For me, Fright Nights this year is a big improvement to last year. While the ‘opening’ and ‘closing’ of the night are still the weak points (in my opinion), I’d gladly sacrifice them to have the bigger and better mazes which is what they’ve done. I attended on the very first night (on the platinum ultimate terror tour) and then again last night (standard utt) and was surprised to see the vast improvement - they’ve figured out where to put the utt guests for the opening, they’re sending through smaller groups at a time in the mazes and spacing them out and the scare actors are really getting into their roles - the zombies are creepy af! Not to mention Herman Shuster and his favourite doll. I think Movie World are not only listening to the feedback of their guests but also acting on it. I was very glad to see they brought back the refillable Fright Nights cup this year as well.2 points

Here’s the first construction update since it’s announcement: There was some activity happening on the eastern side of the land, with some large machinery a lot of shipping containers on site All the trees have now been removed from the land where The Vortex will be and the creatures will be removed very soon. Sky Flyer is closed for maintenance, so the entire COTD area is closed off With JR also closed right now for maintenance, access through this area of the park is restricted, but I’m thinking (based off the concept artwork), we will see this bridge finally go and the pathway issues in this area resolved1 point

La Ronde is the main park in Montreal, located on an island in the middle of the river on the Old Expo grounds. https://www.parkz.com.au/parks/CA/Montreal/La_Ronde A full carousel of photos with captions can be viewed if you start here https://www.parkz.com.au/photo/20197-La_Ronde/gallery/sort/newest/location/park-287-La_Ronde/offset/0 A highly accessible location via a bus or metro, but I decided to set off from a metro station on a different line so I could walk across the bridge and look over the park. A bit of a crowd at opening which looked worse than it is, but the park did fill up as the afternoon drew on. Yeah this is Canada now I think the park certainly does deserve its reputation for being run down, it’s worse than Six Flags St Louis. See these pics to get a sense of how the grounds as a whole looked. Many damaged buildings, faded paintjobs, weedy pavements, unkempt gardens, closed rides. A lot of the buildings are carryovers from the Expo days when the park first opened, making parts feel dated. The ride line up isn’t bad at all, with a good selection of flat rides, a couple of good coasters, and a few okay ones. The park seems to have a large number of show venues. Super Manege This ride will be retired at the end of this season. F. It is an off the shelf portable Vekoma corkscrew, like the one at Alton or Playland Vancouver. I was expecting to get belted but it was fine. Goliath This seemed to handle the crowds well, so I got heaps of rides. It’s the purest B&M “Hyper”, a bunch of airtime hills, turnaround, then some more airtime hills. The turnaround was a bit lame, it’s like they were trying to include something resembling a helix, but instead its just like a slow elevated turn like you get on a wooden coaster. Would have been better as a hammerhead turn or a treble clef. The hills deliver good floater, and I really enjoyed this one. Ednor, L’Attaque Ednor is Ronde spelled backwards. It's an SLC, not great, not terrible against the others. They had a bit of a themed queue themed around a sea monster seeminly surfacing at La ronde. It's an odd choice for the park. They had a pre-exsiting B&M invert, and then got this 2nd hand despite being a worse ride. Toboggan Nordique Single Rider queue, score! Was ok, a Zamperla mouse rather than a Mack one. The drops at the end are much smaller than what you get on the Mack ones. Monstre A dumpster fire, a rough ride and a very shaky structure, very slow operations and no racing. It opened late and was the last thing I did so it turned out to be a wait of over an hour. Basically it does a halfsized first drop, turnaround, some big drop, a helix, some more big drops, then the ride is over. I ended up popping into the park for an hour before closing on another day to ride the 2nd track. Phoenix Ended up on this one without really planning it because it had no queue and I like flying scooters. Dragon An indoor family coaster with a surprisingly lengthy layout. Normally these indoor coasters can have crappy papier mache looking theming, but this one felt somewhat arty, with these metal scupture dragons with lights all over them that would progressively illuminate (Imagine a coaster weaving around the sorts of things you see in parade floats) ...It was fine, but it wouldnt take much to jazz it up with a bit more colour and music, because it felt a bit muted. Le Boomerang A regular boomerang, and bearable. The queue had all the charm of a vandalised public park. Grande Roue The observation tower was closed, so this was a good spot for getting unobstructed photos of the park. Vampire A batman B&M coaster that is totally not based on the batman theming at all The ride was good, but again the area around the ride looked shocking and I don't know how management could walk past. Easily the most intense coaster at la ronde, and a walk on to boot! Minirail A small monorail that does a lap of the park. Half the track was closed due to set up of the fireworks, so you'd get on at the front station and get kicked off at the back one. Overall, i think the park is worth a look if you are in Montreal already (The city itself is much more engaging). I've heard the place can have huge waits, but I managed to avoid that, but can def see how it could get bad if you went in the afternoon or evening. Canadas Wonderland is lightyears ahead of this place though.1 point

@Whombex here you go “Lets hope this doesn’t effect the wooden coaster, Leviathan from opening in December 2020. I would expect construction to start in January at the latest, with it being such a complex build. It’s probably going to take 6-9 months for the build to be completed, depending on everything lining up correctly and it goes all to plan”1 point

The Video ran for barely a couple of minutes and was hosted by an Actor that I believe is the same Actor as the Miner you see in Lift 2 ("What y'all doin in here! (fires rifle), Damn it look what you made me do " etc..). It's also the same voice "y'all take care out there on the River" before you board.. He is standing in a street of a Ghost Town set (probably from WB's in Burbank). He tells you that you're about to enter a real Ghost town film set used in famous Western films - like the one he is standing in - and to take care because it's Haunted. He then turns and begins walking down the street and vanishes, suggesting he is a Ghost.. The Preshow video was not as bad as Lethal Weapon but still was pretty bad. It also didn't make sense with Crowd flow as People would always just line up at the doors either side and it was hard to corralle them in and shut the door behind them. Also People would often force the Automatic doors open and continually break them. The pre Video and entire ride never had anything to do with the Wild Wild West Will Smith film, thankfully so too because that flick was a stinker!1 point

Very true. In the long term, out of The Perfect Storm & Funnel Web, The Perfect Storm is likely to be more popular. Jamberoo's original Kangaroo Island masterplan was diverse apart from Koala Creek & Platypus River (but at least we knew these were planned). The Perfect Storm would have been a fine addition (after all, apparently it's a world 1st!) - it's just the timing is not the best. If they built a Behemoth Bowl, Thunder Downunder, Emu Mountain Rapids and then The Perfect Storm, it would have been fine as visitors would have had diversity first and hence, a Tantrum Alley/Tornado hybrid would then 'look different'. I think Platypus River is meant to be more of a 'transportation' means around Kangaroo Island than a whole new ride (even though it looks to be planned to be more thrilling than Rapid River). The Taipan is a different situation too - yes, it is 2 Dark Mammoth slides but they both opened at the same time. I researched Rapids Water Park just then. They opened their 2 Tornadoes 3 years apart as well but I noticed that when they opened Black Thunder, they also opened 4 other new rides/attractions at the same time mainly a combined open/dark Mammoth as well as some kids' water slides/attractions. So different situation again but still, that is a nice fun fact: Jamberoo would then possibly be only 1 of 2 theme parks in the world to have 2 Tornadoes!1 point
