I noticed today that part of the reason why the ice cream parlour roof was removed was so they can fix the mess in the photo above. Good job DW Here’s a look at progress I noticed a lot of footer markings along the path to the DW, so I’m thinking this path will be widened or moved into the fenced off area

And just like that....the last of LPS's Huss rides have been dismantled and now completely gone. RIP Spider!! These rides have now entered into Luna Park history and whilst we lament their loss, we know that over the next 12 months, there is so much to look forward to for the park. Hopefully over the next 12 months, we see the return , in conjunction with the Big Dipper name, other names from Luna Parks historical past! Ride names such as The Wild Cat, The Whirler, The Whip, The Hey Dey as well as the retainment of the Tumblebug , The Spider and the Flying Saucer should all be considered if they are ride appropriate. This would be another great nod to Luna Park's history and would also give some continuity whilst ushering in the new age. Bring on 2021!! To be honest, I dont think Big Dipper is meant to be pitched as a "RMC killer" I think its just being seen as simply an alternative. To be really fair, I think it is actually the perfect coaster for the park. They do not need a high intensity , over the top thrill machine. Big Dipper will still deliver on thrills for sure, but without having the shadow of being a hugely intensive ride hanging over it. The fact that it is Australia's FIRST rail coaster will sit it in good stead for a good amount of time- and unless MW adds in a RMC Raptor as their Arkham replacement, I cannot see any other park in Australia emulating them in the short to medium term. The POV and the simulation I think do not properly convey the sense of speed within each element and I surmise that this coaster, whilst short on ride duration and height, will still pack a sizeable punch. Definitely looking forward to riding it, and judging by the international attention that the announcement has garnered, it appears so are many other people, in and outside of Australia!

Always love a Parkz Update

Before @AlexB gets wind of a debate about daylight savings, I'll just say that I hate it too, only because it's not implemented east coast wide. Pick one and stick with it. I guess this means @Tim Dasco gets to stay as part of the mainland then.

So you agree we should vote WA off the mainland and force NT and SA into the east coast timezone?

I think that was already done in Halloscream 2019. I didn't actually attend the event but I have the park map.

Long time, no post! I like so many of you am thrilled to see our theme park industry burgeoning into a world-class offering by next year. A prospective total of up to six (if not five) coasters is a huge win for Aussie's tourism and just the shot the in the arm we'll need after the year we've had (vaccine pun very much intended). Will 2021 be an unprecedented year? Perhaps those older than I could shed some light. I've never heard of such a strong offering across multiple Aussie parks within a single year. The only other thing I'll say about the Big Dipper, that hasn't been mentioned yet, is that it's not going to be an RMC-killer. Sure, it's a fantastic looking coaster and all, but the pitch seems to be that it's a high-thrill machine among family coasters and rides. Ignoring height/length restrictions (that would be an unfair sleight against LPS), it's just not going to have the forces or the speed of Jersey Devil, or even Wonder Woman Golden Lasso/RailBlazer. And there's Intamin's track record on reliability to consider, which I think should speak for itself. Not to piss on anyone's bonfire and I'm still excited to be riding a new Intamin at my home park next year. This is still fantastic news. It's just got me thinking... If DCR wasn't yet the saviour our parks needed, this may not be either...

The residents claim that they built \ bought a property that was constructed when the park was closed, and therefore they could not have foreseen that a decades old park would never reopen. They had several battles that resulted in the restrictions to the dipper, however, since that time, those sorts of decisions have been reversed. The relevant state ministers themselves have come out supporting this proposal, and have stated it is in accord with the relevant legislation that was enacted specifically to protect Luna Park's operations. In a nutshell, the legislation and case law to date basically says the park can do anything within the bounds of certain requirements provided they follow the right processes. The residents don't get to object to each development as it happens, if it fits within the specific criteria. it has been stated, by the relevant minister that everything in this plan fits within that criteria. Therefore, the residents can cry in front of the media all they like - they live above an amusement park and they have to live with that choice, or they can move.
