  1. Mad Max themed land. Vekoma Mad-house where the WB Exhibit is now. Entrance to the east facing current Arkham station Vekoma flyer that makes use of the space from Superman Escape's helixes right up to the current maze buildings. Mad Max themed bar and events space that doubles as an exit pathway, observation platform (think light-house type outpost themed to Mad Max) and merch space for the ride itself. Mack Twist 'n' Splash or Drunken Barrels (or hell, any half decent flat ride that would do well on a hot summer day) to tie the space in between current Arkham courtyard and the interconnect from the Mad Max area to WWF. This combo of attractions would make great use of the land, avoids overlap with existing attractions in Australia and has clearly defined marketable advantages (country's first flying coaster, total novelty factor etc.) Advantages of a Mad Max themed land: There's a new Mad Max movie. The theme is pretty iconic and timeless at this point. It's basically an abandoned, rustic theme, so it's not crazy expensive to do well It's Aussie AF and appeals to the same demo that Hollywood Stunt Driver does The transitions between other precincts themed lands is a piece of cake - it's an easy transition to WWF, and the transitions between Superman and Main Street are basically more of what used to be there with the China Town Alley-way. You're welcome Village. 🍻

  2. Seriously? Look lets get this idea out of yours and everyone else who thinks it would be a good idea heads. Coney Island is one of the last remaining 1930's Funhouses left intact in the WORLD. That alone should give you pause. It is the only remaining attraction from the opening in 1935. It is largely unchanged inside ( except for some minor cosmetic changes) with the exception of moving the Mirror Maze under the slides. Even then this had to be accomplished by appealing to the Heritage council for approval. Its protected by state government legislation and is placed on the State Heritage listing along with the Towers, Face and Crystal Palace as structures of immense historical value. It does not need extending. Any operator who runs the park is bound by legislation to ensure that the upkeep of Coney Island is kept in strict working order and condition pursuant to the legislative requirements. ( As is Wild Mouse). It does not need extending. It needs maintaining and protecting. Its a miracle that it is in the excellent condition it is in. It is a living museum and a testatment to those times past and quite frankly is the soul of the park and a good reason that the park has the unique charm it has. It is internationally known and recognised as being an item of significant amusement park history. It just needs to be maintained exactly as it is with the sole goal of preserving it in its current, historical state. You just do not tinker with that.

  3. I can now confirm that Spider's last day of operation was on Sunday the 22nd of November. Dismantling started this morning, and the ride will be gone by tomorrow. The exciting news is that the truck that's being moved has the Joylands logo on there! It's going to now operate as a carnival ride by Joylands! Here are some photo's from this evening at Luna Park showing Maloney's Corner. Watch this space as it's already changed. And will continue to change throughout next year.

  5. They took out the shitty, broken, not run properly HUSS rides and decided to replace them with newer better rides and some kickass coasters. HOW DARE THEY!!?!1

  6. I'm actually going to make a trip for this coaster, which will mark the first time I've been ever been compelled to travel anywhere in Australia for a ride since Wonderland closed. I've been to Luna Park once before when I was in Sydney for other stuff, but haven't really felt a desire to go back even on subsequent trips to Sydney when I've been bored and looking for stuff to do. Huss may well make the best fairground rides, but fairground rides don't get me to go to places, so yeah good move IMHO.

  8. They've ruined the character of the place by adding non ghetto, quality, permanent install rides.

  9. Most of Joyland's rides will be heading to their annual Christmas carnival at Jervis Bay, so doubt anything of value will be added (unless Pirates Revenge makes a surprise return for the summer). Spider will be returning (hopefully) at a later date, definitely not to the park and not for a few years at least, but there's the chance you could see it around at one point or another.

  10. Oh my 🤯. Remodel the interior of the last remaining 1930's heritage-listed funhouse to maximise space. Takes a deep breath. Its a 1930's funhouse. Coney island is a fun park within an amusement park. To make any changes would also ruin its patina. This funhouse has survived so many things its not funny. It has been flooded, bad birds living in it for years. The roof caved in during the late 80's I think also even the floor rotted away. Resident artists Ashely has updated new murals to tie in nicely but refuses to touch the old ones. Yes its got some dust and yeah some of the original artworks are faded but seriously that's the charm of the place. To even do dusting on something like the clown head above the ropes maze usually involves a lot of paperwork and someone from the national heritage trust I'm sure. When they have to conduct a repair on a body slide or even the joy wheel it needs to be done in such a way because the building and original items inside are heritage listed. This is why the joy wheel has had an unvarnished piece of plywood on It for a while. Building codes have changed also throughout the years. If you have ever been to Coney Island you will notice "drains" on the floor throughout it. They are true drains (kind of) but also act as part of the fire suppression system. As for the "steel" look yeah I can't lie. It looks annoying but services its fire purpose. We might see a giant vinyl tarp go over this area much as they did with the backside of Coney Island. At the end of the day, it is a heritage-listed building with heritage-listed items inside.

  11. The game has you covered for that. Hell, the game has you covered for ALOT of theming ideas. One of few games where the environment is better than the story, and remains the only reason i went for 100% on the outposts.

  12. Anyone else reckon it was a nod to prior big dipper to have a loop and sidewinder in the same spot? Re future expansion, i wonder what the chances are of expanding onto a deck over the water adjacent to the family shuttle coaster? They could also eventually turn the Big Top into a new all weather ride hall....

  13. This and/or a proper dark ride of sorts. Although in saying that, I'm not sure it'd suit. LP to me is more of a boardwalk-esque park, rather than a fully fledged theme park like something in the Gold Coast or Florida - (Think the Santa Monica Pier in LA). They're pretty limited for room too, so unless they expand beyond Maloney's Corner (or should I say Luna Land) to where the train yard is, I don't think any other attractions would be feasible.

  14. @HussRainbow87 Actually I did notice that yesterday. I get you're a Huss fan, but to be honest its coming across like Pushbutton when he was "It's not a monorail or a dark ride therefore ill turn my nose up" As @joz said, the Intamin launch coaster would be worth a trip alone, I don't think the capacity will be a problem. GL and Abyss run with 8 person trains at short intervals so therefore a 7 seater at a park that is less peaky like LPS should be fine. Objectivley, for a constrained park they've picked a good balanced selection of rides that will be popular with the public. Signature big impressive flat ride, good launch coaster, good family shuttle and a decent kiddyland. The park has had an over reliance on spin and spew rides until now. I think the only thing missing is some sort of water ride, but that could come in the future.

  15. And look, you're entitled to your opinion on it. We know the fondness you have for Huss and travellers in general, but if you can't see how amazing this is, what is really the biggest single expansion outside of a second gate \ greenfields park in Australia, then I don't really know what else to say to you. Like others have said, while i've been, there's nothing there at present that would make me keen to revisit on subsequent visits. This new expansion certainly will do that for me too.

  16. They removed the HUSS rides I never went on? That's it! Put the whole place in the bin!

  17. I definitely stand by the mine train coaster - I can see it complimenting WWF well, plus anything that’s NOT DC is good in my books haha

  18. I knew of all us mate you would be the one that would not be overly happy.😎 But come on- you have to admit this is exciting times for LPS!! This announcement is great for the park and the industry as a whole and more importantly, its great for the tourism potential for NSW. I know we are all going to miss the Huss rides- very true they were exciting and well engineered rides that have now been added to the fabric and history that is Luna Park Sydney.

  19. They can think whatever they want. This project has the full support of the government. No amount of pissed off locals is going to change it at this point.

  20. Hi Ranger. Water parks are going to, unfortunately, have this issue 99% of the time. As nice as it would be to have lifts etc it's not viable. I know this is not your concern but I thought id mention it anyway. As mentioned by Gazza some slides to have rolling platforms. Here in Australia we only have two slides with such a feature. I know slide manufacturers do indeed think about what is possible. It is indeed a part of the design process. Part of the issue (ill try to explain this in a basic way) is the slide run-outs. Some Body slides don't require a big body of water with a large depth. Most tube slides have a slight depth. This is the issue that manufacturers look at. The simple fix would be to make all run-outs shallow but unfortunately its not that easy and wouldn't work for over 50% raft slides. Staff in water parks are trained slightly different from those in dry parks. Youll always find they are not as hands-on due to a "slip" factor. They don't want to drop a guest etc. Wider queues and extra handrails tho could be possible. It comes down to the standard risk assessments being conducted also. I know some (apologies if I am using the wrong terminology) disability groups are brought in to look at requirements needed for people who need extra assistance and that. Your ideas are very valid and definitely warranted.

  21. Okay. So I've had some time to take in all this news, and I think I'm ready to give my thoughts in a calm and civilised manner. Ahem..... OHMYGODTHISISTHEBESTTHINGEVERTHATSEVERHAPPENEDTOTHEPARKINWAYOVERADECADEANDALLMYDREAMSANDFANTASISESANDVISIONSABOUTTHEFUTUREOFTHEPARKARECOMINGTRUEITSTOOEXCITINGICANTSTANDITAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So naturally I'm very pleased with today's news. I was already very happy after the 2020 Transport Heritage Grants had been announced (the Sydney Tramway Museum, which I volunteer at, got two grants; one to finish off restoration on our 1898 D class tram, the other to digitise our archives), but this is just the icing on top! And just a side note that no one's mentioned yet, the concept art has the facade for the dodgems redone so that it fits the Arabian look of Big Dipper building. This just makes me even more thrilled as this is exactly what I wanted to see happen to the dodgems entrance for the last 3 years. Next year's gonna be great!

  22. I'm excited, but I don't like the sound of "Luna Land". I'd rather they just keep it as Maloney's Corner.

  23. Hi @Ranger. I've been fairly lucky to have worked in a few theme parks. I understand how annoying it is for you and also embarrassing that you'd want to do what everyone else does without the fuss. Parks do not actually set out the rider guidelines. It is done by the manufacture. Having said that tho some operators (dry or water parks) may have had scenarios occur before that they either want to avoid or have had issue with before. As in your example about the tube floating and making it slightly difficult for you to enter. I understand you would know your ability a there knows exactly what is best for you. Operators are just concerned about slips and trips normally. It is not personal. The big companies that operate here in AUS all do sensitivity training for such instances. I can recommend you should always attend guest services at any park you attend. Double-check with them what you can and can't do. I know you might be worried about doing this but I am about to give you some inside advice. The second you do this the ride supervisor is informed of the guest. Normally once you leave guest services, They usually make an announcement via phone or Two-way informing all staff that the possibility of a guest with special needs is in the park. Its a heads up and ensures the workers are prepared and reminds them about the sensitivity training they would have undertaken. I hope this helps a little. We all want to enjoy the same recreational activities. Happy riding.

  27. On balance, yes - all of your examples are correct assessments. I'm not disagreeing with you. I even said I think our parks will take the DCR route, and so they should. What I meant was, it's sad we won't see our parks take that big leap again. Sure, DCR is an incredible coaster, but what i'm trying to say though is that TOT, despite its many flaws and limitations, is what really put Dreamworld on the map. Despite the carnage it wreaked on the park landscape, it was the dawn of a new era for Dreamworld, and something that symbolised the park for over a decade. Granted, they lacked anything else really to take over the title - Cyclone was a worthy addition to the park lineup but not anything special, and the blue fire clone will be a worthy successor to the flagship title at the park. My sadness comes from the knowledge that anything our parks get will, pound for pound, be a copy of something else already rideable overseas. that's all.
