  1. A rather extensive passholder email was sent out. Because it’s so extensive, I’ll summarise it here: - Giant Drop has been delayed, due to weather & finding “some opportunities to further extend the life of one of Dreamworld's most iconic rides”. They also talk about repainting being completed, and that they’re currently planning to install the lights. Images are attached: Giant Drop gondolas Giant Drop nameplate Dreamworld lights - Mentions the work done with Dreamland, and how they’re planning on commencing work on Escape Coaster, Dreamworld Dodgems (both referred to by those names in the email, not the new names as of yet), plus the Big Red Boat & Planes rides. Serpent Slayer’s gondolas are currently being painted. Dreamworld Theatre & the Tree House are planned to reopen for the Easter School Holidays. Bananas Carousel is open, but not in its final stage, with further work happening in the coming months. They caution that weather & other factors can impede construction, as they did with GD, and to check the maintenance schedule before planning visits. Images, again, are attached: Bananas Carousel Dreamworld Theatre sign Serpent Slayer gondolas Kenny statue Belinda statue (assumedly for the Tree House sign, as it resembles concept art. If so, it’s a detailed 3 dimensional sign! On the Gold Coast!) Entrance sign - Finally, they mention park atmosphere additions, namely roaming entertainers, roaming animal keepers w/ native wildlife, and Foam Parties near Gold Coaster (saw them when I went, it’s a staff member shooting foam from a cannon into a sectioned-off area of path adjacent to the toilets near Gold Coaster). Says there’s more to come.

  2. Pre-ride videos fit into a swiss-cheese model of risk and attraction inefficiency mitigators. No one should ever expect one voice-over or one video to capture 100% of everyone's attention. Instead, when you pair it thoughtfully with other things (clear signage, human-centric physical design etc.) what you get is hopefully a situation where ride operators need only assist a few guests with each ride cycle and don't need to be shouting information at everyone in a passive aggressive tone (something our parks do extremely well, IMO.) For Leviathan, I think adding some screens to the circular queue might be the way to go. Probably no VO needed, just some good visuals with subtitles detailing the steps. The stairs would be a great place to pop a booming VO (Leviathan's voice?) that could tell guests to start "preparing themselves for their greatest challenge" etc. etc. etc. Finally, a couple of well-placed physical signs integrated into the loose article bins that don't obstruct the digital displays would be great.

  3. Thank goodness someone said it. God turning the theming screens into information displays is even worse than operators shouting over the prerecorded spiels.

  4. I always thought the best comparison was Green Lantern Versus Abyss: For what its worth, this is probably the best i could come up with: DCR vs Leviathan – High Tier Coasters SE vs ST – Large Launches MCMC vs JR – Straddle Coasters GC vs Big Dipper – In effect comparing the old with its replacement (In the day you probably would have done GC vs Arkham or GC vs Sea Viper) Scenic Railway vs Wild Mouse – Wooden Classics Surfrider vs Project Zero – Compact shuttles Bug Run vs Little nipper – Small Family Coasters Sapphire speedster vs Mining Race Coaster – Medium Family Coasters Boomerang vs Road Runner – Larger Family Coasters Speedy Beetle Vs Crazy Coaster - SBFs TNT vs Escape From Madagascar – SFCs Dragon Express Vs Boating School Blast – Zamperla ST80 Abyss Vs Green Lantern – 8 seaters, Beyond Vertical Scooby vs Dingo Racer – Steel Mice, but a poor comparison. Still leaves Storm and the thing at Green Valley Farm unaccounted for.

  5. You're underwater, in leviathan's lair. there are no screens, just an air bubble where you're standing with the leviathan swimming around the windows surrounding the station. You can't PIP if there's no P for you to PIP in. it's not about whether there is safety requirements, its about where you can have safety info and rider information, and where you can't. Anything that breaks the immersion you've just created is not an option. I even suggested earlier putting a screen in the hall before the sliding door. All riders about to enter have nothing better to do, and provided you can get the volume up loud enough to overcome a roaring train overhead, you've got a captive audience. say it with me: PUTTING. 👏 IT. 👏 IN. 👏 THE. 👏 STATION. 👏 IS. 👏 THE. 👏 DUMBEST. 👏 IDEA. 👏 EVER. 👏

  6. This maintenance window is now longer than the construction period of most new rides. That could be said for SDSC as well I guess, maybe it’s a Queensland thing…

  9. They still have an animation showing the seatbelts and a safety spiel when dispatching so its fair lol. ********** But lets be honest, if they had opened the ride and had put safety footage on the underwater screens you probably would have said it was crap and spoiling the immersion. Safety videos are ok on smaller screens approaching a station. But not on screens and projections that are being used for atmosphere and theming. Note, both of these examples are from Sweden.

  10. Let’s just PIP the underwater window looking out into the ocean. Jesus christ thank god we don’t have old mate here working on attraction design. 🤦‍♂️

  11. People press it all the time and the staff have to call people back out of the tunnel.

  12. If the train reaches a certain spot on the platform and there is a unsecure harness the train just stops. From memory I think they can multimove trains from the section after the end block brake to the end of the station. I did see a few riders that were too large for the ride, they tried to secure them but couldn't.. then they just walked off - while the train was still moving. Hagride at Universal is even more impressive - the trains get so close to each other in the station (next to a walkway that moves at the same speed as the trains) that you can't tell what car you're in (order of the train) until you either read the numberplate infront of you, or until it reaches the end of the station. The ride attendants have two RFID touch points (like ST but useful). One marks the car as secure, the other re-opens the restraint.

  13. I told myself I would brave it when I went with my partner in early September and it was under maintenance. The saving grace was that the park was essentially empty of people and we got on Iron Gwazi 8 times in a row. Still, one day I will get to go on a drop tower that faces the floor. One day!

  14. For force, I'd say Hair Raiser... for the Oh S**T factor... Giant Drop. However my all time fave drop tower was Space Probe 7. The theming etc just really made it something special. IMO it was one of Australia's best themed rides, right up there with Bermuda Triangle and Wild West Falls (pre 2004 fire).

  15. On the money, that's definitely it. Visibly got the same OTSR's, here's to hoping that changes to the updated restraints on Timmy's Half-Pipe Havoc (lap bar) before opening.
