld, a freak accident but these rides are designed to stop if theres something wrong. Just like a car. Over the media

  22. Playing devils advocate for a minute.. anything that involves members of the general public being "rescued" from hanging upside down on a ride by emergency services is indeed news. Hanging upside down for lengthy periods of time can be quite uncomfortable if your not used to it. I expect we'll see references to the DreamWorld tragedy for another year or two before it drops off peoples radar completely. That asides - whether this needed breaking news and live crosses etc.. slow news day maybe? Lastly - i wish these parks would give their CEO/General Managers some basic media training. I'm sure it was just nerves, and it's easy for me to criticize from behind a keyboard, but he didn't exactly exude confidence. Head down reading straight off a piece of paper a few sentences that he could surely have memorized. Once he got going and answering questions he was a little better, though still a little awkward.
