  1. The track is complete https://www.leadstory.com/v/two-new-roller-coasters-are-being-built-at-gumbuya-world-2022112311?fbclid=IwAR3ZmLcPpAW3dxbeJRC0E66TLACcM7dzSlBUtp49mtlEzig4CcfogjC0MQs

  2. Maybe after Jungle Rush they could round off the area, with another supporting family attraction - a boat ride around the existing river. Not the return of the paddle steamer, but perhaps something along the lines of Snake River Expedition at Cedar Point.

  3. Ahhh media - never change. Yeah as noted, they've got wiggles characters, ABC Kids characters including BiP, they've got Kenny and Belinda, Goldie... there is not going to be a shortage of character opportunities, and not having the stage themed to a single IP means they can use it for special holiday attractions as well as regular shows and appearances - if anything the loss of the dreamworks characters gives them MORE opportunity, not less. How so? The theme and layouts as I understand them sound quite well planned and thought out? They're: Merging the two kids areas (that are quite a distance apart) into a single unified zone, using both ABC, Wiggles and non-IP themes. Installing a splash pad adjacent to ocean parade, and extending the 'parade' beyond it to encompass the orphaned KFP Land attractions (themes to be revealed, but "ocean") Returning RiverTown to the River, potentially restoring the old "gold rush town" style feel by the murrisippi, returning the cars to where they should be, and bringing in a new coaster also themed to the same Putting a 'fairground' weenie front and centre inside the park to give the entrance some kinetic energy without an elaborately distracting theme - its a main street attraction pure and simple and doesn't need any strong themes to work well. The only thing in the above that I have even the remotest reservation about is the further bloating of the already enormous Ocean Parade. Since they no longer have wipeout, stingray, reef diver or flowrider, the things that made it "ocean" aren't really there anymore, and they could have taken the opportunity to make that area more cohesive, rather than bloat it further. But given the $50M+ they're already spending across a high majority of the parks footprint... i'm prepared to wait and see a complete job.

  4. I think the problem is what do you do when you get off ST. A poor man's coaster? Spin a spew? What's stopping you from leaving the park besides ST. The most time I spend in DW is a couple of hours and that wasn't the case in the past.

  5. Greg's reply in his news-pieces was about how difficult labour was to source and the risk factor. 1) The talent is readily available, Ardent just made the talent redundant. It's literally Ardent's strategic misdirection that has caused this. The rationale is literally a meme. 2) Handler/Wildlife interaction is one of the most single important keys to reducing risk. It's just plain facts. You can't exercise or enrich the animals to anywhere near the level you can when handlers have a relationship with the animal.

  7. Sometimes DW make announcements just to make an announcement because Village made one. Village: “We are building a hotel” DW: “We want to build a hotel too” Is there a reason for DW to tell us they are taking away what people love about tiger island? Because the negative reaction I have seen online is not what you want when you are promoting your future. This tiger announcement feels like Wipeout shade sails all over again.

  8. media has been stating about indiana jones, not dreamworld themselves. two completely different situations.

  11. I will say only criticism with the announcement is that i wish there was a new ride being added where the Trolls Village / Kevil Hill building are. That area feels so empty and incomplete, adding a ride there (even something like a Splash-battle if you want to keep the family rides vibe) would’ve worked so well, while also giving the park a safe option for a water ride. However, they have a plan for around the next 5 years so who knows, maybe something bigger that we aren’t expecting will be going in that area.

  12. I think the area they are focusing on is great and has been really badly needed for a long time. ABC kids world is without doubt the area that’s looked the worse for a long time. And there’s the old TOT building which could just be sitting there for many years without reworking this entire corner. Dreamworks has started to look a little sad too so it’s needed some love. And theirs the weird corner between tailspin and Gold Coaster that’s needed some attention for a long time too. The old log ride site definitely needs something, but I’d imagine that’ll be the next location of focus a couple years after this massive investment. The Reno of Giant Drop will hopefully help that corner for now.

  13. There are approximately 1000 solar panels on the roof of the Coomera sports centre next door. Which takes up 3500sqm. I assume that number doesn’t allow for the spacing in between rows for maintenance access. But looking into further, there is actually quite a lot of roof realestate with the maintenance buildings as well These four roofs alone backup 5000sqm, so there probably is more than enough roof realestate for 2000 panels. That amount of panels will cover about 30% of the parks annual usage.

  14. Surley you'd put them on the main street and event centre roof, and then after that maybe over the car park?

  16. This quote, but keep in mind they're still doing to presentations. There is nothing wrong with presentations, but that double speak is really not cool.

  18. To be clear, the ride vehicles moved to Corroboree, so pretty easy to say the ride moved. The only thing that’s moving is the spirit of the ride. By that logic, if I buy a new road car somehow it’s the same car as the one I had before because they have the same spirit.

  20. I dunno, I will go visit the park to check this ride out. Still haven’t even bothered for ST. If they get this right could be a real winner of a coaster/attraction I recon.

  21. No need to close it down and the hassle of relocating the animals. With DW's newfound attitude towards tigers, DW will be allowing tigers to roam the park for nature to take its course.

  22. Nah they got a good deal on Jinko panels and the government rebate means its no money down.

  23. Great to see the investment...but DW as clueless as ever, about theming and layout!

  24. DW is in a no-win situation here. DW could have said we are closing the Vintage cars and opening a new car ride, but all the golden year people would be crying. Side note: I'm sick of hearing about the golden years. It's like seeing your grandad and him telling you about the past. I went DW in the 80’s and the Thunderbolt sucked, but I didn’t know that because we had nothing to compare it too. In fact, a good 50% of the rides sucked.

  25. Would you start playing around with this stuff when your last set up killed 4 people?

  26. Oh yeah for sure. The one at USS is kind of lame because you don't even control the acceleration. Needs to be "push a pedal and it goes" type deal. Side point, does anyone even make petrol vintage cars anymoree?

  27. I took it to mean that as above. I also took what rappa was saying was to not get too hung up on the rest of the wording which people seem to be tying themselves up in knots over.

  28. My sketch is very crude, but essentially the train enters onto the yellow track, brakes hold it in place (when the train is on this track it’s either facing forwards or backwards depending on how the ride left the station), then the rotates on the top point axis and ends in the blue position. And this happens on an incline. The brakes then release and the train continues on its journey. So it isn’t a flip track and the track isn’t changing.

  29. Part of the reason for new vehicles being purchased for the attraction is because they will be introducing wheelchair accessible cars. And my understanding is the new cars will be more secure so guests can’t just get out of them if they wanted too.

  30. I've already put in the database as a new attraction. New ride hardware, new course. I'm guessing it would have to be electric with fake engine sounds, just about every new car ride has this.

  31. As a purist, I do not disagree with you. The reality is this is the same situation as the replacement of the steam train with the current iteration of the 'Dreamworld Express'. I didn't like it, but I understand why they did it. New ride vehicles are more modern improvements on out of date technology, which will no doubt also reduce the maintenance and operating expenses, something the park really needs to do. I think you're getting carried away here. (And again, as a reminder, that I agree with the sentiments you said above, that the loss of the genuine attraction vehicles is a sad day). The first version of Autopia vehicles were awful. The latest versions are cleaner, safer, and resolve many of the issues of days gone by. Monorails got upgraded. Matterhorn sleds changed. And Disney didn't build everything out of genuine parts either. they faked things where necessary. (Spoiler alert - Big Thunder Mountain Trains aren't steam engines, even though they blow "smoke" out of their exhaust stacks!). Just as LPS replaced tango train, Dreamworld replaced the Steam Train... just view the new version as a tribute to what once was, (RIP Little Puff) and be happy that at least some version of the experience remains. (It looks like the iconic barn bridge photo op will return in some capacity too).

  32. Why do tigers need a performance though, as opposed to other animals? Eg if it was Lion Island or Rhino Island, you wouldn't expect that right?

  33. I seriously hope they consider adding water elements to the Wave Swinger! Just like the unit at Phantasialand in Germany. This would be absolutely brilliant and would also help smooth out somewhat the loss of any water attraction at Dreamworld in those hot summer Gold Coast days. This would be a great interim measure before they add a new water ride- which is sorely needed! Having this at the entrance to the park is a winner as it provides instant kinetic energy. If the theming is as per below in any way, this could be a real showstopper and arguably the best opening view of any Aussie theme park.

  34. I never said to my mother. I want to ride the vintage cars because it has genuine Model-T Ford parts.

  35. I’d imagine new gondolas would have formed a key part of their announcements and signage up around the park describing the scope of works if they were in the plans..

  36. Considering they just did a full refurbishment on the Western gondola in the last 2-3 years I seriously doubt that it's happening. Feel free to post your sources or prove me wrong, but all the information that I have heard is that it's just a cosmetic overhaul and some minor work done mechanically to motors etc.

  37. @Gazza's Nearmap updates of Victoria prompted me to check out the GC and there have been a few updates - so here's a bit of an image dump: Marvin ride construction zone (Oct 26): Fright Nights Maze and queue races (October 26) Not exactly theme park but the below is up behind the studios \ outback on the road to Paradise Country. This paddock was used a few years ago for the Asgard set for one of the Thor movies. The 'parking area' wasn't there a year ago and was a greenfields site, but the several rows of items around the edge of the boundary fence are new since august. I've no idea what they are (I assume they're production set pieces for filming), they aren't all the same shape or size, but I can't get any better read on what it is without visiting on site... anyone have any ideas? Leviathan and Trident sites - this image is directly overhead and shows some of the pathways \ thoroughfares in and around Atlantis. Former Arkham \ Future Wizard of Oz land Didn't have a lot of time to explore so that's it for this update, but if I find anymore major changes i'll be sure to update...
