  1. Promotional video for the dc rivals has been released but no set date of the school holidays its opening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2nWv0YQY9Y&feature=share
  2. From the 21st-27th August, the normal day time parade at MW will be pushed back from 3:30 to 5pm.
  3. I also got the park today and was impressed. I look at the top of Batwing and think this coaster will be the same height. Fence at Green Lantern isn't blocked of either so here are a couple of pics.
  4. Good evening sorry if this has already touched base on here... but i am just wondering what is going on with wild west falls ..... is it usually closed for this amount of time for maintenance or are they doing a refurb???
  5. So this is a speculation thread along with predictions of how this would fit in Fright Nights along with a wishlist. So this is my first prediction for a maze in Fright Nights. Since its debut in 2011 American Horror Story has been a critically acclaimed series that it has been the most wanted IP in Halloween events. So how would a American Horror Story maze fit in Fright Nights? Well since its a anthology series it would start with Murder House were guest encounter Rubber Man, Tate Langdon, Pigman, Infanta, and others, the next part of the maze would Freakshow that guest encounter Elsa Mars' troupe of Freaks since its Halloween you might encounter the troupe of Hell along with there leader Edward Mordrake & his demon face along with being stalked by the season's iconic character Twisty. Lastly guest check into the Hotel Cortez formerly own by the Countess along with its ghostly residents, and beware of the demon hidden not under the bed, but within the bed. That's my first prediction of Fright Nights 2017.
  6. CLARK Kirby’s career has come full circle since, as a child, he helped clean the cinema of his then-fledging family business Village Roadshow. Village Roadshow commenced operating in 1954, owning and managing one of the first drive-in cinemas in Australia in the Melbourne suburb of Croydon. “I have a long history with the theme parks her — my grandfather Rock Kirby started Village Roadshow, back in 1954 in Victoria, the drive-in cinema down in Melbourne. “Entertainment is well and truly in the blood. My original background was in the cinema industry — I like to say I worked there when I was four years old when I started to clean the amusement rides down at Sorrento. “I worked every school holidays for the family in the cinema we had down there. “Then I completed one degree up here at Bond University and then went on to study at a number of other universities and ended up in investment banking associate director of mergers and acquisitions with UBS Investment “It was a great opportunity because I advised a lot of entertainment companies here in Australia — including PPL, Channel 7, News Corp. “It gave me a broadbased understanding of different business models and management styles within the entertainment world, some incredible companies. “It was very diverse, and very interesting trying to impart advice. “Then I came back and headed up corporate strategy for the group then since 2012 I’ve been chief operating officer of the Village Roadshow Group and sitting on the board of the theme park group. “In May this year I assumed the role of CEO and executive chairman of the theme park group. “Really because we do see it as our most important business and a business we see enormous growth in here and internationally.” What do you love about the Gold Coast? “I don’t believe there is any city in the world that can rival the family friendly lifestyle we enjoy here on the Gold Coast. “The weather and sublime beaches promote a healthy lifestyle and world class attractions mean kids and big kids will always be entertained and inspired. “I am also in awe of the incredible sense of pride and community spirit of the Gold Coast. “Initiatives like the Gold Coast Community Fund have been so generously embraced by locals wanting to help out those doing it tough.” What do you think can be done better on the Gold Coast? “We need to ensure there is sufficient planning and investment in essential infrastructure such as public transport and traffic management to deal with the existing congestion and to support and encourage private investment and development. “Coming from Melbourne, I have also seen the incredible power of sporting events to drive tourism and investment. “The Commonwealth Games is already electrifying the city and I would like to see a sustained calendar of major sporting events through the year.” In your travels, what have you seen being done elsewhere you think could work well here? “Universal City Walk and Downtown Disney are great success stories. “These retail, dining and entertainment precincts create a vibrant, fun and safe destination for all ages. “We are moving towards creating our own version of this alongside Movie World when Australia’s first Topgolf opens after the Commonwealth Games next year.” If money, laws, time and approvals were no issue, what is one big project you’d undertake tomorrow? “A cruise ship terminal — provided it meets all environmental requirements and the appropriate traffic mitigation solution is implemented, a cruise ship terminal would be phenomenal for the Tourism industry on the Gold Coast.” What conversations should Gold Coast movers and shakers be having? “We need to consider what our city is going to look like in five, 10, 20 years. Is our infrastructure going to be able to keep up with rate of growth predicted for the Gold Coast? “Where are the jobs going to come from and are we providing our kids with the relevant training and opportunities to succeed? “The long term future for the Spit is another important issue for me — there is so much uncertainty around development on The Spit. “We desperately need a masterplan to ensure that any development includes sufficient investment in infrastructure to ensure residents and existing businesses are not negatively impacted. “In the more immediate future, we need to ensure that we fully capitalise on the incredible exposure the Commonwealth Games will bring to the Gold Coast.” http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/opinion/village-roadshow-ceo-says-gold-coast-is-golden-but-needs-to-keep-up-with-the-rest-of-the-world/news-story/796eedbff960121e90826c41e46f17ee
  7. Wasn't sure how new these are but they definitely weren't there the last time I visited MW's actual website. Some of the pages for their rides have new backgrounds. GL: Batwing: SDSC: SE: WWF: DC Rivals: and Arkham Asylum: I think they are a nice new touch.
  8. I must admit that's what I thought when I saw it this morning. I will probably give it a try when it opens, but I doubt it'll be a regular one for me. Doesn't look much fun.
  9. I'm feeling a bit lazy so I'm not going to type out a back story on this one. Again, no prizes other than an internet high five and maybe a picture of a kitten. RULES: To make it fair for everyone, your design must be submitted using the template below The theme can be whatever you want as long as it's related to Fright Nights You can use whatever software you like to design it, as long as the design is submitted on this template You can submit as many designs as you like Entry and exit may be wherever you like Entries close 31 May 2017. If you submit an entry after that date, there is no guarantee of being awarded a high five or a kitten photo. You've got 2 sheds. You've got 2 mazes. A-maze me!
  10. An advertisement played on Hot Tomato today advertising a new Night Parade these school holidays at Movie World. The ad said “Come to the all-new parade these school holidays from 6 o’clock”. It also said new characters will be introduced to MW during the holidays. In the past MW, has run a special parade event like the one below. The advertisement did not mention a name for the parade so what do people think it will be?
  11. So similar to last year, WWF at MW has been scheduled for a lengthy 2 months of annual maintenance as well: Although I do recall last year the date was pushed back by another month in the end due to delays with getting the major refurb work done. I wonder if this means they will be fixing a lot of the smaller, non-working theming elements as well as maintenance on the ride itself? We can only hope 😁
  12. This Movie World hypercoaster rendering is cool... but it's not real A fan video put together that uses satellite photos of the construction site to extrapolate the layout of Warner Bros. Movie World's forthcoming hypercoaster is good fun, but it's nothing more than a guess. Click here to continue reading
  13. With the complete placement of the roller coaster's footings now visible on satellite imagery (thanks @themagician) we have a basic idea of the coaster's approximate layout. The competition here is to use this satellite image to design what you think the coaster layout will be. Use this image to design your layout. Prize The winner will receive their choice of any t-shirts from our range in stock, subject to size and design availability. Includes free postage within Australia. Rules Entries are open from now until when vertical construction commences. Once we have confirmation that supports and track are going up no more entries will be accepted. Your layout must be drawn onto the satellite image provided in this topic. No other images will be accepted. Do not crop, rotate or otherwise alter the original image. You can resize it if needed but please submit your entry at a resolution no less than 1000x578px. You can make multiple revisions and submissions but only your most recent will be judged. In the event that two different members submit identical or substantively close entries we will only judge the first. Winners will be judged once the track layout is completed and satellite footage of the finished track is available. Entry is open to all Parkz members. If you have inside knowledge obviously be aware of your contractual obligations and remember what the prize is. Do you really want to be the person that cheated for a $30 t-shirt? We recommend you get in early as vertical construction is likely to commence in the near future! Design suggestions Sketch in MS Paint, Photoshop or whatever other tool you are comfortable with. Above all keep it simple and clear. The layout should be a top-down 2D representation of the track. Don't show any vertical elevation or 3D projections. Portray your track layout with a single, clear, bold line in a colour that stands out from the satellite photo's colours. You do not need to mark support columns, station design or other elements. If you are circling and/or labeling elements, do so in a different contrasting colour to the main track layout. Use small arrows in a different colour to aide in showing the track direction, particularly where track overlaps. Use sparingly though. Everything you wish to say about your design should be included in the image; don't design it so it requires an accompanying post to describe or explain it. Judging The entries will be judged by the team of Parkz Community Leaders based on a number of criteria: Accuracy. How closely the layout matches the line of the track. At the same time we're not necessarily looking for pinpoint accuracy but rather a design that reasonably portrays the finished layout. Elements. Correct placement and labeling of key and unique ride elements such as station, lift hill, first drop, inversions, overbanked turns, brakes or any other elements. You don't need to label each and every drop, hill or turn but rather key features. We will be judging based on the images on their own without any outside explanation or description. Theme, colour and other elements of the experience wont be judged. We're not judging graphic design skills. Simply ensure your image is clear, concise and well labelled without being overly complicated or cluttered. Entries must be uploaded/attached to a post in this topic to be considered. Judging is final and entirely at the discretion of the Parkz Community Leaders. Example Here's an example of what we're looking for. You don't have to follow this template in terms of colours or anything, but just make it similarly clear. And of course it goes without saying that this is a comically wrong layout that you'd be wise to not use for inspiration given it ignores most of the footings. And obviously it's got the station and lift hill all wrong. Good luck!
  14. With vertical construction nearing a start, a question needs to be answered. If the maximum height of the new coaster at Movie World reaches only 196.8ft is it a Hypercoaster. My thoughts: The whole idea of a Hypercoaster is not a metric thing. The 200ft height is a number that was dreamt up. If somebody in Australia came up with the idea of a Hypercoaster the height wouldn't have been set to 200ft, it would have been set to 60m. (Would you call that 196.8ft or would you just round it off to 200ft) The problem of converting imperial to metric measurements is feet it will never give you a nice number which is what 200ft is. If they wanted it at 61 metres it would have been 200.1288ft which it is not. Therefore, RCDB has given it a height of 196.8ft not because it’s not a Hypercoaster but because it gives you a nice clean number of 60 metres.
  15. There's plenty of debate, but which side will you sit on?
  16. I thought we could use a specific thread to discuss the reopening of the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster, and everyone's thoughts on it post-reopening. As we all know, SDSC is scheduled to reopen on Boxing Day. The ride was testing this afternoon. Yes, this thread is a couple of days early, but I figured tomorrow being Christmas will likely be a quieter day on Parkz and this way a thread is ready to go without the talk being lost in other threads.
  17. Hi there! I haven't visited the gold coast since 2010, and I'm thinking about returning for a trip later this year in December. Could somebody please offer a quick summary of the current state of the parks there? I'm specifically interested in Dreamworld/White Water World, Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World and Wet n Wild. Those are the parks I'm most familiar with, but I'm sure there's way more worth visiting on/around the coast. So if you could offer what your experiences have been like recently, it would be very much appreciated. What's the best? What's the worst? Looking into other forum posts, and the recent news articles - I've got the feeling Village Roadshow Parks isn't doing so hot lately. But maybe I'm mistaken on that, what do you think? Thank you for your time.
  18. How can the theme parks in Australia stop people having no confidence in them? This is what what was said after the GD safety stop. “We spent the day at dream world today and obviously started off with the iconic 'giant drop.' After spending 5-10minutes stuck up the top and my missus getting quiet nervous saying 'this isn't right we shouldn't be up here for this long,' we finally came down. We were offered no explanation at the bottom, even though we were greeted servicemen/engineers and security, and were ushered along and out the gate quickly. Throughout the day we also noticed that no other visitors were riding the giant drop and it remained empty. I am disappointed in the lack of communication from the staff in this anxious time and suggest that visitors are better informed and looked after in the event of another ride failure, especially the giant drop! “ Other people’s replies “I'm glad you are both okay. “ “I didn’t see anything on the news glad your ok “ “OMG, I hope you guys are okay! I heard about this and saw you were at Dreamworld, luckily no one got injured this time! “ “Absolutely disgusting it's not good enough, this time all were ok thankfully?Same as SeaWorld some of their rides weren't operating but still full price “ “There seems to be a spate of equipment hiccups, and failures, with some of these rides, lately. Glad you guys came out on the good side of the ledger. “ “Going to buy a lotto ticket I think! “ “Its disgusting after everything thats happened there you would have tjought they would have spoke etc to you “ “Not good think things are getting to old need replacing “ “Katie Stevens this man is not concerned the sensors worked- good thing they did or who knows what could of happened. What he is saying is that there was a severe lack of communication from Dreamworld around the incident. This was a big enough incident to alert engineers and security and it even made the news. There should have been communication for all patrons who were on the ride at the time “ “now I'm freakish out about our visit “ “They haven't learned “ “OMG!!! Not good. Are you guys ok? Huge spit needs to happen- not good enough!!! So long as you 2 are ok that's the main thing it Dreamworld Gold Coast need to get their act together!!!! “ “The fact we were able to ride the attraction while it obviously wasn't in 100% working condition is in itself concerning, just expected better from dreamworld “ I totally understand people feeling like this. The media have beaten DW up and now are beating every other park up. What I would like to know from the parks is why does it come across they are not fighting back. All the parks know that every stoppage is going to be pasted everywhere. I think all the parks need to come together on this and create some type of positive campaign about why rides stop. At the very least when something does happen they need to talk to the customers. Customers are anxious and it’s up to the parks to solve this.
  19. I just found a website where you can view high-quality historical satellite imagery of the Gold Coast. It is amazing seeing the theme parks in such detail in the past. Just an idea to 'past the time' until MW's hypercoaster track/support pieces appear, if anyone wants to see something specific of a Gold Coast theme park, just post below and I'll upload one (or the most popular request) each day until then. I'll provide the link to the full website (and thus, the source of the imagery) when the pieces arrive if there was something you wanted to see that had not yet been posted. To start off, here is Sea World on Tuesday the 10th of July 1973:
  20. Preparations for this years Chinese New Year Celebrations for the year of the rooster have begun. I still think they could take these Celebrations further, and make a new night even from it, especially now if Carnivale stays at SW. They could have fire effects, street entertainment, and a parade, but maybe they don't need to do floats, but could have tonnes of the dragons and all the street performers create this final show. It could run throughout February, and really think it be a great event, especially if they also have Chinese food stalls throughout the park.
  21. Road Runner Rollercoaster was the 2nd ride to make it into Parkz All Stars Aussie Theme Park. Escape from Madagascar is the 2nd ride turned into paperclips. Parkz All Stars Aussie Theme Park line up 1: Jet Rescue 2: Road Runner Rollercoaster. I know everybody has been checking in every 5mins to see who will battle next and the wait is now over thanks to @Santa07. @Santa07 gave us a selection of 3 but I thought I would stuff it up and add one more.. It’s time to battle! which one will be left standing?
  22. Thanks @themagician for the Nearmap pic. Based on my previous guess for the location of Top Golf, and what we have seen as far as the coaster construction goes, we have a decent chunk of land stuck between the two. We've all heard reports of the "Lakeside Precinct" and the hotel development, but what do we think is going in the yellow zone below? One rumour has it $500m is being spent on the park and these new attractions. Red: Coaster Yellow: ?????? Blue: Top Golf
