  1. It may have more thrilling elements, but when speaking about “family” thrill rides, inversions usually move a ride out of that category. Imo nothing with an inversion will ever be family friendly ride My son is 10, and he’ll do superman without a problem but GL is a no go due to inversions, and his entire friend group is the same. Many do Rivals but won’t go near GL. I’d argue the slow arduous nature of the inversions on GL make it a tougher sell to younger kids than say Cyclone that is a quick and done inversion
  2. Nothing with multiple inversions is “family” imo You’ve left Rivals off all your rankings i’d consider GL far more “thrill” than Superman - considerably more
  3. Security should remove them from the park. Morons
  4. I’d consider 2 helicopters colliding in mid-air and 4 people dying as being on the high end of seriousness….
  5. Horrible. I won’t speculate or add to the rumour mill with what I have read or heard from some people in the vicinity. my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved including the first responders and witnesses
  6. Two helicopters are understood to have collided and crashed in the Broadwater near Sea World theme park on the Gold Coast. Emergency services are rushing to a “major incident” on the Broadwater which occurred around 2pm. A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed several crews had been called to an “aviation incident” near SeaWorld just after 2pm Monday. “We’ve been called to a reported helicopter collision near (SeaWorld) in the past 10 to 15 minutes,” he said. Helicopter pilot Scott Menzies was flying over the Broadwater at 2.15pm and said the scene “didn’t look good. “I don’t know what has happened but it doesn’t look good,” he told the Bulletin. “Emergency services are there now.” Queensland Ambulance Service said multiple crews were on scene. “Multiple QAS resources and other emergency services are on the scene of a major incident involving two helicopters at 1.59pm,” they said. “No further details at this time.” Witnesses said they had seen two helicopters collide. “Just witnessed two helicopters crash into each other at SeaWorld,” Dang Nguyen said. Julie Gill said she had “witnessed two helicopters crash”.
  7. I find that entirely impossible. 7mins from unload to launch in jet rescue? It’s been one train ops for 12+ months. i was there last week and didn’t see a train dispatch outside 2-3mins from unload - it was super efficient due to the ease of restraints. That’s been my similar experience every time I’ve visited the park Huh?
  8. I think you may find that is a typo and meant to read Jan 30th to April 1st. those are their off peak hours
  9. Let’s be honest, the only people going to the theme parks this week are tourists, or locals lacking any form of sense or foresight.
  10. Whilst it may be the biggest size wise, GD is hardly their “ biggest “ ride. No one is going to complain it’s closed when it’s well advertised and advised that it’s closed for Reno’s which can be seen even from outside the park
  11. It’s certainly in the top 5 in Qld no doubt. I probably need a couple more rides of it and Steel Taipan to make a proper adjudication as I’ve only ridden each once. if having to rank now I’d go: DCR - SE - Levi - ST - JR —————————————————— As for Trident, I don’t know how they fix the loading but it’s a shit show. been in the line for 50mins and they run 4 cycles. No breakdowns, that’s just how long it takes. the fact the middle seat can only accommodate people under 140cm is ridiculous, as you then get groups of 4 of 5 that then need 2 or 3 rows of seats. Then screwing around sorting them out, doing up everyone’s belts. I mean why not just check they are done up like Sky Voyager rather than ride ops doing them up for you. Then you’ve got people with glasses who they have to hand out glasses straps to and wait while they attach them, and then detach them at the end. single rider queue doesn’t move (I’m fine with that, it’s a risky choice) but the fact they go around and ask the existing people “are you ok with someone sitting next to you?” Is just strange. it’s horrendous
  12. Just had my first experience on Leviathan. wow it packs a pinch from start to finish! Loved the intensity of it. Haven’t ridden a wooden coaster since Bush Beast so it’s been a while, but wow! Was also cool to take my son on his first ever woodie. operations are still a mess. We were in the queue (which was outside the entrance to the actual ride) at 9:15am so about 20th in line. They let us through to the external queue at about 9:50, internal queue at 10:20. The sorter seemed to be making up a system as he went along, moving people from the normal queue into the backwards queue to group them in a haphazard way. Once you go through the internal you get the annoyance of thinking you are first in line so will get front seats only to be told the train fills from the rear so if you first in line you’re in the back row. As it turned out we ended up in row 2. the pre-ride show is great, scared about 3 kids off the ride before it left the station haha. Best themed ride queue in the country by a mile, and a lot of fun. only one train running. You end up seeing the pre-ride twice as they as letting 2 train loads into the station at a time.
  13. I was there last night too and it was easily double as busy as the last time I went 2 months ago. there was more people at the markets than there was at the actual park last weekend when we went. great to see it doing well though
  14. given the land size, I think it would struggle to match DCRs track length
  15. A $300k car has the same mechanical requirements and checks as a $30k car….
  16. 2 days to rip out and paint over anything dreamworks related
  17. I can guarantee you that no ride is going to be called “flying monkeys”
  18. I’m not sure they know what they are talking about. There has been a previous discussion about this before, and I believe one gondola was replaced/refurbed a couple of years back, but no other changes have been made. the scope of works the park presented made no mention of gondola changes
  19. I’ve always been one to stick up for Motorcoaster and say it has its place in the park, after watching and timing cycles today from the queue line, at an average cycle dispatch of 7.42 mins, and then how rough as guts the ride experience now is, it’s time for it to go and free up a substantial plot for future development. the restraints are just too finicky and having multiple people each load who they don’t suit, then requiring rechecking of every harness after they are released to let people out is just an absolute pain in the ass. I don’t blame the ride ops, it’s the train design, and management for not staffing to run 2 trains.
  20. Tailspin down for unexpected issues, and now Claw too. was in the line and the ride had just begun (first swing) then they brought it to a stop and got everyone off. guy in queue next to me said to his family “let me guess, there are high winds…” Good to see that high wind closures have quickly become part of the theme park vernacular even at other parks…
  21. Wonder how payment will work as the old gold coin isn’t as prevalent in peoples pockets as it once was. I’m assuming it will have tap card payments - $2 for 2mins or something similar
  22. Can a mod fix the spelling mistake in the thread title? Because it seems poor spelling is contagious. Don’t all phones have auto spell check these days??
  23. Carnivalle at MW was fantastic. whilst it’s not horrible at SW I think it’s fallen into repetitive mode like FN & WC had over the last few years. By all accounts WC is a marked improvement this year (I’ll be checking it out next week) so hopefully Carnivalle get a decent update/refresh for 2024
