Forgot the laughing face - as @pin142 said, it is know for being source of the due to the weather and large masses of people from different regions. Basically the rest of South East Qld (except Gold Coast) get the public holiday on the Monday, which is my concern.

So I've got Monday off for the Ekka public holiday (Moreton Bay Regional Council). Family is going to the Ekka, but I haven't had my flu shot so am avoiding it. I am thinking of heading down to Movie World by myself. Does anyone have any experience from previous years as to what it is like at the park on the Ekka Monday holiday from previous years? Aside from the absence of open soft drink refill stations of course 😄

Gotham drink refill station closes during off-peak

They've thrown big money at a new ride, only to have a tragedy occur down the road which has tarnished all GC parks and impacted on cash flow. They've tried to up the gate takings with the OnePass, which is failing it seems as they are now doing an AfterPay style pay it off over four payments, plus value adding stuff to the pass to try and attract people. -
Major changes on the way for amusement ride safety

Removal of paint on critical areas, such as welds, rather than the entire structure? Non-Destructive Testing probably already has an answer to this problem. Don't forget, that release was written by a media adviser to be read by a politician. It doesn't even sound like they've decided on exactly what is in or out of the standards. -
Gotham drink refill station closes during off-peak

I assumed the self serve at Gotham where closed during the quiet seasons, to force people to actually pay for their refills for the day (as there was no system to check if you'd paid last time I used it). Yes, last time around I was thwarted at my attempt to not have to pay for overpriced post-mix. 😐 If Costco can sell ~1200mL of Pepsi post-mix products for $1.29, then $7.99 a day for about the same amount over 3 refills is a rip off. -

I thought Pimpama was just a classy name for south Beenleigh. Like Forest Lakes is for West Inala 😂 -

It's her married name https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Grace Born Ignazia Graziella Farfaglia, she chooses to go by Grace for a first name. -
Lot 2 & Lot 3 Dreamworld Parkway are land valued by the State Government at $10,500,000 each. They are two blocks ~27,000 square meters near the roundabout on the way into the Dreamworld carpark. Lot 103 Whitewater way, which covers WhitewaterWorld, Dreamworld, the gum tree leaf farm and a bit up near the Foxwell Rd/Whitewater Way roundabout, plus the creek, is 510,000 square meters. It has no land value listed. Ballpark it off the above and it is worth $195,000,000. It would be more as the percentage of creek is much lower. So at least $210 million, unimproved (ie nothing on it) land value. This link might work to show you what I mean. http://cityplanmaps.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/CityPlan/index.html?search=124887 The three Lot's combined, sold for $108 mill in 1998 to Ardent. That price would include the rides and structures. It was 72 hectares then. It has been since been subdivided (the bit on Foxwell Rd at the railway side) and is now 55 hectares in size.

The value of the park, if they went to sell it now compared to a year ago has dropped ~75 million. Kind of like you buy a house for $500,000, then a sewerage treatment plant gets built next door. You try to sell, but can now only get $250,000 for it. Though in this case it is the culture and perception of the park that stinks, not what's over the fence. -
This would be the mini sideshow alley type event they used to hold at North Lakes prior to Ikea being built? I think last year it was at Strathpine Shopping Centre, or something similar at least.

We visited Alton in 2010. Th13teen was a fun ride, quite enjoyed it. Air (Galatica) broke down as it did, but we waited. Really enjoyed that sense of flying. Spinball Whizzer was fun, agreed on the movement of the structure, it was doing that in 2010! Oblivion - remember getting up the top, thinking the view was amazing and then "oh sh*t, why am I doing this" on the reverse chain at the top of the drop. Exhilarating as you plunge into the darkness, but all that energy gained is wasted with the shortness. A real one trick pony. Ran out of time for anything else, never got to ride Nemesis. 😩

Coming soon 'The Void' - looks like an empty shed, smells like an empty shed. Experience it this Summer at Dreamworld -
Most likely the second set of bogies. They swap the seats from one set to the other during maintenance, then take their time to rebuild the out of service set.

@Brendo88 I'm slightly shorter (5'10"), 112kg, ~102cm waist but with a bit of a belly which gets in the way of the harness. I just fail the test seat, but pass on the ride. I can get a green but can't hold the harness in that position. If you fail on the test seat, wiggle about and then have someone push on it to see how you go. On Superman, as it pins you on the thighs not around the waist, I have about 4 cm clear of the yellow thread if that helps.

I certainly think Roachie's comment needed the quote, otherwise it is just a random sentence which makes sense on it's own.

Those laws wouldn't apply anyway, as they do not cover guests, only employees. Was discussed on TV or radio (can't remember which) the other morning -
I think he is referring to the brown staining on the inside, that follows the water flow. Could it be fine dirt built up in the surface of the slide? Does the fibreglass slowly erode away with the friction from the water and inner tubes?

I recall with the Harambe gorilla incident, tranqs where dismissed in the events afterwards, due to the time taken to come into effect and the possible adverse reactions from the animal. Ie he might have been calm, but once shot with the tranq, could have become aggressive as well as having a period of time before being sedated. An instant kill was seen as the only option.

I've seen that done too by electricians. Often on surfaces that will be later covered though.
