  1. My daughter, best friend and I made the decision to stop by Dreamworld late yesterday afternoon to pay our respects before heading to MW. This was the second visit for me, and I was absolutely overwhelmed with how many more floral and candle tributes have been added by the community in the last couple of days, along with stuffed toys, cards and letters. It made for a beautiful but heartbreaking sunset. The lingering storm in the distance definitely set the bitter-sweet tone of the moment. Will be stopping by again tomorrow, on the request of both my kids whom have expressed an interest in wanting to add tributes of their own there for both families. Such a tragic situation overall. Still can't believe this has actually happened ???

  2. Given the situation, I don't think the Dreamworld CEO meant 'looked after' as in just emotional support. He would definitely be referring to financial support otherwise that wouldn't be 'looking after' them in such a difficult time. Anyway, if you read the media statement that @razza1987 recently shared, it does state very clearly that all staff will be paid during the park's closure. Great photo @Theme Park Girl - I haven't seen any other photo that shows this much of the floral tributes etc.

  3. The theme park's CEO, Craig Davidson, said all pre-purchased Dreamworld tickets would be refunded and that no customer would be out of pocket. He said four trees would be planted inside Dreamworld as a memorial to the four people who lost their lives. "We would see the flowers behind us become a part of that memorial," he said.   5. My comment was only insofar as the ridiculous comparison to a road accident. An otherwise normal road is safe to resume operations once the scene of an accident is cleared. It is increasingly apparent from the available evidence and eyewitness accounts that design, equipment, policies or procedures -- or a combination of these four -- caused this accident at Dreamworld. It's hard to imagine any way that the root cause of this incident will be a single catastrophic failure like Big Thunder Mountain, but rather a series of failings that led to this tragic outcome. I dare say Disney's political muscle and their ability to weather that storm is unique to Disney, like so many aspects of the company. Citing that case really just demonstrates just how strong Disney are. The park will resume operations in the near future and I wouldn't suggest otherwise at this point. But the overwhelming mood here seems to be to steadfastly defend the park and insist that every other aspect of Dreamworld is OK to go and just waiting the appropriate grieving period. To me this is an assertion that's just not possible with the information that is known publicly.

  6. In my opinion this is a good thing. The safer the parks are the better. Lessons will be learned from what has happened during the last week. The parks will only become safer after all of this. Sad that it took this to happen though

  7. Can't loose the quote boxes! @Theme Park Girl. I'd call the station handling it or Policelink . @bladex. What that and many other articles fail to mention is that the air compressors where deemed not to need certification by the department upon review.

  8. Well like you said it will be evidence, everyone else has a story but you have photos and would most likely be able to give people an idea on whether or not water level was a little low (I don't know if the water was low would it show up like it would at the station if that makes sense).

  9. I second that. I would absolutely be not going ahead with any park purchases right now. In fact I'm surprised the website is even allowing transactions atm, given everything is all up in the air at this time Not that I don't doubt for a second that the park will pass it's safety audits, but that's one of many things that could change the park's future with reopening. It's a one step at a time process. We all just have to be patient.

  10. Man, I have photographs I took of Eureka maintain about half an hour before the accident happened. They include the TRR reservoir and the river itself whilst in operation. Anyone know if I should be forwarding them onto anyone? I don't know if it they would be classed as a form of evidence or not, given that they were still taken a little while before the incident occurred. ETA: just jotted the QPS a quick email. No harm in offering if they may potentially help in any way.

  11. The park will not be reopening till all for victims are put to rest. I wouldn't be buying anything from the Dreamworld website yet. Wait till the park reopens.

  13. It is interesting (and i really do not mean any disrespect or upset when I say interesting) to read the Aussie media reports and the European reports in to this tragedy. Some on social media are saying that Dreamworld should not re-open, but after the smiler tragedy at Alton Towers (the UK's largest theme park) that was shut for 5 days and the ride for 9 months, on top of that Merlin shut ALL rides from the same manufacturer across all their parks over Europe. What I have read / seen (and again this is only in press via the net) is Ardent leisure have not really handled this at all well. This was clearly shown at the Ardent met a press conference. Merlin Entertainment (who own Alton Towers, Legoland, Sealife Centres etc) controlled the media and kept information flowing and debunked an awful lot of misinformation, on top of that they had senior staff at the hospitals helping the family members of the victims. Some people saw this as risk as normally at corporate level people hide behind laywers. If you google how Merlin handled the crash, you will see a completely different approach to how Ardent have handled this. If you take Merlins approach there was empathy to the family, there was support to families and staff at alton towers. Unfortunately Merlin saw how tour operator Thomas Cook handled a major incident badly and that distress that it caused, so maybe they had that to look at as poor crisis management. Unfortunatly it seems Ardent have / are doing this poorly, what should come first is families of ALL involved. In the case of the smiler crash (and I am sorry to keep using this as an example but it is comparison) a director made the point on focusing on the people involved. The CEO (Nick Varney) came out early on and did press conferences quickly and again focus on the families. At the end of all of this lessons were learned and in the Smilers crash it was human error that caused it. It is still early days on Dreamworld, but from what is being reported / and shown in the media (and I may be wrong being a pom) but it looks like Ardent are not handling this at all well. To have a reporter give you the families telephone number is extremely poor and looks like poor management. Dreamworld is an iconic park one of those parks whose names is famous world wide and I really do hope answers are found. My thoughts are with all affected by this.

  14. Un-believable that's all I can say. I can feel for the families, staff and everyone else involved, the ride attendants running the ride will feel absolutely horrible.

  18. I have tears for all involved. My heart goes out to them. I have vowed to go back to the park after my daughter nearly drowned and staff did nothing even after I was screaming out to them and when I spoke to the park they did not care. I will definitely never go back to the park now.
