  1. I am so pissed off with the over simplification by this protest group. It's just lazy three word slogan protesting and I really hate their smug attitude to everyone and everything that doesn't agree with them 100%. Like the attitude of that lady in the video just after she scared the crap out of some very distressed children and broadcast it live over the internet. They're so subjective and not objective. Their language is so laden with oversimplifications and moral righteousness (not forgetting their personification of the dolphins). I wish they'd just state the facts. First, get the name of the park right. State what you would like to happen, which hopefully doesn't involve releasing captive bred dolphins into the wild. I found this quote in an interesting website: https://dolphinproject.net/about-dolphins/releasing-captive-dolphins/protocol-for-releasing-captive-dolphins/ I just wished they quoted some reliable sources, sometimes. I'm still haunted by the fascinating, but tragic, story behind the release of the Atlantis Dolphins. http://www.aquaticmammalsjournal.org/share/AquaticMammalsIssueArchives/1993/Aquatic_Mammals_19_2/19-02_Gales.pdf There's actually a few things I don't disagree with them about with regards to Sea World. The problem is, the world isn't black or white. The simple fact, that many people don't seem to realise, is that Sea World doesn't own the dolphins. It's part of a much larger program. So, whenever a protestor oversimplify things, overreaches or just outright lies, I'm going to be there to correct them. I'm only going to do it on the Sea World Facebook page, though.
  2. Perth had Cable Water Ski Park back in the day, but a couple of guys got Perth Wake Park going a few years ago and that looks to be doing pretty well now.
  3. I can't believe they're quoting The Cove, like that's relevant to SW. There's no excuse for ignorance or abusing the poor kids in the front row.
  4. In case you weren't aware of the wonderful weather we've had over here in the west, Adventure World was closed for the second day in a row due to the heavy rain. Abyss is also waiting for parts and has been closed for at least a week.
  5. Good point, because it's the only one that seriously failed and the riders were left in an awkward position. Yet the media treated that incident no differently from all of the routine stops.
  6. That is a luge sled on the back of the monorail car. You could ride the monorail up or get in line for the luge in the old waiting area they knocked down in order to make the Kraken. Yeah, I quite liked the original colour scheme of a lot of the buildings and the Bounty.
  7. The beach probably didn't last much longer than that, I think, and was on the Cabana side of the big pool. I'm pretty sure that they still had crew members at the top stopping the people from bunching up on Water Mountain and they did what they did just for the ad. I think the ad is interesting for what isn't there. No Kahuna Falls in front of the restaurant, no tunnel of terror and no racing slides.
  8. Finally found a classic 1980s advertisement for Adventure World. This one is from 1988 and features that earworm of a jingle "Adventure World, they made it just for fun!". I somehow think the modern circus is better than the one they had then. https://www.facebook.com/perththemeparks/videos/ Here's the source video - it's about a minute and a half in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZBLhBjWtNc&t=423s
  9. Apparently, Roe 8 protestors have been parking in the main parking lot next to AW. Unfortunately, because it is a public parking spot there's not much AW can do about it.
  10. What percentage of the gate entries are season pass goers? There's a bit of a price difference for season passes in the US vs GC. I feel giving away the gate has led this competition to the bottom. I know some people in Perth bemoan the fact that AW's season pass is more expensive than a 4 park one for VRTP, but at least we're getting something new every couple of years. I think when theme parks rely on F&B to pay the bills, they don't appear to care about customer satisfaction in the rest of the park.
  11. Those automated cars stop. Yeah, what would they prefer, a ride that stops and is safe or a ride which continues and hurts someone, like in the Smiler accident?
  12. Thanks for the report, @Aw hype. Sounds like you had a pretty good day.
  13. You're right about most staff members wearing uniform, so it's hard to tell which role they play, but senior management, like Mark used to, usually don designer jeans, business shirt and aviator sunglasses - you could spot them a mile off. It's possible that the second ride the employee alluded to was a direct replacement for Bounty, like another swinging ship.
  14. Reckon. It's so close to AW, but it'll be a very different experience. It could be ready as early as the middle of this year. When I first read about this place, I wasn't expecting much. I thought it might be a water playground and a couple of pools, but those slides look great.
  15. Wow, Cockburn ARC looks the goods from the distance. It's probably only a ten minute drive from there to Adventure World. The whole facility opens later this year. http://www.cockburnarc.com.au/About-Us/Updates/Facts-and-Figures
  16. Good luck with that @Aw hype. I might head down in the evening, in the next couple of days just to chill out. You're not supposed to film Cirque Extreme, although I have seen footage online. They don't have a problem with photos, however. I wouldn't expect a comment on the Mark situation, whether he left on his own account or was pushed.
  17. Yeah, Abyss is great and currently unlike anything that is on the Gold Coast. There's enough different elements there to always be entertaining, unlike Storm Coaster. AW runs it well and there's usually hardly any wait. I think DW would do well to get something like it (or a bit more complex). Could this have been the reason for Craig Davidson's visit at the start of the season? Do we think DW will play it conservatively in its future CapEx spends? Will they avoid big thrill rides and river raft rides and aim for something more Disneyesque, like dark rides and transport rides? I think a show could be good or a reincarnation of their audio animatronic theatre. Hopefully, they'll devise a master plan (a bit like Joz's marina pier idea for SW), where they might introduce one new attraction at a time over the next few years or so.
  18. Yeah, no. My point being that every accident or park going bankrupt scenario is different from each other. No way is LPS going to have the same money and support that DW would have from Ardent. There are so many different variables @SunshinePrincess wouldn't have that it's impossible to tell if DW is going to get sold to some Malaysian conglomerate a year from now.
  19. Blind denialists of what? You seem to know what the future holds. This scenario has never happened before - no one knows what the outcome will be. The way you use 'facts' is like Malcolm Roberts of the One Nation Party - very selectively.
  20. Yeah, pretty sure. It's just a question of when.
  21. Yeah, they're the same ones they posted outside the park to get community feedback. However, someone from the park said they've changed them slightly since then. They've had two very different predicted park maps. I think the second one makes allowances for the Dampier to Bunbury gas pipeline.
  22. I expect it will be busier when the temperature hits 38 degrees in the next couple of days. My only complaint about the extra hours at AW is the Kahuna Falls Cafe closes around 5.30pm. The new coffee shack near the pool was open later, though. Was at King Carnival, yesterday. There were dolphins, nearby, in the estuary. KC is having a special on ride tickets after dark, too.
  23. DD may well be waiting for a large part to be shipped here, like Inferno did. However, Inferno is back and is so much fun to ride. The mix of shots and drops is what makes the ride so great. Its capacity is so good, that there's hardly a wait. Its location means that you get an excellent view of Perth. It has been considered a bit of a lemon by some, but when it's operating, it's a big enough thrill for most and not as challenging as GD.
