I went on Scooby this morning to check out these new lighting effects. Wow. They are very good. Best I’ve seen them in years. No smoke, but the lighting makes up for it. And the box at the turntable has been adjusted so it is only on while a car is turning, so that you don’t see this bright box the entire ride. I also did notice some new theming elements, particularly around the swinging axes and at the evil laugh guy. The still very poor screens were timed right, but the graphics still really really let it down. The screen before the lift should just not be there. And the screens in the lift I found myself not being able to look at them because they really threw my balance off as the timing was all out. Awesome work MW with the disco room, but the ghost train part still needs some work. On another note, the whole mystery inc gang is back in the park. For a couple years now it’s just been Scooby and Shaggy, but today I saw them all3 points

If you thought Monday would be the best day to go, you have the same opinion as everyone else. Welcome to busy park! In summer holidays, late in the week and weekends are the quietest time to go.3 points

So it’s been a massive decade for Australian theme parks, with some of the smaller parks around the country really showing that it isn’t just the Gold Coast parks that can have some awesome rides. Focusing on the Gold Coast though, there have definitely been some major highs and all time lows. The industry was beaten down a few times and there were some incidents that were major wake ups. Just want to get peoples thoughts on what they think our parks have done right and where they are still missing the park? What have been some good turn around points? What decisions did managements make that make you think, why? But also you wish to congratulate them on. Here’s a quick list of what new attractions have opened this decade: 2010 - Wet ’n’ Wild: Aqualoop and Flowrider - Sea World: Castaway Bay - WWW: Wedgie 2011 - Dreamworld: Shockwave and BuzzSaw, - Movie World: Green Lantern Coaster. 2012 - Movie World: Justice League - Wet ’n’ Wild: Constrictor - Dreamworld: DreamWorks Experience 2013 - Sea World: Storm Coaster 2014 - Dreamworld: Tailspin - WWW: Triple Vortex 2015 - Dreamworld: ABC Kids World - Sea World: Nickelodeon Land 2016 - Movie World: Super-Villains Unleashed - Dreamworld: Tiger Island 2017 - Movie World: DC Rivals Hypercoaster 2018 - Movie World: WB Studio Showcase 2019 - Dreamworld: SkyVoyager - WWW: Fully 62 points

Hi all, We are heading up to the Sunsine Coast from the 12th January and will be visiting Aussie World , Movie World and Dreamworld. My Family and I have not been to the Gold Coast parks for well on 8 years and thought its time to revisit ( especially to ride DC Rivals and Sky Voyager). In keeping with that , here are some quick questions that more seasoned GC park goers may be able to answer: What do you guys suggest would be the best day of the week to visit MovieWorld in terms of keeping the crowds down? I get that its peak time and not ideal but I have seen some horrendous wait times online and some terrible horror stories of where famlies had 2+ hour waits for most rides!! Was thinking either a Sunday or a Monday?? Happy to recieve any advice on this... Havent investigated ticket pricing or options yet but for single day entry , what would be the best option for Dreamwoeld and Movieworld? Would it be easier to get an online pass? For Movieworld are there Fast pass options that may be worth it? Obviously keeping a close watch on the opening and closing times to maximise time spent in parks, what are tips and tricks anyone would recommend to maximise ride times? What to head to first etc? Any other tips that you guys find useful- ie best food options in the parks , any other little hacks or tidbits of info that would be worth employing. Thanks in advance guys - your insights into these are most appreciated!! Cheers1 point

It was announced in a parks post in February that dreamworld was not building any new major attractions as they changed there plans and that was before Greg took over. So Greg restarted those plans for new rides and attractions when he took over https://www.parkz.com.au/article/2019/02/22/643-Theres_no_new_major_rides_or_attractions_coming_to_Dreamworld_after_Sky_Voyager.html1 point

Movieworld definitely on the Monday. Most people will be back to work by then so crowds will begin to drop, but if you go sunday you get all the locals as well. none of the park discount via third party resellers Anymore so cheapest pricing you’ll get in directly from their websites (gate pricing is higher). I believe both offer Afterpay now so you can pay for your entry in instalments if that makes it easier. NRMA and motoring bodies offer a small discount on 3 park 3 day passes but given You only want MW from the VTP group it’s pretty useless. MW does have fast pass, available for purchase online or at the photo centre when you enter the park, if you do online, again you can afterpay these in terms of times, be there at rope drop and head to whatever your most favoured or anticipated ride is (i would suggest DCR as with only 1 Train operating it blows out fast). Then head to back of the park for WWF as Generally this isn’t busy first thing as everyone gravitates to the closer proximity to entry rides first. Have an early lunch Or snack on the go so you can take advantage of shorter lines while everyone else stops to eat. Skip Stunt Driver and again enjoy a small drop off in queues during the show (same applies to the parade time if you are happy to miss this). Ricks is the best value and quality in the park imo... but that requires a solid 30-40mins of time to make the most of, so it would depend on how your day is going for timing1 point

Movie World only closes queues before closing time if there's a need to, such as a night time event. At other times, the queues remain open until the parks advertised closing time (5:30pm for the next few days).1 point

Yes, they did. But then a few weeks later also indicated that it wouldn't be going ahead and the ride was closing. Which, correct me if I'm wrong, happened. In the context of how it was being thrown around in this thread, I fully support this new movement.1 point

WWF has had an unexpected stoppage this afternoon. Entered the queue at about 3:45pm and the line was through the outdoor switchbacks, within 10mins an announcement went over the ride that it would be stopping temporarily and to stay seated. Stoppage lasted about 40mins whilst people were taken off and then for testing. Has just reopened. in other news, people are f**king pigs...1 point

Probably most significant is when the steam effects were decommissioned but other than that the park has done a pretty good job of up-keeping this attraction which is unique and actually does fit the classification of being world class.1 point

Not sure how many have ventured out this year. I’ll admit I haven’t visited the event for a few years as it was kinda repetitive and just fairly unpleasant to be at/navigate. As luck would have it I was at the park for a few White Christmas nights this year and WOW what a difference. Firstly on a fundamental level crowd control has been radically altered and improved. All the sidewalks are now clear of bins, benches, silly theming, etc and provide easy clear passage behind the crowd that assemble. But even the crowds are now less because at long last the parade ‘route’ has been extended down into western town and actually starts proper at Dodgems. You get a full show and this has been advertised so crowds are spread much better rather than being forced to jam in to see a plaza centric show. As for the parade itself HORAY AT LAST ITS A PARADE. It’s not an awkwardly paced collection of mini shows that about 5% get to see. From start to finish the parade is an evenly paced constant stream of kinetic energy. Not once did I find myself with a blank street in front of me to look at. Even the sound track reflects this and whilst it has different moods throughout it comes across as one cohesive track that suits all floats and is extremely Disney like. The whole thing was just such a joy to watch. Little touches like improved exit routes post parade and an absence of that god ugly flying fairy rig just add to the experience. A job very well done by the park. I was both well surprised and impressed.1 point

I love that they also painted the ground and painted the darker blue splash to match the rides logo1 point

Just wanted to add that it’s important to share these sorts of positive experiences from the parks as well as the bad. Very often us enthusiasts are quick to get on here and complain about every sore point, but less so on the good things. Giving positive feedback only serves to encourage the parks to do more good things1 point

Sorry T-Bone I am going to have to disagree with you here.I have been on these boards since nearly inception and most know that my main points of interest are the Luna Park's of Australia and the smaller Australian theme parks such as Jamberoo, Aussie World , Adventure World and the Victorian parks such as Fun Fields and Adventure Park. Sure I have a huge interest in the GC parks as well and recognise rightly that they are are the pinnacle of the amusement park industry in Australia, but I always gravitate to any threads regarding our smaller burgeoning parks in the other states. My point is that I have shared my opinions and views on these parks over these many years and I have had (mostly) well rounded, intelligent discussions from members and posters that have certainly taken a fervent interest in these parks. This site is CALLED Parkz and as such encompasses ALL Australian amusement parks in the country as a whole. Its not called Gold Coast Parkz for a reason. Yeah sure the main thrust of the industry and the sheer scale of the parks on the GC mean that they attract the lion share of the focus on these boards but that is not meant to detract at all from the smaller parks within the Australian amusement park landscape. To say that no one seems to really care about the other parks is just a massive incorrect statement , IMHO. @iwerks, @Tim Dasco , @19Michael96 and myself are certainly examples of regular and respected posters who's main point of focus are not solely aligned with the GC parks.1 point
